I don't think I've ever seen any sort of guide to UVB lighting for the distance, type of screen, etc. Very in depth and incredibly helpful. Thank you Chief!
Dude, i cant thank you enough for your info. I rescued a 5 yr old (?) beardie and have done so much research and there is so much conflicting information. From "experts" even. Smh. I bought a set up with coil uvb and my baby seemed so ....bleh. I took her outside everyday for an hour for sun and noticed such a difference. So i searched, far and wide, for this arcadia set up (sold out everywhere, pet store doesnt sell, yada yada) and after a week found one and i mean, within an HOUR of setting it up she started to change. I am so happy and excited for her. So now i just need to get a measurement on what shes actually getting, and just checking all the details but i so appreciate your efforts....i swear if you try to look up anything about beardies there are 100000000 answers its so frustrating. Scouring your page for all info ❤
This was INCREDIBLY helpful. As a new beardie parent, I’ve been overwhelmed by all the info about lighting. Thanks for making it super simple to follow!
I’m not a beardie keeper (corn snakes and sand boas are my jam), but I still watch your videos because they’re just so well done, and I still learn enough that I refer your videos to people who do want to keep beardies. Keep up the good work!
I just stumbled across your videos and I must say they are very informational. I have bought so many different lighting fixtures and lights. I might say I am slightly obsessed/worried that I have not given nugget the adequate light he needs. I really appreciate your detailed descriptions of the lighting and enclosure combos. It seems the more I listen the more my head spins. I am not always the sharpest tool in the shed. If you could do me a huge favor and tell me in a dubia 4x2x2 enclosure with a carolina custom cages 35" t5 ho with a 75W heat bulb attached on the end of the fixture mounted inside the enclosure, how far should the dragon be? Also, switching soon to arcadia pro t5 14% 35 in shortly so what would the distance be on that? I appreciate any advice you can give. Thx!
What type of heat lamps would you recommend for daytime ☀️ and nighttime 🌙 use for a New Age Pet® ECOFLEX 48" Large Mojave Reptile Habitat Enclosure for bearded dragons?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Chief :) I'm grateful, as I've been worried that my 7% UVB no screen might be too close to my beardie. Because he loves his basking spot, although he has quite a few to choose from in his bioactive home. Cheers!
Great video!.. How about the min and max distance for the Zilla Fresh Air Screen cover with the Zoo Med 10.0 T5 HO Hood? Trying to get the basking height right. Current basking shelf is 9" and then do you further subtract the height of the dragon? Have that Pet Smart 40 gallon Thrive that I'm replacing. Already got the light. Currently using that plastic hide that comes with it.
Thanks for the video. What is the recommended distance for an arcadia 12% T5 resting on top of a THRIVE screen? Ive heard that these screens can absorb more uvb than others.
Good evening chief. I bought an arcadia e26 bulb while in a hurry . But I only have a standard zoo med double dome fixture. Will it be fine or will it be more of a fire hazard? The bulb seems to be a little wiggly when it's screwed in.
People do not talk about what it means but you need a fan to circulate air and enough water misting the system for this to work well.. Love your inhabitants
Hey, new here. What about when everything should be on\off for day night cycles? Im currently setting up for my 1st baby dragon, and went with a 120 gallon reptizoo tank. I bought a power strip with a built in timer, but not sure if and what needs to stay on at night. thanks bud
Hey man, I’m getting a bearded dragon in July so I’m setting up my tank, I’m actually using your DIY bearded dragon tank videos to build one, I was wondering because I was doing a mesh top that was custom how much UBV does that block and what would be the range for that one? It’s 1/4 inch mesh
What's wild to me is how similar dragons are to people in some ways. We make vitamin d using uvb just like they do. That's part of why so many people are deficient in it. I've been working on my own vitamin d, so making sure my dragon gets it fits right in 😅
That is exactly what I think as well haha. Vitamin D is so important can improve mood for humans and lizards. Sometimes if I’m feeling down I go outside in that bright sun and it feels goood. At the end of the day we are just animals too
Hey chief! I’m a new viewer and am preparing to get my first bearded dragon and recently got some drift wood to use in my terrarium! Just wanted to see if you thought it would be safe for me to use it for my lizard! Thanks!
So, the Arcadia, do you have to buy an additional light bulb? Or is that just with the repti brand? Thank you I’ve need this video so bad 😫 Just ordered his new tank Need the appropriate lamps Pet smart is never any help… ever Thank you
ordered the Zoo Med ReptiSun T5 HO Terrarium Hood, 30" L for a 4x2 but you only mentioned 24" uvb light. Is my product too large for the enclosure? I will be getting a baby bearded dragon for this enclosure
Hey! My friend had a bearded dragon but didnt want her so he gave her to me. she is the size of a baby although she is a year old, her cage was extremely dirty, she didnt have enough water, she only had an infrared light, and she was rarely fed and when she was fed she only got a pinch of pellets. im trying to save her but am not sure what i need and dont know if she is going to get better or not. I am wondering if you could help me save her. Thank You!
Hand feed. Switch to uvb T5 immediately. Give bath to drink water do not pick her up or touch her while drinking. I know it's been two months but I hope everything turned out well.
Great video! I built a 120 gallon based on your diy video. I used 1/4” hardware cloth as you recommended for the screens on top. How much do these screens reduce the UV compared to the ones you listed in this video?
Hey boss just making sure before I make the purchase I got a exoterra glass enclosure 36x12x18 What lightbulb do I go for percentage wise I’m thinking the 14% maybe you can put a link on the reply thanks man and thank. You for your help and all videos all the way from cali right here
Love your channel. Super helpful. I just want to double check. I have a repti zoo 38x24x18 terrarium for our 3 year old female. The people we got her from had the bare minimum for lighting. I have the Arcadia T5 12% 22 inch bulb, should I hang it from inside or have it on top of the metal mesh top?
I love your videos, is very easy to understand you, thank you! I have a question, whats the diference between solarmeter 6.5R and 6.2R. Which one is the best for beared dragon? Sorry for the typos, i dont speak too much english
There is so much info on beardies that I am learning now. I did everything all wrong in the past. Hopefully, with the new one, I will have more knowledge of how to care for one. I have a question I have an open front 40 gal enclosure, and I am planning on getting a baby dragon. I would like to get a 4x2x2 for the dragon, but I am in the process of relocating to a different state. How long can I keep the dragon in the 40-gallons before I upgrade to a 120-gallon? Can I keep the baby in a bioactive enclosure?
Hello! Thanks for all of your videos. I’m getting a bearded dragon soon and currently setting up my enclosure. I have the reptizoo t5 HO 10 24w and have a 40 gallon thrive tank, I am going to sit the uvb light on top of the screen, do you happen to know the inches the basking spot needs to be? I currently have it about 6.5 inches away.
We adopted a beardie that came with the enclosed and all the things. They had a 100w basking bulb but the basking area wasnt getting to temperature. I went and bought a 120w bulb from the hard ware store, but it only last about a week but my beardie was eating more and was way more active with it. I changed it to a 150w zoomed bulb and the bulb blew up. I was very careful and used a cloth so I didn't touch either bulb, but neither of them lasted more than a week. Any suggestions?
Thanks, im still confused on what to get but but have a 21in tall tank, plan to put 3 ins of diy bio substrate. So the bottom would be 18 in away but then there making the basking area. The tank is a 48" x 18" x 21" old aquarium. So would the best pick be the 24 in by 12% bulb arcadia prot5 uvb? We are also putting plants in it and the tank is by a window.
Be careful if the tank is by a window as the rays of the sun might heat the tank up a lot. Also uvb gets blocked by glass so no uvb will come through. I think you’ll be good with the 12%.
Man, I cannot thank you enough for these videos! Apparently we've been doing a lot wrong while we've had ours. Just ordered the light. Arcadia, T5, 24 inch like you said was best. I got the 4x2x2 enclosure set up yesterday & I'm getting the substrate mixed together today. I know I commented on another video yesterday about substrate but I have another question, when i mix the substrate (I'm only doing the topsoil & sand for now, my brain is hurting after all this) can I just put little buddy directly into it? Or do i need to let the substrate sit for a bit in it?
@ChiefSweetsUniverse thank you sm for responding so quickly. I'm worried. We've not had the correct husbandry, I'm watching your other videos now. This is gonna be long, but I need help & you're the ONLY one I have to ask that will answer correctly (sorry). We've had Canaan in a 75 gallon aquarium on textured tile, using the double dome lighting system (total BS I've gotten from the pet store) basking/coil uvb garbage. Now we've gotten the zen habitats 4x2x2 & we're switching to the substrate like I said. I'm sure he's got deficiencies now after watching your videos. How can I make this transition best? He'll more than likely eat the substrate bc of the deficiencies. Should I put the Arcadia light on his enclosure now & wait before moving him to the new one? Should I put him in the new enclosure with the new lighting & hold off of the loose substrate for a bit? You've been very kind to answer my questions & I appreciate it.
The pet store i went to when i bought my beardie only had t8 15 watt uvb lamps. Ive been using t8 on 2 dragons and they seem perfectly healthy. Currently cant afford to switch to t5 but i make sure they have logs to climb up and get closer to the uvb if needed. Also do i have to place the uvb right next to the heat bulb? Because its pretty difficult to place them both together since the basking lamps are big.
Understandable basking lamps are very big they do have to be on the same side. You do want them side by side they don’t have to be that close but just beside each other is fine. T8s are good for shorter cages as they give off weaker rays. So if you are using a 40 gallon tank you will probably be fine but if you are using a 4x2x2 you would need to mount it inside and raise the basking spot so the dragon is pretty close to the uvb
I purchased a 120 gallon. Going to be getting a bearded dragon for my son. I have watched a few of your videos but i have not seen anything about light cycles. The person I bought the enclosure from had timers and black light nighttime heat lights. How long should the lights be on for and should i use the black bulb nighttime lamp?
Do you use bulb grease with your basking bulbs I know this can extend the life of bulbs in your car by preventing arcing bot sure if it would help with basking bulbs but it seems like I am going through the basking bulbs quicker than I should be.
yeah just wondering cause the double din lighting fixtures we use don't seem to be constructed the best and I feel like we have gone through a lot of heat bulbs. @@ChiefSweetsUniverse
Hi. I can't find any information about the power supply, arcadia is UK brand and I think it comes with Europe standars, how do you connect that 220V to 120V in United States? Thank you 😢
They come in regular United States power supplies in the states and the European ones in Europe. The zoo med reptisun t5 10.0 24inch is just as good as Arcadia they sell it at petsmart now.
Hi Chief, unfortunately I can only choose between 26 watt exo terra cfl 5.0 or 10.0 my basking spot for my beardie is 9 to 15 inches away with exo terra 40 gallon screen on top. I would be installing it in a 8 inch deep dome. Would you go with the cfl 10.0 exo terra 150. Or is that too much uvb?
brand new to this thing. My son asked for a Bearded Dragon for Christmas, i see the lights sitting on top of the screen cover on top of the tank. The screen can withstand the heat? It wont catch on fire or damage it? Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Yes the screen withstands the heat. Now some have plastic bars for some reason if it’s close to that it will melt the plastic but as long as it’s not touching the plastic and just sitting on the metal it’s perfectly fine and no worries
Go join reptile lighting! You can get accurate info on distance. Arcadia under screen 16 to 20 inches away but on top of screen will depend on enclosure you have
since i’m using a cabinet to mount my uvb fixture “t5 10 zoomed” would i need to buy a reflector to produce enough uvb for my dragon. Its mounted inside
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse I bought the fixture and a 10.0 just to find a 10.0 inside.. should have read the box more closely! 😂😂 happy we can get a option for them straight out of the box finally tho!
@@ChiefSweetsUniverseSo i have the dubia roaches 120g tank, would a 14% 24" arcadia, 2- 75w basking bulbs on top of screen be a good lighting option? I live in Los angeles, Ca so thats my type of weather
Thank you for this video, it was very informative. I do have a question. I purchased an arcadia t5 14% tube for my bearded dragon. I initially wanted to get the 12% but was told that the 14% would be better. My tank is 60cm tall and my beardie is never closer than 13" to the light, so this is fine. However, I was encouraged to get the 39 watt light rather than the 24 watt that I originally wanted. The seller, also an experienced reptile breeder, said that the tube should span close to full length of my tank (100cm at present). It's all already installed, but I'm worried upon watching your video as you say to only cover half the tank with the uvb tube. Is it dangerous for my beardie if I leave it as is? I'll be upgrading to a 120cm long tank when my beardie reaches full size and I suppose the 39 watt will be fine then.
So you’ll be fine with it spanning the whole tank just offer places for him to hide and he will be good. The reason we do half is so that way we can mimic when they hide under bushes from the sun and such.
Hey i have an issue that i hope you can shed some light on with my bearded dragon. About a month and a half ago i changed my bearded dragon's cage, now please understand I didn't really know much about bearded dragons when I bought one like most casuals and Adam in a 2x2x1 aquarium tank for about 3 years. I started looking up different cages and then I went down to rabbit hole with how big a fully grown bearded dragon tank size should be and I was horrified to read what i have been doing to my litte friend. So I immediately jumped on Amazon. Got a 120 gallon tank, new substrate consisting of coconut mixed with walnut sand without calcium. I started with a new substrate first and his old tank to let him get use to it It seems like he was acting much better. Then after changing to the bigger tank he doesnt move much anymore. He doesnt try and find food or do anything really. I get so worried about him after a day or so that I forcefully pick him up and put them next to his food bowl and let him sit there. If I don't come back and pick him back up and put him at his basking spot he won't do it he just lays there and well till i come a pick him back up and put him back in his basking spot. The tank is well heated. I have a decent UVB bulb and his basking spot is 100° (we tried 115. It was just way too hot for him and he never sat in that spot). No, when it first everything changed. I understood. He probably just needed some time to settle in and kind of get used to it. It gave him a few weeks and still this is been an issue from day one when we got him into the new tank and we have gotten ride of the old tank. Could you help me? And maybe explain what is going on with my beardie? I'm so worried about him and of i am not around for most of the day I can't pick him up and put them into his food area so he can eat. In this worries me beyond belief.
Can you try getting the basking spot to 105f he could be really comfortable now because dragons are like cats when they are comfortable they pretty much chill. When you show him food like a live insect does he get excited and jump for it if so sounds like he’s doing ok
Hey mate i just got a beared dragon and i need alot of help im stressing out because my tank is huge 4 x 2x2 and their is a wooden roof and i cant cut holes so i have them dangling down and i think its too much for him can u help me please
No for that size you would need a Arcadia 6% but you do need to upgrade the tank and it would just be a hassle to use the 6% upgrade and spend more money on the 12%. However if you do get the 12% you could just raise the lamp higher and it will work I have a video on how high that would need to be. It’s called bearded dragon uvb guide ua-cam.com/video/ghkmBnCHpZc/v-deo.htmlsi=kvTsFxTKlSQlrsKa
I want those branches you got so mine can bask soon i wish there was a way to contact you im setting mine up before i bring my dragon home she is an adult and im trying to make the best for her . If you got a contact info and you see this please let me contact you cheers and thanks for the amazing info 🙏🏻
There is two different methods one is punching 4 holes in the screen and zip tie through the mesh and make a loop put the t5 through that. Zen habitats made a guide and others have some too I’ll make a video on it very soom
You can get these for like half the price at a lowes or home depot in the garden center never buy the actual brand name tube lights. They are shit and way overpriced
You can’t get the same quality uvb out of the ones at Home Depot and Lowe’s. Heat bulb yes 10000% buy heat bulbs from Home Depot or Lowe’s. Actually better quality. Uvb I’ve tested which is a lot are trash. The only good ones are super few and all reptile brands
I don't think I've ever seen any sort of guide to UVB lighting for the distance, type of screen, etc. Very in depth and incredibly helpful. Thank you Chief!

Should I put him in the new enclosure with the new lighting & hold off of the loose substrate for a bit? You've been very kind to answer my questions & I appreciate it.
Planning on getting a baby leather back. Is lighting the same for them? I'm guessing it is. Nevertheless this was a life saver😅
Congratulations 🎉 yes lighting is the same for them as well
The pet store i went to when i bought my beardie only had t8 15 watt uvb lamps.
Holy moly. What a nice vid.
Thank you very much
Is a uvb 10.0 good and I was also wondering if I could bring my bearded dragon outside for a little while would that help at all
The t5 10.0 is great but outside sun is amazing as well! Just be careful he doesn’t shoot off and escape!
If i have a 5x2.5x2.3 (it’s diy) should i get the Arcadia pro t5 39w 14% or 24w this is with a metal mesh at the top
you are very very helpful! thank you
legend
Thank you 😊
How many inches do you think I should put my uvb it’s a zoo med t5 ho 10.0 34inch 39watt.
Light cycles follow the same light as the suns. Lights on when the sun comes up lights off when it goes down. No light at night.
is there anything specific that you use when cleaning the cage with your sand/topsoil substrate setup? i saw a person that uses diluted Chlorhexidine.
Hey man it would be cool if you look at our encloses for a vid and comment on them what could be good or bad why and why not etc.
Yeah that would be dope
Do you use bulb grease with your basking bulbs I know this can extend the life of bulbs in your car by preventing arcing bot sure if it would help with basking bulbs but it seems like I am going through the basking bulbs quicker than I should be.
Oh that’s interesting idk but you have now got me looking into that
yeah just wondering cause the double din lighting fixtures we use don't seem to be constructed the best and I feel like we have gone through a lot of heat bulbs.

@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Thanks you very much
Definitely subbed for a reason. Great videos. What was that Facebook info please. Thank you broski
Thank you so much!!
Happy to help!
Does the Arcadia t5 from reptile basics come with a bulb? And if so is it the correct one or do I have to get a stronger bulb just like the zoo med
Yes it does. The prot5 kit comes with everything you need the one you want is either the 12% or 14%
Do you have any videos about hygiene/wash for bearded dragons
I think they can only be cleaned in water like natural spring water. No chemicals and keep water shallow for safety
It’s actually a zoo med 40 gallon with screen on top not exo terra. 36x18x18
Will a 12 inch 10 UVB bulb be sufficient in a 40g and then a 120g?
No go with a 24 inch
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse That was a super fast response thank you!! I got the 24" instead.
What about a ReptiSun?
I have an Eco Flex 4x2x2
Is this the same as the Zoo Med?
Yes reptisun is the zoo med
Can you recommend halogen lights/incandescent lights for a 120 gallon tank? I can’t find Par38 lights and I don’t know which one to get :(
Yes I use these amzn.to/3QniVFm
36 × 12 × 18 i picked up a Arcadia 6% will that be good enough
brand new to this thing.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse definitely appreciate the info! This video was externally helpful and informative bro!! Thanks a million!
@@KingYorch08 happy to help!
I am in the process building my 4x2x2 enclosure what Arcadia you recommend like watts and percentage and I am mounting it inside no top screen
Go join reptile lighting! You can get accurate info on distance. Arcadia under screen 16 to 20 inches away but on top of screen will depend on enclosure you have
So what do you do with the 5.0 bulbs that are included with reptisun hoods?
I use them for my chameleons or other lizards that use 5.0. If you have one animal you could sell it on Facebook
since i’m using a cabinet to mount my uvb fixture “t5 10 zoomed” would i need to buy a reflector to produce enough uvb for my dragon. Its mounted inside
Yes if your t5 fixture doesn’t have a reflector definitely get one.
would a sun blaster uvb fixture be better than a repti zoo one? they are both similar priced
Zoo med is now selling a kit with the 10.0 t5 also!!!
They are! I’m so happy and it’s in petsmart and petco now which is awesome!
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse I bought the fixture and a 10.0 just to find a 10.0 inside.. should have read the box more closely! 😂😂 happy we can get a option for them straight out of the box finally tho!
@@Redfoxsurron yes that was a recent change maybe zoo med saw my video but I’ve been wanting this for so long I’m so happy they finally changed it
What website do you purchase your Arcadia kit/bulb from? I'm afraid of any sketchy websites.
I use reptile basics and Pangea reptile

Um I have the Toxi Rium 120 gallon tank and I was wondering how to set it up
I have a t5 14% arcadia should i put it on top of the 4x2x2 enclosure or inside?
If it’s on top of screen usually minimum is 7 inches away from that screen
@@ChiefSweetsUniverseSo i have the dubia roaches 120g tank, would a 14% 24" arcadia, 2- 75w basking bulbs on top of screen be a good lighting option? I live in Los angeles, Ca so thats my type of weather
Yo chief, Can u pls make a care guide for ball python? thx
Oh yeah definitely will
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse thx bro ur the best
Hey I know that you might not see this comment but would a 35" uvb t5 12% be fine for a 4x2x2
Yeah that would be fine
What’s a good UVB for a 20 gallon ?
Zoo med 5.0 t5 uvb 24 inch
Is it okay if i use a zoo med 34” for a 48 inch eco flex enclosure?
Yeah that’s fine
Do you own any ball pythons? I wish i found find videos as informative as these for them
I do! Working on some ball python content as we speak
Thanks for the quick replies your channels a big help
Which one would you recommend for 36x18x18?
Arcadia 12%
What about if it’s on top of the match?
Depends on the mesh I have another guide for different mesh screens
Also you can join my discord and we can message on there easier
Great video!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much!
Where did you get your UVB reader gadget?
Got it here: amzn.to/48ffEP8
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse you really paid $200+ for it? 🥲
I'll get it nonetheless. I really want to make sure my new beardie is getting what he needs.
So do they not also need an LED light??? That’s what I’m trying to figure out.
I use led for all of mine. It’s not mandatory but it’s extremely beneficial
What is good for 20gallon the T5 covers my whole enclosure
If you have the t5 on a 20 gallon use a weaker uvb bulb like the 5.0 reptisun or the 6% Arcadia
Hey mate i just got a beared dragon and i need alot of help im stressing out because my tank is huge 4 x 2x2 and their is a wooden roof and i cant cut holes so i have them dangling down and i think its too much for him can u help me please

i have a 20 gallon tank for a juvenile beardie. can i still get him the Arcadia T5 12% UVB ??
No for that size you would need a Arcadia 6% but you do need to upgrade the tank and it would just be a hassle to use the 6% upgrade and spend more money on the 12%. However if you do get the 12% you could just raise the lamp higher and it will work I have a video on how high that would need to be. It’s called bearded dragon uvb guide ua-cam.com/video/ghkmBnCHpZc/v-deo.htmlsi=kvTsFxTKlSQlrsKa

I have a recent upload on how to setup a tank from petsmart for a bearded dragon. In that video I show it
Do you have any reptiles your looking to adopt out im looking to join the hobby and want to look for reptiles?
I do not have any
What about a thrive screen top?
Thrive is a lot thicker around 50% blockage. Minimum 12 inches away from screen.
@ChiefSweetsUniverse what is the max inches away since the BD min basking spot is 12inches
If my enclosure is only 12in tall what % lightbulb do I get
6% Arcadia or 5.0 zoo med t5
So definitely not 12 or 14%
And thanks for replying your videos have helped a lot all the way from cali!!

I have a discord in the description
does anyone know how to mount an arcadia proT5 inside of the dubia 4x2x2 enclosure?
There is two different methods one is punching 4 holes in the screen and zip tie through the mesh and make a loop put the t5 through that. Zen habitats made a guide and others have some too I’ll make a video on it very soom

A baby specifically
Yeah for a baby it’ll be ok just expect to upgrade later down the line
Ok thank you
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse so sorry one more question which UV light would be a perfect percentage for a 55 gallon tank for my baby bearded dragon
@@beliciasmith5906 arcadia 12% should be good
So… what uvb do you use for your bearded dragons? I’m very confused if the 12% is better than the 14% or vice-versa. So I can know which one to get
I use both it all depends on height. How far away the dragon is away from the uvb. One of my tanks have 14% and another has 12%
Ok thank you
Theres a girl who said uvb and uva needs to be throughout the whole enclosure.
Only needs to be half.
hi
Hi
this is alot other video easyer to follow
Haha yeah it gets complicated talking uvb and proper height for appropriate levels
