And number 0.5: Camera and the Enemy In the Camera settings, if you go to enemy switching and change the settings from the right stick to the Dpad, you will be able to lock on to an enemy and freely control the camera. You can switch enemies by pressing left or right on the Dpad, while switching party members up and down. You're welome!
Best comment in this whole damn section! Thank you. I’ve been getting so frustrated when trying to adjust angles and my characters swap targets instead
Hate that this is so good because I got halfway through hard mode before hearing and trying this but was so used to switching party members with right and left on the dpad that I just gave up
I like Falcon, but this is pretty.. well, just wrong at points. I have WAY more materia in FF7R as I did in the original at the same point. Probably double by this point.
And it has a counter stance when you block and tifa she my cannon lvl up unbridled strength 3 times with deadly dodge with refocus and time magic to stop the stagger bar and you can pretty much one hit ko a boss as long as you increase the damage to the stagger meter
Switching between these two modes also cancel the animation of your attack which you can use for the last hit of the combo in either stance because they usually leave you stuck/in recovery frames (so basically mash square in either stance until the final blow, then cancel it by switching stance and you should be able to continue attacking much faster.) Using this technique will make the whack a box game a breeze :)
1. Good tactic with Cloud is to get in in Operator and when you see enemy preparing to attack - press triangle. Cloud instantly parries after you switch to Punisher, you dont even need to block. 2. Do all side quests. You will be rewarded with special cutscenes with Tifa and Aerith if you complete everything. 3. You DONT get proficiency by just using a weapon. You DO get proficiency by executing this weapon's ability. You get extra if you complete bonus proficiency task which are stated in weapon discription.
First playthrough, sure, but to get everything you have to actually ignore side quests for certain things to happen: Like when you first arrive in the Slums with Aerith, you do all the quests you get her best outfit but retrospectively do none of them and you get her worst and do half get her "ok" one.
I used items on normal, but I’m going into chapter 18 right now with dozens of potions, 60 antidotes, etc. Not an easy game, but normal is definitely not so hard that I used all my items.
@Noble Phantazm i also brought ff 7 remake and god of war at the same time i just beat ff 7 remake, plan to play god of war today 100% the game then go back to 100% ff 7 remake on hard mode.
Do the side quests. They even offer special short "scenarios" when you do them all per area. Like if you do all the first ones in the slums Tifa will ask you what to wear. Your choice affects what she wears later on.
"Weapon proficiany increases as you use them." WRONG Weapon proficiany only increases when you use the weapons unique skill, also the proficiany bonus doubles the percentage gained when using the skill For example the metal gloves for tifa have the unique skill divekick so you need use divekick to increase it's proficiancy, the proficiancy bonus is finishing of an enemy so in order to get the bonus, you have to finish off an enemy with divekick. Make sense?
Came here to say this. Also, #3. >Normally, to heal, you're pretty reliant on the ATB meter. But Auto-Cure will make a party member automatically heal anyone... casting time and MP costs still apply... but it's still incredibly useful to be able to heal without being stuck waiting for the damn meter to fill up. Uh. No. From the description on the materia itself: Auto-Cure Materia. Casts Cure on severely injured allies up to a set number of times. Will not activate if the character does not have enough ATB charges and MP, or the player is controlling the character. In other words, you are actually still stuck waiting on an ATB gauge to fill. That of whoever has it equipped. And that means that unless they're building ATB very quickly, or you're just not taking damage, then they're going to be auto-healing (up to ten times) when they could be doing other things.
i wish there were 2 of them, equipping it with aerith's curaga makes me feel invincible. can max our hp with just 12mp.. that's why i had to manually cast haste in each of them during boss battles..
@@sunoozao4118 Just get prey on 2 characters and chakra on all 3 as well as cure (max) on all chars. You doesn't need more. Magnify is best used on haste or barrier. And that is even more important on hard mode, since you can't reg MP outside of those mako shards. The resting spots only regenerate HP and you can't use any items.
@@sunoozao4118 when you beat the game and gain access you chapter select, you can get them again! That goes for all the HP ups, MP ups, Elemental, and Magnify. Hell you can even redo chapter 14 and get more pray (not 100% certain on the pray materia since it's the only one I haven't gotten again yet since I haven't made it to chapter 14 on my hard playthrough yet)
@@codedduelist5309 that's not true..yellow and blue materia does not respawn so u cant get another magnify..only green and purple materia respawn when you go through the chapters again.
Summons don't only happen on boss fights and special encounters. It's literally any fight youre having trouble with. Taking a long time on relatively easy enemies? You'll get a summon
Yeah they pretty much work like FF15 Summons. Only come out when you having a hard time like a party member just died etc. You also need to be fighting for a certain amount of time if you get destroyed right out the gate it won't trigger. Some summons have certain conditions as well like the bigger ones wont fit indoors .
actually to trigger summon is to either stagger an enemy or when you are low on hp (red screen) and each summon depends on the current battle arena size there are 3 - small: the deluxe and pre order, cactuar, carbuncle, chocochick - medium: ifrit, shiva, chocobo & moogle - large: fat chocobo, leviathan, bahamut you will notice this, when the summon can bar is filled but you can't summon the large summons (leviathan, fatchoco, bahamut) but you could summon the smal and medium summons, because the arena is medium sized
@@rexxel8867 Don't say actually if you don't know what you are talking about. I have tested it repeatedly farming Ch 9 Arena. Only time Ifrit starts coming out is if I let one of my characters die. Also in the hell house fight I was doing some hit- and run tactics and was fighting him for 10-15 mins. No summon came out until he 1 tapped Aerith with his ultimate B.S. Divebomb attack. Game was like NEED HELP ?!?! IFRIT IS HERE- SURVIVE! Summons are very OP in this game- its basically having another party member that can't be hurt. Its sole job is to do damage. If you are staggering enemies that means you are doing well enough on the DPS side to not let the pressure gauge decrease. The game already rewards you for staggering- its called Limit Breaking. Summons are to help you if you are struggling.
Guess ill throw in my two cents. I've had the summon gauge pop up for me a shit ton for just staggering an enemy. I could be on full health and it'll still pop up. I've had the summon gauge pop up for me if one of my character went into red health. I think there's a flat chance that the summons will decide to help out, but it factors in whether or not the stage is big enough to accommodate them, and if one of the summon conditions have been triggered i.e. staggering, low health, time spent in combat Edit: I'm pretty sure @Rexxel hit the nail on the head
Yep using it for defence is A LOT more useful in elemental fights - especially considering it heals you at MAX level when the paired element is attacking you. On attack side at MAX it only grants a 25% attack boost
Tip: Sick of upgrading weapons. Go to a weapon of choice and push the "triangle" button to have a auto level up. You can pick between Manual, balanced, attack, and defense.
The only thing I don't like about it is I can't start a fight with a spell or choose when to use a summon, shit I don't even know how to trigger a summon. I've had Ifrit for a while and only had him come out once.
@@nightmonkey2779 First equip the summon then when you are fighting a tough boss and the character equip with the summon is in critical health then a summon meter will start to fill. Side note I have not seen if it works on human bosses.
Holding Square with cloud results in a different attack depending on what mode you're in. Punisher modes hold attack will give cloud a buff that increases his damage but reduces his defence and operator modes hold attack is a wide AoE spin. At the end of your punisher combo, you can switch back in to operator mode to gain and additional few strikes in your combo and make use of the down time. Switching in to punisher mode as an enemy attacks you results in to a counter similar to holding guard while in punisher mode. With Barret holding square until he fires a big shot at the end of his combo then instantly pressing triangle (when overload is on charge) will result in a faster charge animation and make use of the down time you would otherwise have by not doing so. Using Steel skin is advised as it enables Barret to reach that final shot of his standard attack without getting interrupted as much. With Tifa you can stack up unbridled strength but still access her whirlwind uppercut ability by holding square and not consuming the other abilities. You can also combo in to dive kick while midair from whirlwind uppercut, allowing you to do a big combo with Rise and Fall > Omnistrike > Whirlwind > Divekick seamlessly. Her Triangle abilities build up the damage percent bonus while an enemy is staggered. With Aerith.. idk I've not really discovered any quirks with her standard kit, if anybody know of any please let me know.
Bonus: When you are Healing or using items there is a "multi use" button (R1/L1 i forget) so you don't have to keep going into the menu selecting it over and over. If you didn't know now you do.
True. Which brings us to a BIG thing that he forgot to mention which is "Check the game's log". There's tons of useful informations in it that are not explained by the game in the first place, like what status aiments do or the multi item use option you just mentioned. Speaking of which, I think it's L1 but I reversed R1 and L1 through the accessibility options of my console while playing this game (I'm sorry, I can't use R1 to block, it goes against the natural setting of my brain) so...I may get confused with the exact input. Just check the logs guys lol EDIT: bandi138138 answered the question while I was typing my message so, I was right apparently, this is L1.
@@thomashafner8487 yeah it does require them to have atb they won't auto heal you until their bar is full. Barret is the best healer when you have weapon level 6 at level 50 coz he gets 50% cheaper heals
but he doesn't do that on the scene cloud with aerith at the playground while they are sitting at the top of the slide plaything, and it was hilarious though when i realize it
More or less upset i accidentally bought a second copy by accident because i originally wanted the deluxe edition (which is still sealed since I got the regular copy) and then not even a year later it's free on ps plus 🤣
Tip 11: Non elemental materia, such as Time, etc often have resistances if you equip them to your bracers. The resistance is written at the veeeery bottom of the materia's description.
If you link haste with the equivalent of all materia, atb’s fill up faster. I kinda stopped using barrier after lv 37 because ive maxed prayer and increased hp/mp up... im sure that’ll be different once i go through hard mode
Buy and keep potions for healing in between battles, they cost only 1/5 of what a Hi-potion costs but do 1/2 of the healing. And as mentioned use L1 for multiple uses.
But this can't be correct though? when i got a new weapon (machine gun for Barret as example) it hade like 40SP from the start...if what you say is true how is that possible?
@@Thefunnierone he's talking about the unique weapon skill not the weapons lvl and as falcon said all weapons lvl at the same rate so will always come with what you'd call starter sp
I was about to point this. Glad somebody else did. Took me a while to realise this, like it only popped in my head by the end of chapter 3, before going out with Jessie. I kept on using the weapon wondering why the hell my proficiency was like only 15% even though I was using it ever since getting it from the shop. Then I realised it's about using that weapon's skill several times. Duuh.
@@Thefunnierone that's SP, not proficiency. SP is gained by leveling up your character, proficiency is gained by using the specific skill tied to a weapon OR by doing the "Proficiency Bonus" on the weapon description.
The fighting is addictive....plus i get to hear one of my favorite battle themes of all time everytime i get into a fight...and cloud Looks so badass with the upgraded look...loving this game so far.
Confirmed a lot of what I already suspected and expanded on what I only had an inkling on. Like damn I figured there had to be a way to pull up Assess info after the fact but never thought to tap the touch pad🤦🏽♂️
If a cutscene happens before a battle, look to the lower left of your screen and you might see the Square button. If you do, hold it down and it will open the menu before the fight. INCREDIBLY easy to miss but useful
Dude. I saw that just before the reno and rude fight on the pillar and I thought that would take me back to the main menu of the game. I swear I'm dumber than a box of rocks.
When I figured out that blocking in Punisher mode filled up more than half of a Shock Troopers stagger gauge, I felt so smart because for the life of me, I couldn’t find their weakness and I tried everything. It definitely felt like a “big brain gamer move”
Sweet! I've got a messed up tv so most of the instructions are out of frame lol, or at such a high resolution i can't actually see what is said (I have NO IDEA how much gil I don't have), so it's really neat that you figured that out on your own. That said, wathing Markiplier and Jack play RE3make has made me feel infinitely better about myself. :D ...but I do worry they're as stressed as we all are right now, it coming through their vids to me at least. I hope they and everyone stays safe, and I wish you well and all the best Zach. Luck to both of us as we try to use big gamer brain moves! ...are these inverted controls?
Anthony Įødīçę I didn’t know that! Are you saying that if you continue holding block in punisher mode, it’ll build up if an enemy hits you multiple times?
@@samueldecarvalho9886 you can't block him, you need to wait for one of 2 of his moves to be able to block him and counter, the other moves are grabbing type/ exploding type
One more thing with parry on punisher mode. You can actually time a parry from operator mode by pressing triangle which parries AND switches you into punisher mode.
Only way to use it..Did it by accident once trying to get ready for a block and was like well that just made flow soooo much better. If you use synergy with cloud and Magnify on your other two party members is make for a really quick fight Also, as you can crack a stagger almost first attack every time if you match the spell correctly and time the 3rd members ability.
It does come in handy on Septhrioth where it can be hard to get a hit in on him when he’s right in on you to help build just enough ATB to Focus Thrust and knock him off balance slightly or to Counteract which is awesome. But I’ll agree that Punisher don’t get used properly or enough at the right moment. Not even I have always used it properly and I’ve completed the game on normal.
Thank you sooooooo much for the tips. I got this game and rebirth for my birthday. I hope im in the right for playing this one first. And I have been playing it like, nonstop. I'm in love. I'm on the lookout for hints and cool things so I can have the best possible outcome on my first playthrough. Yes. I'm one of those players who will walk around in circles for hours to make sure I don't miss anything on my first run, because from experience, you only have one first playthrough. And I feel the need to cherish it and savor it like a cup of chocolate pudding.
Man. I can't believe all the cut scene material and extra miscellaneous goodies you packed into this video. Very well made. Thanks for the tips! I'm on chapter 13 & pretty much knew, used and utilized all your tips but, watched the whole video anyway. Thanks again!
All this things the game already tells you, is up to you to use or do them. The tittle of the video should be "Final Fantasy 7 Remake: 10 TIPS you will find useful". All things aside nice video!
I learned alot after watching this video, I can continue with my first ever playthrough with this knowledge that I know I won't remember when I need it the most when the time comes 😊
which make the materia totally useless :D when i found out i took it out and never used it again. Its good as a starter materia when you're grasping how the game fight work, once you understand, that materia is garbage.
@@WastedTalent83 I wouldn't say useless, but while it can save you if you aren't paying enough attention (sometimes you really get into the attacks lol) it can totally be a detriment, as it only uses basic cure when you likely want cura or curaga later in the game (and by likely I mean definitely)
@@randalthor2859 have to agree with andrea as well, considering it cost ATB AND MP AND only uses the base AND you have to count the times its been used(10 at level max) its essentially way less reliable than having Cure slapped on that character and switching to them
I used punish mode constantly, but didn't even realize the benefit that blocking made you auto counterstrike. I just found a huge difference in the damage output. Also you don't need to roll MOST of the time to get closer to an enemy while in punish, you just attack with square and Cloud will leap large distances towards them while remaining in the mode.
My brother and I are playing our first play through. He’s impatient and basically rushed through the beginning skipping every bit of information the game gives you. Long story short, I’m here now lol
1. The game specifically explains parrying. 2. You can buy almost all materia from venders or vending machines. This feels like “stuff you might have missed” rather than stuff FFVII doesn’t tell you
This is this the video I wanted to see, I’m about to play FF7 remake. Huge fan of the original ps1 version, and this helps explain the new play style/ and quirks very well, after I just wasted time on other videos. Thanks!
I wasn't using Punisher and forgot grenades. It also didn't help that Lightning was my only attack materia. I had to wait for the one move that I could block that made an openinv
All the fights against the Turks characters were all crazy Nuts. Reno and the other guy in shades were all cray. Then there was the guy on the bike all were just crazy characters. And then there was Rufus.
Two other things about Punisher Mode that I haven't seen much info about from the game or anywhere else: First, if you hold square while in this mode, Cloud will flow into a unique power attack that also puts him in a shortened Berserk status. Ideally, as soon as an enemy is staggered, you immediately go Punisher, hold square, then tap square to get the most out of Cloud's basic attack. Especially effective if you're using Elemental to exploit a weakness with basic attacks. Second, the Parry materia gives everyone a special quick dodge that can be used by holding block and pressing dodge. Cloud gets a unique bonus with this, as he can execute the Parry dodge while in Punisher Mode without canceling Punisher Mode. This can overcome the initial mobility penalties of the basic Punisher Mode when used properly.
o4komodo I love this channel, Jake an crew are angels and falcon has his moments. But same as I love my friends, ima call them out when they do something lame. I also wish they hadn’t put clips from hours into the game, but hey no ones perfect.
1. Punisher mode gives you Berserk status which is very helpful. 2. USE ELEMENTAL MATERIA. Gamechanger. 3. Swap between characters while in combat. Do it. A LOT.
@Captain Caveman he means outside of combat. i found out by accident. choose an item to use and before choosing the character youll notice in the left of the dialogue box you'll see "hold L for multiple" or something like that. that way you can use healing items in succession without opening the item menu over and over.
When completing the proficiency bonus for weapons, I like that they count the times you miss the target, but still count it towards the 10 uses you need to perfect it. Gaia knows I've missed Infinity's End a lot.
Started playing this on Hard mode.... All this time before then, I had no idea pressing the touch pad after using assess materia while in combat, allowed to see the enemies information again. /facepalm Thanks Falcon. *Thumbs up*
Some good notes that you may have missed (or didn't choose to include, but I wouldn't know why): -weapon's proficiencies do not increase "just by using them". you have to actually use the skill associated with that weapon. every skill use will increase proficiency by some percent -You taught about upgrading weapons, but you can also set weapons to be auto-upgraded so they invest points when they have enough (so you don't have to baby them). You can always reset a weapon at the kid if you don't like how the points were invested. -Special meter for summons does NOT happen only during boss fights and special encounters, if you lose I think approx. half your total party health, even in a normal battle, a summon meter will begin charging, you just normally never go that low in your health in a normal battle. They may be easier to trigger in boss fights and special encounters, but it is not exclusive. -Just a tip, not actually anything you miss, I completely love the barrier materia and almost always link it with my materia which let's you cast on multiple targets at once (forget the name now, synthesis materia?). that way I can give my whole party defense bonuses easily
there's always a number 11, the difficult mode settings, I found out that if you select Normal mode, which seems to translate to Hard mode, as for "Easy" mode, I bet that translates to Medium mode, where as Classic mode obviously translates to the real Easy mode.
I did all the side quests, after I got into the game I really wanted to get the most out of it and spending more time in the environment. I’m into slums and shanty towns anyway, love how it’s portrayed in the game. The city in the sky looks crazy I even searched the height up apparently it’s the height of the Empire State Building. Love the concept.
Chadley does not give you a summon fight for every 5th mission you do but certain missions, like you need to do the 12th one to unlock Leviathan, which i didn't get until i had done 17 of them and was near the end of the game :P. There is also 1 chapter which has 2 branching quest lines(ch9) that you can't do in one run and have to do the chapter twice to get them both for the achievement, But the game does not tell you this.
i miss only one thing from that frikking kid, and he only make me fight 2 summons XD why!? am i missing something? I'm sure leviathan will unlock anfter i do the 200 % stagger whatever but, in that case its 3 summon? i only have fat chocobo and shiva. Also FF7 without ultimate weapon felt so bad, i hope they will give them to us in the next ff7remake games.
@@WastedTalent83 There are 5 summons in the main game and 3 DLC summons, If you want an easy tip for the 200-300% stagger fight fat chocobo and spam Tifa's triangle move or if you are far enough spam her true strike and triangle.
Something about materia and stacking them. There's a specific kind of materia (the blue one) that, when you stack it with another one can give you a special buff, defense against or even imbued your weapons with one of the magic elements.
Adendum to point #2 and this is very very good. Eventually you'll get the Magnify Materia, you can equip this with any other materia and that transform the magic into a multi hit magic but with less damage (level 1 is 60% less effect but level 3 is only 25%less effect), the effect can be turned on and off during fights with L1. Usually you put this with elemental materias to pull more damage but you can also equip It to Barrier or Heal to cast buffs on the 3 party members at the same time and that's huge
I can not believe they don’t fully explain the block-counter mechanic of PUNISH-mode. You know, the thing the mode is named after. Thanks for the tip. I was wondering why Cloud sometime counterattacks while blocking and sometimes doesn’t. Still can’t fathom how they missed explaining this.
except it does tell you. After the initial note shown in the video once you switch into punish mode it explains that when blocking melee attacks cloud counters. It also explains that rolling cancels Punish mode. All of this is explained in game.
i'm sticking to the orignal not because of nostaliga (first time i played ff7 was on a crummy PSX emulator 2 years ago) but because i don't like the voice acting, corny one liners, and combat system. might be old fashion but i like the turn based combat of the orginal.
Anime is tRashsaRt si agnaM, Love the game but I really identify with this comment. Edit: I worked at a gas station, way back in the day, just to buy my first PlayStation just to buy FF7. I’m completely biased toward the very original so there’s that. Don’t get at me cuz, AGAIN, I do love FF7R as well.
Not an action JRPG fan but had to get this due to the hype surrounding combat; now getting lost in the incredible depth of the entire game. Ridiculous amount of tips and hints and hidden madness, so this is what FF was all about!!!
This video has definitely been helpful, it's nice to know some of the things I've been finding frustrating to myself have frustrated others. I'm gonna learn to love barrier now and I never realised parry boosted so much. Thanks gameranx
Here's two things the game really doesn't tell you (nor that's obvious) that you've missed: 1) Tifa's Focused Strike ALSO builds a lot of ATB if it connects AND if you're controlling her during the hit (that means you can control someone else, order her to use it, and then change to her when she activates it. If Tifa hits after the control has shifted to her, then she will still get her ATB built up for almost 1 bar) - Try combining it with ATB Assist and Skill Master Materias. You can try adding ATB Boost to her as well, but I personally think that's a waste of a slot. 2) Using Parry Materia with Cloud while in Punisher Mode lets him "dodge" without returning to Operator Mode. Useful against magic/ranged attacks and to avoid knockbacks. Keep in mind you will still return to OM of you dodge normally, though (which is faster than pressing ∆).
Quick tip that also carries over from other Final Fantasy games, undead enemies (such as ghosts) will die instantly from using a phoenix down on them, or alternatively casting Raise on them. Raise seems to miss occasionally, but had great success with using Phoenix Downs. Not much help in hard mode when you can't use items, but first play through can quicken the train graveyard area. Cure spells also deal damage as well. You will notice the enemy name in the target list when casting Cure spells. Healing materia paired with Magnify materia will cure your party and deal damage to the undead.
Wish we could attack our own party members when they are affected with Sleep status. It was bittersweet to have Cloud slash at Aerith to wake her up to cast Healing Wind on your party. lol
Yeah this is something I also found be really missing from the game, I mean if they did it in FF12 why not in this one? It gives you so many options for fun strategies. Now most of the time your party does nothing useful until you manually tell them to
Seeing that randomly placed Tifa saying "I'm sick of all of this!" clip made me think weird things, like, why am I on UA-cam at all, watching videos... ever. Existential dread. Bravo.
Under rated tip about punisher mode, I'm amazed of gameplay videos I watched where the player was not using it at all to counter enemies and make the fight easier... thinking of that Reno fight from IGN, blech.
Assess. That thing is your best friend. It comes with stats and tips. I knew from the get go to switch from physical to magic depending on what mode it was in.
I wish someone had told me earlier about the second elemental materia, my favorite materia in the game. I also didn't pay attention to the part about putting it on your armor to absorb the associated element equipped to it. The battle against the bombs in the Corneo Cup finally forced my hand after multiple deaths. My materia was maxed out so their attacks just healed me. Damn, that fight was easy once I learned that! Also would've been good against the fight against Shiva, as another comment said. Also, considering all side quests (not the discoveries, just the green quests) must be done to get that second elemental, I recommend finishing the game on standard to get the chapter select mode (and unlock hard mode), and then playing only the chapters with side quests on easy. Chapter 9 will need to be done twice, once for Madam M's missions and again for Chocobo Sam's. COMPLETE THE ENTIRE CHAPTER! Don't just finish the missions, save, and move on, it won't count! You need to wait until the cutscene that shows you've entered a new chapter. Then feel free to save and go to the next chapter. You'll find the second elemental after you've completed the quests in each chapter that has them, which concludes in chapter 14. When you come out of the sewers in the mission with Leslie, there is a bulldozer or something on the path you'll be standing on. You'll know you've succeeded in all of the quests as a letter will be on the ground with an indication arrow to pick it up and within it will be the materia. Once you have it, slap that bad puppy on and restart on your hard mode playthrough. Do all of chapter 14's side quests before going into that sewer with Leslie to ensure you get it, and there's a final part of one of the side quests while down there related to Corneo's loot. There are upgrades that are exclusively given on hard mode and I think a different game ending, so it's not just something for people that want to torture themselves, lol. I usually don't play hard modes but this is one of the very few games that I've loved enough to do it and has felt very satisfying to do. I'm in the midst of getting the...Gottedamerung, I think it's called (you start battles with your limit break) and then it's back to Sephiroth, who was kicking my ass so I decided to finally look up help...which lead me to info about that ring and that 2nd elemental materia.
most humans are weak to fire, most monsters are weak to ice, most robots are weak to thunder, basically every single bird looking thing is weak to wind
The Elemental Materia if equipped to weapon slot linked to any Element or say Lightning will allow that character to do some damage based on level of both Materia linked. If you equipped to Barret with say Lightning and Elemental, it will allow him to rain Bullets with Lightning damage. On normal game play thru first time you will only find one of Materia. When chapters are open after best game you can replay chapter for Reactor 5 and pick it up at the broken bridge by lamp 3. You can then equip Tifa now with the 2nd Elemental Materia and say Ice linked in glove slot for damage Elemental bonus.
No. 11 - The game takes a page from Star Trek 2009 reboot... the altered timeline twist that may lead to a different outcome to each of the character's fate (Aerith and Zack in particular).
Correction to your point about weapon proficiency. You gain access to that weapon's ability as soon as you equip the weapon. You gain proficiency by using that weapon's ability in battle (so spam that ability to quickly gain proficiency). 100% proficiency means that you have permanent access to that weapon's ability even when you do not have it equipped. It is sort of like how FF9 handled magic and equipment. Also, throwing in my own tip here. Prayer materia is very useful, especially when you max out its level. It heals HP of all party members, has a short casting time, and it doesn't consume MP, instead costing 2 segments of the ATB meter.
heres a tip, for players in hard mode that run out of MP ( hard mode items are not useable and benches only restore HP, mana only gets restored from boxes and completing a chapter) if you save infront of boxes and break them get mana save and reload the boxes will replace themselves giving you more chances of mana gain
To the Punisher Mode section of this video; it's a counter, not a parry, but the actualy Parry Materia can let you dodge while you block, and do damage all at the same time, staying mobile, and not losing punisher stance.
Well when they do announce the next game, expect it to release 3+ yrs after they announce it, they announce games when they are starting dev on agame. They announcedKingdom Heast 3, but I waited 4 yrs of them teasing it's release. They gave a teaser of this game 5 yrs ago.
Useful tips here in the comments, more than in the vid. Especially, if true, just by hitting triangle Cloud will parry automatically without having to use R1. In all honesty I've pretty much never used that mode. It annoyed me as hell. Cloud was so "clunky" and slow that it just bothered me as heck. But, then learned the Counterstance ability and that was pretty much it. Counter attack becomes easy. Beside all that, my tip number one - use Tifa as the main source of damage and all fight things related. She's fun to play and you can combo nicely with really good damage output. Also, in her weapons you can get Speed stats increase. Helps filling the ATB. I've used magic only when had to or just got annoyed with my enemy. Pretty much used Tifa's fist to go through the whole game. When I could, of course.
Tbh after sinking in 100 hours into the game I've found Operator mode waaaayyyyyyyy more useful. That magic block, the quick press to a counter-attack if needs, counter stance whenever etc
Number 11: Cloud isn’t interested, he just wants his money.
Sure👀
Never would’ve guessed
1 out of 10 Tifa is 11! 😍
Hey to first time playing this an my Boy like where my money at the whole time lol
Kermit the soldier first class frog here. Where my money
And number 0.5: Camera and the Enemy
In the Camera settings, if you go to enemy switching and change the settings from the right stick to the Dpad, you will be able to lock on to an enemy and freely control the camera. You can switch enemies by pressing left or right on the Dpad, while switching party members up and down. You're welome!
Best comment in this whole damn section! Thank you. I’ve been getting so frustrated when trying to adjust angles and my characters swap targets instead
Hate that this is so good because I got halfway through hard mode before hearing and trying this but was so used to switching party members with right and left on the dpad that I just gave up
THANK YOU
Much thanks. I actually did see the option but didn’t try it because I thought the stick would be better. :P
Cheers for this!
Pusinher mode is not just a bit more damage..is a LOT of more.damage! You take down enemies much faster
Operator *
a well timed switch to punish mode also results to a parry
You get extra if you complete bonus proficiency task which are stated in weapon discription.
go into whack-a-box to level up Cloud's weapon proficiency
Metalslug those are the best tips! 1st one is a game changer, thanks!
First playthrough, sure, but to get everything you have to actually ignore side quests for certain things to happen:
Like when you first arrive in the Slums with Aerith, you do all the quests you get her best outfit but retrospectively do none of them and you get her worst and do half get her "ok" one.
Also just permanently keep Elemental and Lightning on his armor. :p
Just literally commented about actually using the move to gain proficiency. best action rpg hybrid ever
"Like it or not you'll always use items."
Laughs in hard mode.
yeah xD allthough items is not needed so much in this game though xD
Laughs in Prayer, Chakra, and deadly dodge+hp absorb
I used items on normal, but I’m going into chapter 18 right now with dozens of potions, 60 antidotes, etc. Not an easy game, but normal is definitely not so hard that I used all my items.
@Noble Phantazm i also brought ff 7 remake and god of war at the same time i just beat ff 7 remake, plan to play god of war today 100% the game then go back to 100% ff 7 remake on hard mode.
Right lol I was fighting leviathan in hard mode like tf did I freaking do to my self lol
In rpgs you ALWAYS take the "wrong" way
RIKO_XIII ESO but in this game the wrong way turns out to be the right way on several occasions
The right way isnt always the easiest path
I hate when the wrong way is the right way. Happened several times in this game
Unless they stop you and wont let you go that way.. found that to be annoying a few times.
this is like a religion to me since my childhood.
11:33 Also if you hear Barrett singing about finding treasure, then you know you're going somewhere optional.
Thats awesome, thanks for the info. Finally got the game about 3 hours ago and I cant stop playing lol
Do the side quests. They even offer special short "scenarios" when you do them all per area. Like if you do all the first ones in the slums Tifa will ask you what to wear. Your choice affects what she wears later on.
"Weapon proficiany increases as you use them."
WRONG
Weapon proficiany only increases when you use the weapons unique skill, also the proficiany bonus doubles the percentage gained when using the skill
For example the metal gloves for tifa have the unique skill divekick so you need use divekick to increase it's proficiancy, the proficiancy bonus is finishing of an enemy so in order to get the bonus, you have to finish off an enemy with divekick.
Uh. No.
From the description on the materia itself:
Auto-Cure Materia.
Was just going to say this too, just spam that ability for about 3 fights then go back to your weapon of choice
Literal Sin and the worst part is that if you are not using said party member, their atb fills significantly slower.
Do you think he even plays the games he “reviews” ?
Christian i’m pretty sure he does, probably just miscommunication
Protip: Link the all materia (Magnify) to the time materia (Haste).
Everyone will get haste in one spellcast. It's a blast
i wish there were 2 of them, equipping it with aerith's curaga makes me feel invincible. can max our hp with just 12mp.. that's why i had to manually cast haste in each of them during boss battles..
Magnify and Heal materia is really good. It seems to heal everyone no matter how far apart they are. Really good with Curaga
It should be my choice like the original, if i want to summon ifrit on a fckin cactuar i should be allowed.
actually to trigger summon is to either stagger an enemy or when you are low on hp (red screen)
and each summon depends on the current battle arena size
there are 3
- small: the deluxe and pre order, cactuar, carbuncle, chocochick
- medium: ifrit, shiva, chocobo & moogle
- large: fat chocobo, leviathan, bahamut
you will notice this, when the summon can bar is filled but you can't summon the large summons (leviathan, fatchoco, bahamut) but you could summon the smal and medium summons, because the arena is medium sized
I think there's a flat chance that the summons will decide to help out, but it factors in whether or not the stage is big enough to accommodate them, and if one of the summon conditions have been triggered i.e. staggering, low health, time spent in combat
Edit: I'm pretty sure @Rexxel hit the nail on the head
Elemental materia is just soooo OP! Combine elemental + fire and destroyed Shiva in VR a lot easier yesterday x)
I used that combo on Cloud's armor for the Bomb fight in Corneo Coliseum and they did me a solid by healing me with their attacks.
In vr ?
Elemental materia max level +ice negates all damage for shiva
Yep using it for defence is A LOT more useful in elemental fights - especially considering it heals you at MAX level when the paired element is attacking you. On attack side at MAX it only grants a 25% attack boost
@@colby99143 *Multiplatform master race here: Obviously you never played the game. It's already out on PC kid.*

@@QuietAC It honestly depends on the weapon. Cloud's Iron Sword is best for defense, but Hardedge is best for Attack.

#1 save often. And specifically, just before boss fights. So you can change your setup quickly, if you fail.
The game lets you restart just before a fight if you die, no manual saves needed.
With aerith you can hold square to attack instead of constently pressing it. I hope Im not the only who doesnt know about this
Bonus: When you are Healing or using items there is a "multi use" button (R1/L1 i forget) so you don't have to keep going into the menu selecting it over and over. If you didn't know now you do.
L1
Just check the logs guys lol
EDIT: bandi138138 answered the question while I was typing my message so, I was right apparently, this is L1.
Thank you
Lol no way. I just finished the whole game without figuring this out. Thanks.
The game tells you this at the beginning.
(reference: I just started)
Just so everyone knows, auto cure and synergy does take atb gauge. Its not a free cure
and MP too
Captain Caveman I was wondering this lastnight haha
Do you need to have healing materia equipped on that character as well as the auto-cure?
@Captain Caveman obviously not cuz he literally says you get a heal without waiting on the gauge
@@thomashafner8487 yeah it does require them to have atb they won't auto heal you until their bar is full. Barret is the best healer when you have weapon level 6 at level 50 coz he gets 50% cheaper heals

That’s the most impressive thing I’ve seen in the whole remake!
but he doesn't do that on the scene cloud with aerith at the playground while they are sitting at the top of the slide plaything, and it was hilarious though when i realize it

He also takes it off and rests it against the wall when he lays in bed, early in the game.
Who's here because of March PS Plus? 🤣

More or less upset i accidentally bought a second copy by accident because i originally wanted the deluxe edition (which is still sealed since I got the regular copy) and then not even a year later it's free on ps plus 🤣
WITH NO SHAME 🤣
I am so glad I did not pay for this game!!! It does not compare to the original, it has a few good things but the missions blow
Tip 11:
Non elemental materia, such as Time, etc often have resistances if you equip them to your bracers. The resistance is written at the veeeery bottom of the materia's description.
doesn't have to be on bracers, you just have to link ward materia to them.
resistance only applies when linked ward materia, which is explained in the ward material info
If you link haste with the equivalent of all materia, atb’s fill up faster. I kinda stopped using barrier after lv 37 because ive maxed prayer and increased hp/mp up... im sure that’ll be different once i go through hard mode
@@gt7805 Do you put your atb assist on Tifa? Her speed atribute is it insane.
Buy and keep potions for healing in between battles, they cost only 1/5 of what a Hi-potion costs but do 1/2 of the healing. And as mentioned use L1 for multiple uses.
4:07 correction the proficiency only increases by using that skill NOT the weapon itself.
@@Thefunnierone SP is retro-actively gained, weapon skill proficiency only goes up if you fulfill the condition stated...

I found it by accident, when my kid jumped on my arm.
The manual people....
Everything in this video is in the manual on the main menu where you set materia and weapons...
That's literally why its there.
If a cutscene happens before a battle, look to the lower left of your screen and you might see the Square button. If you do, hold it down and it will open the menu before the fight. INCREDIBLY easy to miss but useful

One more thing with parry on punisher mode. You can actually time a parry from operator mode by pressing triangle which parries AND switches you into punisher mode.
Yeah, I'm surprised he didn't mention that, that's one of the best ways to use punisher mode.
This is what i do with nailbat. Homerun Every time
Only way to use it..Did it by accident once trying to get ready for a block and was like well that just made flow soooo much better.
If you use synergy with cloud and Magnify on your other two party members is make for a really quick fight Also, as you can crack a stagger almost first attack every time if you match the spell correctly and time the 3rd members ability.
Pretty much the only way I’ve had any success with it
It does come in handy on Septhrioth where it can be hard to get a hit in on him when he’s right in on you to help build just enough ATB to Focus Thrust and knock him off balance slightly or to Counteract which is awesome. But I’ll agree that Punisher don’t get used properly or enough at the right moment. Not even I have always used it properly and I’ve completed the game on normal.

Auto-cure still requires the party member to have the needed amount of ATB charges

That fight was sick
All the fights against the Turks characters were all crazy Nuts. Reno and the other guy in shades were all cray. Then there was the guy on the bike all were just crazy characters. And then there was Rufus.
Two other things about Punisher Mode that I haven't seen much info about from the game or anywhere else:
First, if you hold square while in this mode, Cloud will flow into a unique power attack that also puts him in a shortened Berserk status.
10 things the game doesn’t tell you.

"Punish mode, use it"

When completing the proficiency bonus for weapons, I like that they count the times you miss the target, but still count it towards the 10 uses you need to perfect it. Gaia knows I've missed Infinity's End a lot.

Thanks Falcon. *Thumbs up*
for real. was wasting ATB by running Assess again because I forgot what I read
I thought you couldn't even get hard mode until after playing it on normal.
Some good notes that you may have missed (or didn't choose to include, but I wouldn't know why):
-weapon's proficiencies do not increase "just by using them". you have to actually use the skill associated with that weapon. every skill use will increase proficiency by some percent
-You taught about upgrading weapons, but you can also set weapons to be auto-upgraded so they invest points when they have enough (so you don't have to baby them).
Tip: You can take your party to the VR summon fights.
From what I gather, the only way to get most of them is to beat them in the vr battles.

there's always a number 11, the difficult mode settings, I found out that if you select Normal mode, which seems to translate to Hard mode, as for "Easy" mode, I bet that translates to Medium mode, where as Classic mode obviously translates to the real Easy mode.
You missed a great chance to title this video 10 lessons for life on the ground floor.
That elemental materia is really useful i recommend picking that up
Something about materia and stacking them. There's a specific kind of materia (the blue one) that, when you stack it with another one can give you a special buff, defense against or even imbued your weapons with one of the magic elements.
Make sure it's a "link" weapon you will know if 2 materia slot a connected with a line
ShortyProGaming exactly! Thanks for the clarification.
Elemental or added effect. You need s weapon or amour with 2 slots linked. Or it does nothing.
Great job. Love they thumbnail s and lil snip pics n voice overs. Plus helpful
NOW WE NEED A LEGEND OF DRAGOON REMAKE!
I agree! It was one of the best ps1 games I have ever played.
At first I didn't really know anything about final fantasy series, but now that I played it, I LOVE IT
*reason to me to play FF7 remake*
i'm sticking to the orignal not because of nostaliga (first time i played ff7 was on a crummy PSX emulator 2 years ago) but because i don't like the voice acting, corny one liners, and combat system. might be old fashion but i like the turn based combat of the orginal.
Anime is tRashsaRt si agnaM,
Love the game but I really identify with this comment.
Edit: I worked at a gas station, way back in the day, just to buy my first PlayStation just to buy FF7. I’m completely biased toward the very original so there’s that. Don’t get at me cuz, AGAIN, I do love FF7R as well.
@@matguimond92 I love the voice lines, and the original had corny one liners as well. Combat system, well, you do you I guess. You're missing out tbh.
@Matthew M Of course it's full price it's a remake not a remaster. And this isn't even the full story. Stop whining because you have no money.
@@magnamic5614 i didn't want to sound like a nostalgic troll - i played the remaster demo on my ps4 pro but i ended up not really liking it.
Not an action JRPG fan but had to get this due to the hype surrounding combat; now getting lost in the incredible depth of the entire game. Ridiculous amount of tips and hints and hidden madness, so this is what FF was all about!!!
I love doing quest so that’s not a problem for me 😏
Lucky you
Yandhi heh 😏
This video has definitely been helpful, it's nice to know some of the things I've been finding frustrating to myself have frustrated others. I'm gonna learn to love barrier now and I never realised parry boosted so much. Thanks gameranx
I do enjoy FF7. But hear me out... A remastered The Legend of Dragoon🤷🏼♂️
THIS
That would be fucking awesome!
Legend of Dragoon was terrible
@@x-menjinping3286 I think you're one of the first people I've heard say that in 20 years..
X-Men Jin Ping, you’re entitled to your opinion and I respect that. Stay humble and be true to yourself, buck-o😎👉🏼👉🏼
Here's two things the game really doesn't tell you (nor that's obvious) that you've missed:
1) Tifa's Focused Strike ALSO builds a lot of ATB if it connects AND if you're controlling her during the hit (that means you can control someone else, order her to use it, and then change to her when she activates it.
Getting close to finishing the game and I am already sad cuz it won't last forever..
It was bittersweet to have Cloud slash at Aerith to wake her up to cast Healing Wind on your party. lol
I've been playing this game all day,it's incredible. Seen the notification, had to check it out. Really good video guys ✌
just started the game, its freakin fantastic
Wish they would have included a basic AI system that allowed you to set custom AI actions. Like cure if health is below 25%.
I loved the gambit system in FFXII. I was hoping it would show up again at some point and it never ever did.
There is a materia "Auto-Cure" which does that if a character has equipped it
@@itsTtime95 But thats the point! It shouldnt take a materia slot to do something that could have been handled by a basic AI system.
_nah that'd be too much like a real jrpg_
_and then, we'd like, have to, um, put more work on the, uh, actual fkn game._
Yeah this is something I also found be really missing from the game, I mean if they did it in FF12 why not in this one? It gives you so many options for fun strategies. Now most of the time your party does nothing useful until you manually tell them to
i like how well you explained the complicated parts and why they were important, but i like how you ended it with "Obviously, this game's a beast."
'Punish Mode!' Zooms in on the word 'Punisher.' Repeats 'Punish Mode,' 800 times.
Seeing that randomly placed Tifa saying "I'm sick of all of this!" clip made me think weird things, like, why am I on UA-cam at all, watching videos... ever. Existential dread.
Bravo.
Good tips
However when you run Hard Mode, items are useless!
punish mode counter is really the only way to easily beat Reno, also the auto-cure DOES require an ATB gauge - right in the description
3:52 is the funniest shit I've seen all day lol
Under rated tip about punisher mode, I'm amazed of gameplay videos I watched where the player was not using it at all to counter enemies and make the fight easier... thinking of that Reno fight from IGN, blech.
Completely useless against throws however, which kind of sucks. Kept trying to use it on Rude and got tossed around like a dogs chew toy.
I remember during the fight with the boss ghost monster I died 8 times because I didn’t know they where immune to physical attacks while flying 😭
SVG OOF lol did you not see the word immune pop up when you hit it?
robbiesilverwolf I did but I thought it was cause of a certain skill at first so I kept hitting it hoping the skill would cut off soon
I subscribed. Gotta say that I like your style. Great pointers of a great game.
I like how it's called what it doesn't tell you and literally the first one is in the tutorial
Ppl skip tutorials for some reason💀
Auto-Cure still requires a charged ATB bar
heres a tip, for players in hard mode that run out of MP ( hard mode items are not useable and benches only restore HP, mana only gets restored from boxes and completing a chapter) if you save infront of boxes and break them get mana save and reload the boxes will replace themselves giving you more chances of mana gain
Link Magnify with Healing Materia and then you can save MP and ATB by group Curaga during boss fights. Why didn't you mention this?
Just use Pray, save mp for attack spells
@@zaneomega2 Prayer requires 2 ATB gauges tho
WHAT YOU CAN GROUP HEAL??? but yeah I generally used pray to conserve MP
To the Punisher Mode section of this video; it's a counter, not a parry, but the actualy Parry Materia can let you dodge while you block, and do damage all at the same time, staying mobile, and not losing punisher stance.
I love this game!!!!! Everything i wanted. Cant wait for the next part.
10:30 Honorable mention: Charlie Sheen is in the game lol
I could have sworn sam elliot is in the game. But i was disapointed when i found out it wasnt him. Especially since the name of the character is sam
Charlie Sheen and Solid Snake's love child.
@@eric8604 SAME. I hear the voice and saw the name, and was like, "Is that who I fucking think it is??"......annnnd then it wasn't and I was sad.
@@dubhooper13 dude i thought the same thing
Charlie Sheen voiced by Balthier
Tbh after sinking in 100 hours into the game I've found Operator mode waaaayyyyyyyy more useful. That magic block, the quick press to a counter-attack if needs, counter stance whenever etc
