Probably the fact that the game bases some of its mechanics from Brutal Doom, a Doom Mod that fucks with the fundamentals of Doom and has a creator who throws temper tantrums that are worthy of surpassing Yanderedev.
Most of the complaints made are reasonable although the scores obviously aren't and intentionally not well thought out. People have called this one more cartoony, there's a larger emphasis on 'killmoves' and the action is broken up with traversal gameplay. To be fair to the guy the original Dooms were all about the shooting all of the time.

@@AquaGaming1607 No I don't mean that it's too easy it's just that it doesn't punish you enough to discourage you from only using the SSG, hence why someone would be able to play the entire game spamming the SSG and then complain that Eternal forces you to change weapons.
Ridori I understand to be fair with you, but it’s meant to be a balanced experience. If people think UV is too hard and ITYTD is too easy, then HMP is the best choice for said player. It doesn’t punish the player too hard but it doesn’t go easy on them either. I play on NM and I can say it’s more than a little unforgiving so I can see how people think HMP is their safe spot.

So what I understand the perfect doom 6 would be: No jumping Altered pacing More/less story 90 minute campaign More ammo No shotguns to stay farther from enemies No puzzles Real soundtrack No hard game mechanics More violence Everything from doom 2016 No bonus account for extra features Doomguy eating more cereal
Doom 3 had an actual writer come up with the setting and the story. Cool stuff, honestly. Would’ve been better if it wasn’t a Doom game since that held it back imo. A sci-fi survival horror like that is really interesting to me but it doesn’t feel like Doom, you know?

Doom is like devil May cry, there's a story there if you want it but that's not the point, killing demons while looking like a badass.... That's the point.
pretty sure the story was just Id giving some serious fanservice by making the theory that Doom Slayer and Doom Guy are the same person official canon. Tho Im not ruling out that was the plan all along.
@Arick A4 well yeah, not the best comparison but I'd say aside from DMC 3 and 5 the story wasn't ever at the for front when it came to the series, if you play dmc 1 and 4 parts of their stories just feel rushed and dated by today's standards. When I compare it to doom i compare them in the sense that most gamers play them for self indulgence/fun. Does that make more sense?

@@RozKounelakion Preach. If I wanted to hear a "critical" review of a game, I would rather watch Zero Punctuation. Notice that I've used the word "rather," because Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw himself really isn't that good at video games. Even his friend is a better player than him. One time he used to trash Demon Souls and Dark Souls, then he made multiple streams of it on his other channel. He used to trash a lot of Nintendo stuff, until he played Breath of the Wild. You could say he's a petty casual gamer but a funny one, either way. And believe me, he does have very questionable tastes in video games. It's not that I I'm against his tastes, but it's more like he contradicts so many other things that most people would generally say about a particular game. One being Bioshock: Infinite. Never played the game itself, so I don't even know if people just gave the game way too much criticism than it deserved. But the way I saw it at that time was people in the comment section criticizing Yahtzee's brutal critique against Bioshock 2 while giving Bioshock: Infinite his own self-made, fictional GOTY award. All in all, he just tends to exaggerate his criticism of games for comedic effect, which surprisingly was never as repetitive as I once thought, but his fans did tend to be extremely pompous and arrogant. Taking his exaggerated tone on games as Bible gospel. One time I saw this one fan who made long-winded rants against Nintendo, at first it was about the way Nintendo handles sales, which is understandable, but then the guy kept on trashing Mario Maker of all things. He was essentially copying Yahtzee's critical review of the game, calling it a gimmick like many other Nintendo games and more like a digital level designer rather than an actual game. The guy didn't know he just said those things because he needed to be funny. Whoever that guy was, he used a lot of very pretentious terms. He made it seem like the entire world was utterly brainwashed to always love Nintendo games. The thing about this guy is that he's an Undertale fan. Now I'm not here to judge his tastes, but would it really have killed him to realize how that most Undertale fans are actually die hard fans of Nintendo? Including the creator itself? Seems like he never cared, either way. I guess he just wanted to sound like the black sheep of the Undertale fan base.
To be fair, if a game bores you in the first 90 minutes, that's probably not your fault. He should have stuck it out, I agree but it only takes one sip of vinegar before you decide you want to stop drinking.
“Doom to me is about story” The first thing that comes to that reviewer’s mind for Doom is story? A game whose original developer said there wasn’t a story to begin with because “a story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It’s expected to be there, but it’s not that important”?

“At that moment, it didn’t feel like I was playing Doom anymore.” Dude if anything that purple goop or whatever kind if acts as an homage to classic Doom where you had no jump and mobility was overall limited.
Gorilla Art also, you literally get kicked into the action from the start on. like theres no explanation what or who you are and why this is happening, just „kill demons“
These people don't understand what Doom is. They want it to be Destiny. Wolfenstein would have flourished if they hadn't crammed it full of 'story' instead of handing BJ Blaskowizc a gun and telling him to just go kill Nazis. I'm personally glad that Bethesda allowed the Doom team to remain true to what the original was all about.
Garrett It’s literally a soft reboot, and WE GO TO HEAVEN AND SENTINEL WORLDS! Did the idiot forget that? Did they forget the fucking crazy environments fit for a Heavy Metal Cover?
There was one glory kill that I literally never saw until the last level. That's how many different ones there are. It was vs that purple imp like demon that teleports. Prowler I think. And it was badass because he grabs it's head and rips it out, and then you see the spinal cord hanging out and I had a flash back to original mortal Kombat sub zero fatality. They a HAD to have referred to that on purpose. It was awesome.
Everyone complaining about the jumping “puzzles” just reminds me of that infamous Cuphead review. I don’t think I fell more than a couple of times throughout the whole game lol.
I did get stuck on one part but that was from my own stupidity, either way the jumping puzzles give you time to cool off and also check out the beautiful background.
Most of these people are just dumb as fuck. There was a jumping moment where you just had too look around and notice that there’s a fucking switch you had to shoot that’ll bring a platform up. This game doesn’t require you to be a genius, but if you can’t get further than an hour in the game i have no doubt you have no chance to beat it even at the easiest difficulty. I love the game so far. Except a very bad bug i encountered at the Gladiator fight (Couldn’t damage him anymore when he was left at like 25% health and when restarting the mission the campaign didn’t even work anymore and i could walk through textures etc. I just started new campaign and it works so far (I didn’t get to the gladiator part yet again, hope I won’t get that bug anymore or it gets fixed on my old campaign)
Bruh the chainsaw is fun to use because of how brutal it is. Also it gives you ammo, health, and armor. It also gives you.a brief window to get out of a choke point
I think they're referencing the fact that you tend to rely on it to get through tough fights since your ammo pool is so low. I can understand not wanting to be tethered to the chainsaw to get ammo every fight.
“Boring story no one cares about” Yeah just ignore everyone who likes the lore for the game they’re playing so they actually know what’s going on, “Doomguy isn’t as badass and listens to speeches the NPCs give him” I’m guessing someone didn’t play 2016 and get to the part where the Slayer stood in a office with Samuel for a couple minutes or looked at Olivia doing argent tower stuff for what felt like even longer

Kimarous got it on console and I was worried because everyone said it need a mouse, ordered a keyboard and mouse controller but before it arrived I was fisting demons on the master levels 😀
Flying through those rings on the second to last level kicked my ass on my first play through. I'd miss the rings or The climbing walls and I would admittedly get frustrated. But after some practice and a new controller they're a breeze
Doom Eternal is my first Doom game as well and its easy to pick up and play, I did have trouble on one of the platforming parts but after a few tries I was able to get it
It's like how some people treat dark souls, "oh, the game is too hard, how am I supposed to enjoy it if most my health is taken away by one attack" get good, practice, learn the game, they put stuff in games so that if you use it correctly, you can succeed
“He calmly listens to idiotic npcs “ like the three times he killed the priest mid speech , oh I know when he calmly listened to the DISEMBOIDED VOUCE Vega or samuel hayden TELLING HIM WHERE TO GO
he only really listens to Vega and Hayden because they help him, all NPCs that don't help him are either murdered mid speech or simply ignored because they're not worth the ammo and time (like them UAC guards, and doom guy don't kill no humans he only scares them to hell)
"Doom was about story" Ah yes. The original DOOM games ALL had TONS of story. I remember all of it. Like... one screen at the start of the game. Indeed literally better than The Last of Us.
Eternal actually has really rich story and lore if you bother to read the codexes, they did a great job of pulling the original games into the storyline (except for 3)

But once 3 dimensional thinking comes into play, the level design of Doom Eternal makes more than sense.

the *ONLY* thing I can think of that makes even the slightest (but still retarded) sense is how Doomguy handles the weapon mod bots. In DOOM '16 he grabbed the box and punched out the drone, but in Eternal he takes care as he pulls the box of the drone. But if you have 2 neurons to rub together to form a brain cell. You'd realize it's because in '16 they were UAC bots. In Eternal they're bots made by VEGA, Doomguy's buddy. I love how some of the big complaints are that it’s “too colorful while DOOM 2016 looked more grounded and brutal” and “I have a lot less ammo, DOOM 2016 was more balanced with ammo” when literally a couple of the biggest complaints when DOOM 2016 came out we’re that the color palette was kind of ONE NOTE and BORING because as great of a game it is, looking at the same reds browns and grays got old quick, and another huge complaint is that the game gave you TOO MUCH AMMO encouraging players to rely on one or two OP gun(s) for most of the play-through. Id software had these issues in mind while making DOOM Eternal which is why the game is so colorful and cartoony, it’s a design choice that works well, and why the ammo pools are about half of the original with the more powerful weapons like the super shotgun and the rocket launcher. Id fixed those big issues with 2016 and everyone’s complaining about that just because they’re not used to it. Wasn’t Doom Eternal supposed to come out before Half Life Alyx? What would his thoughts on the game be then? Would he have liked it until Half Life Alyx came out and would then hate it for not being in VR? Truly an enigma wrapped in a conspiracy.
It's ironic how the dudebros in this video are reviewing a game as if it were a movie and the same type of dudebros review movies as if they were games. That's the only reason why they use "pacing" and other "my first movie critic thesaurus" terms.
Pacing is an actual thing in games. It changes depending on the game and on the player, but in general it's how much time the player is spending and enjoying the game & if there's any interruption. For example: the maruader changes the pacing of the fight because you have to wait for an attack rather than spend your time attacking. It changes the dynamics, this changes the pacing In doom, it's really just a "how much time I'm killing and how much time I'm not"
Doom is 95% gameplay and 5% story with skippable cutscenes. You determine your own goddamn pace. You can speedblitz through the levels or take your time to explore all of the levels to find secrets. It's all up to you. This whole "pacing" point stupid and retarded.
NarrowStone These idiots don’t know what pacing actually is, they just want to add a smart word into their troglodyte-like, grammatically poor, whiny reviews. Doom Eternal’s pace is very dependent in how you play. If someone’s playing the game like it’s a cover shooter (“EnEmIeS rUsH iN mY FaCe WtF bAd Ai!”), then any bad pacing is their fault. If someone misses a key and has to go back through the level for an hour after all the enemies are dead, that’s their fault that the action stopped. This game lets you set your own pace and I love it for that, I enjoy clearing a room and then spending a while scouring it for secrets- that’s good Doom pacing for me.
@@RobertDecker417 The kicker is that id made the game, the account debacle has nothing to do with the impressive amount of work that has been put into this blockbuster level game.

"Instead of bringing in new colors and environments its 'hell on earth'." Well yeah, that's because doom eternal is a soft remake of doom 2 "hell on earth". 90 minutes of playing does not do this game justice.
90 minutes of playing, generously assuming these people aren't totally braindead, but knowing they aren't ace players. Is completing Exultia and quitting. I'm pretty decent at the game, and you can see the clip on my channel to confirm. 90 minutes for me my first time through, (on nightmare) was like 1/3 maybe 1/2 through Cultist base. So these people just decided "lol it's just hell on earth" w/o seeing what was imo 2 of the coolest maps in the game, Cultist base and Doom hunter base.
So it sounds like a lot of teenagers who never played a game that wasn't Call of Duty, Battlefield, and in some cases Doom 2016, all got super butt hurt that Doom Eternal asked them to do a little bit more like... [Checks notes] Jumping.
This is a departure from the original dooms as well though. A lot of people probably were expecting a shooting experience, these new elements inevitably give and take from the shooting. Some people just want Contra without limited ammo.
@Gleb B. / Глеб Б. If you are scared of such basic activities that are an essential part of every game, there are a couple of cheat codes that give you unlimited ammo, once you do the code you can finally play doom eternal without enjoying

Hello kids, today, we’ll be learning about “Doomers” .The word “Doomer” comes from the combination of the two words Doom and boomer. A doomer is someone who rains on a new dooms parade because it’s not like Doom 1 & 2.
Don’t know, these so called reviews are mostly "Doom 2016 is better, this is no Doom, I’m too stupid to learn the game mechanics". Eternal is, in some aspects, acctually much more similar to the originals, than 2016 was. Weapon designs, pick-ups, enemies? Straight outta Doom 1 and 2.
@@rigid_sideline That falls under "I can’t learn the game mechanics" category. I mean, jumping, dashing and swinging is essential part of combat too. If you can’t use them, you will die.

Maybe why they hate pacing so much, and jumping xD

Kevin García even so, there was platforming in doom 2016. The whole argent tower stage was a giant plat former. Though, with the easier mobility, platforming in doom eternal is way more fun (and easier to not fall off the stage).
@Mr VT You, too, fellow Hyde! When Civvie reviewed Doom 2016, the old Doom fans tried to whine in the comments about the new game and people threw it back in their faces. They're complaining about the story in a Doom game? It's different, so it sucks?
I think most of the negative reviews come from people that struggled with the gameplay. Even I, as I played through it, got frustrated at a few parts wondering why they made it so much harder. But then...it clicked. Like, everything made sense. Using the chainsaw, hooking onto zombies for mobility, setting them on fire to recover armor, chainsaw again, etc. Once all of the important aspect of surviving the fights kicked in, it stopped being so difficult. And, I think, a lot of people aren't ready for that. They want an easy game that lets them hold down the mouse and watch things die. Which is fine, if that's your thing! But, to me, it feels like ID wanted a game that requires more thought than that (I'm sorry, I also loved the hell out of 2016, but it was NOT a game with 'lots of tactical choices'. It was just tremendously fun). They wanted a game where you did actively have to pay attention to things. But, by doing that and making weak points and always having zombies and imps around to refill ammo, it made what used to feel like "hard" enemies pretty easy. Just had to know how to beat them. So, if you didn't like the game, okay. That's totally fine. There's a difference between "They changed the formula and I don't enjoy it" and "This garbage pile of dogshit is made by retards". So if people aren't respecting your view, maybe the problem isn't people.

Ridori I understand to be fair with you, but it’s meant to be a balanced experience. If people think UV is too hard and ITYTD is too easy, then HMP is the best choice for said player.

Id software had these issues in mind while making DOOM Eternal which is why the game is so colorful and cartoony, it’s a design choice that works well, and why the ammo pools are about half of the original with the more powerful weapons like the super shotgun and the rocket launcher. - don't like speedy, action gameplay
- but also want speedy, action gameplay
- don't like to think
- don't like when they need to click more than two buttons

- complaining about a bethesda.net and putting like 5 minutes into logging is more important than the whole freaking campain of Doom Eternal
- think that... *example: breaking open an arm of a demon and putting his own broken bone through its own jaw is not gory enough
- they give the "story nobody cares about" as a complaint but they care more about it than most people who really dont care by complaining about it... great job
- "DOOM 2016 is a masterpiece and any way of any development of any new mechanics into it is a bad design"
- also they can't explain their own points at all
I think this a way of escaping the fact that they dont know how to play games at all and because Doom Eternal has a difficulty spike over the 2016 one so just they call everything something harder and by lies make themselves more relatable for random people so that it feels for them that they didn't do anything wrong and its a fault of the game design even though it really isn't. Normally I would say its our boi Marauder striking again but it seems these poeple didn't even got to him at all so, yeah I imagine the enemy design would just be added to this list if they did. @@luksibukkyeet1719 I hate to talk about it like most people that "iTs JuST LikE DaRK SoULs of FPS" but I really liked that Eternal has kinda same way of telling the player to understand the enemies, learn them and kinda use your head more with targeting certain parts of enemy instead of just shooty shotting until it dies. For me it mixes the crazy fast and agressive gameplay of 2016 with it perfectly. I don't have any problem with the game so far, apart from like a couple of times the ai got caught running into a wall or stranded onto a ledge.
I kinda wish the cartoonish noises that pop up on some glory kills were replaced with meaty sounds, im here for visceral action not pop-yaaayy type thing.
Not bad tho, even if it sticks out at times.
@@Porakki almost all of the animations are more slapstick comedy then the 2016 version. hard to feel like a badass while your giggling...almost every glory kill in the 2016 version had a visceral feel to it. The less serious tone of the violence in eternal really took the edge off of the badassery. Not sure why they went more comical with the first entry in the series to let you blow away chunks of demons as you fight them. just your average lighthearted torture porn.

YASblK BES KOSTEY to be fair for most of the game it just doesn’t answer anything until like mission 8 where it’s all made clear
Okay, well I haven’t beat the game just yet, but I’m on like “nekravol II”. The story confuses me a lot. What happened between 2016 and now? I like the backstory of the doom slayer (that’s awesome). But why is Hayden suddenly destroyed? Why is the crucible already in a titan? This may all be explained later, but I’m not sure what’s happening.
Bryant Harrison Hayden was just recently destroyed after being attacked by demons on Earth. The crucible is already in the titan because the slayer killed it during the first demon attack on Argent D'Nur (This is explained in a codex entry and hinted at by Hayden)

I saw a 0/10 review of it and i just have to share it here:
"Its not in VR is all I have to say. After Half-Life Alyx proved to us that VR is the way to go. They put out this mess. When I played it I kept saying this would have been a whole lot more fun if this was in VR like Half-Life Alyx."
Le Carbonator holy fuck lmao! That guy is a dumbass. DOOM was in VR most people would get motion sickness.

It changes the dynamics, this changes the pacing
In doom, it's really just a "how much time I'm killing and how much time I'm not"
Doom is 95% gameplay and 5% story with skippable cutscenes.
NarrowStone I mean they set up the first meeting with the marauder as sort of a boss fight. Can hardly argue it changes the pacing much.

They’re probably the same people who complained about the “Mortally challenged” joke.

Hello kids, today, we’ll be learning about “Doomers” .The word “Doomer” comes from the combination of the two words Doom and boomer. A doomer is someone who rains on a new dooms parade because it’s not like Doom 1 & 2.

John Ryan Parman sorry, I didn’t clarify that Doomers are people that grew up with the original games and they don’t like the new ones
Prase Domácí i think the thing they’re most agitated about is the platforming aspects

6:56 "Why try to be another game?"
