I got the Model X because of the falcon doors. I know a lot of people may think that are unnecessary but the came in handy for us. I take care of my wheelchair bound mother and use a lift to get her into the car. The Falcon doors make is so much easier to get her into the car. I don't have to finagle with getting her in. No worries with watching out for her head hitting the top of the car or her bottom hitting the seat. The doors give you so much more room. Just lift her up and put her in. So easy.
Dave, I so enjoy your reviews and experiences. I am glad you have the ability to buy and review so many cars. All your viewers benefit from this! Thank you.
Dave's wife is more accomodating than mine... I've had my Model 3 for 6 years now, and she still says no when I even bring up the idea of starting to think about replacing it, since "it still works fine". lol
My wife has a 2023 X that looks basically identical to this one - beautiful red. Got it about 1 months ago before yours. I have a 3, also bought about the same time. The X we have is the dual motor version, has about 6000 miles. 22-inch wheels. Mostly used for trips and errands around town. It is a real road cruiser. We have had a couple of problems. About a week after purchase, the rear inverter failed, making the vehicle go into turtle mode, the first time very slow and shaking (I wasn’t there, but sure heard about it). We were able a few days later to get it to the service center about 35 miles away in faster turtle mode, and they took care of it (required rear inverter replacement). No other drivetrain problems since. Now however we have the pass-side falcon wing door will not open all the way unless you hold the screen button down for an extended period of time - the road service tech says this is a sensor problem (could be as simple as the sensor has become partially dismounted). So it looks like hubby here will get to take it to the service center, hopefully to be fixed in just an hour or two. I will say Tesla service has been very good to us, especially at the Rocklin(Tinker) service center NE of Sacramento, and my model 3 SR has had no problems except a couple of factory cosmetic defects that Tesla took care of.
I’ve had nothing but trouble with my falcon wing doors. They replaced the door sensors five times. It was always the passenger door that wouldn’t open all the way Tesla Sarasota had it for a week recently and I talked to a technician and he said it wasn’t the sensors on the passenger door that was causing a problem it was the sensor on the driver side, falcon wing door that was causing a problem and I said thats strange because that door always open fully he says that the sensors in both doors communicate with each other constantly, so no other technician knew this evidently cause they kept changing the ultrasonic sensors in the passenger door now the doors open up perfectly all the time and of course now the car has been classified as a Lemon and Tesla‘s gonna buy it back from me. I’m really contemplating on whether I wanna get another X or not
My wish list for a redesigned X: 1. A little larger so 3rd row is legit. 2. Modular seating so easier to reconfigure outside factory. Maybe a Stow&Go style. 3. Sliding doors (front and rear). Suicide style doors except sliding. Will look cool like FWD, but infinitely more practical and reliable. Frees up roof for racks like a proper SUV. 4. Bring electrical from CT (900V, 48V, etc.) 5. 4 wheel steering from CT. 6. Drive by wire steering from CT. 7. Digital rear/side mirrors with separate hi-rez screens. 8. Front bumper cam with better bird's eye 360 views to avoid curb rash epidemic. 9. Aftermarket instrumentation. With 48V, it is possible to publish API to allow plugNplay accessories, displays, controls. With strategic mounting points, it would allow easy customization. 10. Throw in the towel for vision only ADAS. More sensors will fill gaps that vision will never handle. Vision will never be better than the best human, but it needs to be superhuman and see what vision can't.
Many of the negatives you mentioned are reasons that I got an Audi e-tron instead of a Model X when I decided to move on from my Model X. The e-tron has a better ride, a quieter cabin, German fit and finish, actual parking sensors, a full-fledged instrument cluster (which is configurable, unlike the X and S), an actual sunroof, etc. I test drove Model X three times, and had one as a loaner for 3 days. I really wanted to like it, but it does not ride that well, is noisy, and for me the huge windshield is a pain. The flimsy little visors did not hack it for me. The falcon wing doors are sexy looking and helpful in some use cases, but are more trouble than they are worth. I do miss the Tesla software in some cases, but the e-tron is a better car for my needs than the X would be.
Effectively since the car was in Colorado for the winter you had the car in your possession around 3 months and now your moving on, must be some sort of record. You need an intervention.

I had HIGH HOPES of you doing several reviews of the X showing the good, the bad, and the ugly. Never happened. VERY surprised as your X videos drew some of your largest views compared to your other videos.
I think Kyle did a 7+ HOUR Live stream TOWING video. Who wants to see 7+ hours of towing??? True, Dave was getting 60K Views(Showroom) on some of the early Model X vids. I’m interested in the X and trusted there would be some great content on the X going forward. I was sad to see it go to Colorado and not much appeared. Was hoping at least Colton would show a video of detailing & build/paint quality. Nothing…Bummer.
@32:23 Your left arm should be free floating with your left hand holding and driving the steering. When I drive my MYP, both arms are free floating, anchored by the hands on the steering. You're driving Dave! 🙂
One thing very underrated about the six seat configuration captains chairs is you can store so many items between and around those seats, for example, if you are on a road trip, and had a lot of luggage of different sizes and shapes, quite amazing how much this car can eat up in storage.
My long range model X came with the ultra red at no additional cost. I’m not sure when they changed that must’ve been just after you were looking Dave but now it’s back to 2500.
Love the channel Dave. As a former Model X owner wondering if you had any issue with the the front half shafts? My X had several sets of half shafts replaced over a 2 year plus timeframe (all covered under warranty)...Common issue that causes vibration and some noise when accelerating hard. Thanks
So much inequity when you sold it whether you financed it or bought it out right that you don’t sound like a very smart man trading/buying cars so often with inequity after inequity after inequity but to each it’s own
Do you have a deal with these dealerships where you keep and drive the car for a few months then return it? How are you able to return cars you bought over and over again?
Looking at previous videos - six months ago “ Wife drives my Model X for the first time and says it a keeper” - guess it was never likely! Look forward to the collection day video.
12:43 ish: Bad habit to depend on the (EPA) range, better to just leave it as percent. When travelling, Range itself isn't as important as how much juice will be "in the tank" when you get to your next charger. When driving locally, percentage is much more important than EPA range, regardless. The EPA range given is going to be wrong. It is based on the results of a test suite defined by the Feds to give the consumer a basis of comparison between vehicles. It should not be used as an indication of how far the car is going to go before the batteries are empty. There are at least two better sources of range numbers in a Tesla than that silly EPA range.
I’m really stuck between the model 3 performance and a new model s plaid! Trying to find a models a plaid to drive at the Tesla service center. We love our dual motor highland. Wondering if the performance will be enough or if we need to get the model s

I do not see the value in the X over the Y. The interior is about the same size in the front 2 rows, and the falcon wing doors are a pain for maintenance.
The doors auto open now, right? Interesting on the arm rest.... I may have to wait for Juniper, but the air suspension is soo nice when I test drove one awhile ago...
After driving the "Y" for 5300 miles, I've come to the same conclusion. The "Y" is a minivan. It's not an agile car; it's actually a bit twitchy. I took a ride out to North Adams- Mt Greylock today, and the twisty roads weren't fun. So... I'm seriously considering taking a bath on the "Y" and getting a 3 Performance.
Kind of interesting about the horn. I had a 1972 Ford Courier Pickup that I purchased in 1978. It was broken into so I redid the interior and used a custom steering wheel. I decided to use a horn button on the steering column for looks although the center of the Grant GT custom steering wheel's center hub was "pressable." I sold the truck to a friend and told him about the horn button. When he was in a parking lot, someone backed out and did not see him. He desperately started pressing the center of the steering wheel but by the time he realized the horn button location, the car hit his fender. So I can understand how we have that mental tendency to press in the center of the steering wheel and in the split second it takes to remember the new location of a common device, an accident can ensue.
Dave I rented the model X through Turo, which for me, was a bad experience, never doing that again. The falcon wing doors are a pain in the ass. The yoke is awful. Model y owner 4 years. Model X tax baby owner for 2 months-best car ever…for me. I keep it in Chill mode as insane setting is too sensitive and too crazy fast (I am a previous 911 owner and would take it to the track). The bench back seat is comfortable and very useful as it can fold down. No need for the third row. Most annoying feature are the power driver/passenger doors. I really enjoy all of the new cars that are on the horizon. At the age of 65, my driving years are definitely limited. So the model X is perfect for now. Yeah, Dave is not the normal car consumer, but he does drive a lot, and gives a lot of good insight. Sadly, the model X may be my last car purchase, but I hope not. Cheers!
Bought mine in Nov 2023, when the Escalade IQ is available im trading it in. Love the X, but since it's my 3rd Tesla, I'm kinda just bored honestly. And here in Austin, there's a million Tesla. Since we have home charging, less worried about the charging network which was why I initially kept buying only Tesla.
Funny, I traded my 2017 Volt on a 2024 X LR last month. Like them both very much. Having the horn in the center of the steering wheel was a VERY pleasant surprise.
I have the exact same car and it just COMMANDS respect on the road! When you compare the pros with the cons, the flaws seem miniscule.. Frunk is automatic these days and all other things you mentioned is very minor cosmetic issues you can easily ignore.. I have all around tint window protection, PPF and ceramic coating on the car and it is pleasant inside at reg AC settings.. If you needed more space at the back, you should have bought a truck.. Ask the parents of young kids why falcon doors are a big relief for getting them in and out of the car so quickly.. If you want kids chairs to have arm rests, then your crib of massage chair for driver was no surprise.. 22 inch wheels are so much better when you go on long trips.. The sound system and online games at the back seat is a big relief for parents at front.. This car is probably best for young parents and not grandparents!
I have the exact same car, year etc... I agree with all the criticisms, the left arm rest is like just 1" too far away. Im 6'-3" so thats a bit odd. I have no plan to sell ours but the items listed are minor annoyances but all easily adjusted in an slight redesign/update
I would like to know if it's actually stereo and not just high quality audio. I have a 2020 model Y and if I move my head to the middle of the car over the armrest I can get a bit of stereo sound but not what I think of as true stereo. Listen to the beginning of the Beatles "Back in the USSR" that jet should travel from the far right to the far left very clearly. Also give a listen to the "Let it be" album, the very first track you have the first guitar that comes in is in the left speaker the next guitar part comes in on the right speaker and you can clearly hear each guitar left and right you can also hear Paul on one speaker and John on the other when they are singing. That does not happen in my car. Great sounding audio but not very good stereo. Also give a listen to the James Gang "Funk 49".
We have the same 3 cars as Dave and we love all 3 of them. I drive the X and I love it. The X is a wonderful family car and I love the size. I didn't think I would like the falcon wing doors but I love them. The only thing I don't like is the horn button.
So, should I have already sold my '22 Ford Mach-e? I only have 31,000 on it. How about my '99 Lexus? This is crazy. I cannot fathom dealing with buying a new car more than every five or more years.
I get that experience with the driver door when im trying to enter. Sometimes it would open an inch and its an effort to pry it open as well as when closing it when I MANAGE TO get inside. Is there a fix for this? This happens to me occasionally. Thats my gripe with my MX 2023
Mmmmm maybe we are related, I can justify about anything, specially when it’s about buying a new car . My wife name is Kathy too. Cue the twilight zone music.
I don’t like the horn placement on the 2023 model X it’s not in the center where it should be. I had a couple instances where people were backing out of their driveways and I went to hit the horn and forgot where it was and I almost got hit twice. It really is a safety issue but since then they have changed it to the center but they won’t retrofit unless I give them $1000 to change The steering wheel as they claim it has a different type of airbag for the wheel that has the horn in the center, but it really really is a safety issue. You would think Tesla would change it. No questions asked
How can i trust you. I was ready to get the X based on your excitement and report about it. But now i pause on the X and the hype. Now you put a carrot out there. Why don't you just spill the beans so i can do some research. I don't need suspense. Not much time left.
You are lucky for not paying as much sales taxes as I do !!! I am in California, and in my County, the sales taxes are 10.75% Otherwise, I would change my Tesla every year or so.

Since we have home charging, less worried about the charging network which was why I initially kept buying only Tesla.
Always enjoy your videos Dave!
Funny, I traded my 2017 Volt on a 2024 X LR last month. Like them both very much. Having the horn in the center of the steering wheel was a VERY pleasant surprise.
I think Kyle had that car more than you did
No thinking about it kyle had the x and lucid air more than Dave.
Kyle raised him right.
I went model y with 7 seat and acceleration boost. Checks all boxes.
It does tell u in the side camera view on the screen with a red blinking light for blind spot and makes sound I drive a model s
I have the exact same car, year etc... I agree with all the criticisms, the left arm rest is like just 1" too far away. Im 6'-3" so thats a bit odd. I have no plan to sell ours but the items listed are minor annoyances but all easily adjusted in an slight redesign/update
Any seat color as long as it's black or white.
Equinox EV, since I'm assuming it is just for testing a few months
We have the same 3 cars as Dave and we love all 3 of them. I drive the X and I love it. The X is a wonderful family car and I love the size. I didn't think I would like the falcon wing doors but I love them. The only thing I don't like is the horn button.
So, should I have already sold my '22 Ford Mach-e? I only have 31,000 on it. How about my '99 Lexus? This is crazy. I cannot fathom dealing with buying a new car more than every five or more years.
I think the newest software update actually restores the auto opening front doors,
I get that experience with the driver door when im trying to enter. Sometimes it would open an inch and its an effort to pry it open as well as when closing it when I MANAGE TO get inside. Is there a fix for this? This happens to me occasionally. Thats my gripe with my MX 2023
That is exactly why you dont change the stalks, its universal. Breaking out of the mold just creates...
I'm thinking Porsche Macan EV.
Wrong. RR EV!
Anyone have the Over-Under numbers on the Macan EV yet? I know September is a ways off but want in on the action EARLY! 😂😂😂
totally agree on steer by wire. if the X or S had that, the Yoke would make much more sense
Out of Spec Dave (Dad). Happy father's day!!!
Thanks!
Dave you burn through Teslas faster than me 😅
Guilty as charged
@@outofspecdave1554Charged…good one!
Mmmmm maybe we are related, I can justify about anything, specially when it’s about buying a new car . My wife name is Kathy too. Cue the twilight zone music.
You can’t fold the second row down ? That’s ridiculous! I don’t think your concerns over lack of basic safety systems is nitpicky at all.
About a quarter through the video I realized why you got rid of the X, all you need is the Volt!
How much are you selling for and what's the mileage?
Dave "Making Room" for a Gen2 R1S Quad?
Makes no sense why you are giving up the X. Better ride and interior is the best. But when it’s your business to review cars that’s what you do!
Hapoy Father’s day Dave!
Thanks!!!
Saw a video on a software update that fixes the auto presenting doors working with a non-USS Model X.
The 3rd gen prius looks like a 2nd gen volt
You just bought a Model 3 - how many do you need?
The fact that this videos pops up after I watched Dave take delivery of his new car is crazy lol
How can i trust you. I was ready to get the X based on your excitement and report about it. But now i pause on the X and the hype. Now you put a carrot out there. Why don't you just spill the beans so i can do some research. I don't need suspense. Not much time left.
Aside from some nitpicking, this entire video was about how GOOD the X is(was by now 😂). There will always be something to nitpick. Buy the X.
3 I.d4’s ionic 5, 2 model s, 2 model 3, lucid air, volt, elR all in 2 years.
Dave -- Perhaps if you bought a combustion vehicle, you might be satisfied with it enough to keep it for a few years. Just a thought.....
Thanks for the x review. Now I think I’ll keep my 23 model s. I need the 400 mile range.
And I think what’s coming later in year could be a RIVIAN R1S
It will not be a R1S. He and Kathy both have mentioned how the X feels big. The R1S is even bigger. I'm guessing it'll be a M3P.
Cybertruck? Model 3 Performance?
R1S Quad Gen 2?
6 month you will know a lot of a car. Does not matter sell or let go it tells you a lot. Good call before it lose all its value.
Did I miss the part where you mentioned the useless sunvisors? My wife lovers her '23 MXLR even with the Tesla idiosyncrasys. I prefer my '22 MYP.
You are lucky for not paying as much sales taxes as I do !!!
I am in California, and in my County, the sales taxes are 10.75%
Otherwise, I would change my Tesla every year or so.
Shocker, OOS Dave is selling yet another car. I other news today, the sun rose.
My prediction: 🤓
Porsche Macan EV on order for Cathy - giveaway was the NY Auto Show and mention of the massaging seats. Colour guess in grey (not a solid guess on the colour).
Tesla Model X Plaid swap for Tesla Model 3 Performance - I am going to guess in same combo red with white seats - giveaway was Tesla showroom sit in review of the Performance 3 and Dave convincing himself he needs because he can see his phone!📱
It’s 2.5 inches wider and a foot longer than the y.
