Welcome to Simply Mamá Cooks UA-cam Channel! I am a Mom to a blended Korean / Mexican American family that loves to share what I cook in my home. I am still learning and enjoy the process of making home-cooked food.

How To Make Tamales
Mexican Tamales Recipe
Easy Authentic Tamales - Навчання та стиль
Married a San Antonio native, living in Vegas...he decided we needed some ‘real’ tamales. Took 3 days to clean up, and the first tamale I made was the diameter of a baseball bat! He laughed at me til he cried and stored my first tamale in the freezer for over a year to show his friends when they visited!😁😯 I learned...and thanks to you and moving to SA, my Tex/mex skills have greatly improved!!♥️♥️
Oh my gosh that's hysterical your husband did that!
Welcome to San Antonio
Ooo baby my dad is. SA native they do NOT play about their Mexican food.
Why couldn't you slice the baseball bat into patties?
🤣😂🤣
Omg I made these yesterday & they came out PERFECT!!!! My husband said its the best tamale he’s ever eaten in his life, I was soo proud of myself. My mom passed away & I never got a chance to learn her recipe. I didnt think I could even make tamales on my own & Im sooo glad I did thanks to your recipe🙃 ♥️
I am a teacher and commend you on your clear explanations. I have tried several of your recipes and have really liked them. They are accurate and best of all it seems your cooking style is parallel to my own! I grew up in Mexico and Texas, have traveled over 30 countries and you are my #1 Chef!
Greetings from San Antonio, Tx,
I've tried this recipe multiple times, following the instructions very closely and each time they've been better!!
My family devours them in no time!!
Only once was I able to put some in the freezer for a future meal...
Easy recipe? Yes
Time consuming?? YES
Worth it?? ABSOLUTELY!!
Thank you for sharing!!
We pre-ordered your book as soon as we heard of it. So happy to be able to support you. Thanks for all the amazing videos you've done over the years!
Thank you! I have watched your tamales videos since April! And last week I worked up the courage to make this! It was amazing! I think I made my masa a little too soft because I was afraid of it being dried out. I have new respect for anyone that makes tamales! It’s a lot of work!
I have been following one of your older recipes to make beef tamales for over a year now. Anyone that tries them is so impressed! 😍🤩
So I can not tell you how precise the recipe is! Thank you so much!
I’ve been searching for a good tamale recipe forever it seems. I tried this one and they were perfect! My family loves them! My grandmother passed away and I never knew her recipe. These are a good as her’s. Thank you thank you thank you! ❤
I love making tamales. As a family we get together on Christmas Eve early in the day and do an assembly line. We use this time to chit chat, catch up with each other and reminisce. Love it
Yay! Girl I've been waiting for your cookbook!
Just made these...first time making tamales on my own. And wow!! They came out amazing!! There's literally no way I can improve them. My family is going to be super happy tomorrow! Thank you for this awesome video!
VERY helpful video. One of my work counterparts from SoCal gave me a tamale pot with masa, husks, chilies, etc. (best Secret Santa gift EVER) for Christmas and today's the day for the grand tamale experiment!
Yaayyyyy! Show off that cookbook! 🙌💗 I've used your tamale recipe for the last two years and they are just like my Grandma made. Perfect!
I absolutely love this recipe❤️thank you so much for having the patience and for sharing your knowledge and love of food
Kathie says: I made these tamales yesterday. I followed your recipe exactly except instead of using 2 dried Pasilla Chili peppers, I used 4 dried Ancho Chili peppers (plus the 8 guajillio chili peppers). This is the first time that I have ever made tamales...they were on my “Food Bucket List”. I want you to know that they were the BEST tamales that I have ever tasted! Yes, they are time consuming, but are SO WORTH THE TIME!!! Thank you for sharing your recipe! Also, today I received your cookbook! I definitely will be making quite a few of your recipes in the future! Your cookbook is wonderful!! Thank you!
Thank you so much. I've watched a bunch of your videos and they are all consistently thorough and clear. I feel so much less intimidating and will definitely give your recipes a try.
I don’t think anyone ever has eaten just one. Especially when they look this good. Congratulations on your cookbook. I’m truly happy for you. I’m ordering mine
I am so truly excited about trying out ALL OF YOUR RECIPES!!! You have come into my life when some medical issues have prevented me from really getting into my kitchen and go back to enjoying cooking like I did before my Dear Mother, which by the way became such a Wonderful “Chef!” Later in life but did Always invite me either come into “here Personal Space!!” For REAL!!! to come and Learn as she went cooking and boy was I TRULY BELIEVE WAS A BLESSING AND A Rare invite, to learn what ever new “Authentic recipes!” And if I was living out of town which I did, in Atlanta for about 13-14 years. When I wasn’t in Kentucky, my Mother and I would spend HOURS ON THE PHONE learning what ever recipes she had learned either from someone or a new recipe from someone who was originally from another Country or a new Recipe Book!! Her favs where, Italian, Chinese but the things that she was a True classic and I’m Serious when I say “good ole-down home country food?” NO ONE ELSE OTHER THAN HER SISTERS COULD BEAT THEM at their recipes, some with instructions and some from memory...She was Absolutely and I do mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BUT A GREAT COOK! God Rest Mama! But Thank you so much for getting me back into my kitchen and now enjoying cooking again!
How mush is your book
Cornhusks w Chili
Yum!!
I made these last year, they were to die for, my family loved them. They were amazing. Thank you. I plan to make it 2020 again.
I pre-ordered the cookbook! So excited...I collect cookbooks, but it’s good to know I already really enjoy your recipes. Thank you!
Girlfriend you make it look way too easy lol. I only make them on Christnas morning and they aren't done til dinner time lol and get this I buy my masa made from a mexican kitchen at the grocery store. I am definitely gonna try your recipe. I've been wanting tamales and tbere is nothing better than homemade😳😳😍😍😀 thank you for another wonderful recipe💗
My mom and grandma usually go to the Mexican bakery to buy “masa para tamales” and then add all the goodies to it. I have always wanted to make masa from scratch. Now I can! FYI, if you’re willing to work all day (starting at like dawn) you can make a lot of dozens of tamales then separate them into dozens wrapped in aluminum foil, label them with paper and tape (homemade label) and freeze them! You don’t have to cook them either, they last all year in the freezer “raw” (since the meat is cooked). Just open your freezer, pull out the amount of dozens and *POOF* tamales all year around! 😊
It's the wrapping that always gets me, and Mama shows how to do it right!
@@rawringcorky4416 oh my goodness! I'm totally going to do this. Tamales all year ❤️🤤
I’ve always wanted to make purple tamales

Traditional Mexican labor of love in our household!! Can’t wait to make them for Christmas! 😋
Loooooove tamales!!! I just pre-ordered your cookbook yesterday, and can't wait to try this recipe. I am a vegetarian and can't have tamales(well, at least not for the last 17 years), and now I can put my own filling into them. Congratulation on your book, and thank you for all your wonderful recipes❤blessings
Oh my gosh, these look delicious. I'm 72 years old, and have never made tamales. When I was young, I would help my mom with coating the masa on the corn husk. She would always ask me if I wanted to learn, I would always say "NOOOO"!!!. She would then say, "I'M NOT ALWAYS GOING TO BE HERE". How I wish I would have learned from her. Moral of the story, LISTEN TO YOUR MOM AND LEARN. SHE'S NOT ALWAYS GOING TO BE HERE.
You have given such EXCELLENT INSTRUCTIONS. Going to make these for Christmas. Thank you so so much. And I say THANK YOU SO SO MUCH from my heart. Merry Christmas to all. Stay safe and healthy. God Bless You and Yours.
Needed this! Since we are going to most likely spend the rest of the year at home. Might not be abuelas tamales but I’m sure these are going to be tasty!
home is where the heart is...
Right, great recipe!!
You make this look simple, good teacher!
❤️
Love pedro's tamales
Just made these with my wife. They came out great! We ended up making more masa as we had a lot of filling leftover. Thanks again for the recipe!
Perfect! I am planning on trying to make tamales on my own this week!
I absolutely love how you teach and make it so easy and exciting to make. No stress your awesome
Thank you!
Perfect!
Yay!! Just in time for the holidays! My boyfriend and I are going to use ur recipe! 😊
My fiancé and I are making some for Christmas for the first time. Definitely using this recipe! Thank you!
This looks so delicious!!!! Thank you for sharing. You're so awesome! ❤
Yes-I've been waiting for this!!!
They look perfect.
These look So good! Thank you for sharing with us. 🥰
Excellent instructions! Thank you.
Tamales are one of my favorite foods ever, and yours look amazing! I think they're a bit too labor-intensive for me to prepare and there's a sweet lady near me that sells delicious homemade tamales (chicken, cheese w/jalapenos, and pork) for $1 each. We order 40-50 every week. They freeze very well and reheat very well in the microwave. 😋 I love your channel so much and congrats on your new cookbook! 👏😊
Wow, great price!
Thank you for showing and for complete recipe😊
I've been watching you for years. I Saw your last Tamale video and bought some of the ingredients on line. Couldn't get certain items here. I bought/ordered your cook book and now I'm ready to make Tamales for the first time. Your way. I've made your other food with great success. Thank you.
OMG! A Simply Mama cookbook!Congratulations Luv ✨😊🎊🎉
Thank you! 😊

I pre ordered your book yesterday ! I always tell my husband I wish you had made a cook book because everytime I make Pozole I have to go step by step with your videos ! So excited
Tamales are my favorite. There is nothing better at Christmas than homemade tamales. Sweet for breakfast or dessert and savoy for Christmas dinner. I think the family should work together on this recipe to make it easier and to create memories shared. Thank you for the time you spend sharing your way of cooking tamales. Great tips!
We are going back to our Oaxaca roots and doing this for the holidays and I will be following your recipe. Bless you for sharing your recipe. You never let me down.
Throughout my life I’ve done lots of cooking. I tried 2 of ur recipes so far, tamale pie, & creamy squash casserole. Both were superb! U deserve ur cookbook to b a bestseller!
Thank you so much! 😊🙏🏼 Friday for a short while it was #2 on Amazon in the new cookbook category. That was an exciting 30 minutes. 😁😅
Simply Mamá Cooks. congratulations, wishing u continued success!
Awesome! I followed your chicken tamale recipe and your beef tamale recipe! Both were delicious!
You're the first one I came across that adds some of the chile puree to the masa...like my mother used to! Lost her too soon back in '86. To this day, people STILL remind me of how good her tamales were...like no one else's. Must say....I agree! Lookin' forward to trying your recipe too. You made me HUNGRY!!
....mouth is drooling and dripping everywhere.....so good.
Thanks for the printable! Can’t wait to make my first tamales! Love all your recipes btw
Love tamales 💖 I grew up watching my Cuban Familia making them. As kids we used to help. As an adult, I am intimidated to attempt it by myself. Watching you make helps put me at ease to try this recipe. Definitely easier than trying to read it from a website or cookbook. Except, your cookbook. So excited you added this recipe. Can't wait for your cookbook 💕 Can't wait to surprise my family with homemade tamales 👍🤗
You can do it!!!
Thank You so Much! Love your Video's! Can't wait to Make Them!

Deliciousssssssssss! Can’t wait for your cookbook!
Definitely making this thank you for sharing your video 🤗❤️
Oh how you made it look so easy love it!!
I used to buy mine at costco because I didn't really know better lol but then my friend made some and it was just so much better (and cheaper) so we used to do tamale parties before covid happened where we will make like a few hundred pieces (400-500 pieces between 4 people xD) with pork, chicken or cheese/jalapeno (or combination xD) and divide it up to take home and freeze (vacuum sealing before freezing is the best, and when I say "vacuum sealing", I meant we put it in ziplock bags and suck out the air through a straw before sealing it lol). Being broke College students (still are xD), having frozen tamales to thaw out for meals help stretch out our money xD Watching your video gave me sweet nostalgia
Hi Angelica I love all of your recipes! Thank you so much 💖👍😊 I also love your kitchen and your decor is beautiful! 😍
Making these tomorrow!
Can't wait for cooler weather to try these.
I've never tried making these before!

Recently found your channel. This old gringo LOVES it! Mexican cuisine is my favorite and you do it so well. Well spoken, explained, great video and edited.
Keep it up, catching up on older videos and looking forward to new ones.
The tamales came out so well and yummy. The right combination of ingredients.
true labor of love
Can't wait to try this. I love watching your videos. You make everything look so easy to make 😊
LOOKS delicious Thank You !
Yum! I'd attempt this recipe. I used to help my aunt make tamales. We just did the assembly. She knew how to make them. She was Italian.
Finally had the courage to try tamales this weekend. I used your recipe and they were awesome. I have a long way to go before I get the masa perfect but because of your video my first attempt wasn’t a botched one ! Thank you
Thank you!!!!
Love this 😋
Your masa looks amazing!!! Thank you for all your tips!!!
My goodness I love how you made these! They look fantastic, I’ve never had tamales before 😍
Perfect!! Now I'm craving them!! Congratulations on your cookbook!! One thing my family does to know when to add more water is before u put your tamales in the pot is add a few coins in the bottom that way the coins will make noise when u need water..Hope's it helps someone
Great tips. Thanks for the video 👍🏽
Hey beautiful, just bought your cookbook! 💕 Super excited!
A fine demonstration, thanks.
Thanks for sharing! I love Tamales!!
Yes! Finally someone that uses the spoon method. Yeah there are other easier ways but I think everyone should do it 'by hand' at least once in their lives. My momma taught me to wet the spoon first then smooth out the masa onto the husk. Dipping the spoon in water repeatedly throughout the process.
Also my sister and I never liked the ' hot ' tamales so my mom would combine a lil batch of mass and meat with chillies and make big tamales for her and my dad. She called those Borrachos. So growing up we knew the jumbo ones were the hot ones. 😢 I miss my momma.
Wow, this is so helpful, I really enjoy how you speak at a really understandable pace and articulate the steps so clearly. All the tips are wonderful. Makes me motivated to go ahead and try making the tamales from "scratch"....no luck buying any kind elsewhere so far. Great, Thanks.
Thank you 🌺💐🌺
This is my first time to make these. Your tutorial is the best one I have found Thank you for sharing this ❤

We had so much he gave a few dozen to his coworkers (a bunch of hungry Airmen) lol and some of them have never even heard of tamales but everybody loved them! Just ordered your cookbook, it should arrive Friday & I’m so excited for you and excited to have your cookbook in our home🤍
