Hi James, don't know if you remember, I wrote you over a year ago about how you get into your (previous) 997. Well, I bought a Momo "Eagle" steering wheel with the flat bottom. It made all the difference! I can now enter my 997 in style without having to contort myself at all. The downside of course - no air bag. So you roll the dice on that, but now I have a car that isn't a chore to get in and out of. Take it easy, -Tom.
I ordered this part directly from the Porsche dealer. It took a month but it cost cheaper than most websites selling it. And got the perfect colour match 😎
I'm 6'2" 230, so I'm a munchkin compared to you. I do have my seat all the way back and down. Thankfully there's just enough room for my fat ass. Being a Cab doesn't hurt either. Much easier to get in and out of with the top down. You touched on a new(er) 911 a while back. I distinctly remember Ruthie giving you the green light on that, with one very important condition. How ya doing with it? Thanks for the video. You consistently show how easy these cars are to work on. Cheers!
The center console delete kit can be found on SuncoastParts.com as well as eBay or specialty parts dealers like Gaudin Porsche Parts.com. The seat extender rails can be purchased from PelicanParts.com. Thanks!
I’m 6’4” with a long leg to torso ratio and couldn’t believe how difficult it was to drive my 996 Turbo before I removed a bracket from the seat rail to let the seat go back an extra couple inches. Still very tight, especially the knees rubbing on the steering wheel! Mine had the air con unit in this section so sadly cannot remove it.
If it helps to know, you can easily move your air-conditioning unit up above like I have it, unless you have a double DIN head unit in there. All four of the slots are interchangeable, two in the dash, two in the center console below.
Another FREE interior mod you should consider is to yank a plastic vent duct right above the gas pedal. I’ve got size 13 feet and always was annoyed with bumping my toes on that thing while driving. Now, I have tons of foot space, and even reinstalled the factory floor mats! Win win!
Good video. It may be worth mentioning, it may not work without major modification, if your car has the factory PCM fitted, the heater controls are in the console, some as like my C4S still have the factory phone in place.
@@AutoAmateur You cannot move the heater controls, there is nowhere to refit them. The factory fit PCM with its large Nav screen, (have a look at a C4S) fills the whole area. Your car has a standard size radio, it would require replacing the PCM and fitting a standard type radio, losing the Nav facility, which to honest is very outdated, most would not worry about the phone.

Hey, really nice build! I have a 2003 C2 and I'm really keen to know how the wheels have performed for you. Genuine Fuchs wheels to Brisbane is a really expensive exercise. Can you tell me what sizes they are and brand / where they were made? Thanks - Nice channel by the way.
As always informative and useful info on HowTo DIY..thanks M8!
Cheers!
My favorite 996 interior modification, modernizes the feel of the cabin.
Yeah I love it. Actually gives me a 993 / 964 sort of feel too.
Try to install a short throw shifter and new cables before the trip.
@@els3261 I have a short shifter already, but with the factory cables.
Install the red GT3 red door pulls James!

That's very cool! How is the quality of the Momo leather? Or is yours the alcantara?

Very cool! I was quoted 6 months when I tried to get it!
Black ones just came back into stock. $200 at Carnewal shipped from EU with the trim piece.
Thank you!
Well done, waiting for the other mods.
Is there a video of the seat extenders being installed and the difference they made ?
Not yet but it’s on the list!

Appreciate it, thanks!! As for the new 911 / weight loss challenge... I can't type, I'm busy eating French fries. Haha.
@@AutoAmateur 😅😅😂😂🤣🤣 ketchup or vinegar? LOL Good luck buddy!!
nice mod. I'm torn on this one for my 986. I at least need to dump the cd storage tray and put in the storage cubby.
Great idea, I'm tall as well. Can you tell where you found delite and rails? I looked online here in US and delite very expensive. Thanks Mark

@@AutoAmateur yeah I’ve got an apple car play unit there semi unfortunately. Think it’ll be shoeless driving for the future 😂
6ft6 here and I’m still not sure if I’m ready to give up storage space in the center console of my 996 ;)
Get shut!! Haha. You'll love the extra leg room.
@@AutoAmateur haha thanks. Placed the order in the meantime. Hopefully the delete kit arrives in 2 weeks 🙌
Where is the ducktail from?
eBay!
You can spray paint the carpet, that’s what dealership do when they sell used cars, you’d be surprised the cheapest refresh you can do! 💯🤘🏼
Thanks for the tip!

You can easily relocate the a/c up into the upper dash alongside the original radio. Not sure what to do about the phone though.

Hi could you tell me where you have found this console? Thanks
Sure! You can find them from several online retailers but here's a truster provider: www.suncoastparts.com/product/gt3console.html

I’ll send you the details, sure thing!! Performance wise though they’re really great, I love how planted the car feels.
Why premier? Why not just upload?
Because it's a lot of fun to do live IM / chat with people watching at the same time.
crikey how tall are you guys?, im 6ft 3 and never had an issue at all with leg room
Ha!! 6’7”.
2:21 does anyone hear a weird slowed down voice?
HA! You're absolutely right! I must have missed removing the audio from the B-roll footage of the center console. Well spotted! 😀
Hmmmm maybe I should consider a 996 now.
With these two mods, you'll have more than enough room. Not in the factory set-up though.
Honestly, the amount of plastic there, it's extremely wasteful for the storage you get. I'm very short, but I'd still remove it.
Where did you get it for a couple of hundred dollars? All I see is $450+
All you 6 footers commenting …. I’m soooo jealous of youuuu!!!
Hahahaha
