Best part about the movie is it doesn't end where you think it would. The extra 20+ mins of unexpected action really puts the cherry on top of what was already a fantastic movie.

The fact that they brought back Val Kilmer acknowledging and appreciating his chemotherapy and two tracheotomies through his lengthy battle with cancer is such a respectful gesture beyond the realm of acting that is heartbreaking and wholesome at the same time.

The best story I heard about this movie is that all the streaming platforms wanted it and we're eager to buy the rights to stream it on release day. Mr. Tom Cruise himself said NO to everyone. He wanted an exclusively theater-only release.

The rare movie that not only lives up to the hype, it surpasses it in every way. The flight scenes alone are worth the price of admission...simply some of the most spectacular footage ever filmed for a movie.

I didn't like the first movie that much, and was in the Navy at the time. Saw this yesterday on IMAX and it was much better than the first movie, and well worth a trip to an IMAX theater
We wanted this sequel so badly, but we must admit we were not prepared for this absolute masterpiece, everything is here to the nth degree, action, thrills, nostalgia, friendship, a roller coaster of emotions. Mr Cruise thank you for sharing with us your immense talent, passion and love for this art, for me the only actor who can keep me in front of a screen and take me where he wants to go. I was 16 years old when the first Top Gun came out, seeing this was like catching up with old friends I had lost touch with for 36 years.
I wasn’t born yet when Top Gun (1986) was released. So I watched it. Then watched Top Gun Maverick (2022). I love both movies!

OP, just know that there were 2 F/A-18s used in this movie. One was a single seat and the other was a 2-seater. I haven’t tracked the two-seater, but I can tell you that without a doubt, the 1-seater E model, 165667;is currently assigned to the Blue Angels.

I was only 13 when the original came out exactly ten years younger than Tom Cruise. Now I'm 49. It really brought be back to my youth. I couldnt stop smiling while watching it. Its also really something to see a movie with your friends when you are a teenager and then see the sequel with your teenage kids. Truly nostalgic!

After seeing it just now, I believe I speak for everyone when I say that Maverick has earned its place in the "sequels that are better than the original movies" hall of fame. The whole studio was on their feet and cheering after it was all said and done.

Wish my dad was still alive to see this with him. He took me to see the first one the night it came out when I was 13. He just got off of work at the base and was still in his uniform and I remember feeling proud and special walking out of the theater holding his hand. (he served in the Navy from 1963-1970 as mechanic then a pilot on the USS Wasp finding astronauts in the ocean. He then served again from 1981-1982,in the Navy reserves. He then moved to USAF in 84' then to USAF reserves at some point to 2011 when they told him had to retire.) Good man he was.

I spent my childhood watching the first film with my dad, it was his favorite and he always talked excitedly about one day being able to watch a sequel together at the cinema. For years he fought an illness and couldn't resist the last blow, I couldn't help but remember him when I found out that there would be a sequel to Top Gun, on the day of the premiere I spent the entire film emotional and at the end I couldn't contain my tears when I looked at the empty chair next to me and to think that my father could be there clapping and smiling. Dad, I love you, you are missed and I'm sure you would have loved this movie

I think that this movie , even though it is set in the 21 century and showing all the modern technology, it still succeeded in bringing the vibe of the first movie.... i think that's why it became such a big hit...a big phenomenon

Just watched yesterday, this is not just a “usual” movie, this is like handmade car, like tailormade suit, it’s real masterpiece. Thanks a lot to all who was involved in making of this film. After another 10-15 years when drones will take over on the skies, people will watch it as a fantastic movie.
This movie is sheer awesomeness and endlessly rewatchable but the fact that this was made THIRTY FIVE years after the original and Tom Cruise has barely aged a day and is still doing all his own stunts is INSANE. Tom Cruise, you are forever loved.

My dad introduced me to Topgun movie when I was a kid. Watched it with him. He explained movie parts that I didn't understand. My dad served in the military. Now he is no more. Hearing this old BGM brings back memories of my Dad, my childhood. Emotions run high in my mind. I wish if he was alive and could sit beside me to watch the upcoming part together...😔. Eagerly waiting for the movie. Its quite nostalgic to me.

One of those rare occasions where the sequel outshines the original. I can't say enough about the actors and especially Tom & Jon Hamm's performance. Just awesome.
Well I think as massive as the first one is, over time it’s shown that it’s far from a perfect movie. It’s entertaining but it has some faults. Meanwhile this movie is basically an improvement in almost every single way possible. Especially the story and the character depth (I also have to give big praise to Cruise’s performance); both of which are actually the main reasons why I loved this movie.
This is the Elden Ring of movies.
Amassed enormous hype for years before release, and upon release not only was worth all the wait, but exceeded those sky-high expectations.

I have had a love for this movie ever since I saw the original. I wore out the vhs, the dvd made way for the blu ray and now Vudu. When I hear that opening music my hair stands on end and I smile. I quote this movie daily. I will be first in line in may.
This movie was so well made, from the cast, acting, story development, emotion, well taste humor, music, even the ending was well thought out.. i can go on and on. They made the story cohesive and unexpected. Sometimes u know whats going to happen and you feel bored watching but here, u might know what will happen but regardless you are pleasantly entertained and surprised. Its such a good movie, even if this is not a genre u tend to watch, let this be an exception. It is so good u need to watch it.

Man. This is one of the best movies I have seen. A round of applause to the writers, producers, scores, and cast. The way they paced the story was as if we were gliding over the ocean at minimum speed and low altitude the entire time. Not a beat was missed. All I can say is wow! I cried. I laughed. I jumped. I cringed at the stunts. The entire movie was MAGIC.

I just came back from watching it. And I cried a bit full of emotion. It deserves the 97% rotten tomatoes. And is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. The way that they direct the stunts on the planes of mind blowing, and the scenery they lay it is amazing. Better than “Top Gun 1”

This film paid homage to the original in a fine way. You could feel that this was a farewell for all the characters and the franchise throughout. It also saw the wisdom and maturity of Maverick come full circle. Well done!
Watched this yesterday for the first time on DVD. It is as good as all the hype and delivers on every count. The brief interaction between Cruise and Kilmer is particularly moving and adds great value to an already excellent story.
I can only imagine the feelings Tom felt the very first time he was called Maverick again after all these years, this movie has always held a special place in his heart and being able to put on that helmet again....no words. I'm SO excited to see this!! 22 days and counting!!!

We had been getting rushed games lately, Battlefield 2042, COD Vanguard, many others and they arent't as refined.
For movies, the stakes are higher, jets that cost millions... I say we give them time.
I won't sit around for a rushed movie, especially lore-wise. I still remember the newest Matrix, was subpar.
This is how movie done right. The message wasn't pushed or seemed forced but when Tom Cruise refer to cockpit as "box" is smooth and the correct way to move in the right direction. There are so many skillful female pilots now in aviation, the referring to their workplace as "cockpit" is outdated. TC is nice with this one, none of that forced PC bs...real OG for sure.
Watched this a few days after it was released with my wife , I regarded the original top gun one of the greatest movies of all time and held such a lot of memories of it , so 36 years later I'm sat in the cinema watching this with so much emotion, what an amazing film , so many nods to the original, I genuinely got in the car after and broke down in tears somehow it felt personal like the journey was complete

Phenomenal film. I saw the first one at the theaters when i was 7 with my dad. I wish I could turn back the clock and tried to become an Navy Aviator but it was never even on my radar.
Huge fan of the original. Just got out of imax and this movie was 10/10 amazing. Such a breath of fresh air to get away from all the cgi filled speed telling story movies we are always getting. Most fun I had in a theater in years.

This was a sequel I didn't realize we needed. It did such a great job paying homage to the original film and actors. It also provided closure to the Goose character and made the two films complete. Crews was amazing as alway. This character was made for him. The rest of the cast was also very good. This film is entertainment at it's finest. By far the best movie I've seen in a long time.

Over $1.2 billion to date this movie has made at the box office. Considering Top Gun made $358 million, this movie knocked it out of the park. Going down in the history books.
Inflation, buddy. Wikipedia, and other sites where you look for info, show the money the movie makes at box office at the time it was released. (Not just for Top Gun, obviously, but for every movie). So, you have to take inflation into consideration, and if calculation are correct, 357 mil in 1986. is what 965 mil is in 2022.
That doesn't mean Maverick is failure, not even close, as both movies made more money than it was invested into them.

That signature tune, that fierce roar of the engines-- and that feeling that you wanted to be a fighter pilot. That's what made me LOVE the first Top Gun and this is shaping up to be a solid sequel-- personally still count it as one of Tom Cruise's best roles. I felt the feels when Goose's son showed up and I gave a sad smile, liking how he looked so much like his dad-- and the reference to Val Kilmer's Iceman was a powerful touch. I seriously hope it doesn't disappoint and my excitement has returned-- we've all waited over 30 years for the true redemption that Maverick deserves.

the amount of times i caught myself smiling, crying, laughing... this is the best movie i have ever seen. Especially in the cinemas, its such a powerful film. this is how movies should be. the fact that the movies is a lot more entertaining than the trailer says something as well; usually they put all the best parts in the trailer and the movie does not live up to it
