I still remembered one battle I fought as Byzantines, against a Spanish crusading army, because I didn't allow them to pass Constantinople. 1500 troops against 4300, on ridges. Lost around 700 compared to their over 3000. Such a good memory.. I really love this game.
Medieval 1 is the best one of the franchise, i bought it when it came out, and can still enjoy playing it now. its stupid how it can still be very entertaining.
This shows how superior the first four total war games were as they keep on improving each other without taking things away until Empire Total War came along.
This was the game that got me hooked on total war games when I was young I used to play with my dad and now I have played most of the the total war games and there dlcs
Paul Van Dyk did the music for this game. Apparently when he isn't making electronic dance music he's composing music for video games. Honestly, I'm only watching this video because I miss the music from MTW 1. Takes me back about 13 years. One of the best games ever.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! YOU"RE VIDEO IS THE ONLY EVIDENCE THAT THE TRACK PLAYED @ 5:52 EVER EXISTED. I LOVED THAT TRACK, IT WAS THE FIRST TUNE I EVER LEARNED TO PLAY ON GUITAR WAS I WAS 11. THANK YOU!
I love that the games music got implemented in stainless steel II I really missed this one. Not as good as Medieval 2 and not as detailed as Crusader Kings II but somehow I really like it.
@seismica Well the new animated campaighn map gives you more in the way of strategy, you can ambush from forests, set up forts and it offers you a more realistic experience. It adds whole new dimensions to the gameplay. But yeah this game does have a charm looking back, this was the first total war game I played still enjoy it now.
Grade 4: Plays Medieval Total War everyday after school for hours Grade 5: Plays Medieval Total War everyday after school for hours Grade 6: Plays Medieval Total War everyday after school for hours Grade 7: Discovers Porn Grade 8: Closes Porn Tabs and plays Medieval Total War everyday after school for hours.
have you tried right clicking on main game .exe > properties > choosing run compatibility mode for old windows, and ticking "run as administrator" ? this usually makes old games work
I love this game but I got a new computer because the one to have medieval was way too old and I have both empire and Napoleon now and soon medieval 2 but I want to know if medieval is able to play in windows 7?
Pyrrhus' elephants bring another set of glorious memories to me. Fortunately, ROME II IS ANNOUNCED!! :D I haven't played this game and first Shogun, but I have played every other Total War game including Medieval II. And I have a wish to know about this game...
medieval 1 had PERFECT atomsphere of the medieval world. It felt dark! TRULY DARK like it should be since the game takes place during the dark ages/middle ages (w/e)
Came onto the -Total War- series after this one. It's interesting to see how the older interfaces looked before the second version (after -Rome I-) came out with some major upgrades to the campaign map and battle systems.
I used to play this game back in the day , loved it so much - the atmosphere , the art , the music etc was just so well done - frankly this looks better than the 3D map of Medieval 2 , which frankly has no mystique to it , the map in this game is gothic-ish, the unit descriptions with real drawings are far superior to the 3D models in Medieval 2 , and seeing a wee Knight with a base for armies on the map is far cooler than a wee man walking around the map ... in so many ways CA were quite lazy
i think it'd be nice for Medieval 2 Total War to have had the period selection for the campaign; and maybe even the other Total Wars as well, like Empire especially.
I lost the game disc to this and now I cant play it anymore...Anyone know where to get it? I spent my childhood playing this..It introduced me to gaming :)
@DjURA92ortodox38 you cant put troops into boats, is you want to send them somewhere you have to have a link of boats in each sea region until that land province, then just send them to that region. For cheats you just press . , eg: .deadringer. .worksundays.
This was a game from a time when Total War actually made great games, nowhere near as great graphics obviously but a game that didnt need mods to achieve greatness like europa barbarorum and darth mods. God this game was just perfect game I would play battle of sterling bridge over and over
Does anybody know where I can find the soundtracks used while you are on the world map? I've been looking through a bunch of OST's, but it seems that it doesn't exist as a soundtrack in itself. Can somebody help me with that?
When I play Byzantine I take Serbia right away, don't like to give Hungarians more provinces then what should they have. Also that means more arms and money to them. I like to build ships and connect all ports available lots of money, getting really rich. But I also like to play with western fictions because of CRUSADERS. Good game even playing in now days.
It would be great if this campaign map style comeback with newer battle graphics and game play. This campaign map style is good for being to play a very huge battle.
@VertektArtist Same here. I started on Rome, but would love the whole collection just to have it. Besides, I need a good christening present for a computer.
hello excuse the inconvenience. I hope and answer me, I also I have the MTW in campaign mode but the game closes and leaves me on the desktop, what's your game version? Do you have a link to download a patch and crack? Utilis ¿deamon tools? please respond anyone in the world deve losing a great game as it is to forgive my bad English MTW and thanks
I have problems to start this game. The game is loaded, however when I walk into a campaign that is blocked, and get out in the windows. Does anyone know what the problem was and how to fix it?
While I believe Rome and Med2 to be the peak of the saga, medieval 1 had some features that should have been kept in later titles and make it worth to be played still nowadays
I just wanted to tell u people there is something I noticed so I just bought the witcher 3 and when I traveled to Skallige do follow the quest line something just slapped me through the face while enjoying the beautiful game and it's views and soundtrack I just heard medieval total war music it's totally the same like in this video I was like wtf!!!! :D Did any off you notice it.
I loved everything about MW1 !! And it beats MW2 in so many ways, like the way titles and deeds are given, no irritating stupid fake stereotypical accents speaking english, which is annoying !! the music, the art, everything ! ... just amazing
I'm huge fan of total war games. Have every single one plus every official dlc to each game. I bought Rome 2 in pre-order and... well, I'm dissapointed. After tones of patches, Rome 2 looks and works better, but it is still not what I expected. I think what plenty of people expected. Yesterday I bought Medieval Total War with Viking Invasion dlc for 6$, dont know why, but Medieval 2 is my favourite one. I hope Medieval 1 will be as good as 2.
Does anybody know, how I can lock all nations. Possible with the Viking Invasion? I only got Germans,France,England,Denmark,Russia,Italy,Spain,Egypt,Turkey,Byzanz,Poland,Almohads who I can play.
I still remembered one battle I fought as Byzantines, against a Spanish crusading army, because I didn't allow them to pass Constantinople. 1500 troops against 4300, on ridges. Lost around 700 compared to their over 3000. Such a good memory.. I really love this game.
That music, those sounds... It's been so long.
Miss this game so bad got a super nostalgic feeling when i heard the game music and sounds again, i needa buy this!
Go and buy... its available on steam
I know Medieval 2 is better in a lot of ways, but I prefer alot of the aesthetics of the first game. Feels a lot more 'real' somehow.
MTW is not any worse than MTW2 overall, excluding for graphics and bad controls and sieges and maybe poor diplomacy
Medieval 1 is the best one of the franchise, i bought it when it came out, and can still enjoy playing it now. its stupid how it can still be very entertaining.
This shows how superior the first four total war games were as they keep on improving each other without taking things away until Empire Total War came along.
The music in this game was still is beautiful. Perfect for concentration and study music
Jeff van dyke
This game never grows old, just wish SEGA or CA would release some sort of patch to make this game compatible with Windows 8.
Definately i wanna play this game with win 8.1 64 bit
Wh not mybe HD edition ?
Yeah it sounds good, even for shogun+mongol need an HD remake
i really enjoyed mtw 2, but something about this game always made me feel more immersed than the mtw 2.
1sts a charm
Still better than Rome 2
Of course...
I think that there both good
Best opening strategy is to build watch towers in every province. Helps control loyalty and makes it easier to see what other countries are doing.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
YOU"RE VIDEO IS THE ONLY EVIDENCE THAT THE TRACK PLAYED @ 5:52 EVER EXISTED.
I LOVED THAT TRACK, IT WAS THE FIRST TUNE I EVER LEARNED TO PLAY ON GUITAR WAS I WAS 11.
THANK YOU!
EPIC! .. i cant explain how many times i go back and play Medieval over n over again.
Almohads were easily the biggest lads going.
Ahh awesome memories watching this. Many fun hours spent playing this. And the music...ahhh :D
I love that the games music got implemented in stainless steel II I really missed this one.
Not as good as Medieval 2 and not as detailed as Crusader Kings II but somehow I really like it.
No, Medieval 1 is the best in the series

It adds whole new dimensions to the gameplay. But yeah this game does have a charm looking back, this was the first total war game I played still enjoy it now.
dont know about you guys but i for one wanna cry each time i hear the music and how the game brings back the old good memories back...
6:26 this melody sounds very familiar but i cant figure out where did i hear it from...
skyrim? or perhaps one of the other ES games?
i found it in Heroes of Might and Magic :)
+Matori001 kk

The music at 6:11 it's the same omg like in the witcher 3

LOVE IT!
I have a channel for M2TW online battles and campaigns but it's MTW where my roots are so big THUMBS UP for this! :)
Oh man, that song at 5.52 brings back so many memories

1:36 was saying to myself "gotta get those watch towers up first" then forgot about it. 8:31 that dreaded pop up reminded me
I liked how you would need multiple buildings to train certain units.
have you tried right clicking on main game .exe > properties > choosing run compatibility mode for old windows, and ticking "run as administrator" ?
this usually makes old games work
I love this game but I got a new computer because the one to have medieval was way too old and I have both empire and Napoleon now and soon medieval 2 but I want to know if medieval is able to play in windows 7?
No game that is made to this day can beat the atmosphere that is in this game.
great classic !!
Can never go back though
BTW....IF YOU WOULD LIKE THAT SONG. IT IS MY NEWEST UPLOAD. VIDEO IS CALLED "THE CHAPEL."
@ELcapalla2 wow!! do you think that this fix goes well also in XP? Where can i get it? I have ATI X850XT
Ikr. It has an almost magical feel about it.
Best total war !
Pyrrhus' elephants bring another set of glorious memories to me. Fortunately, ROME II IS ANNOUNCED!! :D
I haven't played this game and first Shogun, but I have played every other Total War game including Medieval II. And I have a wish to know about this game...
I wish someone would do a historical campaign walkthrough
medieval 1 had PERFECT atomsphere of the medieval world. It felt dark! TRULY DARK like it should be since the game takes place during the dark ages/middle ages (w/e)
Thanks a lot, I actually needed a video like this.
@Attisss Omg dude exactly same thing here. I wish i could go back and live that feeling again
like the interface, it so much medieval about it,and seems very fun to play, gonna download this shit right away!
Came onto the -Total War- series after this one. It's interesting to see how the older interfaces looked before the second version (after -Rome I-) came out with some major upgrades to the campaign map and battle systems.
Gotta figure out how to make italics on this forum. I did work out *bold*...

Played this ten years ago. Man, I'm old.
Is there a way to get the music that plays on the campaign map? i like it more than the medieval 2. if someone has a link to it, TY.
i think it'd be nice for Medieval 2 Total War to have had the period selection for the campaign; and maybe even the other Total Wars as well, like Empire especially.
Tried to play the game, but every time I started a new game as one of the factions itd crash.
I lost the game disc to this and now I cant play it anymore...Anyone know where to get it? I spent my childhood playing this..It introduced me to gaming :)
i stil have the game but i cant play it some thing wasent able to download i miss this game :(
in the campaign game, how do i prevent all my cities from rebelling all at the same time?
only as the king i hope. i'd hate to be the conscripted peasant who has to fight plate-armored knights with a pitchfork
@DjURA92ortodox38 you cant put troops into boats, is you want to send them somewhere you have to have a link of boats in each sea region until that land province, then just send them to that region. For cheats you just press . , eg: .deadringer. .worksundays.
I love this game, out of all of them, this is the best i recon, especially the Viking Invasion expansion, that totally 'kicks ass' so to speak
This was a game from a time when Total War actually made great games, nowhere near as great graphics obviously but a game that didnt need mods to achieve greatness like europa barbarorum and darth mods. God this game was just perfect game I would play battle of sterling bridge over and over
If you want! Would be interesting to watch
any ideas on how to get higher resolutions to work on this? I got the game but can't increase from 800x600
@Attisss stainless steel uses some in game(campaign and battle) music from mtw...But not the stunning menu music...
Does anybody know where I can find the soundtracks used while you are on the world map?
I've been looking through a bunch of OST's, but it seems that it doesn't exist as a soundtrack in itself. Can somebody help me with that?

Such a good game. The music is perfect and I prefer the art style to the newer games.

Hi Elcapalla, I loved this game but i played it not so much. In my new hardware I can play only mtw2. What is your hardware to playing MTW1?
I have problems to start this game. The game is loaded, however when I walk into a campaign that is blocked, and get out in the windows.
Does anyone know what the problem was and how to fix it?
epic music =) but so sad and melancholic
I want to start playing this again for old times sake - Anybody know a reliable download?
@razzledazzlerob Oh. nevermind chief. you were the one who gave me a comment! many thanks.
Because this came first before Rome. In fact, this came first before all other titles.
İ am missing this game so much :( best game ever.İ want to play this again.
As a direct descendent of English nobility with a castle still standing to this day in southwestern England, long live the English!!!!!
Intense nostalgia watch
i really WANT to play this game again, unfortunately my cds arent workin... so i gotta find the torrent asap !
I remember byzantine were fuckin' tough in the early period but beast on the high one!!
One of the sickest games i've ever played.
Anyone know where I can find the music?
While I believe Rome and Med2 to be the peak of the saga, medieval 1 had some features that should have been kept in later titles and make it worth to be played still nowadays
I just wanted to tell u people there is something I noticed so I just bought the witcher 3 and when I traveled to Skallige do follow the quest line something just slapped me through the face while enjoying the beautiful game and it's views and soundtrack I just heard medieval total war music it's totally the same like in this video I was like wtf!!!! :D Did any off you notice it.
@Panoso0 probably :P καλή χρονιά.
@ELcapalla u guys, seriously? still playing this old game?
Total War series has come a long way.
It's hard to imagine how great it used to be compared to the trash release that is Rome 2.
I loved everything about MW1 !!
And it beats MW2 in so many ways, like the way titles and deeds are given, no irritating stupid fake stereotypical accents speaking english, which is annoying !!
the music, the art, everything ! ... just amazing
oooooww~~~ this is my childhood :DD
in university, completing phd dissertation, plays MTW every weekend :)
@nerfaoc THANK YOU very much! Your my new saviour haha
where i can find link to download this game?
What? They were used to counter Pyrrhus's elephants
I'm huge fan of total war games. Have every single one plus every official dlc to each game. I bought Rome 2 in pre-order and... well, I'm dissapointed. They look fun but I know nothing about them. If you ever find time, I have a few questions you can probably answer.
What kind of questions?
adamczik They look fun but where do I start, which is first? Do they continue each other in any way? Which ones best?
almond125 You're asking about Total War games?
adamczik Yes. Iv looked at a few but never played any of them.
where can i download midieval total war 1??
Does anybody know, how I can lock all nations. Possible with the Viking Invasion?
I only got Germans,France,England,Denmark,Russia,Italy,Spain,Egypt,Turkey,Byzanz,Poland,Almohads who I can play.
i wish i could play this on my mac
yes it is able to play on windows seven
Fuck i miss the old Time! with these Epic Songs!
That would be so dope.
wow looking back from stainless steel or broken crescent in comparison medieval 1 had almost no provinces!
