Excellent video mate Thabks However would it work over a major seventh or a half diminished or something not just major or minor? Or would you use extra notes ie 7th for 7th chord etc etc
Steve how would I play A major pentatonic in shapes 2,3 or 5 since those shapes dont use a pinky finger in the beginning, would I still go down the fret board to three frets down ?
Lol First , He is demonstrating to you what will turn out for you to be a meaningless or useless concept thats not meant to be taken litterally ! @@TEBAIL-v6o Such hatred from you. I see it only as a gradual process for the beginners. It's important to understand the concept first then move on to the better approach.

My lead playing has jumped countless levels over the last couple years due to a few great teachers on youtube. I just wanted to say thank you, Steve, as you are certainly one of the best teachers on here and I have learned a ton from you. I appreciate your no nonsense approach. have a great day!
This is great stuff Steve. Been playing about 7 years but never learned music theory and I’m starting now seeing how it’s very important with being original and creating your own stuff
Alot of great players on youtube. But not that can teach like you. My first big breakthrough moment for me was watching this video. So many things clicked for me. Thanks for the video.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME????!!!!!!!! This dude taught me in 15 minutes what I’ve been trying to learn in 25 years!!!!!!!! 🤣 Steve Stine, I love your videos my man, you’re definetely the best guitar teacher I’ve seen. Thank you.

I just had the same epiphany. Decades ago I wish I had this lesson. I know all my pentatonics and modes but I guess I never paid for that final lesson when I was 15 to understand how to do exactly this.
i play BASS 30 yrs now and same i have studied theory after theory after theory watched 1000s of you tube lessons ... 5 lessons from Steve and bingo its all come together which no other bass lesson has done.
I'm blind. I've always been a rhythm player, despite taking lessons here and there over the years... This lesson bridged something in my brain and I can visualize what I need to do to play lead guitar. I'll probably start off chacing chords and develop my lead skills with time. I know quite a few skells but this made a difference.
Whoa!!! You’ve got to be kidding me. I have been watching your videos for two days and I have learnt more in these two days than I have in a whole year.
Hi steve. i am a retired welder, and have played acoustic guitar most all my life. i however many times just got stuck, and discouraged, and would slip away. Steve I really gotta thank you brudda. After 15 years of playing guitar this was a singular lesson that changed everything for me. I’ve been able to rock solos like a pro in the last year.
Steve, I've purchased two of your older lessons (42 days to blazing guitar solos and Music Theory) and this vid is the best I've seen yet regarding visualizing the fretboard. Thank you for sharing!
all these years playing just blindly over the fret, following a feeling, suddenly i can read the fret like its a book. today i am going away more confident in my abilities and actually learned something! and this all for free. thanks you so much steve!
Steve I sub to GT and JustinG, also use a myriad of YT and book resources. Hands down , you are THE BEST guitar teacher/instructor bar none. In my life I've known a few teachers/instructors in different disciplines with an exceptional gift, but they're the rare exception. Your ability to communicate concisely yet so clearly a complete understanding of whatever it is you're teaching thoroughly impresses me any time I watch your tutorials. Thank you for being you, and thank you for sharing your gift.
Steve: this has helped me so much: just as your 5 positions of Am pentatonic is also really useful. You are a great teacher + very generous to help others understand scales in a manner that is not overpowering. Thanks a million
This is really some powerful stuff and Steve explained how it worked so well. I have been watching this video over and over again. Each time it made more sense to me ! Thanks Steve. You are Awesome !
I have watched plenty of videos to get an idea about how pentatonic scales connect with chords. This video made the most sense and gave something to work with. I was so confused up until this point.
You’re awesome man! I’ve been watching and learning your videos for couple of years now, and you’re one of the reason why I’m improving fast on guitar playing. God Bless you Steve!
Cool beans !!! Another fine video. I'm glad you stated "Play the same pattern but instead of focusing on the A, you focus on the C." Teachers often forget that. It becomes apparent to the student once they use a jam tracks. But then the student is scratching his head, "It correct pattern why does it sound off a bit??" Same pattern but different note focus/selection. That alone is very hard, if not impossible to teach. Note selection, that is really ONLY learned by doing aka backing tracts. So important.
I know that this video was made over a couple of years ago, but what you are teaching/sharing is exactly what I needed, and is where I am at in my guitar playing development. What you are trying to convey is very clear and I learned quite a bit. Thanks very much for this video!
I've been confused for ever over how, or if, a minor pentatonic can be played over a major chord. You finally made it clear and understandable. I watch any number of UA-cam channels for how to play songs, but I always come back here to actually learn how to play the guitar.
wow, I learned something.. being super good with the pentatonic, I'd play the 'first position' on C and continue playing the C pentatonic up and down the neck for the duration of the song through all chord changes. So I learned that I have got to play a different pentatonic with each chord.. I know the positions well (I had my own names), now I can just play the different positions on the same spot depending on the chords! Thanks so much, I can't wait to go home and try this!!! Never in the history of guitar playing has someone known all the pentatonic positions and never been able to do anything with it! There is an upgrade coming to my music! Thanks Steve!
Hi 89tuber. Steve is not exactly prescribing the chord following approach (though many guitar teachers do). He clearly says that if you know the chords but have difficulty with the changing key or with knowing what notes to play, this approach can help you sound good. I feel that if we restrict ourselves to the pentatonic for each chord, we are almost just playing arpeggiated chords. That could be restrictive, and the mental effort in doing it might reduce our ability to create an cohesive, interesting counterpoint melody.
Dude, finally somebody who understands how to explain how to play over a chord… Thank you…that’s why you’re my guitar guru and why I buy your courses! I’m sure I will get to this in one of your courses sometime this year! LOL but for right now, thank you very very much!

Hi Steve - I found this video extremely helpful. I'm a singer / (not yet) songwriter and love playing with others but have only recenlty started learning pentatonic scales, modes and the chord numbering system. You helped me clear up a lot in just 14 min. What a cool life you're living; not only are you helping a lot of people, you're doing it through something you're very good at and, something you clearly enjoy. Few people can say that. Rock on brother!
Mr Stine, this is another powerful Video. It's just you are sharing pieces of Gold with every one. It feels more than just teaching others, but a kind heart giving. Amazing. Thank you, from London England!!!
Awesome video maybe one of the best teaching videos I’ve seen because I know the scale well but you show me quite a bit I didn’t know thank you because I’m self-taught
Thanks so much Steve! I like the "chord chasing" terminology. I will use that. This video has opened up new ways for me to use the different pentatonic positions. Appreciate it.
It's amazing how well you teach, Steve. You have explained something here that I have been missing for a long time. Like so many others, I've just been playing the five positions and switching from major to minor and targeting the root, but never understood about cord chasing. It makes ALL the difference. It sounded good before but now it sounds GREAT! Thank you for taking the time.

Absolutely gold advice. Been a rhythm guitarists for years and only known the one scale you started with which kind of got me through. Having just learnt all 5 positions this has unlocked something in my brain. Can’t wait to try this.

I'm a beginner. I've been practicing the pentatonic scale, playing it over and over. I've been trying to make some kind of sense of how you can apply it to a chord progression. I thought it would just be the "joke that I never understood". Thanks for the help. It makes me want to keep practicing scales.
I cant believe I just watched this. Everyone teaches that shape, and says how you can move it all over the fretboard. But then when I look for scales in certain keys, it shows different patterns and I get confused. NOW, I see that the one pattern works, but only for one key per position. I can play that one pattern for all keys, I just cant do it in the same place for all of them. So if I want to stay in the same place, I have to learn other patterns to change my roots. But I dont have to, the one pattern can do it all providing I move it. This is incredible. 15 minutes solved something I couldnt figure out for two years.

However would it work over a major seventh or a half diminished or something not just major or minor?
Or would you use extra notes ie 7th for 7th chord etc etc
Please stop the translation software in the titles. This is not German at all. Everybody in Europe understand more or less English.
Steve how would I play A major pentatonic in shapes 2,3 or 5 since those shapes dont use a pinky finger in the beginning, would I still go down the fret board to three frets down ?
This is exactly what i am looking for.

BEST GUITAR TEACHER EVER. And I don't say this lightly. I'm also sharing this my son who's toying with guitars in his 20s.
Been playing about 7 years but never learned music theory and I’m starting now seeing how it’s very important with being original and creating your own stuff
same. I'm Almost playing for 7 years and I've never really learned music theory
Ya this vid is so cool love his tone of voice and hair cheers steve
7 years without theory? Wtf man.
Alot of great players on youtube. But not that can teach like you. My first big breakthrough moment for me was watching this video. So many things clicked for me. Thanks for the video.
Stuck for ages playing over chord progressions and you’ve unlocked it in minutes. Appreciate and subscribed.
Hi. Thats awesome to know. Thanks for sharing and really glad the lesson was helpful. Any questions please feel free to ask anytime.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME????!!!!!!!! This dude taught me in 15 minutes what I’ve been trying to learn in 25 years!!!!!!!! 🤣
Steve Stine, I love your videos my man, you’re definetely the best guitar teacher I’ve seen. Thank you.
Awesome, Giovanni! :-)

Same here man
couldn't agree more. Steve Stine's videos are eye opening
The best teacher I've ever seen clear and easy to understand great job Steve!
Whoa!!! You’ve got to be kidding me. I have been watching your videos for two days and I have learnt more in these two days than I have in a whole year.
Hi steve. i am a retired welder, and have played acoustic guitar most all my life. i however many times just got stuck, and discouraged, and would slip away.
Thanks to you it all makes sense now, and i would just like to say thank you!....you are a great teacher!
Who says you cannot teach an old dog new tricks!, and you never fail until you stop trying.....
Awesome, Robert! Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing your experience! :-)

This is insane lesson to boost up my skills..thank man love from India
Steve I really gotta thank you brudda. After 15 years of playing guitar this
was a singular lesson that changed everything for me. I’ve been able to rock solos like a pro in the last year.
Steve, I've purchased two of your older lessons (42 days to blazing guitar solos and Music Theory) and this vid is the best I've seen yet regarding visualizing the fretboard. Thank you for sharing!
all these years playing just blindly over the fret, following a feeling, suddenly i can read the fret like its a book. today i am going away more confident in my abilities and actually learned something! and this all for free. thanks you so much steve!
hmakam congrats
hmakam, God sure is good! He died for our sins 2000 years ago, and he continues to bless us 2,000 years later!
Been playing for 55 yrs and you have just made more since than anyone else it falls together
Finally!! The video i was looking for.I will not miss your videos anymore
Hi. Awesome! Happy to know you liked the lesson and thanks for your comment!
This guy is a major confidence booster. Thanks for all the help man
I know that this video was made over a couple of years ago, but what you are teaching/sharing is exactly what I needed, and is where I am at in my guitar playing development. What you are trying to convey is very clear and I learned quite a bit. Thanks very much for this video!
Best damn explanation I've heard anywhere. Fantastic job.
This is the best lesson I have seen. Well explained, and I now understand why and how the pentatonic shapes all fit in. Thank you again from England
everytime i see this guy my mind is blown away,he always finds the best way to teach u something, love u man,no homo:P
I've been confused for ever over how, or if, a minor pentatonic can be played over a major chord. You finally made it clear and understandable. I watch any number of UA-cam channels for how to play songs, but I always come back here to actually learn how to play the guitar.
I am so glad to hear that, Larry!
I'm gonna apply this on my solos, it sure helps! Nobody ever talked about this on UA-cam! Thanks Steve!
wow, I learned something.. being super good with the pentatonic, I'd play the 'first position' on C and continue playing the C pentatonic up and down the neck for the duration of the song through all chord changes.
This was really helpful ❤
Dude, finally somebody who understands how to explain how to play over a chord… Thank you…that’s why you’re my guitar guru and why I buy your courses! I’m sure I will get to this in one of your courses sometime this year! LOL but for right now, thank you very very much!

Thanks Steve I just bought a 12 string acoustic and I am going to write some new songs you are the best guitar teacher I have ever had!
One of the best instructors on UA-cam. I watched this video months ago and kinda got it. Now I'm back after some practice and I know exactly what he's talking about.
Im your student❤️❤️❤️ since day 1 i play.
Clear, concise and to the point. Take a bow, love educators like you.
I finally understand... awesome video
Man I’ve been playing for years , mainly rhythm, just learning to lead .. great lesson ! Thanks !!

This is another great way to think about soloing. I love it. Always so soft spoken and sweet. Thanks Steve.
I love that guitar. 🤘🎸
Great vid. Been stuck for a long time trying to figure out where to start to start soloing and end up just getting stuck watching stuff I can't put into practice. I feel like I've already gotten better just from watching this vid. Now I Gotta get straight home from work and start shredding.

I’ve been subscribed for a while now. This is hands down the best video I’ve seen to help me understand how to solo using the pentatonic scale. It answers a question I’ve been trying to unravel for a while now. The light came on.
Just bought an electric after playing acoustic for years and this rocked my world lol
This lesson would be one of the best I have seen. Makes so much sense. Thank you very much Steve.

Brother Steve. You Rock ! The way you teach is off the Music Charts, absolutely Best lesson I have every taken. You have a very special talent bro. Thank you for the Music Lesson..
I just learned more in 10 minutes of this video than in a month of lessons! Lol
Dude,,, a month of lessons would never get you to this point. Most people would never attain this complete knowledge without years of study, ..but.....knowing is not enough,,,,you must apply what you know, which is another area of skill and talent that takes time to harness.
I've been looking for this guy for months thank you! You know how to teach and explain. You keep it clear and simple.
Hi. Thanks so much for your comment and kind words. Glad to know the lessons are helpful and any questions please feel free to ask anytime!
Wow! I've never come across a video that explains it as simple as you've just explained it... HUGE THANKS Steve!!!
Thank you so much Steve you are such an eye opener. A lot of us guitar beginners are still blind to the crazy/confusing fretboard but you made it easy for us to understand. What a Legend 💯
Thanks Steve! From a 65yo beginner, this was eye opening.

Hi Phillip! Thanks for your comment and for sharing! My pleasure and thanks again for the kind words!
Mr Stine, this is another powerful Video. It's just you are sharing pieces of Gold with every one. It feels more than just teaching others, but a kind heart giving. Amazing. Thank you, from London England!!!
Ditto nice job thanks
Fine job Steve, you just jump started my musical consciousness ... no wonder you get the big bucks!
Im a Pianist but also obsessed with guitars. This converts my theories in piano to guitars. It will take some time but I'll try it.
Awesome video maybe one of the best teaching videos I’ve seen because I know the scale well but you show me quite a bit I didn’t know thank you because I’m self-taught
Steve you are the best - make it simple and we understand
I’ve been playing for years and this makes spot of sense! Thanks for the knowledge buddy🤙🏻

This video made more sense to me about soloing than anything I've ever seen before. Thanks Steve! I actually feel like there's hope after all.
Just want to appreciate for the lesson! I’ve leaned major and minor pentatonic scale for only one position each, and this video enables me to unlock solo by chasing chord progression with only one position! Amazing video and explanation on how to utilize pentatonic scale!
Hey! Thanks so much for your comment and for sharing. That's awesome to know the lesson was helpful. Keep up the great work and any questions feel free to ask!
Absolutely gold advice. Been a rhythm guitarists for years and only known the one scale you started with which kind of got me through. Having just learnt all 5 positions this has unlocked something in my brain. Can’t wait to try this.

I agree. This is unlocking something for me. Chord chasing. Perfect!
Thanks for watching, Chuck! And thanks for sharing your breakthrough! :-)

Go here for details → guitarzoom.com/musictheorymadeeasy20/promo/
Whether you’re just starting out or if you’ve been playing for years, learning music theory can take your playing to the next level. Because you won’t just memorize some chords, or play a scale over and over a hundred times.
When you learn music theory, you’ll discover how scales actually work. How scales generate chords. Why some chords sound good together and others don’t. And which notes to play to create the sound you want with your solo.
Which means, you’ll truly start to understand how music works. So you can take your guitar playing as well as your songwriting to a whole new level.
But the special discount and brand-new bonus courses disappear tonight. Here’s just a few of the bonus courses you get when you order now:
☑️ NEW! Fast Action Bonus #1: Steve Stine Live Lesson Library Vol 1
☑️ NEW! Fast Action Bonus #2: Unlocking the CAGED System
☑️ NEW! Fast Action Bonus #3: Exotic Guitar Scales
...and more. Click the link for details, and no matter what, keep playing! :-)
