I use clear tubs that dips and take-out come in. I just poke holes with a soldering iron. I also cut off clear plastic bottles to the right height and poke holes for smaller pots. For propagating succulents and seed starting, I use old Keurig cups from the office. Not clear, but they already have a hole in the bottom! None of these plastics are reliably recycled so I figure this is better than putting them in the recycling bin.

I do love the moisture meter, definitely a game changer. But the little soldering iron is an unnecessary buy - just get a nail or a screw, hold it over an open flame like a candle until it's hot, around 20-30 seconds and poke/melt a hole through that way = )

For sure, re. the moisture meter, esp. the handy 3in1 types (moisture/light/PH).
For anyone with a massive potted plant family, using a soldering iron would be the easiest solution. Plus, there's little risk of accidental burned fingers 😂
Not a bad tool to have around either as it can be used for other tasks too 👍

Yeah, maybe if you just had one random pot you needed to make a quick hole in.....but that's WAY too much hassle if you have more than one hole to make and if you do this often. You can literally get a soldering iron for like 8 bucks. Just plug it in and your done.

Yep, clear pots is the way to go. Only issue really is the available sizes. Also bottom watering to help prevent gnats. But if you want to get rid of gnats you have to attack all of their life stages: spraying neem oil diluted for adults, glue traps, and keeping the top 1 cm dry so they dont like it. A layer of diatomaceous earth or pumice can help and it also works as mulch.

My sister-in-law has started using clear pots. I sometimes use red solo cups (normal and shot sized) when propagating. At first I was heating a nail in a candle flame to put drainage holes in them. When I was working on another plant project using empty soda bottles I found that method to be hard on my fingers. My sister-in-law suggested a wood burning pen. It works so much better than a fire heated nail!

I just lift the clear pot once in a while to check the moisture. That said, I still can't find any other bad reason and I don't know why there isn't a wider variety of clear pots (I can only find several sizes)

I am using clear containers (yep, no pots harmed in my household, lol) since the beginning of my house plant journey, which started in July 2024. The main reason in my case was the fear of killing my plants as soon as I get them home 🤭 as well as I wanted to be in control and have access to roots anytime I wanted/needed. And, of course, because I love to watch my plants to grow. Most of my plants are in plastic drinking cups or transparent dessert cups and I use yogurt cups (among other things) as cachepots 🤣

I had an explosion of fungus gnats this spring when I thought I would use a little bit of potting mix to start some seeds when I ran out of my sterilized seed starting mix 🙄 boy was that a big mistake! I finally had to buy some mosquito dunks and dissolve them in water to water my plants with. Didn't hurt my plants at all but that is the only thing that killed the larvae and stopped the life cycle of those pains in the bum. Took about 2 weeks to finally get rid of them all. Now I keep Zevo lights plugged in my kitchen and plant room just in case something slips by me. That will catch them. I also have those yellow sticky pads in my plants (I heard they were attracted to yellow)

I love your videos ❤ any advice why my bottom leaves on multiple plants are turning sick looking? They start getting a pale green color with dark green spots and then quickly turn yellow in some places and eventually completely yellow and shrivel up, or I cut it off before that point because idk if it will spread :(. Appreciate any help

That naturally happens as those leaves get old, age out and die off because the plant is focusing on the tips that have new growth ❤

Sounds like either overwatering or a nutrient deficiency.

Probably leads to more algae which is bad for your indoor climate, and possibly also your plants.

No solution? Little black flies all over, don't think they're gnats.

How much ginger did you add to the plant a slice or several slices?
