As a female who hasn't had much water today, as soon as you said "she doesn't drink enough water" I felt very called out and immediately drank half my water bottle. Glad Aki's doing better now, and is staying hydrated!
did the same thing too! knowing how my boyfriend gets a panic attack over anything bad that happens to me, im just gonna drink 4 times more water for the sake of his sanity too
I read this literally as he started saying it 😂 Been feeling slightly sick and shitty for over a week, just started drinking a lot more water yesterday and INSTANTLY started feeling better. Hold on let me go grab another bottle 🚰🏃🏽♀️💨
My acquaintance had a coworker who passed away because of her irregular habit for eating and hydrating so yeah, make sure you eat and hydrate yourself enough and do it regularly.
Friendly reminder that this is also why you shouldn't neglect or ignore teeth problems. If you have a cavity or a broken tooth, and its causing you a lot of pain, get it checked out. It rarely happens but even tooth infections can also lead to sepsis.
They absolutely can and it's what makes it even more ridiculous that in the U.S. dental care isn't included in regular health insurance. Plus so many people here (I'm in the U.S.) can't afford dental care.
I’m glad Aki is doing better and thankful it never developed into Sepsis. I’m recovering from Sepsis and Septic shock myself, and guys Joey isn’t lying it’s something that you definitely don’t want. Only took a week of flu like symptoms for me to be hospitalised, and less than 24hrs before I put myself into a coma. Ended up with multi organ failure, the doctors giving me a 30% chance to live. I’m forever grateful and fortunate to be here today. Been hospitalised since July 21st 2021 aged 23, I’m still recovering in a care home and awaiting surgery to amputate my feet, because of my body shutting down causing nerve damage. 2 years 5 months and still going strong. Please everyone if you feel like there’s something wrong, even if it’s something small, check if there’s a flu spike in your area, if there’s any bugs that are being spread and check with your family if there’s any hereditary problems. There isn’t much research in Sepsis so please be careful everyone 💚
I can't even imagine how difficult that experience was, and still is for you. I'm wishing you the strength to get through this and thank you for sharing your story.
Recovered last year from septic pneumonia. Had to be in the ICU for a bit. It was the most traumatic experience of my life. I didn’t think I’d live to see my next birthday. I’m a lot better now, but it took 2 months to feel like myself again. I had to have emergency surgery twice. Sepsis is no fucking joke. It’s really scary. I’m glad you’re recovering well! Live long and stay hydrated!
Holy shit, your story is so shocking to read but im happy things worked out for you even if you have to get some extra surgery. I just imagine that 30% was very low and that you are lucky.. best wishes to u and hoping ur surgery and recovery goes well
This along with the “Go Piss, Girl” and a cup of water per getting up habit makes me very very aware on how much got ingrained in me. I’m glad she feels better and for real, everyone, go piss and replace what you piss out!!
I surprised it’s happening to a woman in Japan because I’ve always found their public toilets are very good. But I have heard of it happening I places where women don’t want to be “caught short” while out in public because the women’s toilets are no-existent (ie use the guys’s toilets) or really unsafe or disgusting. So women don’t take the risk by drinking a lot of water :-(
Joey, this is crazy, my mum had the EXACT thing this week, but had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics and had to be hospitalised. I was terrified. She’s okay now, and I’m glad Aki is okay! ♥️♥️
That was actually what I thought he was going to say when he got to the part with the fever. I was assuming the GI issues right before that were from the antibiotics.
@@animefreakjex antibiotics quite commonly cause GI issues, as a side effect, and sometimes as a complication, by affecting your digestive flora. It's actually commonly recommended that a probiotic is taken with an antibiotic to mitigate this.
I don't know why this is the case, but sepsis seems to be coming up a lot suddenly. My mom died from it (among other afflictions) a week ago. Then yesterday sepsis was a topic in the news. Now Joey and you also mention it. Give your mom/loved ones some extra love. In the name of those that weren't as fortunate
I'm glad Aki is improving. During winter 2021 I had laryngitis, a broken rib, a kidney infection and then Covid all in a row. I understand her pain right now. She's lucky to have such a lovely partner to help.
As a medical doctor, what you said is accurate and communicated well. The reason drinking water prevents UTIs and kidney infections comes from the idea that the regular flow of urine helps flush out bacteria that comes externally and ascends up the urinary tract.
I just watched Aki's video , I'm so glad she's ok now. I get kidney infections out of no where just like that. So I know she went through literal hell.
I’ve never known anyone with kidney issues and so far this week I’ve heard of quite a few! I’m so glad she’s ok! It’s scary because all the symptoms are similar to like flu etc and it can go unknown. So glad you both were so quick to react and realize it 🥺💜 glad she’s recovering well 🥺
Sepsis is one of the scariest things I've ever experienced in my life. After my 2nd neck surgery on my C2/C3, I ended up with a bad infection that turned into sepsis and almost killed me. I'm so so SO damn glad Aki is okay, and I hope you guys never have to experience that again brother. Love yall.
IM GLAD YOU'RE OKAY!!!!! Dude, C2 and C3 injuries are no fucking joke. You could have been dead if they messed your body up. I dont know what disease or disorder youvr had, but in glad youre okay.
@@Myrdrrr Thank you so much! I had a benign Giant Cell tumor wrap around and grow into my spine at my C2/C3. It essentially crushed my spine but because the tumor was grown into it, the spine actually held together pretty well. It took a combination of 8 surgerys at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas to put me back together but I'm alive and no nerve damage. Dr. Fry at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana, Texas came in after seeing my initial X-Ray and simply said "you should be dead right now". Which at at 19 is exactly what you wanna hear lmao.
My sister has put me through sepsis and only told me about the “secret” years after it happened. I still struggle with health due to that. I'm glad you're okay and do feel you.
Wow, this cosmic timing is insane. This past week I just developed my first kidney stone, so I'm very much in the same boat of hydrating a LOT more than I used to and having to be more mindful of how I treat my body. I really feel for Aki, because even though I was hospitalized for a week when I got diagnosed with UC a few years ago, this kidney stone is the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. Scary stuff, glad she's on the mend and thanks for spreading awareness!
To the women who read these comments, advice from someone who has had chronic bladder infections. 1. Stay hydrated. Drink AT LEAST 1.5litres a day. But more is definitely better. 2. Do not hold in your pee!!! 3. Make sure you pee it all out when you do so. If not it will go all the way back to the urinary tract. 4. Do not wash the inside of your vag with soap! It does that for you already! Only use water!! 5. If you feel like you do everything right but still get UTI's often, you should get it checked out by your doctor. You may have a narrowing of the urethra. It is not the most fun procedure but better than getting your bladder and kidneys messed up. 6. UTIS also is hereditary! If it's a common problen in your family than thats why you also have it often. Which is what caused my chronic UTI's. 7. Pee right after intercourse! It washes away all bacteria! I hope Aki will be okay!
Your urinary tract is different from your v*gina.(there are different holes) So I am not sure about the last one. I aleays though that advice was so you don't pee yourself by accident since squirting and peeing have a similar feel.
Sepsis is one of the scariest things I could imagine- my aunt died in her early 40s from it, hope Aki is getting all the relaxation she deserves after getting this scare!
Glad that Aki's okay now. Hope you both take care of yourself. And ooof. Kidney Infections are horrible. Anything with pain in the Kidneys is *awful* (like Kidney Stones) Poor Aki :/ EDIT: And yes, Sepsis is super, super dangerous. So, SO glad she's okay.
Good call on having her admitted. She 100% needed IV antibiotics and fluids. And as you can see the kidneys are very sensitive. I’m glad she’s recovered!! icu nurse here UTI sepsis is very common in women of all ages and can get pretty bad really quick
I'm glad that Aki is okay! Yeah no dehydration and lack of water is scary. In my experience, when I was 14 I went to class late, my vision (not exaggerating) was like TV static. There were actual dark spots in my vision and I couldn't focus. Eventually I asked to go to the nurse's office. When walking down the hallway to the stairs, I would black out but somehow be moving still. I genuinely have no clue how I made it down the horrid middle school staircase nor to the office. Later I'd go to the doctor and find out the reason. Drink water! It's more important than you think.
It's called "acute pyelonephritis", basically Upper UTI. It is indeed more common for women to have UTI. Holding you urine in too often for example can give you UTI. BTW: "AKI" is usually abbreviated from Acute kidney injury not acute kidney infection. Not drinking enough will give you acute kidney injury(Prerenal)
Kidneys are no joke. People can live without one, but Id rather keep both. I know there are people who would donate them for noney or for someone, but for some personal reasons I managed to convince some of my family to keep them and to take care. If you can donate them cool, but also take care of yourself first and foremost.
I have lupus, which has kidney involvement. Kidney infections are absolutely painful and horrible. I’m sorry she had to go through that. 😢 I’m absolutely terrified of developing sepsis on top of my other medical issues. I’m really glad she pulled through.
I'm so glad that Aki is okay and that you are recovering too. You did a great job of explaining everything, Joey; I'm saying this as a nurse :) UTIs and AKIs (acute kidney infection/injury, depending on the mechanism of illness) are very serious and can be deadly. If you're not hydrated, your body's natural bacteria can attack back because your body will be making less urine, which leaves your private area "unrinsed." Your urine is sterile, wo not only are you removing waste when you pee, you are cleaning everything out, including bacteria that could be going up your urethra and into your urinary tract. If your kidneys are working too hard, such as they are when one is dehydrated, your body could be filtering out more nitrogen than normal (this lab level is called BUN = blood urea nitrogen; normal is 10 - 20 mg per dL), we call this Acute Kidney Injury. This can also happen if you fall and suffer muscle damage, a high stress situation, physical trauma, and more. Your kidneys control your blood pressure and circulation; you need to protect and support your kidneys! Advice: DRINK WATER Your urine is meant to be yellow and clear, and it should never be painful to pee. Yellow means you are getting the normal levels of BUN, sodium, and other unneeded material out of the body. Watery clear might mean you are just urinating out extra water that you don't need - drink electrolyte drinks like Gatorade or Pedialyte instead of water. Amber or dark urine means you have too much extra material being taken out, so it's best to drink water at this time. As your urine gets lighter, switch to Gatorade/Pedialyte to not get too low. ** Please drink Gatorade/anything aside from water, black coffee, or unsweetened tea when doing an activity where you sweat a lot or are in hot weather. You can be losing your electrolytes in your sweat and drinking water only waters the levels down more. This can lead to a loss of consciousness, low blood pressure, excessive urination, and nausea. You need proper levels of electrolytes to live and function normally. Without sodium/potassium, you can have seizures, muscle spasms, and paralysis. Abnormal potassium levels can lead to heart rhythm changes, which can be deadly. Magnesium and calcium also assist with your heart pumping normally. SEX ED: This is why we all need to urinate after sex; it greatly reduces the risk of UTIs by clearing out everything in the urethra. Remember, this can happen to everyone, so you need to make sure to do this AFTER having sex/masturbating. Also, ladies and those with similar anatomy, wipe front to back, or wipe the front and then the back. This helps to avoid getting bacteria from your feces anywhere near your urethra. If you use more paper, it's okay; your body will thank you for the effort you put into taking care of it.
I am very happy to hear Aki is okay. I will say, drink enough water, but don't overdo it. I had a period in my life where drinking water became a tick due to heavy stress. I drank around 5 to 6 litres a day. That is unhealthy too, because it can poison your body. My doctor was surprised that I was still up and about when I told her about it.
Glad to hear she is doing better now. Yes, UTI is very common in females and despite all the precautions I took, I used to get it at least 2-3 times /year. I've had kidney infection from that as well. For any ladies who might be reading this, the one thing that has helped me is D-mannose, which makes the bacteria less "sticky" and get flushed out much easier 😊
I used to have UTI every winter. In my case it was wasabi what saved me. I hate wasabi but the UTI was so bad that I ate as much as possible because it's a "natural antibiotics" like a garlic. It was several years ago, I've got no UTI since. :)
I live in Europe and got prescribed anti-UTI vaxination. You take one pill every day for 3 months and then you're supposed to enjoy a UTI-free life for years. So far it's working, I highly advise anyone struggling with recurring UTIs to ask their urologist about this option, it made wonders for my issues
As annoying as it is, I am a woman and I don't drink enough water and I know so many of my girlfriends don't either. When you said Aki had a kidney infection the first thing I thought was "did she drink enough water?" lol but also as she war poorly before that, its had to remember to stay hydrated when you have a cold or flu. Glad that she is doing better though, and if she doesn't like water, maybe squeeze in cup of tea...now the weather is getting cold. 😊
As someone who’s had sepsis before from an untreated kidney infection, I can imagine how horrible she felt for those few days. Glad she is out of the hospital and back to feeling 100%!
I'm so relieved that Aki's okay. I've had a lot of UTIs and kidney infections due to a health condition and on top of being dangerous, they're miserable to go through. It's extremely painful, you're constantly tired, and it feels like there's not enough antibiotics and cranberry juice (It can help with UTIs and kidney issues) in the world for a few days. It's scary to think that it was bad enough that she had to go to the hospital for it, but I'm happy she's home safe and sound. Aki's a sweet person and wish she hadn't had to go through that.
"2 liters is a lot of water." she says. "Coming from me, a female who has had a UTI and probably should, while drinking more water now than before the UTI, drink more water" she also says.😂😂 Glad she is okay. Like super glad, could've been super bad
I'm so glad Aki is alright! It was really scary what happened and what a miracle it didn't develop into something worse! It's very much a lesson in the importance of drinking more water, and it's definitely reminded me of that very much!
I’m glad they caught the Kidney infection. I got a kidney infection and was turned away from several doctors who told me I had anxiety and needed a mental health plan. I ended up in emergency going into kidney failure. Love being a woman when your health goes to shit.
I’m so glad she’s doing better after such a scare and I’m also really glad she had such a great partner to help her through that and had her best in mind.
Hey Joey! I’m so glad to hear Aki is doing a lot better and that she is keeping up with her water intake! My story doesn’t initially have a happy ending, but we’ll get there…I was in college and H1N1 was running rampant around campus-I caught it and was sick for 4 weeks. I went to the student clinic that just so happened to be located at the hospital across from campus. The Doctor there prescribed Ibuprofen and rest for a week. I also had a UTI. A week passes by and the body aches increase. I go home for the weekend and my parents say “I just don’t look good”. My Dad drives me back to SF ( I went to University of San Francisco) and on the way he says “let’s stop by the clinic just in case” we go, I see the same doctor and he notices my eyes are yellowish and recommends going to the E.R. Downstairs…We go and I pass out going through security. I wake up in a room with 4 Doctors and a bunch of nurses. Diagnosis: I have 26% bacteria in my blood, I’m Septic, and my Kidneys and Liver are failing-I was 21. Long story shorter, I get admitted, rushed to the OR, Dialysis catheters are placed and I begin Dialysis 15 hours later. My liver recovers, but my Kidneys are shot. I need a Transplant. My Mom ends up being a match after 8 MONTHS of testing and the transplant is Successful 🎉 Until…2 years later my Mom’s kidney fails ( I’m still in college btw) I have to go back on dialysis for 3.5 years (and 1 Brain tumor later until I receive the call that I have a match!🎉🎉🎉 Second Transplant on March 24th 2015 and here I am Alive and Pretty Great almost 9 years later 😊 Please, Tell Aki I am SO HAPPY SHE IS WELL and to drink water always❤❤❤❤ I love both of your channels, you both have helped me through my dialysis sessions with your awesome content! Sending love from California, Kei💖
I'm glad that Aki's ok. Not drinking enough water isn't just a female thing. The ppl I know who had kidney stones were all men. Take care of yourselves, peeps!
My dad had sepsis earlier this year due to a kidney infection (he's in his 70s) and he was having a lot of memory issues with it. It was terrifying and I hated visiting him because he couldn't even remember who I was, he kept referring to me as one of his half sisters... Luckily we have like zero history of dementia or Alzheimer's in my family, so I hopefully don't have to experience that again, but to be completely honest, it scared the shit out of me and has fucked with me ever since. I can't even imagine how it made my mother feel since he kept flipping back and forth between recognizing her and not. Sepsis is absolutely no joke and I'm glad you both decided that a hospital visit was the best option.
That's so interesting. I got a similar thing just a couple of months back after a trip, huge infection in the throat with super high fever, then a muscle pain in the lower abdomen that wouldn't go away I went to the hospital and they found an infection in my urine. After antibiotics I was fine, I gotta do another check soon to make sure. Best wishes to Aki and you! Being sick is not fun at all
As someone who had kidney infection which sadly turn into worst illness I hope that you and Aki are okay. I hope that Aki be safe and healthy. Will be praying for the best.
I'm glad Aki's doing well. My Nan passed away last year from Sepsis, she was hospitalised but didn't respond to the medication and they couldn't find the source. It was heartbreaking to see her in so much pain.
The dual post on your guys channel is actually pretty wholesome for these negative events. One of my favorite UA-cam couples, I hope you guys get well from these events.
It's always good to see people learning from hardships. I feel the only purpose hardships and suffering serve in our material existence is to teach us something positive. More power to you, Joey and Aki!
It's awesome to know you two are so supportive of each other. I'm very glad all is well with Aki and that she is continuing to get healthier every day.
I’m glad she’s doing better and she got the care when she did! My mother developed sepsis as a result of cancer complications and we caught it at home. As soon as they notice bacteria in the blood stream it’s go-time so it sounds like y’all had the perfect chance. Wishing her well and will definitely check out her video. Wishing both of you good health and better days
I was hospitalized years back with SLE at 6 years old, from this day I've had all kinds of problems and sepsis is one of them and it was really scary, high fever and had hallucinations and almost don't remember much but just enough. Today I'm fine and all but I can relate being hospitalized for a long period of time fking sucks, even spent a few xmas and new years in the hospital and thank goodness for the nurse staff for being cheery and making our time there at least somewhat fun. My heart goes out to the nurses and doctors for saving lives, you are remembered for ever. I'm glad that Aki recovered and got good taken care of
Just came here after watching Aki’s video. I’m so glad she’s feeling better. Your “drink water” message resonates with me. I realized that I don’t drink nearly enough water. I’ve had coffee, Mountain Dew, and Dr. Pepper only today. That’s not water. 😐
I have been watching you guys for YEARS! I never comment lol. But I am in nursing school and as soon as you said Acute Kidney Infection I was so happy that you guys caught it so early!!! It is no joke. I am a PCT in the hospital while I am in school and I can't tell you how many times people wait too long and it doesn't end well or it is a fight for their life. Good job Joey for getting your girl to the hospital and not just waiting for it to go away. It doesn't just go away.... you die! Love you guys big! So glad she is okay!
As an individual constantly working in the medical field, it is a relief that there are still PSAs around to educate the community. There is so much to learn when I am continuously learning different conditions. Thanks, Joey, for doing your part to help society with this knowledge. Also, I am so grateful that Aki is okay and that she is taking countermeasures to ensure her health is in good condition.
I've had both things happen to me on different occasions. I got kidney stones back in college and, at the time, I hated drinking water with a burning fiery passion. I learned to enjoy water after I started going to the gym. The UTI happened years later, I was taking a medication for some severe back pains I was experiencing, but for some reason it numbed my bladder, hence I didn't know I was holding my pee until I was about to burst. The infection got so bad that I was taken to the hospital and I was going in and out of consciousness on the stretcher; it took a week in the hospital and then some therapy at home until I flushed everything out. Needles to say that now I don't drink anything other than water and I try not to hold my pee unless it's strictly necessary😅
So glad that Aki is doing much better. I had this exact issue when I was in my late teens, uti that became an acute kidney infection but add to that impacted bowels. 😢 I had a fever of 103 and horrible shaking and chills, couldn't keep food and fluids down so went to the emergency clinic and sure enough, "AKI". They gave me a shot of penicillin and basically watched me for an hour or so to see if my fever would come down, or else I'd have to go to the ER. Thankfully it didn't escalate to hospitalization and I was sent home with antibiotics, but really the importance of DRINKING WATERRRR, not holding your pee, and also enough fiber in your diet can't be understated!
We’re glad Aki is doing okay. Well done for being strong during a tough time. I showed my daughter your video and told to drink plenty and keep the SEPSIS away. We send our fan-love and blessings to you both. Kind regards, Chris
aah yes UTIs are very common amongst us girlies 😔 as someone who is studying womens health, i recommend: drink enough water, always pee after sex, and remember to wipe front to back after going to the toilet so you dont get nasty bacteria near the urinary tract. Stay healthy ppl!
oh my gosh joey i saw a tik tok of you in an interview, i re-found your channel on youtube. i watched your videos when i was 12 for years (i turn 18 in 6 months) i love you and aki so much you both shaped my childhood in ways i can’t thank you enough for both of you guys created spaces where i felt comfortable and happy!
From a critical care nurse to one Dr Jelly - you explained acute kidney infection ( or AKI, for short 😅 ) and sepsis and the medical side of things in a very community friendly way, without the medical jargon most of us tend to slip into. Well done, and thank you for doing research before posting any information about medical diagnoses and HOW antibiotics work 😊🎉 WTG Joey!
After watching Aki's video too I'm so happy she's okay. I want to say you both were so cute and loving to each other during this whole time. I was around since 2015 watching you and Aki. I want to know when you'll propose to her. Come on. I know you know that we all are waiting on this.
So sorry to hear that Aki's had to go to the hospital. I'm so glad she's recovering, it sounds like it was a really, really rough time. As an Elder Millennial getting long in the tooth, I am starting to see some scary health things popping up in my peer group. Health is so, so, important. UTIs and their related ills scare the crap out of me and I do take supplements to try to ward them off. I am not a healthcare professional so I can't make recommendations except to say to chat with your doctor about this stuff.
Yo Joey, hope everything gets better, it 100% will. My uncle died of Sepsis 2 days ago from today, and it was hard to deal with, but it didn’t help since he didn’t have the best medicine. Thank goodness Aki is doing better now, and absolute warrior.
Hey Joey, I am really happy you made a video about this because I can relate to Aki's experience SO HARD right now. I am very prone to getting UTIs and used to get them once or twice a year, but have had three in the past six months. They are horrible, and I had a very adverse reaction to one of the antibiotics I was given. Not staying well hydrated enough is what I believe was my problem as well. I have reminders on my phone and connected to my watch to remind myself to drink water, and that's been really helpful. I saw a urologist recently as well and she gave me some other good preventative techniques. It might be worth talking to a urologist if she's prone to getting them even after staying well hydrated because there are more aggressive preventative measures you can take. So far, staying well hydrated has been working for me. :) Glad Aki is feeling better, and really glad you are bringing visibility to the topic.
I, as a female, was also hospitalized because of this very same reason. I didn't have all the symptoms that Aki had, but I did have a very strong pain in my side, so my mom brought me to the ER. I was stuck to an IV in the hospital for 2 days. We thankfully caught it before any bacteria entered my blood, but my kidney was VERY infected, and I had a strange tingling feeling in my kidney at one point while I was on the IV, now that I think about it. PLEASE DRINK WATER! KEEP YOURSELVES HYDRATED, IT'S LEGITIMATELY VERY IMPORTANT! Thank you for reading.
I've had acute kidney infection. Not something anyone wants to have, trust me. Usually accompanied by Peritonitis, so every little vibration causes a ton of pain in your stomach area. Then the 39-40°c fever you get anytime you eat something due your kidneys sifting the waste from your blood. Was down 3 weeks with antibiotics for that. Sure as hell don't need something like that ever again. Glad Aki's alright and back on her feet.
I've had to go to the hospital for treatment of an organ infection (IV antibiotics) and I understand how scary/stressful it can be. It speaks highly of the healthcare in Japan, and your decision making when given the option, that you were able to be admitted into the ER almost right away. To anyone else reading this, don't underestimate the warning signs your body is giving you and insist that you don't need to go to the doctor/hospital when you do. It's no weakness.
Bro I am sending all of my best wishes to you and AKI ... getting hospitalized is just a horrible experience in general and I wish both of you get back in your happy healthy zone ... I contracted jaundice twice in my life and was bedridden for almost a year both times .. and that is no fun ... one thing I found out about the second time is that I was not drinking enough water and maybe was also exposed to infected water at some restaurant that damaged my liver .. stay hydrated especially in winter season even if you don't get thirsty ... easiest way is to get a nice water bottle that is easy to clean and you can put all sorts of stuff in it to make it tasty and your body will be thankful ... Also this all happened cause she got that dank that stank so make sure you keep it clean and dry ladies please
Hi Joey, so I am very much taking this as a heads up lol. I’m glad Aki’s okay. I am someone who has a lot of medical issues related to my bladder. I have been pretty good about drinking water recently, but I hold my bladder way too much. I will be making a note to myself to get checked out asap. I don’t have any symptoms that I know of, but I definitely think I’m far passed the concern line. Thank you both for spreading awareness.
I just came from Aki’s video. Glad she’s doing better and they found the problem ❤ My friend survived septic shock. In his case, it turned into a really bad psychotic break (super rare reaction but it does happen). Thankfully he was already hospitalized when they found it. He’s doing much better now
Not a UTI, but I did had Cellulitis on my leg this summer. I fell down some stairs in June and sprain both my ankles. My left leg was really swelling and the swelling kept getting bigger and warmer. I went to the ER and they gave me antibiotics. A few days later it got worse so I went into the hospital for three days until the swelling went down and it’s not warm or red anymore. It was scary. I was miserable. But everything turned out okay. I hope you and Aki are doing okay after all of this.
Thanks for sharing this with us, I've always been lazy when it comes to drinking water and never got the motivation to start drinking more water. After watching your video, I finally got that motivation !
I'm so sorry Aki had to go through that. I am somebody that gets a lot of Urinary Tract Infection (especially after intercourse) and always have to end up taking antibiotics. The first time I got it, it was so bad that the infection travelled up to my kidneys. And when I tell you I was in the worse pain of my life, I mean it. I had no idea what was going on. All I can do was thrash around in pain and cry. I placed heating pads on my lower back (where it was hurting) and it alleviated some of the pain but not a lot. I didn't want to go to a hospital (because you know how insane hospital bills are here in the USA) so I ended up pulling through until the next morning when I saw my physician. Of course I was just given antibiotics and sent home. I ended up getting better ,but it's so sad that now I have regularly been to the doctor's office for multiple UTI's since. It's just chronic at this point and my doctor is concerned about antibiotic resistance. It doesn't help that my immune system is shit and I also get a lot of laryngitis and strep (weird cause the few times I've gotten strep I wasn't kissing anybody or anything like that). And what's ironic is that I drink A LOT of water. Like I am a plant at this point. At one point I was even concerned I was diabetic because of how much water I consume lol. But no 'm not diabetic, I'm just an extremely thirsty human being. What I want you to take from this is- UTI's are very easy to catch for anyone with a female reproductive system so just take precaution and make sure both of you clean up before and after intercourse to reduce any possible UTI's from festering in the future. But I'm so glad Aki is ok in the end. Love you guys! Keep being yourselves. : )
I'm praying for both you and Aki I hope she has steady and safe recovery and also I hope you are staying sane and healthy as well man you are the anime man and she is Aki The GOATED Girlfriend🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I will send you two some prayers. It must have been terrifying to have to take your girlfriend to the hospital. I was nauseated just hearing about it. Honestly, NOBODY drinks enough water. We all need to hydrate throughout the day, preferably with more H2O than sugary drinks. I haul a water bottle around everywhere and this video made me grab the nearest beverage and start chugging.
Sepsis is extremely deadly. My father died from it. It’s terrible. Thank goodness Aki is alright now.
Can only agree. My grandma died from it too and that mostly to the fact that it was noticed way to late. x.x
Ngl, read that first as Stepsis.
@@Botan_Katounot the time dude
@@sebastianherrera6514while i do agree, i cant say i didnt read "stepsis" for a couple of times before actually read the actual word 🏃💨
Yeah as soon as I heard joey say sepsis I was like....whoah... That's not good stuff... I'm so glad she is okay..
As a female who hasn't had much water today, as soon as you said "she doesn't drink enough water" I felt very called out and immediately drank half my water bottle. Glad Aki's doing better now, and is staying hydrated!
Hydrate before you die-drate!
did the same thing too! knowing how my boyfriend gets a panic attack over anything bad that happens to me, im just gonna drink 4 times more water for the sake of his sanity too
I read this literally as he started saying it 😂
Been feeling slightly sick and shitty for over a week, just started drinking a lot more water yesterday and INSTANTLY started feeling better.
Hold on let me go grab another bottle 🚰🏃🏽♀️💨
My acquaintance had a coworker who passed away because of her irregular habit for eating and hydrating so yeah, make sure you eat and hydrate yourself enough and do it regularly.
I am also totally that female. Im better than I used to be, but compared to my -goldfish- boyfriend, im practically a cactus...
My dad borderline died from sepsis. Thanks for the PSA.
Also thumbs up if you just drank a bunch of water thanks to this video.
what is the meaning of “PSA”? よくわからない...

Tooth infections and gum issues can also lead to heart issues
My grandma had an allergic reaction to antibiotics and her kidney function went down. Didn't know it could cause GI.
Thankfully no hospital trip but speaking of allergic reactions to antibiotics…my sister too! She got rashes and swelling!
I'm glad Aki is improving. During winter 2021 I had laryngitis, a broken rib, a kidney infection and then Covid all in a row. I understand her pain right now. She's lucky to have such a lovely partner to help.
Jesus Christ dude. Congrats on surviving all that.
@@naraku971 thanks! Was at uni and away from family plus all the COVID shit. Wasn't the best Christmas
Hopefully that's your life getting all your bad luck out at once, damn. Glad you got through that yo!
good lord my dude, I hope you didnt use up an entire lifetimes worth of luck surviving that! Your body is an absolute tank!
We wish the best for you and Aki!
I hope Aki will be okay!
this is so helpful! I had a UTI awhile back due to a yeast infection and it was scary.
My mom, a retired RN who gets UTIs really frequently, also always told me you should also pee after oral, not just PIV!
@@DizzehxxMitizzeh42Good tip as well!!
Oh great advice, especially number seven. OMG because you just added a bunch of new bacteria down there. 😂
Anything with pain in the Kidneys is *awful* (like Kidney Stones) Poor Aki :/
EDIT: And yes, Sepsis is super, super dangerous. So, SO glad she's okay.
Joey, thank you for taking care of Aki. I’m so glad she recovered.
Good call on having her admitted. She 100% needed IV antibiotics and fluids. And as you can see the kidneys are very sensitive. I’m glad she’s recovered!! icu nurse here UTI sepsis is very common in women of all ages and can get pretty bad really quick
Damn, what a run of bad luck she had. I'm glad she's doing alright now!
Sorry to hear Aki was unwell, glad that she is okay and wishing you both lots of rest! 🙏🥹❤️
So glad she’s ok. When the internal organs are in trouble all the alarms go off. It’s scary
Sending best wishes to Aki, so glad she's okay now. And thank you for such a clear and mature discussion of her acute kidney infection. ❤
It's a cruel joke that Aki got AKI
You did a great job of explaining everything, Joey; I'm saying this as a nurse :)
UTIs and AKIs (acute kidney infection/injury, depending on the mechanism of illness) are very serious and can be deadly.
Advice:
DRINK WATER
Your urine is meant to be yellow and clear, and it should never be painful to pee.
SEX ED:
This is why we all need to urinate after sex; it greatly reduces the risk of UTIs by clearing out everything in the urethra.
Hope Aki gets well as soon as possible! Keep on inspiring Joey!
"Coming from me, a female who has had a UTI and probably should, while drinking more water now than before the UTI, drink more water" she also says.😂😂
Glad she is okay.
I'm sorry that you had to go through this. I am glad that everything went well in the end. Take care both of you. All the best :)
I’m so glad she’s doing better after such a scare and I’m also really glad she had such a great partner to help her through that and had her best in mind.
I heard about what happened to Aki but it’s great that she’s out and I still wish the best for her
My Dad drives me back to SF ( I went to University of San Francisco) and on the way he says
“let’s stop by the clinic just in case” we go, I see the same doctor and he notices my eyes are yellowish and recommends going to the E.R.
Being sick is not fun at all
Same after taking a 5 course day of Antibiotics I was fine. I had an UTI based on the urine test, had a fever and lower back pain
Aki is a badass. I'm so glad she's doing well
I'm so glad she's doing better! I've had a kidney infection before as well, and I know how much it sucks balls!
Sending so much love to her
As someone who had kidney infection which sadly turn into worst illness I hope that you and Aki are okay. I hope that Aki be safe and healthy. Will be praying for the best.
I saw the tweet and a notification about Aki’s video talking about this as well, I hope she gets a speedy recovery, wish you guys the best!
Shoutout to the hydro-homies!
Remember, whenever you take a sip, remind your partner to do the same!
I'm glad that Aki recovered and got good taken care of
So heartwarming to hear she got treatment right in time and now is doing better.
Stay healthy and happy
Just came here after watching Aki’s video. I’m so glad she’s feeling better.
Your “drink water” message resonates with me. I realized that I don’t drink nearly enough water. I’ve had coffee, Mountain Dew, and Dr. Pepper only today. That’s not water. 😐
Thank you for supporting her so well, you're a terrific guy!
2 liters is a little over half a gallon. 1 gallon = 3.78 liters. Hail Hydrate.
We all wish you and Aki the best and I hope that you both take as much time as you need to rest. WE ALL LOVE YOU❤❤
My Mom died of Sepsis . I am so sorry to hear that Aki went through this. I am glad to hear that she is feeling better.
Joey explaining all this is more frightening than any horror movie.
Oh boy. Good job on taking her into the hospital. I've had sepsis for the same reason once and it was awful. Take care!
Didn't have sepsis, but developed kidney stones, which was really, really not fun. Now I am militant about drinking water. Glad Aki is ok!
Glad Aki is doing better. Bless her. Must have been scary.. bet she is glad to be home!
Thank goodness she’s doing better! I love you guys. Drink water everyone please! Remind your girlfriends and ladies friends
Lookin at the title only, you guys r something else brah.
Holy shit this sounds horrible I hope you guys get through this and aki gets better soon
Much love to you and Aki. Glad she is home now. ❤
I went to drink water thanks to your message. Always a good reminder. Stay healthy and hydrated everyone, glad to hear Aki is better!
I hope Aki's doing okay! And you as well! Hope she recovers soon!
I didn't know, but good to know she's doing better. Get well wishes for her :D
Joey almost went through his tragic anime backstory arc, I'm glad everything is okay and praying Aki and you don't have to go through this again
Good to hear that all ended well. Be safe, stay hydrated👍
I just came from Aki’s video. Glad she’s doing better and they found the problem ❤
My friend survived septic shock.
You are such a caring boyfriend to Aki! Speedy full recovery to her.
Thanks for sharing this with us, I've always been lazy when it comes to drinking water and never got the motivation to start drinking more water. After watching your video, I finally got that motivation !
glad she is better. Wish you 2 nothing but the best
I literally just got a notification of your girlfriend having to be in the hospital, all I can say is wish you all the best, stay strong Joey!
Oh my cow! Poor Aki! I hope she recovers quickly, sending you all the good vibes I can!
All of us are praying for Aki's recovery. Hope to see her back with her usually great videos!
