There is also an unforgivable amount of padding (underground subway section in particular). Many of the side-quests were complete uninteresting fluff that belong in a random MMO, not a story focused single player game. Oh, and for some reason they had the ridiculous idea that god-like beings now exist in virtual reality instead of the real in-universe world (and no, they aren't simply VR representations of them, you actually gain the ability to summon them after they're defeated in VR). And to top it off, they ruin the mystery of the build up to seeing Sephiroth by having him constantly appear as an illusion to Cloud all-throughout the story, and *spoiler warning* have you actually fight him as you're leaving Midgar as the end boss, instead of wisely showing restraint until later in the story.
