This is the best approach I've seen. Clearly and simply explained. I followed along with one of my images and the result was excellent. Many thanks David.
the video made 3 years ago, very nice indeed, BUT - is there any changes been made in the software itself? - I got stuck in 04:55 following every step, but my brush doesn't colour as on video. Please help
No this should still be easy to follow in AP Version 2. Make sure you have the default colours and select Black as your foreground colour. Click on the Mask and as you paint you'll reveal the colours below. Hope this helps David sorry for the late reply.
Hello, hoping you can help. Love this tutorial and I’ve followed it exactly. But when i get to painting the mask layer with the chalky effect, its only showing black and not bringing the original colours back through, I’ve retried several times to make sure I haven’t missed anything. But happening every time
Hi Chloe Stanley, pleased to hear that you love this tutorial :) With the masking make sure Black is the foreground colour and the the Mask is Live, blue highlighted 03:29. You should also see a preview when you move the brush over (don't touch down) the mask. Hope this helps and please let me know how you get on. Cheers David
@@davro06 hello thanks for your reply, I managed to work out the problem. I have the two layers highlighted and struggled to work out how to just have the mask highlighted but I finally worked it out! Really happy with the results. Thank you
All worked perfect to me but the mask of the middle sketch layer. I tried a lot, the brushes had no effect. I made a mistake, I am sure of that, but I cannot figure it out.
Hi Manuel Remus Stanca, I take it you mean from 5:00 in the video? Make sure the Mask Layer is live by clicking on it and the default colours are set in the Colour panel, Press D. Make sure Black is the foreground colour and when you paint on the image and it will reveal the layer below. Hope this helps and please let me know how you get on. Cheers David
@@davro06 I checked it and I found out that no masks worked at all. I opened some old projects with masks. No one worked. I have to see why. Probably I have to re-install the Affinity Photo.

Hi. I can't get dust and scratches on my new live filter layer > noise. It's not highlighted just denoise, add noise and diffuse. I'm on version 1.10.3.1191. Great channel. Subd!

Outstanding tutorial. I have never thought much of sketch/painterly effects in Affinity....until now.
Thank you so much for the kind comment @cyeseye8387 , David
Excellent! Nice to watch a calm presentation where the mouse pointer isn’t moving like a hysterical blowfly 🙂
Many thanks John J Harman so pleased you enjoyed the presentation....blowfly free lol It is something I'm conscious of so happy it works. Cheers David
