From what I've seen in other youtube videos, those moss poles are easier if you lay the moss on it while it's flat and then close it up. Never done it myself but it looks easier that way.
I love systemic. It gives me some peace of mind knowing I have that on board and bugs will not decimate my plants. I have not had any bug issues on my plants. I have been using it for over 2 years now and it has done extremely well for me.
@@EverythingPlants Love the longer videos! It didn't feel like 40 minutes on this end either. Your content and delivery is great. By the way, nice job with the stool! Much safer now. 😄
Here's my new plank/pole insight. A moss pole is basically a perpetual air layering device, where the aerial roots for every node produce soil roots the instant they come into contact with the moist moss. This is why moss poles are so good at chop-and-extend, because the top cutting (where the big leaves are) already has an established root system within the pole that provides water to the existing leaves, completely independent of the root system in the pot. Planks also facilitate mature leaf production, because they support vertical stem growth, but the entire plant is completely dependent on the roots in the pot for water. Because of this, a top cutting must either be air layered first before the chop, or it can only include two or three leaves to prevent dehydration during the repot. The aerial roots act more like a rope, securing the stem to the plank, or like a hose that grows straight down to access water directly from the pot. This is more like plant behavior in nature, but it's not as easy to chop and prop as moss poles are. Your plank closeups are great because they show both the behavior of the aerial roots and also those small internodal gripper roots. When people show their moss pole grows, the stem is so close to the pole that it's hard to see if the small gripper roots get established or not. Since there's nothing firm for them to anchor into, they may not activate at all. It will be interesting to see if your moss pole grow produces these small roots or not. Every wizard has a wand. Yours is a pencil.
I really appreciate you taking the time for this comment. I 100% agree with everything you stated. I plan on doing the airlayering method once it outgrows the plank. Everyone has their own preferences and honestly I just the look of the plank. Thanks so much for this comment. I really enjoyed the read ✏️
@@EverythingPlants Planks definitely offer more options for achieving the desired look. Right now I'm considering plywood, because I think width is more important than thickness. Also, plywood is graded by smoothness of front and back: A, B, or C. Lower grade has a rougher texture, is less expensive, and probably activates root gripping better, so I'll use CC. When carefully laid out, a single sheet can be cut into as many as 20 individual planks. For high end presentation, such as a living room, the plank can be stained (not painted) to match the decor of the room, and even framed. One idea I have is to make a plank that goes almost from floor to ceiling, and is wide enough for three or four stems. Then I can, for example, grow multiple varieties of pothos on a single plank, framed and hung on a wall as living art. The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter.

Hi Jeff, love your videos! I have a question about your plants on planks. When the aerial roots attach to the planks, like on your cebu blue, do you or can you then remove the velcro? I'm going to try a few of my plants on planks and I'm just trying to learn all I can.
Looks like you've had some success with the plank growing method. I live in a drier climate and would probably have to water them daily, I would then be concerned about overwatering the substrate😣 How often to you water yours?
Hey Joanna. I live in the Canadian prairies (always super dry here) and I water it the exact same why I do if it wasn't growing on a plank. The only difference is when I do water ill spray the plank and let the water flow onto the pot. It's super easy
Link Jeff? I seem to have the same lazy problem with building my own as well! Do you watch Sydney plant guy? He uses moss poles with soil not leca and he only waters the poles and has amazing plants on poles. If I ever grow up I'll have all least one plant like his haha

What kind of plank do you use? I recently bought some and they are starting to rot and it’s only been not even two weeks and I’ve only watered my plants once since put in the planks in
That doesn't sound right. Are they cardboard? I've had some of my planks in for almost over a year and I've had no rot issues at all. I would recommend using cedar as it's the most rot resistant, but I do have the majority of mine on pine.

Looks nice, simpler than making your own
I agree!
I watched another UA-cam channel and the young lady used these and demonstrated how to attach them when the plant outgrew the existing pole
I love the planks idea
They have been working out so well
I wish I had a golden pothos with gold on it! If you ever need a Canadian to send some clippings to, I'm here for you Jeff 🤣 for real though, my Golden pothos is green, it's defective, I haven't seen any local so I ordered it and I like it but it's kinda boring being just green 🤷🏼♀️
Are you in Saskatchewan?
@@EverythingPlants I'm in Kenora, Ontario about two hours East of Winnipeg
@@MarisaAndChew Nice!
I also live in Canada in Ontario it’s still very hot here too and I like house plant A lot
Hey Christopher....from Saskatchewan!
Let’s get you to 100k
Oh man I hope it happens some day
Hi Jeff, love your videos! I have a question about your plants on planks. When the aerial roots attach to the planks, like on your cebu blue, do you or can you then remove the velcro? I'm going to try a few of my plants on planks and I'm just trying to learn all I can.
Oh ya....the parts that are stuck to the board are on there pretty good. I just leave them on because I move them around quite a bit
@@EverythingPlants ok, thanx! Thats good to know because I probably will move them around a lot, too.
You could also use just a light mist onto the plank...enough that it lightly waters the plank, but not enough the run down into the soil
Link Jeff? I seem to have the same lazy problem with building my own as well! Do you watch Sydney plant guy? He uses moss poles with soil not leca and he only waters the poles and has amazing plants on poles. If I ever grow up I'll have all least one plant like his haha
Here are the moss poles from north shore tropicals. They are pretty cool

@@EverythingPlants thank you! The dogs vet bill just ate my plant money but I bookmarked it for next month! I think this is a genius design! I was looking at 3D printed ones but on Etsy they were really expensive per inch and on Amazon they shipped from China, they are probably stronger for a heavy plant but I'm not opposed to staking!
Where did you get those?? I’ve been thinking about trying the poles and that looked easy
These are the ones I got!

Gi Jeff. Could you please provide a link or name of the souce or budiness where you purchased the systemic insecticide from??
