Sid is so out of his depth outside of sports. Why would Ford add tolls? he was the one to remove tolls and demand no tolls be put on any highways, period.

To be fair, the province has immense power to just ram through Ontario Place even without the city agreeing to not fight it politically. Cities are creatures of the province in Canada, the province owns most of Ontario Place and can expropriate land not just from private citizens but also from municipalities itself.

Yeah but the City could drag things out in court all the way to the Supreme Court even if they know they are going to lose. The goal is to produce the bad media coverage for the province. The fact Ford got Chow to say it is Ontario Place not Toronto Place and the city won’t participate in any further or future legal action on Ontario Place is a huge win for Ford. Chow said it on live tv too.😂

@@Sam19509 The court case would not have reached the supreme court. The city gained nothing from its court arguments about the lastminute halving of city council because it was within the province's power even though it was bad. The city's politicians can still fight it it.

@Sam19509 how would dragging things be beneficial to thw city at all, were 1.5 BILLION into a deficit. Priorities like housing and funding for services should be the main issue and good for Chow to choose her battles. Toronto unfortunately still under the jurisdiction of Ontario there's no way around it. Ford was going to expropriate the land regardless

Exactly this, but Ford would have lost a lot of political brownie points and gained a lot of negative press. This is a premier who cares about headlines. He had a lot of bad ones over the Greenbelt. This is something positive to turn the page, and he knows that uploading the DVP will steamroll all the private interest groups in the court of public opinion. I think this was brilliant negotiating on both ends at the end of the day. Ford gets rid of a big thorn in his side over Ontario Place and comes out looking like a saviour, and Toronto gets the money it needs to get a lot of its key priorities done - things that are way more important than waterfront properties.

@@jenkins5265 lol Ford won big because the NDP and the Liberals always use the Mike Harris boogeyman campaigning against him in the last two elections he won. Ford has clearly differentiated himself from Harris because he actually listens to politicians he disagrees with and has the capacity to change his mind or his position even by a little. It drives hardcore Conservatives nuts but it drives votes to his corner in elections when he is all smiles holding joint press conferences with Trudeau, Freeland, Chow and even Tory before her. Ford just signed the largest provincial funding deal in Toronto's history post amalgamation. He is building the largest Transit expansion for a city in North America with all the shovels in the ground on various projects. Harris stopped construction of the Sheppard subway half way and nixed the Eglinton West Subway project filling in the boared tunnel. Harris cut a bunch of things while Ford has funded a bunch of areas like healthcare, childcare, education and affordable housing to record levels like highest ever. His critics and opponents can whine he is not doing enough or the funding falls behind inflation but the voters are doing the eye test when they see hospitals packed but fully staffed, kids going to fully staffed schools and daycares as well as seeing cranes go up to build new condos and apartments that have affordable housing units with rent geared to income because of inclusionary zoning policies Ford chose not to overide.

The REST of Ontario: You're welcome, Toronto....not that you'd ever THANK us for keeping YOUR taxes down.
What a GREAT country we live in huh, folks ?🤔

Actually, way more of Ontario tax dollars come from Toronto vs the other way around. As the largest populated city with the highest historical incomes, Toronto pays way more in tax dollars. Toronto's tax burden is 9 million a year. Next largest is Ottawa at 3 million.

In 2016 Toronto contributed 20% to Canada’s GDP so yes thank you as it is the largest city and financial hub of the country. Almost all the main head quarters are in Toronto

Great move, at last City Hall will stop humming and hawing about taking the Gardiner down, which would grossly inflate our horrendous traffic woes.

Nobody was going to get everything, and No Ford was not gona give into the pressure , this along the Ontario line is effectively his two main projects he was not gonna give it out. Olivia chow understood otber priorities take precedent , she has effectively avoided economic fallout of services and business given the 1.5 billion deficit .

Maybe that is why he is good at the deal making. He knows he is not the smartest person in the room by a landslide when the goes into these private meetings with Trudeau, Chow, Healthcare execs or corporate execs. Whether you agree or disagree with Ford he is getting shi** done in Ontario. He got the province three separate EV plant deals with Federal funding. He just gave Toronto the biggest provincial funding deal in the City’s history.😂 He also signed deals for Teachers not to strike with multiple unions.😂
