I’ve said this for years shut your mouth is a master piece the best game in the series, but most people have here comes the pain rated higher which is crazy to me
I agree, SYM is my favorite of the original smackdown series and in some cases overall too. Season mode was such a blast to play thru, gameplay never got old, and while HCTP did advance it, I felt like the spontaneousness of it was lost. This game was peak for that
@jimmyrolls37 I'd say htcp was peak but sym made the basis for greatness that made everything about hctp great by adding body damage, more varying storyline paths, and more modes
Thank you very much for this review! I own Smackdown Shut Your Mouth and it's one of my favourite wrestling video games. Graphics are good, the controls is good, very exciting Season Mode, big amount of wrestlers to choose from (which you don't need to unlock). It is superb in every way.
From the menu and videos, and specific character unlockables, 360 finished cam on command just made this so special. I felt like i was immersed in the wwe world from the time the game loaded up to finish. You can't get any better
Graphics looked better than HCTP. The textures in HCTP were very low res and blurry. The lighting in SYM also made the game look realistic compared to most other games. The wrestlers just look real. Even the wrestler models look more accurate than current games. And those hairs look more realistic than the current ps4 and ps5 gen WWE games as well even though the hair is just a simple texture here. It's because of the way the hair strand are textures and lit, they look more real compared to current games. But the biggest sin of the current games are the hairlines and hair densite. The hairline looks thick and dense like those of toys and dolls, real hair does not look like that. Also the gameplay, albeit missing grapling lock from hctp was still fluid and responsive compared to current games and as a result, feels more fun to play.
Agree with everything. Eddie's model looked amazing. Those facepictures had a great effect. Not all though, but most of them. HCTP was very stylized and had a completely different aesthetic. Both looked great though. And both are still more fun than the recent titles🤷🏻♂️
Wonderfully created video. I loved the heck outta this game. Truly felt Like i was in the wwe universe every time i played, from the menus to the season to everything! You really did a great job thank you
Cant believe Ps2 games are way better than ps5 2023 games. graphics really dont matter when you have quality gameplay. These Smackdown games destroy every WWE 2k game.
Not even close you clearly only played one wwe game and it's this one the games got so much better over time the smackdown games are so outdated and clunky
@@nevermindgaming6848I played all 2K games, you're probably one of those that loves realism, and stamina bars LOL. Sorry, but when I play a wrestling game, I want fast paced, fun action where you can do anything and go anywhere. 2K is very limited, and it's sad to see you actually think they compare. Heck, story modes as well are boring as hell, the mode with your own character is a snooze fest.
You know if Kurt Angle has a finisher & you gut kick him, he can grab it into his finisher Ankle lock. I found that out recently & I was blown away by the details!! :O
Shut Your Mouth was the first wrestling game I ever bought. I watched Nitro at 1 AM each weekend when I was 8, and I loved Hogan, even though he was a heel. His whole gimmick just pulled me in. After a couple of years my grandparents no longer had access to Cartoon Network/TNT, and I kinda forgot about the whole thing. Then, in early 2003, I found Shut Your Mouth at half price a few months after release, and when I saw that Rock vs. Hogan cover I was fucking spellbound. I was 12/13 at the time, fell in love with wrestling all over again and never looked back. A few weeks later I made my mom buy WM19 on DVD, what a show to watch as your first PPV... The game itself is so incredibly good. If there was a mix of this games Season Mode and the one from Here Comes the Pain, you would have the absolute perfect mode. That Armageddon Hell in a Cell always fucked up my title reign though, and I had to tough it through the Rumble each time to make it to WM. And that Hulk Hogan model, both Red & Yellow and nWo, as you said, never ever been topped. I could go on. Maybe I should just make my own vid.. 😅
@@VanHellingtonStudios And also doesn't have the stupid tired animation your wrestler makes when your body turns orange or red. God this was why i could never enjoy Smackdown 1, 2 or even HCTP because of that annoying animation and get this i just broke my precious PSone LCD screen when i botched a Smackdown 1 match when i was playing as The Undertaker in the kitchen backstage, and nothing was going right for me and Jeff Hardy kept reversing every single move i threw at him and eventually my wrestler got tired for no reason and then i totally lost my temper and threw my controller so hard at the screen. Big Mistake! And i'm still devastated after seeing a crack in my PSone LCD screen.
Let me start off by saying SYM is a great game to this day and one I still enjoy and I love HCTP of course. But my favorite is still JBI because of all the little reasons. One you had the best original entrance music for each wrestler like Stone Cold s WrestleMania X7 music ( which sounded far better then his normal one) and Triple Hs original music ( which they gave to Stephanie for some reason) plus you had the real Hardy Boys, Tajiri and the old school Raw is War theme which brought back memories. But it wasn't just the music. You had the extra characters Foley, Billy Gunn with his one billy Gunn character instead of that ridiculous Billy& Chuck one, you had Tajiri s original music. Plus you could do the 8 man battle royal as opposed to six and have actual hardcore matches with give up off and a real I quit match with the microphone instead of just a submission match. It was little things like this that make it better to me. The last of the Attitude era I call it. Also can't forget Undertaker s original limp bizkit theme song and Kanes original music. Plus I thought it looked every bit as good as SYM
most fun thing i remembered about shut your mouth: waiting for the NPCs following me up the ramp on stage, knocking them down, climbing on the smackdown fist or King of the Ring Chair, and jumping down... god i loved it...

I don't always love the arcadey aspects, but it's been toned down compared to earlier entries in the Smackdown! series. You could wrestle as my "new" favorite wrestler at the time, RVD, and unlike his representation in the ECW & Legends video games, it actually *felt* like you were controlling RVD. His real-life wrestling style lent itself extremely well to the style of this game, and they were painstaking in including his fighting stance and "flow", and all of his various moves. And if you wanted a touch of Japan RVD, you could add a fisherman buster to his move list. Fighting Brock really felt like you were fighting Brock. With a psychotic quick-twitch, he would level you with that sudden clothesline. This was a lot of fun for me, because I have loved RVD's matches with Brock in 2002.
