Steve Stine Guitar Lessons Steve you are hands down the best soloist trainer on UA-cam forsure
Steve Stine Guitar Lessons I used to use the piano to make music I wouldn’t say I know “HOW” to play piano but I use it to make noice sounds, that’s what I’m trying. To learn on guitar and I’m trying to picture the top of the low e string all the way to the high e string to the bottom as like 1 string kinda like a piano
Thank you steve
I like the style ure playn it's got that Jimi Hendrix sound
Hey Steve! what effects are you using?
That is how you give a guitar lesson. You explain, show, review and not repeat yourself 400 times and show us 30different camera angles. We can all rewind and rewatch. Well done sir.
Thanks Roy.
Amen to that brother direct and specific
Roy Guidry exactly. Steve is a very patient teacher obviously. He seems to have experienced all kinds of students on every kind of level.
I’m Definitely going to do that
Newbie here. So if i start with e minor on the 12th fret . Then go to D on the tenth fret. How do i know how to connect. Is this by ear or do i have to know the top note must match the bottom note? Sorry for the dumb question
Another tool that has helped me tremendously, get a clip-on tuner and leave it on while you play. Watch it, see the note names, see how your fingering affects intonation and changes the notes ever so slightly. Use the tuner to dial in your bends and seeing note names as you play can really ingrain the theory into your head without even trying!
That's a good idea! I'm gonna try that!
Great tip.. thanks for sharing 🤩
That's brilliant. Never thought of that. Thanks!
Great idea!
So obvious but so genius!
7:48 dude..... I've been binge watching your videos. And I've gotten better in the last 3 days, than in the last 6 months. GREAT way to start the new year! God Bless
Glad to hear! God Bless you as well!
Same sht!!! Steve is the best!!!
Is this also the application if for example im jamming in the key of Gminor pentatonic backing track , do i need to chase the notes from each chord OR should i only emphasize the G notes?
Was gonna say the same thing… improved more in a month than month is or even a year before
Self taught for 40 years. Taught my son every thing that I know. Thank you Steve for enlightening me on connecting the 5 positions of E minor pentatonic. I have already forwarded a link to my son so we can work on this together.
Awesome! Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing your story! :-)

This guy is without a doubt the best guitar teacher on youtube. He gets how a beginner or intermediate is thinking and feeling.
This really helped me a lot. I’m self-taught, and I’ve been trying to get past this intermediate rut I’ve been in. Other UA-camrs give way too much information and confuse me, and others don’t give enough, and just advertise. So genuinely, thank you for your easy and explanatory lesson. 🤙🏽
Miracle Jai Same, I’m trying to get better and out of this stage. Just keep rocking on!
Exactly what frustrates me. I NEVER go back if they pull the" I will show you this much but the rest you can buy" shows lack of confidence in their teaching ability. Steve S Rocks.
Well put mate
I stopped playing guitar about 2 decades ago. Im a self learner back then and I hit this wall. I couldn't make a solo, i dont know the theory, no music teacher to ask to, no you tube yet for quick reference, so I guess I just gave up. after 20 years, yesterday I bought an acoustic guitar, I guess my love for playin' is burried within my DNA. after playin' for a while (resting my fingers cause it hurts) I run accross your channel, and wow! I think I hit my "aha!" moment... now Im thinkin' to get an electric guitar again. thank you man!
I havent even been alive for 20 years and I already feel like im out of time and behind on mastering the guitar thats amazing that you can still have the drive to want to learn very inspiring
This site is a blessing for this 62 year old self-taught singer/songwriter. This is the best teaching site on the internet I think! Steve lays it out to learn!! I have the chording and the rhythm down but I can still learn here and all of Steve's uploads! Steve keep on atrucking!!!
Thank you!
I have been teaching myself guitar for a year now strictly off UA-cam and this video just blew my mind. Most helpful video I’ve seen yet.
Awesome, Jordan! Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing your experience! :-)

Steve, I'm 57 (this year), and have been noodling on a guitar since I was 14. In this video, I've picked up more useful information that has STUCK than in almost 40 years of self learning frustration.
My time constraints at this stage of my life have me in planted in different tasks for most of my waking hours, and have forced me to place the axe in a hanger more than it is played. Since seeing this, I have a much renewed drive, and will be using your methodology to once again do something that I dearly love.
For that; I sincerely thank you!
🙏 🤘✌️
I’m Proud Of You
Only took me 10 years to finally find a video that actually helps with fret knowledge, I lost my drive during highschool to continue learning because i was self taught coming back now 6 years later is refreshing
Steve you have lerned me to play guitar, now i play to everything hardrock blues country bluegrass rock pop ballade, you are a genius
Dear Steve,i'm so glad i found your channel! For me this is by far the most creative, inspiring and relaxt guitar course on the net!You are able to explain things in such a clear and simple way,and you take away all the fears of doing somthing wrong!Thanx a lot for your fantastic work!🙏
Steve is probably the best teacher on youtube along with the-art-of-guitar.

Glad I stumbled across this video. I’ve been picking up and putting down the guitar for close to 40 years. I never really took it serious. I’d get to a plateau and hit a wall. My patience is terrible. Well at 49 I decided I’m going to teach myself. This was helpful. Thanks brother.
I'm a music instructor thinking of different ways to get people past intermediate. This is a great lesson Steve!
24 years of tinkering with scales and this is the first time someone has explained it in a way I understand
Thanks for everything. .always making breakthroughs in my learning of the guitar thanks to you.
Thanks for the lesson man! You've been SO helpful to me as far as just keeping at it and not giving up. CLARITY is becoming a reality here, rock on Steve!
I really appreciate your techneques of teaching for someone who struggles to improve his noledge of mastering the fret board.
Thanks Steve, this has been one of the best lessons I've gotten here on Y-T, just listening to you explaining how to connect the scales are very inspiring, you're very talented and I'm not sure if you knows how good you are as a Teacher/Instructor not boring at all, keep on making guitar players happy best wishes.
What is amazing about Steve Stine is that he has the ability to communicate these patterns (or ruts) that we get stuck in, and how to actually move forward or take what we learned and transfer it to something new or to a new level.
Good Sunday afternoon Steve. I stumbled upon this video and I can't thank you enough. You definitely opened my mind to look at my fretboard in a new and refreshing way. I put your advise to work as soon as the video was over and I have already gained so much more freedom to move in and out. Thanks so much for the knowledge you share with us. God Bless.
Awesome tip Steve! You have opened our minds in the most broader perspective on how we can play and explore the guitar. Thanks Steve. 👍
Extremely useful! I will be applying everything you taught!!!
i have learned a ton from you, especially how to play between major and minor. thank you for caring and sharing sir
Steve is the best teacher ever... Born to teach... Any subject!!!
Glad it's guitar he's teaching tho!!!
Very helpful. I would really like to thank you (especially you - but also representing everyone else on YT) who explain this stuff to us and teach it for free. This is really something that brings me forward and helps to translate theory into practice. I think every more advanced ends at this point, but does not even know how to put the problem into words. So cool that cool musicians like you share your knowledge.
All the best.
Great teaching skills along with playing skills! Thanks, Steve!
Picked up a guitar a few weeks ago, and started playing again. First time since high school. I have been watching your videos on scale and theory, love them. Was trying to learn some blues licks last night and it all just clicked as to how to connect the positions. Still a work in progress, but I was able to meander across the fretboard for a solid 10 minutes. Really appreciate all that you do on here. Wish youtube was around when I was in highschool. Probably wouldnt have had all the frustration that caused me to give it up.
Thanks Steve for sharing your knowledge of music. It's opened up so many new doors for me.
Thanks man, I only recently started exploring the fretboard, and that relative major/minor stuff at the end totally opened my eyes. I was noodling in those positions but was confused as to what shape I was playing under and why it worked in certain keys, so what you showed there made so much sense to me. Thanks again Steve!
There are many great guitar players out there, but not many know how to spread their knowledge like you! Thanks man!
After playing for 45 years you have helped me to break very many barriers I have had even at my level of playing your way of instruction is absolutely superb my friend
Steve, you are fantastic! I look up to you and I will recommend you to any person who is looking to learn guitar. Thanks for your great work.
After years of 'sort of' playing the guitar, I stumbled across your videos on UA-cam, Steve. I have learned more in the last two weeks than in the previous twenty years I think! Your manner also makes me want to learn more - just brilliant. Thanks
Thanks Steve. It help me a lot for my hugging guitar player someday
Been playin for 14 years. Put my guitar down while running through some scales to write this comment. Great job. You rock. It's almost impossible to find someone to explain this the way you did. Thanks.
What you just taught in this video is priceless. Ive heard similar things all these years but never explained as well and as simple. Thank you
Can’t POSSIBLY express to you how well timed this video was. Was literally just looking through books and watching videos on how to extend my soloing. This was exactly what I needed. Cheers man
I love your style of teaching sir, everyone can easily understand even a beginner...
Thank you so very much, you are brilliant and very inspirational.
Love your lessons.
Please, please keep up the great work. 😃🎸
Phenomenal lesson. I’ve been struggling with this for a LONG time. Thankyou!
I was stuck exactly where you said.
I never thought about it like that . Thank you for opening up the fretboard to me. Your a star teacher
Hey steve, i hope you too probably know tge feeling of satisfaction, happiness you get when u r self taught guy & something u hve been sowing for comes up from nowhere. Thats my case with ur videos. Helped me a lott lottt in improving my skills & missing knowledge. Thanks a lot to you mate.
this guy can teach , you dont feel bored at all! good job
Steve, thanks for this lesson. I have been struggling with the box for a while and with the numerous guitar videos online, this helped me connect the dots and break out of the box.
Like so many that have recognized, your method of teaching is both informative and easy to understand. This is one of those lessons that really hit the mark expanding my mind about the availability of the notes across the frets. Thank you!
10:25 onwards he describes an exercise that makes this actionable and hardwired into your brain. Bravo Steve !
it helped me so much it's amazing
When it comes to music theory Steve Stine is the man!
This guy is so humble. Really appreciate his tutorials!
Steve, thank you so much. You're helping more people than you probably realize. God Bless!
Never thought about it this way. I always thought of the 5th position as "pentatonic box 2" and rarely used it. Starting and ending on the same notes is key.
You are a very talented guitar player my friend but, it doesn't stop there. You are a phenomenal teacher as well and that says a lot. Great teachers are far and few between. Keep up the good work.
You are a great teacher and a hell of a player I hope your videos stay up for a long time because I definitely want to watch all of them, keep up the good work Steve! You rock!
Thank you for posting this. It is so much easier for me to learn by hearing the explanation and watching it demonstrated than it is just reading it out of a book.
Absolutely brilliant guitar lesson 🙏
Excellent Steve, thanks. You're a superb teacher.
Thank you Allan!
A QUALITY LESSON!! I finally understood how to keep playing UP & DOWN the fretboard while moving RIGHT & LEFT!! Much thanks, Steve! Love your channel :)
I enjoyed the wisdom in this lesson and the fact that you see it all as a journey with no destination. You never stop learning on the guitar even things you think you know inside out and upside down can reveal new hidden treasures if you look at them from a different standpoint. You're a good teacher and I think I'll watch more of your videos and maybe even take on a course. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
thank you very much steve it helps me alot ,,
Dude you rock! This really helped me out.✌️🤘
I am amazed by your teaching. Ever since I subscribed to your channel, my guitar life's never been the same
I have been watching your channel for a few months. you are a very good player and teacher... I'm sure I can speak for all of us guitar players that want to take our playing further, and say thank you!
Steve.. I discovered today while studying c scale that when on a note anywhere on the fretboard that you can play the corresponding chord by applying the chord shape of the string name that note sits on at that spot.. you bar on that fret. For example.. at the 7th position.. the notes are B,E,A,D,F#,B... which sit on the E,A,D,G,B,E strings.. so.. if I wanna play a B chord at the 7th fret I simply put my bar there and apply the E chord form.. to play the E chord at the 7th fret I bar there and play the A chord form.. and so on... duh.. so easy now to play chords for the notes on the fretboard.. which basically serve as the root note of the chord.. woohoo!!! Learning.. sorry for the long comment I hope others can benefit from it.. hey everyone.. try it.. right the. Let’s down for each string then try what I said .. another example, 5th position/fret, A note sits on the E string.. so, bar the 5th position and play the E chord shape and u get the a chord, the D note sits on the A string at the 5th position so play the A chord form and you get a d chord musically.. ha! Damn! Enjoy all!!
Wow, thank you :)
A or Aminor?
This is the basis of the CAGED system.
thank you for sharing
Im a beginner too..I think this is the CAGED system
Howdy Steve .. Your emphasis on beginning slow and moving up through to faster tempos using a metronome when one "meanders" has been "so going back to re-learn or re-visit" years of not just approaching my solo processes but also moving between standard "root in the bass" box shape chords to actually seeing their alternate shapes to switch with ease into their inversions "with 3rd, 5th, etc in the bass" .. your meandering technique and the metronome .. PRICELESS!!!
Awesome!
Thank you so so much! I've finally learned how to work my way up and down the fret board thanks to you!
We're always learning😃
I had a great teacher we nick named Joe Bad. The first time I learned the pentatonic scale; I learned it on all twelve frets. After that the same pattern repeats itself. Off course there are notes in the scale you miss along the way but all you have to do is learn those notes later on the frets that you pass bye while running up or down the necks. In hind site I was lucky to have such a good teacher who from the start taught me to visualize and run up and down the fret board. Best thing to do is to learn to start at 1st fret for all seven notes a-g and run through until the same shape starts again.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Arajoaina! :-)

Learned the Pentatonic scale a month ago. Been stuck playing on the same position. This video really opened a whole new understanding. Thank you 🤟🏾🎸
This is one of the most important lessons if you want to play solos. Thank you. It's really educational.
Too good bro Thanks!
Best explanation for this issue ever!!!
Awesome to hear!
Best lesson I've seen in a long time. BIG LIGHT BULB MOMENT. You're a great teacher. Thank you!
This is the best tutorial I've ever watched this quarantine since it's lockdown this gives my time so worth it! thank you Steve God bless you always!
This video cleared up things I didn't even know I was confused about
That's Steve Stine for you 😊
Great stuff, really helped. Thanks.
Thanks Steve, you are a natural teacher. I have absorbed a lot from your lessons.
STEVE STINE!! after watching this video I just had a WOW moment!! I can’t thank you enough!!! Your the best coolest teacher I’ve ever seen!! Thanks man!
The mode you're calling the "new first mode" IS already the 5th mode of the minor pentatonic scale. It's the tower mode. Well that's what I've heard it called anyways. There are only 5 petatonic modes. Once you learn those 5 modes you can go between boxes easily and open the fretboard. You could show how the G major pentatonic scale is the same as the E minor pentatonic scale. You use the same modes you just go from G to G instead of E to E. All keys have a built in major key to a minor key. Like A minor is C major. D minor is F major and so on. Idk what ppl other know. But that's what I was taught.
Steve's the Bob Ross of the guitar world!
Thanks for the kind words, Gavin! :-)

I took lessons for a few years back when I was a teenager I’ve always loved guitar but I didn’t really take it seriously back then. I’m in my 30’s now and thanks to your videos and a few others I’m back to my theory studies and moving right along....Thanks!
We love you Steve god bless u man. I enjoy every lesson u do, keep the positive vibes that’s what the world needs.
Steve no words to thank you !
I t was getting monotonous to play Pentatonic Scales up and down in the same place.
I wanted to move out of it and play all over the place on the fret board. I tired it but it was never melodious as I was playing wherever I felt like ( sort of unguided notes ). You gave me the idea of how to go about it !
Thanks once again Steve !
Great video man, I've been playing for about 12 years now and always would want to stay in that same box because I didn't know how to venture out onto the fret board, I picked up that exercise and have been amazed that in 15 mins of playing around, I could make up my own solos and they actually went together, learned something in 15 mins that I've been trying to do for years, props to your teaching skills
Thanks for the kind words! And thanks for sharing your experience! :-)

Also helped me I was practicing the exact penatonic you used so it was a great lesson for me
This meandering thing is amazing. Learned more in 10 mins than in the past 2 hours of other videos. Thank you good sir :D
One of the best teachers! And your concepts work for almost all genres to apply that on the instrument 🤟🏽
I learned more in the first 4 minutes of this video. Than I have in the last five years lol.
Steve,
You're amazing. You inspired me to try guitar. I've never touched one before. What would be the first thing to learn in your professional opinion? I know 0 about guitar.
Mitchell Loven open chords and power chords definitely, try and memorize the notes on the 6 & 5 th string, you’ll be playing cool stuff in no time hahah.
I’ve been searching thru UA-cam for weeks trying to find a real instructor. After a dozen or so mishaps I came across this vid and knew my search was over. Great lesson really explained simply and well. I’m looking forward to getting back into playing again now that I’ve found some real guidance. Great job.
Great video and great instructor, I spent years noodling around, not really knowing what I was playing and what worked together properly. I decided to finally sit and spend some time learning what I need to know. This video alone has helped and inspired me to immerse myself even more in the theory side, 10/10.
Hi I enjoyed and learn a lot here online from you and basically usiing acoustic guitar but start thinking now whether I should buy an electric as it is difficult to bend strings and produce sounds which are difficult to produce in acoustic. I thought you are on live tonight as I got facebook message.
So I guess the moving between the positions part basically means sliding or otherwise playing 3 notes on the string you're moving on... or even just picking when to move and play any of the notes in that next position. I need to spend some time on this :/
Thank you for this bro. I just started the guitar and i keep coming to your videos. i can actually understand what your saying and apply it to my guitar. im so thankful !!
Wow Steve, this really opens things up for me. I was getting stuck. I really like the way you explain this. thanks so much
This guy should be a famous musician🙂
and He is! Millions of us know him and follow is videos and courses. But I know... you meant Steve should be doing world tours in one of the greatest rock or Metal bands, yeah would love to go to his show! keep it rockin Leo
the fact that he gives us all this information, and really helps anyone at any level of musical knowledge, and it's all for free! honestly a great guy!
This is an eyeopener for me, thank you so much for explaining it so that I as a fair beginner can understand it without banging my head a lot. I am a drummer, but after 20+ years of beating the drums I want to learn something new and you sir are helping a lot.
A wizard should never share his magic with mere mortals.
