    The Benchmade bit was PERFECT.
    I always lose on eBay. I'm not paying full price for a used (often heavily used) production knife...

      If you pay full price for a heavily used knife, no wonder you always lose on eBay! You need to hold on until a better deal comes along. It almost always does, usually right after a bad deal is made!

    What a bunch of good, sound advice, much appreciated. I have gotten some good deals on Ebay but got a Case Peanut once, used, with a slightly bent tip that didn't show in pics. Case actually rebuilt the knife under their warranty, free, with 2 new blades.

    The benchmade card falling into the shot made me laugh out loud. 😆Because you are 100% Correct. knife prices in general are beyond over priced considering the cost of labor and materials.

    I personally like cold steel. My Finn wolf holds the edge and is a great knife

  • @claytonmarkin7863
    @claytonmarkin7863 8 років тому +4

    I would also point out that lower end knives can be had for better percentages than higher end knives. I just picked up a cold steel code 4 (70ish retail) for 35 for a 50% savings. You will never find a norseman for 50% off. BUT, entry level knives get the crap kicked out of them, so buyer beware

    Nice vid and good tips.
    Another tip: be patient. If there is an out of production model of the Spydermade ParaRift offered, it will not be the last to be offered. So do not immediately pay the overpriced offering. There always be another opportunity in the future. Just to protect paying to much. Maybe it takes another 4 weeks, or 4 months, or a year. But the offering with a more realistic price will come.
    A few examples: The Kershaw TIlt there was a time they sold for $ 1200 or higher. The ZT 0600 sold on a particular moment for almost $ 1000,-. And now, the Tilt has come to price levels around $ 650,- and the ZT0600 around the $ 500-. So patience will be rewarded.

    I try to use PayPal if at all possible, most use it...I bought a bu-t-full Victorinox from S. Africa. It never arrived, but the seller had tracking numbers and it arrived in NYC, where some jerk stole it, I guess. Anyway I let it slide, cause the seller did his part. Sometimes you lose..sometimes you win...

    There was a HUGE bubble around Rolex watches for a while. The GMT Batman was selling for 2-3x retail for a long time. People finally realized that a $7,000 watch isn’t worth 16-18,000.

    I really wish i could buy a hinderer or Chris reeve,but no one can be bothered to ship outside the Us. I could buy from an american store but Hinderers are never in stock & the Sebenza 21 is not made anymore.
    There's a lot of talk of how good the knife "community" is & how people help each other out in the knife groups....but filling out a damn customs form is apparently too much.

    Very well done video Mr Nick. but I guess I'm just a big fool. I only buy knives new and only buy what I like. if I see something I might like I goto San Francisco to the big knife store and put it in my hand to see if it's really something I would want. if it is then I seek it out online or pick it up local. might be a bit more money but I don't ever have to worry about flushing any money down the toilet. I have a few knives I like so much that I have 3 and 4 of them. but at 45 years old your collection gets big. been doing this for over 30 years. only got into high end knives in the last few years.

    • @deanalbertson7203
      @deanalbertson7203 6 років тому

      With "used" knives, they are likely to have any number of defects, not to mention the chance to get a fake one. The used junk being sold on ebay is often not much cheaper than buying them new at Blade HQ. I'll pay a few extra bucks to get a new one.

    I actually bought my PM2 used for $80. It seemed like to good of a price and I was paranoid at first because I thought I was getting into a Chinese clone, but everything checked out in the end and I was satisfied with the knife. Thank you for sharing your wisdom of buying used with us. I will keep this in mind when I buy used again.

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  8 років тому

      +Joshua Jacob That's excellent. PM2s are dangerous, because there are so many clones. But I'm thrilled it worked out for you. Enjoy!

    • @joshuajacob6402
      @joshuajacob6402 8 років тому +2

      +Nick Shabazz Very dangerous indeed, my friend! The key to know whether you have a clone or not is the embedded liners. The liners in a real PM2 has 3 drilled out pieces, in the clone only 1.
      It is truly scary to see fantastic midtech, custom and product knives cloned. I feel bad for first time buyers and people who are not experienced in recognizing a real from a clone.

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  8 років тому

      PM2 clones are getting better each day, even those signs aren't always as reliable. The best thing is comparison, and as they say in the watch world, "don't buy the watch, buy the seller".
