No worries it is a lot at first. So much info thrown at you all that matters is a enclosure with heat and uvb. Uvb should be an Arcadia 12% t5 ho 24 inch for 18 inch enclosures on top of screen or a 14% Arcadia t5 ho for 24 inch tall enclosures on top of screen

i have the double dome fixture thts 100 watts max on each side. can i run two 75 watt 55 par30 halogen flood lights or is one good enough for my dragon?
I wanted to say thank you for the lighting tips. My bearded dragons seemed so lazy until I decided to add the LED lighting and now they are more active. Also, thanks for the UVB info.
thank you so much for recommending the solarmeter! my bearded dragon got sick and i didn't know. but when i bought the solarmeter i found out that the UVB bulb are completely useless even though it was new one. i took my bearded dragon to the vet and got better now but i also changed the bulb to a uvb tube light one from exo terra. it works like a charm. the solarmeter might have been expensive but its really useful. it even helps me finding the right angle on where to setup the uvb tube light.

Hey man, really great and informative video and I just have a quick question. At 10:27 you are showcasing your light setup for your bearded dragon, but shouldn't the uvb be spread across the entire tank so that the reptile is constantly getting the uvb? Otherwise would they not be susceptible to metabolic bone disease?
You can however just like outside they need to take cover from the sun and go places that don’t have uvb. The basking zone is where they go to get that heat and uvb. They will spend most time there. As long as you provide the right diet and uvb. MBD will not be a factor. So you don’t need the entire cage to have uvb. Because the time they spend in the basking zone will be more than enough to get the uvb they need. However if you don’t have the right bulb for uvb then it won’t matter how much the cage is covered they will get uvb. hi, im building a bearded dragons enclosure and im going to have a hardware cloth top and its going to be 4x2x2 120 gallon i would like to have it on top of the cages and not mounted inside what would you recommend? also do i need two heat lamps, i was thinking about doing one heat lamp 100w with a dimmer and a led light on the opposite side for lighting. please lmk !
I would do two heat lamps. I have the exact setup with a 120 gallon on top of hardware cloth. I have to use two 100 watt bulbs to reach the desired temp. And a led light on the other end to brighten it up 😁
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse okay thank you, do u have a recommended substrate. i was thinking of doing play sand and coconut coir but I've heard a lot about impaction. but on the other end I've heard having tile in there tank for there whole life cant give them joint problems.
I have that double zoo med 1 you were talking about with a 150wat basking light. And 10.0 uvb. For a 20 gallon. It’s a juvenile bearded dragon. Is that fine for now until I upgrade to a 50 gallon
@ChiefSweetsUniverse Hi Chief. I just received my lumenize uv light fixture for my bearded dragon. I know you mentioned switching your fixtures to these in a another video. Any chance you could provide your settings for the sunrise and sunset with the times and intensity settings? It would be greatly appreciated if you have the time. Thanks for all your videos. Very informative for everyone.
Hi do you own any Henry Lawson lizard? If so could you give information about them including how to set up there tanks. I've got one and have got a ceramic heat emitter an a tube pro t5 uvb light (all this was recommended from reptile shop). And they said that's all I need. An then I've got the thermostat with a temperature probe.
My bearded dragon gots mbd I asked “petco” everything I’d need for the lizard and they picked everything out for me so I did some research and realized the bulbs they gave me was 1 night time bulb “red” and 1 uva heat bulb!! So this entire time my lizard has not been able to get the nutrients that she needs and I’m very upset I have now gotten the uvb light and I’m hoping the symptoms will subside she can hardly use her back legs right now… she’s not even a year old so I hope I can help her before it’s too late thanks for the information btw 😮
It’s just how tall a 2 foot cage is it’s very hard to hit the proper temps especially when you have open top cages. Heat escapes. So that’s the reason for 2
I have the 120 gal ReptileHabitats enclosure from dubiaroaches and the 12% from Arcadia rn. I’ve been trying to figure out how to mount the lamp inside because the lid is pretty thick, but I can’t figure out a safe way. What would you recommend? Cheers
Man your videos have been so helpful! Quick question, I got the Arcadia lamp per your suggestion and have one of those 40 gallon zooMed petsmart enclosures. I was wondering if I put the light bar straight across the thank, some of it is blocked off by that middle plastic like in your video at 9:14. Would the plastic melt? Or am I good running it like this. Thanks in advance!
Yeah the uvb shouldn’t melt it as it only gets about 90f. Just make sure the middle of the bulb is not blocked that’s the strongest uvb rays. So the middle of the uvb shouldn’t be blocked. The ends of the uvb is weaker so that’s ok
Yes you may need up to 3 heat lamps and a 3ft uvb bar instead of the 2ft one. Other than that same sort of stuff really just making it larger basking areas due to the enclosure being larger
When mounting the Arcadia 12% what is the measurement needed from the light to dragons back? You showed the distance for the coil bulb to get proper reading but didn’t show the arcadia
Oh I have a entire video on exact distance for each of the uvb bulbs including the Arcadia 12% in a newer updated lighting guide here How to Setup Bearded Dragon lights! Bearded Dragon lighting Guide ua-cam.com/video/ghkmBnCHpZc/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for all the info. I never thought to add an extra light for brightness. I did mount my arcadia t5 12% on the inside of my dubia 120 gallon enclosure. I hope that's right. I can not afford that ubv meter.
Yeah I like two led I have mine setup with one zoo med 100 watt heat bulb, Arcadia 14% t5 24 inch uvb, led daylight strip on the hot side and one led daylight strip on the cool side
I use par38 flood lights for my screen top enclosures and par 30 50 watt equivalent flood lights on my closed top enclosures. However they are discontinued now due to a green energy bill so I’m gonna have to switch to zoomeds repti basking bulb. 100 watts for screen enclosures and 50 watts for closed tops
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse so I just bought a 75w led bulb for my baby blood red dragon I purchased last Thursday. Immediately, I'm noticing more movement from him. Was worried because he wasn't eating, but now he's eating the crickets and running all over the enclosure. Hopefully that's a good thing.
My local pet stores only have zoo med reptisuns. Most are 10.0 UVB, but how many watts should i do for a 40 gallon tank? And i have a 100 watt basking bulb, that will do right?
Hey man I’m having a hard time with getting the uvb light directly on his basking spot mainly because the halogen dome is so big/wide that when I use my meter the proper uvb is a little bit to the side of the basking spot. He does have more branches to climb on in the middle of the tank which has excellent uvb reedings. Do you think this is sufficient? 40gal tank for now both basking and uvb lights on top of the screen.
Any tips? I have the zen habitat enclosure it’s a 4x2x2 and I’m having a hard time with my temps on his basking side I have the 100 watt flood light on top screen but it seems cold still and he doesn’t seem interested in his food much I’m guessing cause he’s kinda on the cold side any tips?? New to the hobby btw so everything helps
No worries so the zen because it is a open top enclosure the heat escapes so quickly what I do with open tips is I have to use two lamps and up the wattage. Now during summer I only have to use two 75 watt halogen heat lamps
I really need help, I got a better understanding from your vid but I have a 40 gallon tank and I need help on lighting, rn I don’t know what to get for lighting at all please help and lmk what lighting I need for my 40 gallon tankb
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse THANK YOU SO MUCH I watch you all the time you inspired me to get a bearded dragon so now I’m just gonna do my best to get that. Gotta come up with the extra money lol☺️
i want to use an Arcadia light for my beardie does it matter what kind of fixture i use for the bar light? Or does it have to be a specific one? I have a 40 gallon tank atm with a mesh top what Arcadia light do you recommend for that? 12 or 14% ? Your video is very informational and has helped me alot in seeing what i need to change. I’ve been using coil lights and i didn’t know about them until watching this video. Thank you ❤
No I switched to Pangea reptile t5 bars because they were the cheapest. Don’t use repti zoo bars I’ve heard bad things about them. Get the 12% light. I’m glad I could help.
Yes that’s good because the dragon will sit where the heat is and since the uvb is there he will sit under uvb as well. However I do recommend halogen bulbs over ceramic heat emitters. You still can use the heat emitter It’s just my opinion
This is so helpful! So I have a 4x2x2 coming in the mail and I would like to put the UVB on top if possible. Can I use a 14% UVB bulb on top of the screen? How close would the basking spot need to be?
@@ChiefSweetsUniversethis includes through the mesh correct? i like to use the reptisun bulbs and fixtures becauxe i just think they're higher quality so i have a t5 5.0 for now, getting a 10.0 from amazon. i have heard that most bearded dragons can withstand up to uvb index 7.0 as long as they have places to hide, but some leather or silk back dragons have more delicate skin which makes uvb index more important. does that sound right to you?
@10:29 the labeled overview picture of your enclosure. What is the light that’s not labeled? And is it recommended?? Thank you so much your content is so informative!!
Oh ok thank you so much! So that’s just another halogen light there? I have a 4x2x2 enclosure but have not got a dragon yet! I have to make sure it’s perfect first!😂
For “nighttime” within an enclosure I know that the LED lamp should be off and the Heat lamp still on but dimmed slightly but what about the UVB lamp ?
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Thank you, I’ve been watching a bunch of videos and none of them have discussed this aspect, is there a good method to maintain heat within an enclosure with the heat lamp off ?
@@edgyboiklaus as long as its not below 60f then you dont have to worry but if it does get cold then you can use a deep heat projector or a ceramic heat emitter
quick question! i have a 40 gallon breeder tank and i dont know what kind of uvb or heating source i need to use. what would be the best options for me?
I am planning on getting a bearded dragon pretty soon. I saw the Arcadia 12% pack you recommended but I don’t know where to get replacement bulbs from. I’m also wondering what would be best for a tank that is 17 inches tall.
I think I messed up…I ordered the Arcadia Prot T5 Uvb Kit 48", 14% Dragon. I have a 3ft x 1.5 x 1.5 (Thrive double front door opening) and I’m adding on top a 4ft x 1.6 x 18.5 (wood build) Anyway I can use this light as it would be crazy expensive (shipping) to send back 🤦♀️
Hi i ordered a 36” light fixture for the uv in my 120 gallon tank. is this too big? i have a dubia enclosure but i’m not sure if i should put the uv light on the mesh or mount it on the inside. his banking spot is on a rock that’s about as high as half the tank that’s why i’m worried on if the uv should be on mounted on the inside or on top. and idk if i should get 12% or 14%. thanks!
36inch is perfectly fine. If his rock is pretty high up for basking it’s ok to keep it on top of the mesh. If it was. Ground level I would mount on the inside. You can get the 12% since you said it’s about halfway high even if mounted on the mesh it should have good enough uvb for that
hi i have a bearded dragon he is 6years old i just purchased a 120gal and i cant seem to get the basking side hot enough do you have any tips? i currently have like 3 different basking lights on one side then a uvb light (the one you said not to have) on the other side. can you please help me
Do you have 100watt bulbs for the basking side. I use two lamps that are 100 watt repti basking bulbs and it gets hot enough even with my air conditioning.
so I'm about to get a bearded dragon and my uvb will be inside the cage, it's custom built. what levels should the uvb be since it's not being filtered by any screens. I have the same uvb sensor you have? I'm using the t8 10.0 zoomed
you're pretty knowledgeable with reptiles but I get confused with supplements for bearded dragons. since I have a uvb I should use the calcium powder, and calcium powder with vitamins without d3?
Thanks for the video, very informative. Brand new to this as we just got our new girl Merlin. Question we have a 40 gal Thrive habit with the the two round UVB (CF) and heat lights. Our beardie is around 1yr old, how do you recommend we upgrade our lights given we will eventually be in a 120 gallon 4x2x2 in another 6months or so. The basking rock is in the corner and 11 inches from the top of the mesh top. Was thinking the 14.0 arcadia that is 24inches long or do you think the 12 inch length is ok? Thanks.
It really depends on if you are getting the right temps. If you are getting the right temps. It’s perfect if it’s going past 115f on the basking spot lower it to 100watt
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse as of right now her temps are 90 to 100 with 20% humidity. I've started following your guide to build a bigger enclosure. I hope I don't mess up!
So in the terrarium we bought, they gave us a lighting fixture that says “uvb/uva reptile light” and it also says “heating lamp 25w/50w bulb” is this ok or…?
Hey man would you know by any chance about how much uvb my bearded dragon would have with a 10.0 t5 on top of a mesh enclosure 40 gallons? I know the uvb is cut in a percentage
If it’s a zoo med he will have a great reading very similar to the Arcadia I tested in the video. so 5.0 around a 9 inch basking spot and low 3s on the ground

If I may ask, what kind of Clamp light do you use for the PHILIPS 428805 Halogen PAR38 90 Watt Equivalent Dimmable Flood Standard Base Light Bulbs?

hi, im building a bearded dragons enclosure and im going to have a hardware cloth top and its going to be 4x2x2 120 gallon i would like to have it on top of the cages and not mounted inside what would you recommend? also do i need two heat lamps, i was thinking about doing one heat lamp 100w with a dimmer and a led light on the opposite side for lighting. please lmk !
@@qxeen6919 yeah I use top soil and play sand. Coconut coir can be dusty.
Question man, is there a way I can put both the UVB & UVA Heat in the long Bar type of Light Bulb? Have both of them on top
I have that double zoo med 1 you were talking about with a 150wat basking light. And 10.0 uvb. For a 20 gallon. It’s a juvenile bearded dragon. Is that fine for now until I upgrade to a 50 gallon
7:48 - what kind of a vine branch is that and where can I get a thick one to support the width of an adult bearded dragon's body?
Mine online Pangea reptile
Can I use two led floods and heat the other side too. 4x2x2 enclosure
The LED floodlights don’t produce any heat you can use them to brighten the cage for sure. But you only want to heat one side of the tank
Almost couldn't concentrate on what you were saying, because if Bubba is in the video, Bubba steals the video
Thank you Jen! Yeah they steal the show always. Bubba is so big now 19 inches long!
So sorry to hear that! This is a very common situation when having petco help with what you need
Honestly it’s kinda messed up how the uvb measurer costs so much because companies know they have no choice but to buy
I feel that so much.
is the reason for putting 2 par38 floodlights to reach the proper temperature or can that just be done with one floodlight?
Hi man, thanks for the info. Im looking at a 5ft/6ft tanks so a bit larger than the one you showed. Will I need any additional lighting for this?
Yes you may need up to 3 heat lamps and a 3ft uvb bar instead of the 2ft one. Other than that same sort of stuff really just making it larger basking areas due to the enclosure being larger
Do you use ultraviolet light at night? Wjat lighting do you use at night?
No lights at night
Is an led daylight 100 watt equivalent medium base dimmable light okay too? It says brightness is 1600 lumens?
Yes that’s great
Hello love your videos you helped a lot with my new 2 month old dragon. Do you recommend putting a Arcadia 12.0 24 in. inside the tank ?
Yeah that works just make sure it’s 12 inches away. Any closer than 12 inches is too much
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse thank you very much ! Will do !
Bearded Dragon lighting Guide
ua-cam.com/video/ghkmBnCHpZc/v-deo.html
Thank you so much for all the info. I never thought to add an extra light for brightness. I did mount my arcadia t5 12% on the inside of my dubia 120 gallon enclosure. I hope that's right. I can not afford that ubv meter.
Yeah I would recommend mounting inside dubias enclosure so you did it correct! I understand about the uvb meter it’s so expensive.
Hey I have a question, I just got the 120g zen habitats enclosure… how did you mount the uvb on the inside?
I got the Arcadia lighting set up and online for a replacement there is the Arcadia D3 12%, js that okay to use ? Thanks
Yes that’s it. Make sure it’s the same length as the fixture you have as well
The zoomed light is 33 in long & my tank is only 36 in long. It’s recommending the 39w but it’s gonna be too long for the enclosure
If you look around they sell them as small as 14 inches.
Can you do a video on screen tops vs solid tops...what's your preference, is one better then the other?
Yes working on that video now
Hello! Sorry I'm a late, I wanted to know how many of the LED lights you need for a 120 Gallon tank? I assume two but just want to make sure.
Yeah I like two led I have mine setup with one zoo med 100 watt heat bulb, Arcadia 14% t5 24 inch uvb, led daylight strip on the hot side and one led daylight strip on the cool side
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse
I just got one today do I cut the lights off at night
Yes all lights off at night
What do you use for the flood lights? I see the lamp on ur Amazon list but not the diameter
What do you recommend for night heating? Would you use a ceramic heat bulb? Or just shut all lights off?
Shut all the lights off. They will be fine unless it’s like 32f in the house lol
I had a feeling that coil/cone wasn't doing jack for my enclosure. Going back to the tube 🤦🏾♂️
Yeah unfortunately it is terrible
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse so I just bought a 75w led bulb for my baby blood red dragon I purchased last Thursday. Immediately, I'm noticing more movement from him. Was worried because he wasn't eating, but now he's eating the crickets and running all over the enclosure. Hopefully that's a good thing.
My local pet stores only have zoo med reptisuns. Most are 10.0 UVB, but how many watts should i do for a 40 gallon tank?
And i have a 100 watt basking bulb, that will do right?
Yes that’s perfect you can try 75 watts if your house is a little warm.
Hey cheif what are your thoughts on using a blue led bulb to help light up the cool side? I just thought it could look cool?
Colored lights are dangerous to their eye site from what I read so you wanna stay away from them
Is there anywhere you can find a quality uvb meter for a less expensive price
Unfortunately no. They pretty much have a monopoly on it so that’s the cheapest
Ok so just to confirm, to replicate this lighting setup I'll need a basking bulb, UVB tubular bulb, floodlight, and a "regular" light bulb?
Uvb tube bulb, led daylight bulb, and the floodlight will be the basking light.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse gotcha, thank you!! 😊
Hi, what if in my country they dont sell those long uvb tubes and just a regular exo terra 150w uvb bulb, would that work too for a 4x2x2 enclosure?
I haven’t tested it myself but I do know the zoomed mega compact 65 watt is very good
Do you leave the lights on all night as well?
No all lights off at night
Hey man I’m having a hard time with getting the uvb light directly on his basking spot mainly because the halogen dome is so big/wide that when I use my meter the proper uvb is a little bit to the side of the basking spot. He does have more branches to climb on in the middle of the tank which has excellent uvb reedings. Do you think this is sufficient? 40gal tank for now both basking and uvb lights on top of the screen.
I know what you mean as long as he does climb and bask on the branches with the proper uvb he will be good
SORRY, IF 60CM X 40 x 40high use Arcadia 23W UVB is danger?
Arcadia T5 12% 24W UV-B is good for that
Do you put the light bar on the inside or outside of the tank? If so what do you use to hang it?
Working on that video right now showing how to do that and why
Can I put UVB on top of screen? My little guy baby stopped eating but he's shedding is that normal?
Yes very normal. You totally can put it on top of screen
Hello I got a question so i just got a bearded dragon and I got a Arcadia ShadeDweller ProT5 UVB Kit is that good
No that is meant for animals who don’t really come out during the day. Wayyy too weak you want the Arcadia 12% or zoo med reptisun t5 10.0 24 inch

i want to use an Arcadia light for my beardie does it matter what kind of fixture i use for the bar light? Or does it have to be a specific one? I have a 40 gallon tank atm with a mesh top what Arcadia light do you recommend for that? 12 or 14% ?
Your video is very informational and has helped me alot in seeing what i need to change. I’ve been using coil lights and i didn’t know about them until watching this video. Thank you ❤
No I switched to Pangea reptile t5 bars because they were the cheapest. Don’t use repti zoo bars I’ve heard bad things about them. Get the 12% light. I’m glad I could help.
For my enclosure I have a UVB bulb and a ceramic heat lamp next to eachother. Is this recommended?
Yes that’s good because the dragon will sit where the heat is and since the uvb is there he will sit under uvb as well. However I do recommend halogen bulbs over ceramic heat emitters. You still can use the heat emitter It’s just my opinion
This is so helpful! So I have a 4x2x2 coming in the mail and I would like to put the UVB on top if possible. Can I use a 14% UVB bulb on top of the screen? How close would the basking spot need to be?
Thank you 🙏 on top of screen I would say around 12 inches away from basking spot
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Thank you so much!!!
@@deanmoser8788 yes very true. Max 7.4. Don’t have to cover the entire enclosure with uvb just the basking spot as well
Am I supposed to get two UBV lights because the one I bought doesn't work

Hi with your 12% UVB Arcadia T5, what distance do you want that from the basking spot, mounted inside the cage (no mesh top).
No mesh top it will be about 15 inches away from basking spot

@@ChiefSweetsUniverse Thank you, I’ve been watching a bunch of videos and none of them have discussed this aspect, is there a good method to maintain heat within an enclosure with the heat lamp off ?
@@edgyboiklaus as long as its not below 60f then you dont have to worry but if it does get cold then you can use a deep heat projector or a ceramic heat emitter
Is the Arcadia 12% or 14% on top of the enclosure better for a 36x18x18 or inside the enclosure? Which would you recommend?
I would say the 12% would be better that way if you have a basking spot you don’t have to worry about super high levels of uvb.
Oh ok so 12% for the top of the screen correct?
quick question! i have a 40 gallon breeder tank and i dont know what kind of uvb or heating source i need to use. what would be the best options for me?

They do not. Mainly because they will try and eat them 😂
I am planning on getting a bearded dragon pretty soon. I saw the Arcadia 12% pack you recommended but I don’t know where to get replacement bulbs from. I’m also wondering what would be best for a tank that is 17 inches tall.
12% would be best. Replacement bulbs can be bought at reptile basics website or Pangea reptile websites

Yes. Morning to nighttime. When the sun comes up lights come on when it goes down I turn mine off

Anyway I can use this light as it would be crazy expensive (shipping) to send back 🤦♀️
The thrive screen top is the at thick metal screen so it’s actually perfect cause that screen is gonna block like half the uvb making it perfect
Also if you are adding a top wood build it would also be ok since it’s gonna be a tall enclosure
What about night time do u turn lights off or replace them with CHE?
Yeah night time all lights are off. It gets cool at night in the deserts so they will be fine as long as it’s big 40f in your house lol
Hi i ordered a 36” light fixture for the uv in my 120 gallon tank. is this too big? i have a dubia enclosure but i’m not sure if i should put the uv light on the mesh or mount it on the inside. his banking spot is on a rock that’s about as high as half the tank that’s why i’m worried on if the uv should be on mounted on the inside or on top. and idk if i should get 12% or 14%. thanks!
it’s a T5
36inch is perfectly fine. If his rock is pretty high up for basking it’s ok to keep it on top of the mesh. If it was. Ground level I would mount on the inside. You can get the 12% since you said it’s about halfway high even if mounted on the mesh it should have good enough uvb for that
thank you so much!
hi i have a bearded dragon he is 6years old i just purchased a 120gal and i cant seem to get the basking side hot enough do you have any tips? i currently have like 3 different basking lights on one side then a uvb light (the one you said not to have) on the other side. can you please help me

so I'm about to get a bearded dragon and my uvb will be inside the cage, it's custom built. what levels should the uvb be since it's not being filtered by any screens. I have the same uvb sensor you have? I'm using the t8 10.0 zoomed
I have not tested the t8 but I know it produces less uvb than the t5 it’ll be ok to put it in the inside without screens.
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse ok thanks, yeah im gonna try the t5 since the t8 doesn't seem to give off as much
you're pretty knowledgeable with reptiles but I get confused with supplements for bearded dragons. since I have a uvb I should use the calcium powder, and calcium powder with vitamins without d3?
Thanks for the video, very informative. Brand new to this as we just got our new girl Merlin. Question we have a 40 gal Thrive habit with the the two round UVB (CF) and heat lights. Our beardie is around 1yr old, how do you recommend we upgrade our lights given we will eventually be in a 120 gallon 4x2x2 in another 6months or so.
