    IMHO the glass ball effect is so beautiful because if you use a great picture to begin with, the effect is gorgeous. Your tool tips and suggestions are consistently creative and useful. Instant replay.

    Brilliant, damn I get a headache just thinking about how you figure out all of this. I can follow the tutorial but never would have thought of half the steps. Well done.

    I combined a globe and a parallelogram in the same picture. For a beginner, I may say, it is quite ok. Thx.

    Great tutorial, Thanks.
    BUT if looking at a real crystal ball... there's a freaking and curious detail:
    Image refraction in a crystal ball is inverted: Upside-down, Left-right.
    So, if wanting to be realistic (for real), you'd have to rotate 180º the background or the ball at the end of the process.
    Nice! isn't it?

    Hello Olivio, I am new to this channel and although I have Affinity Photo on my iPad, I have done very little with it as I have been daunted by the complexity of it. I would love to get familiar with it and thought your videos looked very impressive and prolific. However I am confused as to how to start learning the app. Would you be able to recommend me to some of your most simple demonstrations as a starting point. I would be grateful for any advise. This crystal ball effect is beautiful. Vielen Dank

    Great tutorial! Tried it a couple times with great success. I did have an issue setting the radius of the Distortion effect. I had to type in a value to get it anywhere near the corners of the square layer. Is there a setting to allow the slider to go higher?

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 років тому

      That's great to read, Franc. Really happy it worked for you :) You can enter the value as numbers with your keypad. should make it the right size. Tell me if it works

    What can I say Olivio, great video/tutorial as usual. Can you please tell me how do you save the finished image once you are satisfied with the result, or does it stay in layers and you choose it if you want to print it (or share it). BTW, I’m still trying to decide between Affinity Photo and Luminar.
    Thank you.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 років тому +2

      Thank you, Enrique. Since most of my files are for projects, like this video, i always safe the file with all the layers, so i can always go back to make changes. But if i need it for any other use, like my youtube cover, print and such, i export it to the format that makes most sense. mostly that is JPG, but PNG may be great too for example if it has transparent areas that need to stay transparent.

    Bonjour. Very interesting but I think the image in the ball should be upside down. Am I wrong?

    • @Knockadooner
      @Knockadooner 5 років тому

      Yes it should. Most pictures I've seen have the image within the ball in the correct orientation and everything else is inverted.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 років тому +2

      technically yes, aesthetically no. most people with "real balls" (no pun intended, or is it...) turn it around in post :)

    Very nice!
    Though the image within the ball should be upside down.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 років тому +1

      Technically yes, but many people rotate the ball even in photos where they us a actual crystal ball, to make it look more interesting. so i went for that look. but you can simply rotate it if want to.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 років тому +3

      In a photo with an actual crystal ball, simply select the area of the ball and rotate it 180 degrees. If the selection is a bit hard to do, you can use a ellipse shape as a help and then create selection from that by CTRL + Click on the layer of the ellipse shape :)

    Hi Olivio
    I have just tried to follow this tutorial but cannot get the distortion right. I notice that when I open the original file it is being renamed background and automatically converted to a pixel layer and yours isn't .Is this the problem and how do I stop it.
    Many thanks

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 роки тому

      Hi DJ, when you open a pixel file, like a jpg image, the image is always the background and named as such in the layer. However it is also always locked - click on the little lock icon right side of the layer to unlock it :)

    How do you actually KNOW all these steps. Nice video btw. Thanks.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 років тому +2

      Hi Mike, there are several ways. A very important source is to learn from others, see what ideas they have, how they do it, where you can improve it. Then there is experimentation and reading about things. Not only in the way the software works but also by looking at other software and trying to replicate the things you see or read. For the videos i mostly think of something i want to do, then create it in a test run for the video and then record it while doing it again. that is also why often in my videos the version i show at the start is a bit better, because i had more time to do all the steps, compared to the less than 15 minutes i get while recording. ;)

    Can we achieve the same results using affinity photos ipad version?

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 років тому

      Hi, Pankaj Vashsith, I think that should be possible. I don't have a iPad, but some of my students did their versions on an iPad, so it should work.
