Hearing the music and sound of this game after 15+ years is giving me tingles.... Music and sound design was just so atmospheric. Spent countless hours on this game as a kid, it was absolutely engrossing.
Amazing game. I really think if they remake Medieval 1 with modern options (population mechanics for example), diplomacy, sieges, battles and keeping the same style map, it would be a much better game than M2TW
How are you supposed to make ambushes or attack in certain zones of a province with this kind of map? Like if i am in tuscany and want to battle in a forest? Or if i want to protect a specific pass which is the only way to enter a province?
The atmopsphere on the world map is just amazing. The howling winds, the birds, and the fricking epic music: romance, adventure, battle, it's got everything.
I remember the first time I started playing the first Medieval Total War game. It was an incredible experience, not just from the gameplay itself, although the gameplay was very engaging, but also from the immersive atmosphere in the game. The strategic map on which the gameplay takes place captured my soul. The atmosphere was simply amazing. The old paper with hand-drawn hills, mountains, and seas. The black and white authentic illustrations depicting the life and warriors of that time. The sound of the game pieces rustling on the old paper. The spine-tingling music in the background, featuring ancient instruments, alternating with sounds of nature and silence. I was in awe of all of it, completely immersed in those wild times, what an astonishing aesthetic. I enjoyed this atmosphere for months while playing the game. It's a pity that the subsequent installments of this game series didn't have even a hint of such an atmosphere, focusing mainly on the technical aspects of the game.
I love this game. I remember being surrounded by Germans.. I had only a peasant army in the Middle East and ended up winning because of my fortress. The memory of that victory lives in my like an old war story haha.
There were aspects to MTW 1 that were in many ways superior and more engaging (like giving titles and titles being unique to the location) and offered better immersion than in M2TW. Though the combat and graphics were a big improvement, I feel a certain flair was lost. Not trashing M2TW at all, but just lamenting the shift in gaming in general. MTW 1 could get away with basic combat and viuals while having a deeper and more engaging strategic map and more flavor text. But When M2TW came along the trends in gaming, due largely to a decrease in general of people's attention spans... had already shifted. A shame.
yeah that's why I'm learning program skills on Allegro C++ using unity I will make a game very similar to MTW with another name, same map style, medieval setting, similar portraits, features, battle system but with better options and politics and diplomacy more complex as paradox games, improving sieges and slitghly better graphics, add more factions, units, regions, bigger maps, better economy and also more management. Maybe even naval battles etc. I will ask rights to CA for using their soundtrack and use my own tracks too or from other games or movies so MTW is not lost but only very much improved with some new ideas and my own engine (risk style map will be very similar to mtw)
@@jemperdiller We don't say Med2 is bad, we think it's great but I just think MTW1 was the height of the series, altough MTW2 and RTW are also very good (Almost like MTW/STW epicness), I would say that the series went downhill after Rome 2, despite I enjoy Attila and Three kIngdoms quite a lot I think they are not as good as the games were before Rome 2 (Shogun 2, MTW1, MTW2, STW1, RTW are all amazing games... empire and napoleon were playable at best but nothing more)

Is there a guide to this game? Why is there no stat screen for things like farmland? I can see what it will produce if I upgrade, but what is it currently???
Sorry, I cut off building the economy in the video because I thought it was too long and boring. Farm land is very straight forward. 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%. You can compare the income between now and if you upgrade.
David SG I see total income beforehand, but that includes all sources such as mines and trading. Do I have to subtract those numbers from the total to find the farmland total before that stat upgrade?
I actually have an interesting take on this. So in battles one thing I think is sorely missing from any newer titles is the ability to right click a unit and have a whole lot of different options for just one u it I though the depth for that was nice af. I must say I enjoy to style of settlements from rome 1 and medieval 2 however I find the newer settlements to be lacking in comparison. I personally think the perfect tw game would have the battle mechanics of shogun 1 and medieval 1, settlements like medieval 2 and Rome 1, and graphics of the current games.

You need ships. A lot of ships to avoid rebellion. Ships help you get anywhere in a year that means your king can get anywhere.
And, of course, ships mean money. That's the real way of making money in MTW.
