The 407 sale to a sheik was the height of corruption and the cost to users also goes beyond outrageous to the criminal. The 407 should be immediately ‘nationalized’ back to Ontario.
Absolutely! The pack-jammed 401 is constantly having to be re-paved and yet the 407 is less than half full at any given time. It make NO sense.

Great it was time for Suburbs to pay for the usage if these highways. It was insane to expect Toronto to pay for these roads alone so someone from Oakville can drive into city everyday.

Lmao, yeah right. We voted yes to tolls on the Gardiner/DVP 10 years ago and the Liberal provincial government shut it down. Frankly I'd be happy if Ford taxed those highways.

Great! We all know cars cost a lot more to society than the drivers actually pay, due to space usage, induced maintenance cost, added healthcare cost, and pollution. Let them give some of it back.
That’s crazy talk. Ford is pro-driving and has consistently removed tolls from roads, even though doing so has ruined the province’s budget for roads. The Gardiner and DVP have been dragging down the city’s budget for a while. The previous mayor tried to toll it. The current mayor suggested just tearing it down because it’s just too expensive for the city to maintain. Ford is taking it over to prevent it from being torn down.

Ontario taxpayers already pay for the 400/401/404/427 which are all inside Toronto.
The only part the government is "taking back" is the stretch of the Gardiners in the extreme west end, from Park Lawn to the Mississauga boundary. The rest was never provincial. It was built, funded, and operated by the city.
So they will become toll roads now?

That Bloor subway line should be extended to major urban area city centres such as Mississauga and Brampton at the very least. Additional stations can be added as demand increases and areas become more populated. A patch work system just frustrates users and causes delays for ridership, just as the Eglinton LRT has been proven to cause traffic mayhem along Eglinton and it's not even in operation yet. Let's learn from other cities and not repeat the same mistakes they make.

Ont. Taxpayer money used to have Toronto look the other way on the Ontario Place deal that may see even more Taxpayer money go to developer friends - is how I see this.
The DVP and Gardiner are mainly used by commercial vehicles and suburban commuters, neither of which pay taxes to Toronto. The provincial government should be responsible for the upkeep.

The highways aren't the real problem, it's the traffic! Toronto keeps building skyscrapers but is at least 40 years behind on infrastructure. Let's start by freeing up the 407 for toll-free public access or we can all keep sitting still on the 401 for the next 40 years.

They did extend the subway to York region, and then York region refused to pay for the running of the subway, leaving Toronto with the short end of the stick: paying to run a subway to York region that funnels tax dollars out of the city to York region. And now Toronto will likely be stuck paying for the running costs of a new subway to Richmond Hill as well.

Toronto doesn't understand how much money the rest of the country has poured into them and how the valve has been closed now, while we recoup what we can from an ungrateful and corrupt city. Soon as the rest of the country found out they were planning to bring 6 million immigrants to Toronto alone in the next 5 years we decided you can fund it on your own too.
