My heart BROKE when I saw Chewie's reaction when he found out Leia had died. It's like the dude can't catch a break, his best friend died a couple movies ago, and then Luke, and I imagine he was probably a pretty awesome uncle to Kylo Ren back when he was a kid, being his dad's best buddy and all, so his death and especially Leia's and he just dropped to the ground all overwhelmed and shit. It was difficult to watch.
I tear up every time I see Chewie's reaction. Even more haunting I think is there are no words spoken, just wailing and crying out. Very realistic and great acting.
I didn’t like the movie but I must say it’s refreshing to see some positive Star Wars fan content on UA-cam because there is way too much toxic negativity in the algorithm.

Dude. You didn’t even mention Chewie’s response to hearing about Leia’s death. That magnificent Sasquatch falling to the ground and his roar of pure agony hits me hard.
The one good scene in this fucking disaster, and it's only because it's a cheap connection to characters from the originals. Beloved characters instead of a bland mary sue, the do-nothing Han Solo ripoff, and the waste of potential that Finn was
@Jesse Pinkman The sequels are mediocre films, the prequels are garbage with the exception of 3 and if people didn't grow up with them they would still be seen as such. The same thing is gonna happen with the sequels
@Jesse Pinkman the only sequel that had bad reviews was The Rise of Skywalker though. And look I respect your opinion but "Jar jar was at least kind of interesting. And no wear near as annoying." You're kidding yourself if you believe that. Rey is a pretty poorly written character sure, but theres literally nothing about her that's annoying? When all characters IN UNIVERSE find Jar Jar Jar annoying
the scene where Rey "dies" and the end of the movie and then it cuts to finn and showing that he felt her die. I personally loved that detail because it was another nod to finn being force sensitive.
lost my father in January of '19, so the Han forgiving Ben hit home for me. doesn't seem related in anyway but him saying "I miss you son" is genuine and heartfelt and just damn it got to me.
So sorry for your loss! My dad died in '07, so that scene also hit really hard for me. It was just so beautiful for Ben to be able to "see" (even if it was just in his head) his dad for one last time, and to know that he still loved him. That got me good.
Dang. Im sorry for your loss. I too lost my father, when I was 8 years old, and never made this connection. Welp I think Im gonna cry now next time I watch it.
Honestly, at this point I find myself focusing on the good things each Star Wars movie has to offer. I've gotten way too tired of focusing on the negatives all the time.
10:00 I mean Luke by coincidence bought a droid with a message from his long lost twin sister who had just been captured by his evil father that he doesn't know is his father, and the message is for a jedi master who was also the master of Luke's father. Oh and and the droids also used to belong to his father and mother, in fact one of them was also built by his father. Star Wars is just full of coincidences bro
Actually a lot of that is Less Coincidental than You Realise. Obi Wan Literally took Luke to Tatooine in the First Place and was Stationed there to Guard him. (Which is also why the Complaint that Luke only Knew him for a day ot Two is false, he Clearly Knew him all his Life.) Lea would be expected to have her Mothers R2 Droid, as R2 went with Lea to the Organa Household. Along with 3PO. It'd make sense for Lea to try to contact Obi Wan given the History between her Adopted Father and Obi Wan, it'd make sense for Luke ot be there as Kenobi lived close by anyway, and it'd be Logical for the Droids to be there, without much Coincidence. And given Princess Lea was a Political Figure of High Rank, knowing Vader, who is also a High Ranking Political Figure, makes sense as well.
@@skwills1629 a significant portion of that isnt revealed until way after the fact tho, making its origins still incredibly convenient. The force itself is a deus ex machina woven right into the storytelling for the universe. Characters get astronomically lucky as a result.
@@ButrzV2 - If we're going by how much Later Thigns are revealed, Lea is not revealed to be Luke's Sister and Vader is not revealed ot be his Father so its way less coincidental even than what I said. @@skwills1629 ehh. R2 and 3PO on their way to Ben, getting caught by Jawas just to be sold to Owen, the list of conveniences goes on. Like i said: the force itself is a deus ex machina

It seems few Live in that Part of The Desert, and The Droids were picked up en route to Obi Wan Kenobi so headed the same Direction. Luke Lived Near Obi Wan.
"The expectations for Episode 9 were so high, they almost didn't even exist!" I have no idea why I laughed so hard at this line. Yet I can't help but relate. I didn't know what to expect at all going into this, and tripping on a stair spilling nachos and coke all over the floor in front of 200 people didn't exactly temper my clarity that night either.
@@odiadordeisrael Yes it does, stop trying to debunk everything I'm saying, characters like this fulfill their true destiny at the last minute because they know that they'll be rewarded for doing so, makes perfect sense, stop trying to tell me otherwise because it's blatantly obvious how it makes sense.
One thing I particularly liked was how the water planet fight was the exact opposite of the Mustafar fight between Obi Wan and Anakin. - it was on a fucking water planet instead of lava - it had the Jedi as the one who was the aggressor in the fight (Rey was pissed at Kylo) - it ended with the badly wounded participant being healed by the Jedi instead of being left to die It was pretty interesting when you think about it.
exactly. Also, water is the element of life. Mustafar was the duel that killed anakin and made vader. This fight, with water, had kylo ren's death and Ben solo's revival. Also, there wasn't any music, which made you concentrate on the action.
It's crazy, there's just something about this film that I cannot pinpoint.... But no matter what, I can just watch this movie anytime and it works. I could nitpick it to death, say I wanted this to be that way, ect. Yet, I feel that I could put in the movie, and just have a great time; there's just something about it.
Yea The film gets better for me every time I see it - I’ve come to the conclusion the film is JJ’s homage to the original trilogy - The fast pace, great character moments and quirky humour - it just feels like an 80’s movie to me - all the Exegol scenes look like an 80’s horror film The film is visually stunning and it’s got my favourite John Williams score in decades I don’t care what anyone says - this is a really good film
@@phnetty2101 That's basically star wars in a nut shell - all the films have things that don't make sense and is just dumb but in the end you realize they're just movies and you're supposed to have fun with them which is what you did

Kt R Fair enough, I was really just being a facetious nitwit with that flippant response. Like u said, if you consider it in a serious manner, of course Luke would have buried his aunt and uncle shortly after the film cuts away from him standing before the burning homestead.
@@tropicalcatdetective Yeah, they just didn't show it properly in the films. And it's also the last time (chronologically) that we actually got to see the homestead on the Big Screen before Episode IX, so there's that.
Some people might, but that's really a reflection of a failing in their own characters, truth is, if there weren't people you could disagree with, who would we have wonderful long debates/discussions/ what ifs/ here's how I would do it and a frankly impressive amount of erotic rey and kylo fan art. And, lets remember,as PAtrick H Willems put it, these are movies a space wizards, for kids.
Enjoy what you want to enjoy! Don't give a crap about what others think. Fun fact, the general public - especially fandoms - tend to be a bit stupid and egotistical thinking their opinion on A PIECE OF ENTERTAINMENT is gospel. I love these movies because it's a saga I was raised on and to see the story reach its end after so long, with all the ups and downs, fills me with joy. Because there will never be another saga like Star Wars that effected multiple generations and inspired so much in pop culture.
Star Wars is intrinsically and consistently spiritual in its themes. Characters who seek redemption and eternal life do so by committing an act of compassion or self-sacrifice. That is how they “cheat death” as Sheev puts it. In The Rise of Skywalker, every Skywalker dies and are reborn. Sheev Palpatine overconfidently exclaimed that “the Sith will be reborn!” and yet they are the ones to fall while the Skywalkers “rise” in some capacity. Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa are reborn as Force ghosts and transcends life itself by being one with the Force. C-3PO is the phantom Skywalker that is “born” to Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace then “dies” and “reborn” in The Rise of Skywalker. R2-D2 restoring C-3PO’s memory in TROS is undoing Bail Organa’s orders. Not specifically a restoration of his prequel memories, but just an inverse of those actions. Kylo Ren dies and Ben Solo is reborn. Water is commonly represented as emotional healing and the raging water surrounding the Death Star II wreckage visualized Ben’s moment of healing and redemption. This is a clear inverse of the raging lava on Mustafar that visualized Anakin’s raging anger consuming him. Ben was tempted by the light whilst Anakin and Luke was tempted by the dark. It is also a direct parallel to Anakin being redeemed on the Death Star II. According to psychoanalysts like Sigmind Freud and Carl Jung, water represents the unconscious mind where our instincts lie. Anakin Skywalker had trouble trying to mature in the Prequel Trilogy due to his Jedi teachings that Force him to abide by reason over his instinctive passion and attachment. Killing Han Solo is Ben Solo’s way of convincing himself that he’s maturing. He wants to let the past die (and he did “kill” it) so he can look towards his own dark future, but he instinctually hesitated killing Rey and regretted killing his father. Han‘s selfless sacrifice made out of love is an aspect of Ben’s memory that he neglected but is now realized after Leia and Rey showed him compassion. He became a passionate little boy again when he acknowledged Han as “dad.” Rey dies a Palpatine and Rey is reborn a Skywalker. Force healing is metaphorically representative of the Skywalker and Palpatine families healing past familial and generational sins. Sheev Palpatine “killed” Anakin Skywalker who killed Padmé Amidala (and even Bail Organa “killed” C-3PO at the same time) as a way to wipe out the the Skywalker lineage so it could never be reborn. Darth Vader and the Empire were born out of that. However, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa were the secret newborn hope for the Skywalker legacy. Luke became a legend and redeemed Anakin which led to Sheev’s death. However, because Disney decided to make a sequel trilogy, they had to give it a purpose that honors the legacy of George Lucas’s magnum opus. So Sheev tried to pull a Darth Plagueis and cheat death through cloning so he can subliminally seduce the last Skywalker, Ben Solo. Luke, in poetic Star Wars fashion, repeated the use of the failed prequel Jedi teachings and failed Ben exactly how Obi-Wan failed Anakin. Kylo Ren rose like how Darth Vader rose. Luke was hesitant to train Rey because she was a Palpatine and he instantly knew that once Rey said she’s from Jakku. However, it took that Palpatine of all people to be the one to instill hope into Luke that the legacy of the dogma and failure of the Jedi can be changed and revitalized. Both Ben and Rey come to an intimate understanding that her parents are nobodies and she had no place in the Skywalker story. Ben then later revealed to Rey that she indeed has a place and that she’s a Palpatine. Rey’s parents being nobody still has merit and a role in the story despite being retconned in The Rise of Skywalker and even Rian Johnson entertained the idea of the writers for Episode IX pulling a “from a certain point of view” for that. The Rey Palpatine reveal more so recontextualized Rey’s parents’ intention to protect her from her grandfather, but other than that it wasn’t undone in any way. It exemplified how Rey needs to come to terms with how she was truly alone and it also doesn’t change the fact that she grew up to be a scavenging nobody like her parents so she goes about her journey like so. This is something Sheev Palpatine reiterated since he was aware that she wasn’t in the right mindset to take the Sith throne. The Palpatine reveal being done in the third film even strengthened her decision to stay with the Resistance since fighting with them in that one year time span is more than enough time for her to feel comfortable considering them her family. Her lack of parents is also a neat mythological expansion and synthesis of Anakin Skywalker not having a father and Luke Skywalker not having a mother. Anyway, Ben then reveals to Rey that they are a Skywalker-Palpatine dyad in the Force which indicative of them being the last hope to put an end to their familial sins. Rey decided exile herself on Ach-To after giving Ben his last chance to redeem himself. Ben was then redeemed by his father, much like how Anakin was redeemed by his son. Luke passes on his lesson of failure to Rey and instilled hope in her being the legacy of the Skywalkers and the Jedi despite her Palpatine blood. The Saga starts with the Jedi acting on their fears which blinds them to their downfall and the Saga ends with Luke telling Rey to confront her fear and rectify those mistakes. So Rey rejected and killed Palpatine with the Skywalker lightsabers Mace Windu style with all the past Jedi to aid her to prevent the Sith and a new Empire to be reborn. Ben revived Rey by laying his hand on her womb region to transfer his life force. he did what Anakin never could with Padmé by saving the woman he loved. This is a deliberate riff on a prince bringing a princess back to life by kissing her dead corpse in a fairy tale and Star Wars is meant to be a modern fairy tale. Rey, a Palpatine who grew up as a nobody and was inspired by the legend of Luke Skywalker, has now become the next maternal Shmi Skywalker figure who “birthed” a new legacy of Skywalker beyond blood by carrying the title. Once she declared herself as “Rey Skywalker,” the cycle of the sins of the Skywalkers and Palpatines have halted and balance is restored once more. JJ Abrams, the most compulsive of crowd-pleasers, didn’t undermine the immensely happy victory celebration in Return of The Jedi with an even happier ending for The Rise of Skywalker. Instead, he melds together the tragic quality of the prequel trilogy’s ending and the cheerful ending of the original trilogy to leave the Saga off with a bittersweet ending. Perhaps even more bitterness than sweetness. Yellow is the color of youth, creation, technology so Rey’s creation of her yellow lightsaber on Tatooine in the final Skywalker Saga movie is a direct riff of Anakin Skywalker’s creation of golden C-3PO and his yellow podracer on Tatooine in the first Skywalker Saga movie. Anakin has maintained his association with the color yellow with his use of the Naboo starfighter, the airspeeder in Attack of The Clones (which is based off the yellow sports car in George Lucas’s 1:40.08, a student film he made in his youth), and his Jedi starfighters in both The Clone Wars and Revenge of The Sith. This was a severe sign of him not being able to mature because of the Jedi’s teachings that use reason to hold back his passions. Luke Skywalker wore a yellow jacket at the end of A New Hope as he was at his youngest in the story which adds to the movie being a light, straightforward, crowd-pleasing, coming of age tale which is also the antithesis to his father’s inability to mature. In The Empire Strikes Back, he wore a dirtier tan suit, showing that youthfulness fading away once he learns his father is the most hated man in the universe. He then wears black in Return of The Jedi, showing how he’s becoming more like his father and being tempted to the dark side as he was. Rey’s creation of a yellow lightsaber at the end of her journey is indicative of a renewal of her childhood rather than a regression to it. She dies a Palpatine and retires her adulthood as she is reborn a Skywalker (via Ben Solo’s life force) and is given a new childhood. The final scene is her returning to a familiar home to honor the Skywalker legacy by burying the lightsabers and also to make peace with her own upbringing. The green lightsaber represents the balance that’s holding passion (red) and reason (blue) in tension. Qui-Gon Jinn wielded a green lightsaber which represents his underlying dislike of the teachings of the Jedi. Luke Skywalker wielded a green lightsaber as he was tempted by both the light and dark sides. The yellow lightsaber represents the transcending of both the red and the blue. The red lightsaber, representative of the Sith, is cast into the sea. The blue lightsabers, representative of the Jedi, are buried underneath the surface of land. The yellow lightsaber is a symbol that represents the Skywalker family, a family who’s love and bond is so powerful that it transcended blood and were granted the light side power to cheat the deaths of the ones they love by virtue of compassion and self-sacrifice.
Incredible..... I’m gonna write all this down, this does an amazing job explaining the purpose of the Sequels and how it all fits together as an amazing end to the Skywalker Saga, great job man 👍🏻
the grapist Cute? That’s all you could gather from the highly informative story.... Cute? Fans like you must be so hard to please if that detailed story outline doesn’t impress you.
Rey and Kylo Ren being able to interact with each other through the force without them dying is set up in The last Jedi. They weren’t force projecting the same way Luke was. Even then, Rey and Kylo were in the same planet. Luke was in another point in the galaxy. Good video, just wanted to point that out.
Muggins, Hahaha... you really think this? It's pure sarcasm. Almost every sentence suggests this. The whole video's a joke. Come on, no one with an ounce of intelligence, the maturity of anyone older than a child, let alone an appreciation of movies or stories sees this as anything but a poorly executed CGI mess with as contrived a story as you can get. Rewatch it again and you'll see.
I was gonna go to bed but ended up watching this whole video instead. It sums up how I feel about TROS so well. I like it, it's a fun movie that I found to be an emotionally satisfying end to the Skywalker saga, but I also have some major issues with it and it's definitely my least favorite of the Sequel Trilogy. I get why lots of people hate it, but there are so many moments that break my heart (in a good way) or leave me with a smile on my face (sometimes both at the same time) that I can't help but like it. 24:00-24:29 That entire "Ben Solo-The Fucking Man" sequence had me roaring with laughter. It was all so true! I'm one of the minority of Reylos who was satisfied with Ben's fate (yes, we do exist!) Yes, it was sad, but it was a fitting end to his character, and it was narratively, thematically and emotionally satisfying, to me at least. I love his redemption arc and love story with Rey, and I don't need him to come back, because even though he's my favorite SW character, he had a fantastic story with a satisfying end, and that's more important to me than him getting a traditionally happy ending. And it's sad for Rey, sure, but she's strong, much stronger, emotionally speaking, than Ben ever was, and she'll recover with the help of her friends. Not to mention that Ben will always be with her in spirit, as stated in the novelization. Sorry to get all Reylo there, but I just wanted to show that we're not all annoying like that! Anyway, yeah, great video. Love SW, love the ST, like TROS, warts and all.
I totally agree with what you say about the fate of Ben Solo here. I never considered myself a Reylo, but I adore the intertwining stories of Kylo Ren and Rey in these films. I love that TROS solidified their romantic attachment , and now we can re-watch the sequels through the lens of an almost operatic romance. And gosh Ben's death breaks me, but like you said it ticks all the right boxes - it's "narratively, thematically and emotionally satisfying". That's really all we can ask for. Generally speaking, would I have liked Ben Solo to live? Of course! But the completion of his story is so perfect, I just can't complain (especially considering the Anakin parallels). And the way he smiles at Rey at the end ... he's now let go of of all the conflict and pain that has tormented him, and he's finally at peace in the arms of the person he loves. And that choice was entirely his, to give his life so that she could live. It's tragic, but it's so dang beautiful. To paraphrase Maj0r Lee, "yes it's sad - that's why it's so good!". I can't really put it better than that.
@@ClaireQuigleyQuip Exactly! I didn't want him to die going into this movie, but I knew it was a distinct possibility (I had avoided the leaks), so his death didn't upset me beyond the normal "being sad when a beloved character dies," and the more I thought about it, the more I realized it was a lovely end for his character and fit perfectly with the themes of SW. And I'm so glad he got to finally experience love and happiness, and went out with a smile on his face, having done what Anakin couldn't (saving the woman he loved.) Perfect. ❤
While I think it’s the weakest in the sequel trilogy, TROS is definitely a very watchable and fun film. It has its problems, but there’s more to enjoy than there is to dislike, and that’s what some people don’t really get IMO. The more and more I watch it, the more and more fun I have and the more and more I like it
Alex Madden There is so much to dislike more than enjoy. It takes everything generic in the Star Wars universe and makes one big generic clusterfuck of a film.

Major respect to you for not shying away from this film's rather numerous and crippling flaws but also unashamedly voicing your enjoyment of it. I enjoyed the refreshing take and can in a way walk with you to that pier so to speak. I find the RoS to be absolute nonsense but it's also FUN absolute nonsense. IX was never boring, that I can compliment it with. Do I think it's a good story, not really. Do I think it's an enjoyable film, absolutely.
I love the feeling that watching these movies is like listening to a medieval wondering minstrel who is fitting his story to the chords he is playing...
Another underrated moment people aren’t talking about is the Rey vs Dark Rey fight. “Only what you take with you”-Yoda Rey feared that deep down she was a monster so that’s what she encountered. In fact what’s even sadder is that this is how she’s ALWAYS perceived herself.
I must have missed the textual or subtextual evidence of Rey always believing herself to be a monster. Do you have any examples of where this is shown?
@@slaughterhome Ever wonder why Rey rejects the lightsaber and the metaphorical call to action? Because she doesn’t believe she’s worthy. She runs away because at her core Rey is someone who doesn’t like herself very much. Ever wonder why in Rise of Skywalker her dark doppelgänger says “don’t be afraid of who you are?” Remember how Yoda’s words “only what you take with you.” Those feelings didn’t come out of nowhere. Put yourself in her shoes. How can someone not resort to “what’s wrong with me” after being abandoned for fifteen years since she was four years old, and no matter how many times you beg, plead, and scream at the heavens mom and dad aren’t coming back? Rey truly thinks “they abandoned me because I must be a horrible wretch.” That’s why she believes the Jedi aren’t talking to her, and Kylo uses this to manipulate her. Her fear turns to frustration and in an act that started out trying to save Chewbacca, Rey suddenly became more concerned about proving she isn’t powerless. All that mattered was winning. As a result force lightning came out. She was selfish and because of it one of her closest friends was almost killed. One more domino tipping in a chain of events that lead Rey to exile herself on Ahch-to. Luke asks her what she’s most afraid of “myself,” Rey replies. I saw Rey’s tears at the end of Rise of Skywalker as happy tears. When she hugged her friends she was so proud of herself. All her life she’d thought there was something wrong with her, that she’s horrible, but she wasn’t. She saved everyone and didn’t give in to hate. The lonely scavenger has finally found inner peace and the belonging she’d always wanted.
You made some excellent points in this video. I acknowledge The Rise of Skywalker's flaws and some of them even upset me. But meanwhile I can still enjoy it for the good it has and love it as the Star Wars finale that it is. I was super excited for this movie before its release, I built up on so much hype. I went in the IMAX 3D showing on opening night with a worried but open mind without looking at any reviews, blinded by the excitement of this being the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga. And when I walked out of the theater, I didn't know what to think about it. I was surprised how disappointed I was with its rushed, messy, and complex storyline and its lack of an epic finale. But maybe I just needed to refresh my mind and rewatch it to get a better understanding of it and see the good again. Star Wars is special to me and I'm really passionate about it, so when I walk into these movies I don't ignore the flaws but I focus more on what I love rather than what I hate. The Rise of Skywalker had many good concepts, and many issues. But that didn't stop me from accepting it as a satisfying and epic finale for the Star Wars Saga. It had great action, visuals, cinematography, music, character arcs, and themes. Rey and Ben's arcs specifically were handled so well. And I like the thematic idea of in the end, it's about choosing who you can be and which family's legacy has inspired heroes like Rey and Ben to save the galaxy. That's also why I like the title "The Rise of Skywalker."
I agree with legit 99% of EVERYTHING you have said here, minus the Rey Skywalker line and the Rey being a Palpatine. I admit it was predictable and that grin at the beginning gave it away, but I do still like it.
I respect his opinions but most things he called positives I would still call negatives. Hux being a spy makes no sense. He is facing execution or at least live in prison if the first order fails. The fake out deaths feel cheap. We want to schock people but do not actually want to deal with the consequences. What he calls the last light saber dual between rey and Kylo was a mess. She wanted to kill the emperor and he also wants to take her to kill the emperor.... They want the same thing, why are they fighting? Rey being a nobody was one of the few things the last jedi did right imho and they reversed it...
@@kcJOOONES Hux is one of the highest ranking members of the new order. He was the one giving the command for destroying eniter planets. He has recently turend traitor out of spite because he wants Kylo to lose. Lets overlook the outcomes for him. 1. The good guys wins: Hux needs to stand trail for commiting mutliple warcrimes likes genocide. He is lucky if he will not get executed for his acts. Life long in jail is the best he can hope for. 2. Kylo wins: Hux is seen as a traitor and gets executed. 3. The emperor wins: The emperor has no dealing with Hux but will judge him on his past. He can't afford someone who has been proven to betray his allies. The emperor is not the kind of guy that lets people walk away either, certainly of that rank. He will probably kill him. The best outcome for Hux turning traitor (for him) is life in prison but he will most likely in all senarios be executed. Becoming a traitor is a death sentence he gives himself. He could just have tried to win for the first order and await a change to ussurp power.
@@JeroenDoes He was so high in command because of Snoke and ever since Snokes death hes been working under someone who he already despised in the first place. All Hux does now is follow commands from Kylo Ren and is pretty much a joke to the higher ups of the first order, Kylo pretty much ruined everything for him. I think his hate and anger towards Kylo could've definitely ended in him making these decisions even to his detriment
You know, I loved The Force Awakens and adored the Last Jedi! I left the Rise of Skywalker with mixed feelings on the first viewing. I know it has flaws, but after so much time I spent thinking of it, I think its greatest flaw is that it was the end!
Rey: learns she has a darkness and must face it. Ben Solo: after long years of manipulation and suffering decides to throw aside his darkness to help the ones he cares about. Finn: looks back on his journey, and realizes there is more to him than even he realizes. Poe: his past comes back to haunt him, as well as inspire him.
When did she ever have a darkness in this film lmao, she somehow used force lightning by forcing too hard, and there was the dumb vision, and she randomly decided to copy Luke, but at what point in this film do her choices, actions, or goals ever line up with something evil?
Them being able to harm each other in their force talks was a thing from the last jedi. In TLJ, when the water splashed on Ach to, some water landed on Kylos hand showing that each other's environment affects the other person.
@@spicysnowman8886 I disagree, it was one of the best parts. They actually did something cool with the force and expanded on the "force communication" first introduced in Empire. They also showed that it's a rare thing only two people connected by a vergence in the force can do.
@@NukeDetonator sure but why is this happening between two random force sensitives when there are no jedi left and it never happened when there were hundreds maybe thousands of jedi, also the cool thing about the force is it has rules which keeps star wars from being a cluster fuck of ridiculousness and ROS just ignores the previously implied rules you dont need to make shit up in order to tell a good story I dont consider the sequels cannon and I dont associate them with the other movies because they ruin everything about the first 6 movies
@@spicysnowman8886 Two random force sensitives? Um no. Also their minds were linked by the force, and we cant say it hasn't happened before just because we've never seen it? Tell me what "rules" the force has? It changed every damn movie in the OG series. In Episode 4 it can help guide missiles, make someone disappear, create sounds, mind control people, choke people, and give someone sight when they're blind. In Episode 5 it can all of a sudden bring things towards you, levitate things, make oneself a GHOST, create apparitions (Darth Vader), be able to jump super high, talk to someone a long distance away, and deflect fuckin blaster bolts with ones hand. Then in episode 6 it can allow someone to shoot lightning out of their hands and throw lightsabers like boomerangs. Not to MENTION that in the prequels the force can literally make A CHILD OUT OF NOTHING! There are no real rules and not even any implied rules here. None of the force powers in the sequel trilogy contradict anything in the previous trilogies, as they are either rare powers or lost powers (as seen in the ancient Jedi texts). If anything, the new trilogy establishes that the more force power one uses and the more powerful that force power is, you could risk dying because of it or seriously draining oneself. It ironically establishes why Jedi dont just use the force all the time and sets up consequences for using too much.
NukeDetonator sequels suck. Stop trying to defend this trash. Force teleportation makes no sense. They learn a completely unheard of Force power by accident, and master it within a year. It’s complete bullshit.
That's what I think too. The films deserve it, since all 3 of them are good STAR WARS films. And STAR WARS has always had a history of retroactive changes. All the OT movies repeatedly were worked on after their initial release, and even The Phantom Menace received a digital Yoda Upgrade in 2012's 3D re-release. I think that they will smoothen out this trilogy a bit, although The Force Awakens can remain unchanged I think, there's nothing wrong with it. My idea for a TLJ Palpatine scene is the following: after Rose & Finn land on Crait, see the resistance and say: "That's all that's left?", there is a cut in the film where it jumps right to the Resistance preparing for the last stand on Crait. Inbetween those two scenes, they should insert ONE scene of Allegiant General Pryde (Richard E. Grant) contacting Palpatine via hologram (like in that cool scene in TROS) and saying: "My Lord... I have received confirmation that we have lost our flagship and several star destroyers in the Crait system. Supreme Leader Snoke has perished and his position was seized by the master of the Knights of Ren." Palpatine: "Good... Everything is proceeding as I had anticipated. Await further instructions, Allegiant General Pryde. The return of the Sith is near." Pryde: "Yes, my Lord." *Cut back to Crait*, rest of the movie plays out as we know it. Maybe they can put the deleted scene of Luke grieving Han into the first act somewhere, other than that it is fine with me.
And for TROS, even though I really like the film, there's a bit more to be done. -C-3PO and R2-D2 should accompany Rey to Tatooine in the end, not BB-8 (he can tag along, but it makes more sense for the others to take part in the conclusion of 9 films than BB-8) -Ben Solos Force Ghost should appear next to Luke and Leia, similar to Anakin appearing at the end of ROTJ next to Yoda & Old Ben (You show them twice, first time when Rey sees them it's just Luke & Leia, then she says "Rey Skywalker", and then she looks back and sees all 3 of them. The last shot of the film would feel a bit more conclusive if it contained R2, 3PO and Rey looking at the twin suns, not BB-8.) -Luke on Ahch-To should say "Lesson 3" before giving Rey the final Pep talk. This is because Rey didn't learn her 3rd lesson from Luke on Ahch-To in TLJ and Rian Johnson deliberately left it open to be explored in Episode IX, which was done without actually calling it "Lesson 3". The scene in TROS IS lesson 3 for me, and they shouldn't be afraid to call it that way. Lesson One: "The Force belongs to everyone, not just the Jedi, and it will always be there." Lesson Two: "Luke made the same mistakes the old Jedi did by thinking the Sith/evil would never return, and by training someone who always had the potential to fall towards the darkness. If you want to be a Jedi, LEARN from these mistakes." Lesson 3: "You are a Palpatine, but that doesn't mean you're like him. Leia saw what you really are like, that's why she trusted and trained you even when I could not. You can be whoever you want to be (in the end, a Skywalker), but can also not run from your actual past forever (that's what Luke tried to do in TLJ and in the end he came back anyway, so Rey decides to go to Exegol and actually defeat her grandfather like a boss.)". Works as the 3rd lesson. -The Knights of Ren need more screentime. The scene with Kylo fixing his mask could be extended and some of the Knights should have a line or two, something like "Mistakes can be made. But mistakes must always be corrected. We, as individuals, are flawed. Only the Dark Side is perfect. And it does not tolerate hesitation. Or doubt. Welcome back, Master Ren." (*Kylo puts on helmet and they all bow down*) Also, they should show how they actually capture Chewie (they have an impressive arsenal, they could even use an electric net gun or they could just pin him down from all sides) -The film needs ONE scene to explain what Palpatine's return means for the Prophecy of the chosen one. Was it Anakin and Palpatine's last attempt to return is insignificant next to Anakin ending the physical existence of the Sith? Or are all the Skywalkers "the chosen one", because each of them contributed to balancing the Force in their respective era of STAR WARS? I'm fine with both, but it has to be explained. Rey could simply ask Luke first and say: "In the old texts I came across a prophecy. About a chosen one to bring balance to the Force. I thought that Vader had achieved this, but then why could Palpatine return?" And Luke can either say that the prophecy could have included Anakin's entire family, not just himself, or that the prophecy remains fulfilled as long as the Sith don't return. -They should remove the Holdo Maneuver in the background of the Endor scene at the end and just make it so that we see a Star Destroyer breaking apart due to explosions on the inside and surface. I actually like Poe taking a jab at it being a "One in a million" shot and that line of dialogue cemented Holdo's sacrifice as something special for the trilogy. It's the typical trope of the underdog winning against all odds, which is STAR WARS at its core. The Easter Egg in the end was unnecessary and takes away from that a bit. -And one more thing for TLJ: They should remove the sunken T-70 X-wing on Ahch-To with the T-65B we actually saw in TROS. It was nostalgic, but also fitting to Luke's character that he would keep this beloved ship/Red 5 for so long. That should be easy CGI work. And maybe add a few unusual technical details to the TIE fighter Kylo used to get to Exegol, so that it looks like a TIE variant that actually had a hyperdrive (otherwise he could not have gotten to Exegol in time). Maybe an Antenna like the First Order ones have and some additional tubes on the outside of the wings. Keep the OT look but make it a believable plot device. - Maybe cut out the part where R2 restores 3PO's memory. It would be fitting to have him survive the film but not remember the stuff that came before, since they also deleted his memory at the end of Episode 3. Just keep it that way, with Artoo being the only one to remember literally EVERYTHING from TPM onward. But keep the line about "Babu Frik, one of my oldest friends." That was hilarious comedy right there.
Oh man, I wrote a novel there... I actually like the Sequels a lot, but improvements like these would actually make it a better trilogy than it currently is and make it tie in with the Prequels a bit better. To Special editions, I guess! (And you'll notice that all of my suggestions would actually be do-able, since they're either special effects changes (which can be done by VFX artists entirely) or rely on shooting a few small scenes in a studio with actors who are still alive and would be willing to do it (Richard E. Grant who would certainly love it, IanMcDiarmid (although this could even be done by a voice actor and some Hologram CGI if he doesn't want to), Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Joonas Suotamo (who would DEFINITELY join in on the fun, I've even met him in person two years ago and he is a decent guy) the Knights of Ren, maybe Adam Driver, but they could use a double for that, Anthony Daniels maybe. That's it :)
On December 18-19 I got the opportunity to watch all nine films of the Skywalker Saga. From 7pm on the 18th to ending on the 19th at 7:30pm. From what I gathered to formulate my opinion, is that all three trilogies do not sync up visually, but have the heart of Star Wars' storytelling in terms of focusing on the Skywalker family. Star Wars 1-3 focuses on Anakin's fall to the dark side. 4-6 Focuses on Anakin's redemption on top of his son training to becoming a Jedi in the middle of a galactic war. 7-9 focuses on Ben Solo's redemption from falling prey to the dark side, Rey Palpatine finding her place in the Galaxy in the middle of the unfinished galactic war from the original trilogy. Most everyone, and the sequel trilogy felt jipped, because their nostalgic characters were dying left and right when it really wasn't their story. I think people wanted the characters from the original trilogy to be a larger focus, rather than a story of passing the torch to the new cast members of Star Wars. I've told people many times the reason we did not get flashback scenes as much that are were post-Return of the Jedi and pre-The Force Awakens, because of the fact the actors are old and de-ging CGI affects on them would like far worse than when they de-cgi Governor Tarkin and Princess Leia in the Star Wars spin off film: Rogue One. We did get a flashback in the Rise of Skywalker And it was pretty decent, but imagine if we had three films with that de-aging CGI mechanic and then three films of the new cast of Star Wars. That's one of the reasons the prequel trilogy going into the original trilogy and the original trilogy going into the sequel trilogy doesn't look as good visually. They still captured the heart of telling the story of the Skywalker family, however in my opinion. They all are beautiful movies visually, but it is clear how much of a contrast in technology is in the movies. Disney is making up through novels and comics and video games and spin-off TV shows of what happened post-Return of the Jedi and pre-The Force Awakens and I think that's the smartest approach in terms of telling a conclusive story for Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca and Lando. Otherwise telling their story post-Return of the Jedi and pre-The Force Awakens in cinematic fashion would confuse and bewilder and even disappoint many fans. From the get-go, the reason I feel people were excited for The Force Awakens was primarily the fact the original cast from the Original Trilogy was making a return and they wanted their return to be nostalgia filled and them going on an adventures together and coming out on top from the villains. Instead the sequel trilogy taught that these legacies were broken all because Palpatine little by little corrupted Ben Solo in falling prey to the dark side just as he corrupted Anakin Skywalker. It shows us life still happens even after wonderful victories and triumphs. It also teaches that if we aren't careful, history will repeat itself within family. The Skywalker has and will particularly effect the entire galaxy, because the the family is strong in The Force. Their impact in the galaxy is game changing in every sense of the form. You have Anakin Skywalker who is created by Palpatine and inadvertently the Force intervened by making him a messianic figure to defeat the Sith for a time, then you have Luke Skywalker who is to redeem the Messianic figure and then you have Ben Solo, who has to grow beyond them all and carry the legacy onward. "We are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters (and parents)." -Yoda Now many are upset with Palpatine's return. For me I feel differently, because his return was inevitable for a number of reasons. 1. Books that were published by Disney of Star Wars that were set in after Return of the Jedi foreshadowed heavily his return. He is the main villain throughout Star Wars 1-6 and it makes sense to me that he wouldn't be defeated so easily by Anakin throwing him over a figurative cliff. The mastermind who raised up an empire wouldn't die so easily. In my opinion he knew that Vader was going to be redeemed by his son and that his empire would lose to the rebellion. We learn from books published by Disney that the emperor provided the necessary contingencies foreshadowing his return after losing the Battle at Endor. 2. I was very concerned in The force awakens when Ben Solo spoke to Vader's fractured charred helmet calling out to his grandfather and showing him the darkness of the Force "again". Mainly because Anakin had restored balance by bringing down the Emperor's Empire. Then you find out in the Rise of Skywalker that Palpatine spoke to Ben Solo and showing him the dark side of the force with the voice of Darth Vader. Palpatine also created supreme leader Snoke whether that is a broken clone of Palpatine or that he biologically made a Frankenstein of a monster I don't know. But it makes sense that he would create a dark side force wielder no one ever heard of. 3. With Rey, being directly Palpatine's granddaughter, it would be a wasted opportunity if she did not confront her very grandfather at the conclusion of the Skywalker saga. Let alone a wasted opportunity, if Ben Solo did not confront the very being who seduced him to the dark side. 4. I was once told Palpatine's return in The Rise of Skywalker nullifies Darth Vader's redemption in becoming Anakin Skywalker. For me personally, redemption shouldn't be discounted by the amount of lives you take rather, the life you take for yourself in self-sacrifice for something greater. Their actions are not in vain merely because their greatest foe survived. Luke himself told Rey that there was balance of the Force for a time. Darth Sidious was no longer the emperor and the way of the Sith was destroyed. We learn from various sources that Kylo Ren and supreme leader Snoke were not Sith. We know that as well mainly because they did not have Sith eyes. They simply used what force they could for dark purposes based on the knowledge of their ability. Kylo Ren thought by killing his father he would become a true sith, when we see throughout the later movies he felt extreme guilt rather than satisfaction for killing his father. I love how by the end of the rise of Skywalker you see Finn, Rey and Poe in a group hug. My mom asked me why Finn was in the middle of the hug and not Rey. My answer was simply because Finn rescued Poe and he also met Rey. He brought them all together because he had the courage to leave behind the First Order even if it was for just running away at first. I love that the film ends with Rey visiting Luke's home on Tatooine. The very first Star Wars film that was released in theaters known now as A New Hope began on Tatooine. To me there was no other way to end the Skywalker saga in many regards and I'm truly grateful for the sequel trilogy being created. I'm looking forward to see what else Disney has in store for a galaxy far, far away. . . . I have only two complaints regardingThe Rise of Skywalker. 1. We do not see the political state the galaxy is in now that the Emperor and his military are finally defeated. I am honestly one of the fans of Star Wars who enjoys the politics expressed in Star Wars. 2. By the end of the film Rey looks out in the distance and sees the force ghosts of Luke and Leia. I would have loved if it showed the force ghosts of Anakin, Shmi, Padme, Luke, Leia and Ben personally. I know Shmi and Padme are not a Jedi, but I think personally it would give more depth to the mythology of Star Wars if Jedi could bring back their loved ones in spirit form who are not Jedi. I would be seriously surprised if anyone reads this and agrees with what I say. Either way I love all nine films of the Skywalker saga. Not equally mind you. But they definitely impacted me as a child, teenager and adult.
I loved rise of skywalker. It is my favourite film. I would have also liked to see more force ghosts on tattooine to say one last goodbye, that would rap up the trilogy. And ofcourse to see the jedi in the flesh and the cultists being sith ghosts with one final battle wouldbe the greatest thing in cinematic history
@@elijahlee3610 One year being the daughter of Leia Organa, an entire adolescence admiring Luke Skywalker and some psiquic connection with Leia's son, but sure, she can't honor the Skywalker.
@@JGPRIME25 You debunked yourself. Leia organa was just that, AN ORGANA. She gave up the skywalker name and didnt want it, in fact the books indicate she was demonized for being a skywalker. Ben was a solo and so was han. Rey was closer to han and leia than she was to luke. Luke and rey never bonded to that point she spent a few hours at best with him in the entire trilogy and most of it was luke trying to push her away. If anything shed name herself organa or solo. I actually liked the Rey Palpatine twist, and I was able to figure out the whole clone thing a few seconds into seeing all those tanks in the film's opening.
@@manuelzx7066 I wouldn’t say obvious but they had multiple people that could’ve been her parents. Palpatine is foreshadowed in Rey’s theme and Kenobi was foreshadowed when she gets Anakin’s lightsaber

I’ve been waiting for this review. And I agree with you. I enjoyed this movie but I’ll admit there are issues. But in the end I just love this movie as much as the rest of the sequel trilogy movies :). I love Rey, Finn, Poe, kylo Ren, zorii, babu, zannah, Leia, Luke, the voices, pryde, and Palpatine himself.
@Jesse Pinkman I'm sure the actors had issues with these movies too. but I enjoyed them as the characters they played as. I will miss Daisy Ridley as Rey and I look forward to other roles she has planned in her career or whatever it is she'll do. Disney Star Wars is wonderful to my eyes. you have your opinion that's fine. I'm expressing mine. I know people like me who like the movie. and really these movies are worse than holiday special and the Ewok movies? those are the worst. Disney brought back clone wars, made a live action show of Star Wars, had clone wars characters continue after that war (like Rex, Ahsoka, Maul, and Saw), made a movie that explained how the plans were gotten, showed thrawn onscreen, and showed new kinds of characters in the form of imperials, aliens, and the minor characters having bigger roles (just like clone wars characters)
@Jesse Pinkman call me bias, call me ignorant, but I just enjoy this movie so much despite the unanswered questions and plotholes. you have you're opinion I have mine. so let's agree to disagree
Jesse Pinkman You must be incredibly dense if you think no one loves these films. You must also be very dense if you think sending a heavily edited and biased video showcasing the actors’ “distaste” for these films constitutes a strong argument. Yes, it is futile to argue that some of these actors didn’t have issues with the movies, but it is childish to say that no one should enjoy the sequel trilogy simply because a few actors didn’t have a perfect experience with it. At the end of the day, plenty of people had a great time with all three sequel films, myself included, and just because a vocal minority of fans are bitching about “diSneY faN fiCtiOn” and forcing their overly negative opinion on everyone. I have no doubt that these films will be remembered fondly, and even if you don’t, try to have respectful discourse about it instead of shoving your unwanted negativity down everyone’s throats. Thank you.
Jesse Pinkman Are you forgetting that Harrison Ford wanted Han Solo killed off as early as the Empire Strikes Back? And how much Alec Guinness wanted to be separated from Star Wars? By your logic, all three original trilogy films are terribly made and should be disliked by everyone and will never age will ever.
I didn't see Rise of Skywalker until a year or two after its release, cause I wanted to let the opinions subside a bit. After watching all 8 previous movies, I put in the last disk of the Skywalker Saga box set, and absolutely lost my shit about how good I felt it was. The scene with all the ships reporting to Exogol with the FUCKING MAIN THEME playing, shit, i'm getting goosebumps just typing this comment. I haven't watched your video yet, but still wanted to give my own little piece before I did. In my opinion, Rise of Skywalker is the exact Saga ending we deserved. Bombastic, bleek, and by far my favorite Star Wars film
TLJ is still my favorite of the ST, but I did enjoy TROS even if there was a lot I would have done differently. Good video, and it actually changed my mind on a few things
@@blitzwing5439 Yeah, he made a movie I didn't like - that's why he must suffer a horrible painful death lol it's objectively bad the fact that i feel the need to day that clearly doesn't show that I'm biased (I'm trolling too btw lol)
I tried to watch this earlier and it was private I was so bummed out. PHEW!! Thanks for this dude you’ve definitely given me a reason to revisit it, I had quite a few issues my first time around
My favorite of the Sequels in my opinion, not perfect due to all its pacing problems, and I pretty much agree with everything said in this video. The part that emotionally broke me the most was when Leia died, I was already sad when Carrie died years ago, but seeing her die in the movie as Leia.... made me cry more then I ever have watching a Star Wars movie. Leias was the Trio death that hit me the hardest because in my opinion hers was handled the best. I loved pretty much every second of TROS, and maybe if it was a 3 hour film the pacing could’ve been less problematic. Aside from that though I love it and agree it’s an underrated film, and doesn’t deserve the hate it gets because of how much hard work went into making it.
OmniTrix15 It’s best not to address Fans like Motor, all he has to offer in a conversation about Star Wars is how stupid you are for having an opinion. It’s Best just to ignore him.
I gotta say, the 2nd act from Rey in the wreckage to Ben fighting the knights are some of the best of the trilogy, maybe even the series Kojimi is also pretty good
@@johnnylawrence4127 Hahahaha hahahaha yes. You can't tell people what to like or dislike, much like how I can't tell you either. Let's be civil here as well? Because I will SHUT YOU OUT if you aren't.
Let's be serious, the real problem is Rian Johnson killed off Snoke leaving no big baddie for the third film, so JJ brought back Palpatine out of nowhere.
@@lucasoheyze4597 It's not like the idea of Palpatine returning came out of nowhere, as it was kind of set up by the Darth Plagueis story told in Revenge of the Sith. You're even reminded of it with the line: "The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural."
Nathan Boatright dude if you look at almost any other third act it’s a million times better. The third act and other acts were not fun to watch they were just not fun for me knowing they pulled this crap out of nowhere I felt no attachment to any of the characters.
What an absolutely fresh take on the movie! I have no idea how I was recommended your video, but I'm glad I found it :) Nice to know there's people out there with reasonable, and fair critique. I honestly thought I was done with Star Wars after the polarizing hate that the film got, but after this, you've left me with a good taste for the sequel trilogy.
@@piggyeternal5724, this was not so much about his opinion, but rather his point of view on the film. Most people seem to blame the filmmakers for the trilogy, when it clearly is a product of corporate executives strangling the hired creatives. When I left the theatre for the first time after watching The Rise of the Skywalker, I was truly amazed by how well JJ Abrams and his crew handled the film, despite the almost impossible circumstances put forward by the movie before it. And so, after watching numerous videos on the film, drowning my head in all the critique, I forgot why I enjoyed it in the first place. As a filmmaker myself, I feel as if it's only fair to judge the movie based on the context around it. It was really a movie destined to fail no matter what. Therefore I have only the upmost respect for everyone involved that had the guts (regardless of contracts) to create this movie, knowing it would receive a massive backlash.
@@piggyeternal5724 Also, answering your question, other people's opinions are quite important for not only me, but everyone. Without them we'd have nothing to say about anything. Unless you'd like to live under a dictatorship, I'd recommend you to listen to your fellow mates and what they have to say.
I think in a few years this trilogy will be forgiven and appreciated for it’s merits while simultaneously realised and perhaps more entertaining for it’s flaws. Like the prequels!
Harrison T Maybe. Maybe not. I love the sequels but every time I try watching the prequels it’s just..... why? Are we just ignoring the problems with those films or is there actually something decent there. I’ve tried but I don’t see it. Help.
the only thing the Sequels will be remembered for is Disney's embarrassing inability to plan a film series. I watched every single saga film for May the 4th and I can safely say I will not be watching the Sequel trilogy ever again. Yeah, the prequels are shit, and are just as guilty as being cash grabs as the Disney films, but at least their baffling incompetency is funny. Kathleen Kennedy pinching pennies out of my back pocket while two directors fight over which way the trilogy's overall story should go is a waste of my time.
Kelly Peck I mean I don’t know who you are trying to convince for one because there doesn’t seem to be much creative infighting in Lucasfilm but ultimately I just find you funny. You remind me of that pathetic kid at recess that got so upset that the kids wouldn’t play kickball according to his silly rules so he went off in a huff only to try and justify to himself why kickball is a stupid game and no one really likes it.
@@Shapes_Quality_Control because the prequels tell an original, coherent story that expands the world of star wars whereas the sequels are a narrative mess with shallow characters. Classic example, why is kylo evil?
Thanks for sticking up for this movie. I love it. I saw how passionately the TLJ was defended on this channel, so it was great to see the good things about TROS highlighted here also (although with not quite as much passion lol). Great humor, though. I must admit, the reveal of Rey being a Palpatine was my favorite theme. It gives her character meaningful in-world conflict with the events surrounding her, and thematically brings the trilogy together. And, Finn and the defected stormtroopers also show the “democratization” of the Force. Its shows the Force can guide and affect “regular people” too without necessarily becoming Jedi. It was a good balance and satisfying in the end.
There were no plot holes, there were plot depths the size of a black hole. That's why it's not underrated at all, it's the opposite, it's extremely overrated. It doesn't deserve that 6.7/10 on IMDB, 4/10 would be more suitable.
I was the exact same way. When he caught the lightsaber I was like, "OMFG IT'S LUKE!!!!!" And then he stepped out of the fire and I was like, "Ooooohhhhh.... Yikes..."
MrNeedlemouse64 Hey it’s Lu- oh my god... how embarrassing Also did you notice that the Porgs look weird too? They’re like dirty or something. Also the island looks plastic, like a high school play set. I’m sorry, this scene just really bothers me, it’s like a weird nightmare.
The hair is bad. He's really blue too. When Obi showed up as a ghost in the OT he was transparent and had a white glow around him but he was still natural colors. This might be a nitpik but the blue doesn't look as good to me. It surprises me too because the team designing these movies always talk about how they can't help themselves from copying the OT verbatim.
Peter Short Yeah, the ghost effect looked weird as well. Also it’s the only scene in the whole movie where Rey wears her hood. Pretty sure it’s because Daisy Ridley cut her hair after they finished filming initially.
I think I'm experiencing a déjà vu... 😉 As I said yesterday, Lee, I'm glad THE RISE OF SKYWALKER grew on you. I also loved it, despite its snags. I bet it'll age well (for all the boons you listed in your video). 🌱
Really, entertainment is ALL that matters when it comes to films. Critically a lot of great films fall. Because normal people don't care about minor mistakes in the writing or whatever. The general public seems to love this film, it's just critics and angry fans that don't.
Black Bear I see you believe YOU decide what is a good and bad film. Everyone loved Jurassic World. However, I’m in no place to judge any of that series as I haven’t watched any of it.
listen man, bad writing can be entertaining, but it isn't always the case. don't lower your standards just because a lot of movies are shit, good writing is one of the most important elements of film. it's pretty safe to say that good writing makes a film more entertaining literally all of the time.
I love your insight about Ben going through exactly what Han went through (with a twist) as a means of redeeming Ben. Honestly didn't realize that the dozen or so times I've seen this movie. Kudos.
Honestly I loved this movie. It's kind of low on my list because of the bad writing, but Palpatine was amazing in this and it was overall really fun and emotional. Someday I might even move it above Hope, Clones, or even Empire. Then all the trilogy enders would be my top three But I'm sure I'll never move it above Jedi or Revenge.
I wish I'd seen this video earlier. I'm being honest when I say that I don't agree with this 100%. But nontheless you've shown that TROS isn't pure shit (which was kinda obvious from the get-go). I'm just glad you shared your opinion and I'm also extremely glad I was able to hear it.
I really think they teased the emperor in the last jedi because if you pay attention to the scene where snoke is kinda like force holding Rey the emperor's theme is playing softly in the background.
And yet it's been officially said there was no plan to bring Palpatine back for EP 9 until they were halfway into filming, yall reach way too hard to make the bad stuff make sense
Great summary of TROS’s pros and cons. I also kinda love the film but with many of the same reservations you’ve mentioned. My biggest issue with this trilogy, which I loved overall, is the lack of planning from 7 to 9. The first film set up so many questions that JJ didn’t think he’d have to answer, and when Rian took over he set up his own questions. In a perfect world JJ would’ve consulted on TLJ and Rian would’ve consulted on TROS so the three films would feel more cohesive. All that said though, I think it’s a great trilogy that made me fall in love with Star Wars again after the prequels left me unsatisfied. Great review!
The Last Jedi: "The character of Rose should not have been in this movie" Rise of Skywalker: "They did nothing with the character of Rose" -Star Wars fanbase
Pokémon master Ty The main reason I didn't like her was that her whole arc with Finn was completely pointless in terms of both story and character development, and it didn't help that it took up such a huge chunk of screentime. I liked her fine to begin with - after all, her mission was to encourage Finn to fight for something bigger than himself, which was a perfectly noble cause - but as soon as he was actually prepared to sacrifice himself to protect the Resistance on Crait, she literally sabotaged him for the sake of a kiss (after absolutely zero romantic tension had been shown on-screen). I just thought that whole segment of the film was poorly written; she herself undermined her one purpose in the storyline and deprived Finn of what would've been a great "hero moment", and since he ended up having virtually nothing to do in TRoS they might as well have killed him off on a high note earlier on.

I know that it not perfect. Not even near. But idk I always judge a movie by my enjoyment, and I enjoyed the last three movies really much even tho I grew up with the old movies.
Rey didn't become a hero by relying on her ancestry. She became a hero by breaking free of it, first by leaving Jakku & not waiting for her parents anymore, then by resisting the emperor.
How she break free of her ancestry when she didn't find out her ancestry until the 3rd movie? Only like 3 people knew her ancestry. It's not like her being a Palpatine affected her life in any way.
@@323Hitman She didn't need to know she was a Palpatine to forge her own path to greatness. She broke from her origins in a different way in every episode of the trilogy. First, she stopped being in denial & idealizing her parents when she left Jakku. Then she admitted to herself that she isn't descended from galactic heroes but still decided to do what good she could regardless. Finally, once she got the full picture of where she came from, that her parents made themselves nobodies to protect her, because one of them is a clone of the emperor, she resisted the same temptation to follow suit that led Ben to become Kylo Ren. So it wasn't her blood that made her special, it was her choices. Just like Luke. I'm disappointed that it hasn't sunk into every Star Wars fan that EVERYONE in the Star Wars universe has enormous potential, not just Skywalkers & Palpatines, but the story is only focused on certain people who REALIZED their potential. @@2QAYL1138 There were hints in the force awakens and the last jedi. Firstly in the force awakens, how strong she was with the force, her theme is similar to Darth Sidious and her lightsaber stance. Oh and and the droids also used to belong to his father and mother, in fact one of them was also built by his father. Star Wars is just full of coincidences bro

(Which is also why the Complaint that Luke only Knew him for a day ot Two is false, he Clearly Knew him all his Life.) Lea would be expected to have her Mothers R2 Droid, as R2 went with Lea to the Organa Household. Along with 3PO. It'd make sense for Lea to try to contact Obi Wan given the History between her Adopted Father and Obi Wan, it'd make sense for Luke ot be there as Kenobi lived close by anyway, and it'd be Logical for the Droids to be there, without much Coincidence.

chille 3000 Shut yo bitch ass up
Star Wars is intrinsically and consistently spiritual in its themes.
He became a passionate little boy again when he acknowledged Han as “dad.”
Rey dies a Palpatine and Rey is reborn a Skywalker.

This video makes me feel like I’m not the only one who likes this film
I'm one of the minority of Reylos who was satisfied with Ben's fate (yes, we do exist!)
Yes, it was sad, but it was a fitting end to his character, and it was narratively, thematically and emotionally satisfying, to me at least.
And I'm so glad he got to finally experience love and happiness, and went out with a smile on his face, having done what Anakin couldn't (saving the woman he loved.)
Perfect. ❤

While I think it’s the weakest in the sequel trilogy, TROS is definitely a very watchable and fun film.
“Only what you take with you”-Yoda
Rey feared that deep down she was a monster so that’s what she encountered. In fact what’s even sadder is that this is how she’s ALWAYS perceived herself.
Cool
shark teeth
PanaMoment Yup
Rey truly thinks “they abandoned me because I must be a horrible wretch.”
That’s why she believes the Jedi aren’t talking to her, and Kylo uses this to manipulate her.

THIS is the honest review I've been waiting for. Thank you. It made me love the movie even more.
Was it really any more honest than the other ones you've seen, or was it just confirmation bias?
Thank you this was a joy to watch. Finally someone who sees the films flaws and still loves it. I thought I was the only one lol
Me too
I love it so much it’s like my third favorite film
"They're watching a puppet show and they are puppets."
The Dark Crystal did that too.
Puppet inception
The very first scene of Team America did that to perfection!
@@JeroenDoes you're almost on the money here but how does Hux being the spy make no sense?
@@kcJOOONES Hux is one of the highest ranking members of the new order. He was the one giving the command for destroying eniter planets.
He has recently turend traitor out of spite because he wants Kylo to lose.
Lets overlook the outcomes for him.
1. The good guys wins:
Hux needs to stand trail for commiting mutliple warcrimes likes genocide. He is lucky if he will not get executed for his acts. Life long in jail is the best he can hope for.
2. Kylo wins:
Hux is seen as a traitor and gets executed.
3. The emperor wins:
The emperor has no dealing with Hux but will judge him on his past.

I loved them all, but I got mixed feelings on TROS the 2nd time I saw it
Rey: learns she has a darkness and must face it. Ben Solo: after long years of manipulation and suffering decides to throw aside his darkness to help the ones he cares about. Finn: looks back on his journey, and realizes there is more to him than even he realizes. Poe: his past comes back to haunt him, as well as inspire him.
Tbh I think this may have been the full plan all along with how much JJ rushed to get this in...
It's one of the worst parts of the sequels that you can just teleport stuff
I predict that they might make special editions for the ST, and maybe add a Palpatine scene in TLJ.
My idea for a TLJ Palpatine scene is the following:
after Rose & Finn land on Crait, see the resistance and say: "That's all that's left?", there is a cut in the film where it jumps right to the Resistance preparing for the last stand on Crait. Supreme Leader Snoke has perished and his position was seized by the master of the Knights of Ren."
Palpatine: "Good... Everything is proceeding as I had anticipated. Await further instructions, Allegiant General Pryde. The return of the Sith is near."
Pryde: "Yes, my Lord."
*Cut back to Crait*, rest of the movie plays out as we know it. Maybe they can put the deleted scene of Luke grieving Han into the first act somewhere, other than that it is fine with me.
And for TROS, even though I really like the film, there's a bit more to be done.
-C-3PO and R2-D2 should accompany Rey to Tatooine in the end, not BB-8 (he can tag along, but it makes more sense for the others to take part in the conclusion of 9 films than BB-8)
-Ben Solos Force Ghost should appear next to Luke and Leia, similar to Anakin appearing at the end of ROTJ next to Yoda & Old Ben
(You show them twice, first time when Rey sees them it's just Luke & Leia, then she says "Rey Skywalker", and then she looks back and sees all 3 of them. The last shot of the film would feel a bit more conclusive if it contained R2, 3PO and Rey looking at the twin suns, not BB-8.)
-Luke on Ahch-To should say "Lesson 3" before giving Rey the final Pep talk.
Or doubt. Welcome back, Master Ren." (*Kylo puts on helmet and they all bow down*)
Also, they should show how they actually capture Chewie (they have an impressive arsenal, they could even use an electric net gun or they could just pin him down from all sides)
-The film needs ONE scene to explain what Palpatine's return means for the Prophecy of the chosen one. I thought that Vader had achieved this, but then why could Palpatine return?"
And Luke can either say that the prophecy could have included Anakin's entire family, not just himself, or that the prophecy remains fulfilled as long as the Sith don't return.
@@ktr708 It's a good novel, man! :-D
@@blofeld39 Thank you, Mr. Blofeld. You were great in your old spy movies, respectively :)
That is the true burden of all masters (and parents)." -Yoda
Now many are upset with Palpatine's return.

@Jesse Pinkman a lot of people like this movie. The internet in about 20 years will be loved across the internet.

Aside from that though I love it and agree it’s an underrated film, and doesn’t deserve the hate it gets because of how much hard work went into making it.
wooooow youre an idiot

I agree...the best of the sequels! JJ did the best he could to follow up THE LAST JEDI!
I gotta say, the 2nd act from Rey in the wreckage to Ben fighting the knights are some of the best of the trilogy, maybe even the series

The somehow Palpatine returned line isn't that bad because how would they know how he did it
Yes, my problem is that none of the characters, palpatine included, seems to know how he came back
Let's be serious, the real problem is Rian Johnson killed off Snoke leaving no big baddie for the third film, so JJ brought back Palpatine out of nowhere.
@@lucasoheyze4597 but why do we need a big baddie, it's not a rule, i just want my boys kylo and hux to develop more
The shows will tie up this loose thread
@@lucasoheyze4597 It's not like the idea of Palpatine returning came out of nowhere, as it was kind of set up by the Darth Plagueis story told in Revenge of the Sith. You're even reminded of it with the line: "The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural."
This might be the most underrated star wars movie ever period. And has one of the best third acts of all time in my opinion
ngl it is there next to ESB, ROTS, and Rogue One. Dramatic yet not silly
The ending ruined everything

Help.
Tom Riddle I never said anything remotely close to that. You want to show me where I said anything you just accused me of saying?
the only thing the Sequels will be remembered for is Disney's embarrassing inability to plan a film series.
That's not a themeeeee
Yea I agree. This movie has A LOT of issues, but I just can't help but genuinely love it.

One of the best comments about the "Skywalkers are a kind of fulfill your destiny at the last moment type of family." 🤣
I agree about Rise of Skywalker being underrated. There were plot holes, but I feel like it's the most underrated of the films.
no ironman 3 is the most underated movie ever
@@electrofin515 I give that title to The Last Jedi. Rise of Skywalker proved JJ should've directed all 3 sequels.
There were no plot holes, there were plot depths the size of a black hole. That's why it's not underrated at all, it's the opposite, it's extremely overrated. It doesn't deserve that 6.7/10 on IMDB, 4/10 would be more suitable.

Thank you for commenting on Mark Hamill’s weird hair in this movie. I though I was the only one. It’s so... weird.
I was the exact same way. When he caught the lightsaber I was like, "OMFG IT'S LUKE!!!!!" And then he stepped out of the fire and I was like, "Ooooohhhhh.... Yikes..."
MrNeedlemouse64 Hey it’s Lu- oh my god... how embarrassing
Also did you notice that the Porgs look weird too? They’re like dirty or something. Also the island looks plastic, like a high school play set.
I’m sorry, this scene just really bothers me, it’s like a weird nightmare.
The hair is bad. He's really blue too. When Obi showed up as a ghost in the OT he was transparent and had a white glow around him but he was still natural colors. This might be a nitpik but the blue doesn't look as good to me. It surprises me too because the team designing these movies always talk about how they can't help themselves from copying the OT verbatim.
Yeah, I think the shot of him catching the saber is his real hair. But the rest of his scene was clearly a reshoot.
Thank you for commenting twice! I appreciate you doubly.
My pleasure! 🍻
I hope and think it will age well
I love this movie for no reason I’m just so happy every time I watch it
It’s the first movie that truly nailed the Saturday morning serial vibe the hardest.
So many problems but all outweighed by the light and enjoyable.
Through a critical point of view it's not that great but from an entertainment point of view its enjoyable.
Then all the trilogy enders would be my top three
But I'm sure I'll never move it above Jedi or Revenge.
I actually think just like the prequels, these movies are going to age well. With spin-off stories around their story exploring deeper aspects.
Having actually seen it multiple times, I absolutely agree with everything you say
100% agree.
Exactly how I feel.
Thank you sir for bringing positivity to an otherwise toxic and negative community that shames people for liking or disliking certain films.
The Last Jedi: "The character of Rose should not have been in this movie"
Rise of Skywalker: "They did nothing with the character of Rose"
-Star Wars fanbase
LoGic
TLJ was an abomination
Now to be fair, I despised Rose in TLJ and so was actually very pleased that she was practically non-existent in TRoS
Scrummy64 I like her
Pokémon master Ty
The main reason I didn't like her was that her whole arc with Finn was completely pointless in terms of both story and character development, and it didn't help that it took up such a huge chunk of screentime.
I can already tell I'm going to watch this video every time I get annoyed with people circlejerk-hating this movie. Good work.
Very glad to hear that Charlie.

Ugh, reylos are a cancer to this franchise.
@@Arander92 *Extremist reylos. Not all reylos are that bad
It's not like the main characters are the only ones capable of greatness.
@@2QAYL1138 There were hints in the force awakens and the last jedi. Firstly in the force awakens, how strong she was with the force, her theme is similar to Darth Sidious and her lightsaber stance.
