- Here's your go to video for "what to know" when buying a hitch for your VOLVO 240!
The large bolts will be incorrect if you have the welded nut in your frame rail. Half of the places you will order from will get it wrong.
Most of the instructions out there are kind of vague
You may trigger the bulb out indicator on the dash if you don't use a tail light repeater module
I love lawncare enthusiasts.

What other hitch options are out there? What was your experience?
Hitches were one of the many “dealer installed accessories” that were available for these cars. The holes are already there for a genuine Volvo hitch. You would have to be patient in order to find one for sale. You would also expect to pay a premium for one. I did for my current 1993 240 sedan and I also did with a previous 1991 sedan.
@@honestaquarian Its the best upgrade for a 240.
@@DeanofMachinesNow if I could only get my greasy grabbers on an A/C high pressure switc. So that I can get the auxiliary electric cooling fan in front of the condenser working. You wouldn’t happen to know where I could find a working used one wouldya? They’re NLA from Volvo.
@@honestaquarian you may have to snag one from a parts car.
@@DeanofMachines When it comes to the plastic valence panel underneath the bumper. I pulled out my trusty, rusty metal snips and cut a slot in the middle of that panel for the receiver part of the hitch to pass through. That way I didn't have to cut that entire panel off. The slot is probably four or five inches wide and when I pushed the hitch up into place the plastic that I cut just folded up out of the way.
As a guy who had many RX-7's and want a Volvo wagon to tow a jet ski, I feel like you're living the dream!
Thanks man! It sounds like you have great taste!
Dean for me you are the BOSS of the VOLVO ALESSANDRO FROM ITALY
@@alessandropostiglione3568 😂 Thank you Alessandro!!
One of the things that impressed me about the 240 when I had my 1984 GLE was that I was able to tow a 27 foot caravan through a swampy creek beside my house to get the caravan behind the house. I thought I would get wheel spin and be stuck in the gully. No siree. That auto trans chugged through the swamp and up the other side, no slip. It may be when and where I grew fond of the old 240. It's not fast, but it will get you there. Happy trailering.
Thats a great point! Its amazing what a 240 can do especially towing something
The funny thing is, when I'm doing the hitch mounting process on my 245 wagon, I also have a dead VW in my driveway. Lol, thanks for the great instructions.
Sorry to hear of your VWTroubles. Hope the video helped your installation!
Hey Dean! Thanks for a fun video! That repeater looks like a cool piece of electronics.
With modern cars they are pretty much a requirement!
Navy vet? Thank you for your service. Old USAF vet here. Nice video
Thank you kindly! I did 7 years, 6 of them in Japan
What a coincidence! I bought a hitch for my 240 and started installing it a few weeks ago. I'll let you know when I finish installing it. The prices for the new hitches are crazy, but I luckily scored a used one at a swap meet and then bought the bolt kit from eBay.
Heck yeah! Truth be told, this video is from about three months ago and I put it aside to act as filler when needed. More hang ups with the 122 2 door means a lack of content for three weeks now :(
Nice job Dean! Your front right wheel is missing a nut! But I’am nuts about your chanel and a little nutty with some loose wires! So keep up 🆙 the good work! Looking 👀 forward to your next vid! And a big 👍🏻 🆙 like always!
Its kind of a running joke at this point. Some day I’ll find the correct lug nut for it. Thanks for coming back!
@@DeanofMachines I’ll be coming back of you like 👍🏻 it or not! 😂😂😂
Pops right out
I can't believe the U Pull yards there don't have any 240's to get one off of.
We rarely see 240s in yards. I decided to spend the 200 bucks on new since this wagon is so clean.
I also had a trailer hitch on my na6. I used it exactly once before having massive mechanical sympathy for the clutch.
I can only imagine that poor little car just struggling lol
I'm 62 years old, I always expect wrong hardware.....
Its the sad reality of it. Its been a known issue for a loooong time.
With computer power these days, you’d think UHaul would have their act together.
I for sure thought they would have had it. Though, i was skeptical and even tried calling the store. I couldn’t get a human being just the damn phone tree from hell that would direct you to use the website and give them your email and other personal information
On ya Dean!, now you can start hauling shit for friends and family.
Most Volvos ( after 1970 ) were born with tow hitch ready at the dealership , at least in its natural elements of Scandinavia.
Darwin would have called it natural selection, I call it practical selection.
You would think more cars would come equipped as such. In ‘Murica if you cant fit it in a car then you obviously need a truck!
torque to spec
like i do with everything
wink
Good enough for the girls we date!
11:30 Heat-shrink that butt connector!
Noted! Ill put it on the list!
"Advanced"
They were infact, not ready.
Slips right in.
Couldn’t believe how easy it was! Like it was made for it
