I actually love this patch, it will encourage players to take on the fight more without summons as you arguably gain more benifits with the elden beast, it makes the actual fight engaging and its nice they finally let us use our steed who has been with us through this entire journey, i felt like this should of been day 1 but its still nice to have it at last
My thoughts exactly! It makes this tedious fight arguably more epic and poetic, finishing the game on the back of Torrent, the absolute chad of a mount that quite actually hard carried us throughout the game
Just a little lore note to I think this makes the frenzied flame ending even more impactful in a way (given its focus on torrents whistle) (in the Melina cutscene)
I was literally doing the last boss today. I went to swap to heal and I was like wtf.. I swore you couldn't ride your horse. Had to come on here to see if I was crazy and never knew it.

It would have been cool if they made a different model for Torrent that fight, like him being made of stars as well. Also, a cutscene of Torrent appearing is a big one for me.
You and the advice you gave me were the first things that came to mind when I read the patch notes. I'm sure you've spent an ungodly amount of time optimizing the boss. It helped people like me so it wasn't time wasted. IDK if that's what you meant but thanks man.

I just beaten elden beast and radagon solo a few days ago with moonlight greatsword for my second playthrough..... man this woulda been so good for my first playthrough as I was struggling so badly against him with a faith dex lightning build that I had to summon sadly 😥
This + PCR patch are both very surprising to me, but very welcome. Seems like they definitely listen then. Maybe the PCR patch was a bit too nerfed but I’m still glad the cross slash is better
Having used Torrent for pretty much every overworld tree sentinel or dragon fight I could, fighting Elden Beast with Torrent really felt like the final boss of the horseback combat. None of the other bosses you can fight on horseback chain AoEs and track the player as fast as Elden Beast can, and some attacks are still easier to dodge on foot so I ended up dismounting on my own for the first time in any of these boss fights, so it felt a lot more tactical than most other horseback bosses too. I'm baffled Torrent wasn't originally usable for this fight, because it really feels like he was meant to be all along. Part of me wonders if it was somehow a development oversight. Like, they just forgot to add the flag that lets you use Torrent after you beat Radagon and only realized after they noticed literally everyone was doing "No Torrent Runs" with Elden Beast for two years straight.
Finally! Cannot wait to smash Cosmic Platypus from horseback instead of 15mins chasing it around coz the arena is too damn big, swear this is how it was originally designed but for whatever reason took this long
I think Elden Beast is less fun now, way too easy but you also frustrating since torrent isn't designed around the boss and it attacks that can both be trivial and unavoidable for torrent. The issue with the fight was never that you needed torrent in the first place

Funny story after I heard about this i went to go try it out just to get on torrent to immediately just get killed on him. I still just fight him on foot besides elden stars. Lol
Did they fix the stun lock for torrent? I remember modders did this awhile back and it was horrible because torrent couldnt even jump over the attacks and would also get stun locked to death super quickly. Seems like thats not an issue anymore thankfully!!
Torrent prevents the babyjump issue on the second of triple rings since most people don't know about block animation reset. And how could you gap close fast enough on the fire? I've never seen anyone punish it before outside of the opener version
I appreciate Wave of Gold and Elden Stars being less cancerous, but this is definitely going to make EB completely trivial. Oh by the way, the final boss of the DLC is probably the hardest thing FromSoftware has ever made.

This looks like it can both make the fight too easy and more frustrating. Torrent's speed makes some moves worthless before they can even start, but others cause a 100-to-0 combo, a miserable experience. The slow-paced spectacles are kept off-camera, and the milestone Elden Stars went from pressuring to nothing. Torrent is often rapidly pushed around or gets caught on the Elden Beast's model, trapping players to get hit. Heck, the needles possibly clipping you isn't even new, that was what dodging them was like in the base game, but now you have a decoy health bar to dump that damage into. The galaxy attack was easy to avoid in the first place, and the fire breath, a move by the final boss, is now too free to punish. At the same time, if it does hit, Torrent and the player might get one-shot. The entire fight is at risk of becoming too easy or suddenly OHKO'ing the player, which is generally considered a bad balance in games. This doesn't feel like a measured decision. This feels like when Radahn got severely nerfed to the point where his gravity arrows had almost no tracking whatsoever. At least those nerfs were mostly undone, but Torrent being allowed in or prohibited from a boss fight has no middle ground. It also might take a lot of work to rebalance the entire fight for this option at a time when the entirety of the DLC content brings up potential new issues and things to keep a close watch on.
@@Ghorda9 Those fights were designed to account for Torrent's presence though. This fight was never intended to feature Torrent, so the balance is completely thrown off if Torrent is used. The battle could now be underwhelming or too filled with OHKO combos compared to what the designers actually intended and created.

With Torrent, too many of the Elden Beast's moves might be nigh-useless, yet others may feel overtuned, creating even more extremes for player experiences.
it's way too easy now, I think no torrent was intended after all and they just added it due to all the bitching and moaning. it's less annoying now but also piss easy, I think they should have buffed and tweaked some attacks to relegate torrent into only being viable for gap closing

you can actually jump over the blade attacks you just need to double jump and do it quite early. It's fun af

It won't be possible, players cannot use Torrent in multiplayer in any circumstance
They add that after I just barley beat the elden beast sometimes I just hate elden ring man

you don't have to use torrent for everything, just have the whistle at the ready on the d-pad like with radahn or fire giant
So basically use torrent to close gaps, don't use torrent for close range combat

this isn't dark souls 4, stop projecting like it is. the bosses are fairly different from DS3 bosses and you have a lot more mechanical depth.

Elden Beast has always been easy tbh, it's one of the easier remembrances
We already had a hard ass boss with Radagon let Elden Beast be an epic thematic battle on your horse or just don't use him it's entirely up to you.
