We were Seattle Yuppies in the uber liberal Fremont neighborhood, so this was a complete send-up, designed to embarrass him, which it did. The Republicans are conducting genocide, for a little more profit for the white .01%!
It speaks volumes when the people portraying these characters don't care about the characters. Rey had potential, but any strength or development that could have been shown was cast aside to make Rey a perfect, flawless slate of a character. Lame.
Love, when he talks about Luke as 'me'. He's just so deep down into this role and what it meant to all the people. It's a shame what they turned Luke into. Nevertheless, it is a great fortune that the real Luke is still with us - as Mark and his vision of what he should have represented.
The best thing about Mark is that he has a rare trait where he has maintained a genuine love for his role, the universe, and the fandom for a very long time. He has never been shitty to a fan. He talks in length about his opinions on the universe. He’s a fan like the rest of us. Such a genuine person. I hope he continues to have a solid career.
Yes! The first thing my father said after The Force Awakens was "there goes the reunion I guess" and I felt gutted. How could they NOT have one scene with all of them together. We don't even see Luke's reaction to Han's death, and the reunion between him and Leia was basically faked. Disney really fucked it up beyond anything a fanboy could write.

Hamill is great fun because he's always been one of Us: the geeks in the audience who sit around and jabber about the characters. You know Harrison Ford is like, "gimme my paycheck," and Fisher always hated the character, but Hamill really loves Star Wars and always wants it to be wonderful. Hamill should probably be directing at this point.
I don't believe Fischer actually hated the movies, I think she was more or less indifferent to them, and hated the fact that they basically took over her career. Sir Alec Guinness for sure HATED the movies though lol.
YES. CO SIGN. Luke saving them at the end of the forest battle would've been golden. Especially if he knew what happened to Han and could feel it but just gets there too late to save him. Kylo Ren would've lost the quick battle to his master. Luke could've bested him without even pulling out his light saber. The trio would escape afterwards and leave Ren to his fate. Then the mystery of his demise would add to the impending drama of Episode 8. There were SO many threads that could've been tied and handled then without strife.
Yeah in the moment it would have been awesome, but it wouldnt have been awesome for the continuity of the story. It just wouldn't fit as well, they would have to do some rewriting and completely change the tone of the end of the movie as well as draw it out a bit longer to explain some things. If they ended it without explaining certain aspects of that ending then we would all be talking about how lame the ending was instead of who should ahve caught the lightsaber.
I got legit chills just imagining that scenario. Instead of Rey catching it, it flies past her too where a hooded figure catches it, and ignites it alongside a green-bladed saber, and proceeds to destroy Kylo before the planet-split stops him.
Mark Hamill has been around a long time. He's a very successful guy. I think most people think this career went stagnate. Nope, he's been very very busy.
I really like Mark Hamill because you can clearly tell he is passionate for the univers he is a part of and for the character he plays. He didn't say "Luke was a jedi drop out" he "I was a jedi drop out" He sees the character as a part of himself and he really gives it his all and it's so wonderful to see. As much as i love Han Solo you can clearly see that for Harrison Ford, Han is just a paycheck.
He's one of the only one who actually cares about these characters while Disney just wants money. You can tell Mark didnt want to be in Disneys Star Wars, but he was kind of forced to do it. He said that if he rejected the role, there would be a riot outside his house, I feel bad for him
Sorry Im late, but I always take issue with such statements: "while Disney just wants money." What do you think earns a company more money, creating a story that genuinly interests people, draws them in and makes them buy movies, games, books, shirts, toys etc., or a quick cashgrab that TFA and TLJ were? The last movies made fans quit the franchise for good. Disney is actually missing out on so much money right now by pissing of the fans.
@@GuardsmanHenrik I agree with your statement but in all honesty they gave the starwars game license to EA, and all they care about is money. Not to mention TLJ might have one of the most split audiences, (Not saying I liked it) but Disney is making money while pushing an SJW agenda in my opinion, and making a lot of money while doing so.
@@aleccross2987 "Ea only cares about money" I dont think I have to repeat myself? If they cared about money, they would make games that people actually wanted to buy, which wasnt really the case with battlefront 2. People also didnt buy battlefield 5 e.g.. The solo movie was also not making much money. So their greed for money actually makes them less money in the long run.
@@GuardsmanHenrik that's the point, business practices like that will only keep them afloat for so long, I mean EA is still making hundreds of millions every year from their FIFA and Madden packs. And I'm not saying there isn't effort put forth in star wars movies, but Disney now owns star wars, the MCU, and soon fox. They will be owning the biggest titles for movies and will be making an absolute shit ton more of money.
"she hasn't even been to dagobah for training!!!" love it lol. The thing that bothered me the most about the new film was how rey just all of the sudden mastered the force.....such a let down.

Marks' voice has so much character and you can see he thrives on sharing his energy with his audience..for it really is his audience!!... He is loved for who he really is not just the part he plays so well!
...Anyone wonder if his acting in Episode 8, where Luke is grumpy or angry all the time... might not have been acting? I can see Mark being so genuinely disappointed that it fed right into his performance.
When he got to the part about how he's a Jedi school drop out, I realized how much he identifies with the role, that he himself IS Luke, and yeah, he is. I don't imagine Luke as anyone else but him. Very interesting.
audience2 my older bro was born in 1974 and was an avid Luke Skywalker fan. I was so happy for him that after all these years he’d get to see his beloved character return to the silver screen. I am genuinely upset for him, to wait all these years just to watch the character be decimated.
"It was a really great surprise.." "What surprise? The one where they left your character our for all of episode 7, turned him into a negative, ineffectual wimp in episode 8, and then eliminated all of his accomplishments and gave them to the new girl, thus making Luke's whole character effectively unnecessary?" "Yeah, that surprise. I was impressed by how efficiently they were able to dismantle one of the world's most beloved heroes."
They removed Luke from the movie because every time Rey would encounter him in the script, the movie would become Luke's movie. But Kathleen Kennedy wanted a feminist Mary Sue. WTF, that's what we wanted, a movie about Luke, that would have been great.
I'd rather see a movie about Luke than freaking Rey. She was so rude, inconsistent, hypercritical that I don't see how people would praise and look up to her. It's sad how they say she's the first strong female in Star Wars when we had Leia, who was more relatable, a badass, and not a perfect Mary Sue. These idiots seem to think that being strong means being physically capable (which is what Rey is) when that's not the case. It also means having a compelling and confident personality.
LoreFreak TFA should have been all about Luke. Now we have these awful new characters and there's nothing the sequels can do about it. Episode VIII will still be about Rey, don't kid yourself.
i have a good idea for episode VIII... Luke gets dragged into a room time anomaly and wakes up in Gotham City and has to slug it out with the joker! Therefore the SW Portion of the movie can be Rey.. while Luke has Gotham... Luke Skywalker VS Joker... the universe will implode! but really... for characters as Rey characters like Mara Jade were thrown out of the window... and i've gotta feelin that even thrawn will not be done justice outside Zahns Book... the design in Rebels doesnt look good... the voice sounds more like a stereotype upperclass villain...
Despite han’s fate in TFA....luke’s scene was epic...and without a single word...just with the look of his eyes... It delivers a way more than the whole movie. No offense
That one scene might've been "epic". But, what does it say about a film when a twenty to thirty second scene at the the very end of its two hour and fifteen minute runtime is one of the handful of highlights, and it is arguably *the* best scene in it? I'll tell you what. It means that subjectivity aside, the film fails on every conceivable level and can't even fully stand up to scrutiny on a more comprehensive analysis of the plot.
@@gregoryl.levitre9759 the Reisitance has several hundreds of people, while the First Order has millions even after the Death Star rip off was destroyed, so the First Order has the democratic majority
I think Luke being a grandmaster could have worked with the script, I appreciate that the films are trying to do their own thing and try to create their own story. The character of kylo ren is interesting as he is full of complexities, he is emotionally scarred, and somehow it seems he has a strange relationship with Luke. Imagine this, after leaving the stronghold, Luke starts to demolish the first order at ats, however kylo in a fit of rage storms out onto the field and there is an emotional confrontation with his uncle and former master, someone he looked up to in the past. Then the battle could have been an epic fight, could have ended the same way it did in the movie. I think that Luke's potential in this film wasnt fully explored, and that it would have been cool to see this happen on screen, just to show how powerful he was, and how guilty he felt about kylo. Its possible some of these emotional connections might be mentioned in the sequel, but you never know.
SpringThatTrap love Mark Hamill would love to talk to him one on one which I'm sure everyone would love to do just to have a chat. My favorite part in all of this because it's exactly what I said when watching the movie-she hasn't even been to Dagobah for training! Stupid movie in my opinion I too thought Luke was going to be in this for more things than just lifting off a hood and having a disgusted bewildered look on his face.

Mark Hamill just seems like such a cool down to earth guy. Between being Luke Skywalker and voicing one of the most loved incarnations of the Joker, and being obviously ridiculously talented, he seems like a really normal likable guy. No huge ego. So unlike so many of his peers. *cough*RachelZegler*cough*
Some would if the events made sense and doesn't ruin what's essentially an icon of Star Wars. Also, it's funny that Johnson wanted to make Luke "more human" with all the character-assassinating flaws he's beset with, whereas Rey gets away with being perfection incarnate.
Shamshiro Funny thing is - Luke would get away with being perfection incarnate. He's been a Jedi knight for decades, he's been training, he has learnt, he has lost so much, we've seen him grow and now he deserves to be almost inhumanly wise and great, a new Yoda, a grandmaster. Rey on the other hand? No sacrifice, no training, nothing. So unrelatable.
Luke was my favorite character. I think his character speaks to every young child. Naive, but understands what's right. I loved his growth from a teenage kid wanting to explore to a seasoned Jedi Knight that even uses some dark force powers (choking the pig dudes at jabbas palace for intimidation).
I keep wanting to say how very badly I feel for Mark Hamill in regards to the sequels. Such a wasted opportunity for his iconic character and a reunion with Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. It could have easily been done while passing the torch to new generation. It speaks volumes when the people portraying these characters don't care about the characters. Rey had potential, but any strength or development that could have been shown was cast aside to make Rey a perfect, flawless slate of a character. Lame.
E. Jones The best part was when Mark comments about Rey catching the light saber and she never went to Dagobah for training.
Just keep in mind... they had ALL THREE of the original actors alive, ready, willing and able... and they gave us episodes 7 and 8...

YES.
Domestic Wolf Hamill should write for future Star Wars movies just like Shatner and Nimoy did for some Star Trek movies and books.
I got legit chills just imagining that scenario. Instead of Rey catching it, it flies past her too where a hooded figure catches it, and ignites it alongside a green-bladed saber, and proceeds to destroy Kylo before the planet-split stops him.

Sorry Im late, but I always take issue with such statements: "while Disney just wants money."
What do you think earns a company more money, creating a story that genuinly interests people, draws them in and makes them buy movies, games, books, shirts, toys etc., or a quick cashgrab that TFA and TLJ were? The last movies made fans quit the franchise for good. Disney is actually missing out on so much money right now by pissing of the fans.
@@GuardsmanHenrik I agree with your statement but in all honesty they gave the starwars game license to EA, and all they care about is money. @@aleccross2987 "Ea only cares about money" I dont think I have to repeat myself? @@GuardsmanHenrik that's the point, business practices like that will only keep them afloat for so long, I mean EA is still making hundreds of millions every year from their FIFA and Madden packs.

No one was prepared for that Luke. Absolutely nobody was prepared for that.

It delivers a way more than the whole movie.
No offense
topcatbrodcast yes it was epic, but wow what a crap with episode 8 following that
Honestly it was the best part and my only favorite part of the whole movie
MAGAvsDEEPSTATE all the sequels are pure shit
That one scene might've been "epic". But, what does it say about a film when a twenty to thirty second scene at the the very end of its two hour and fifteen minute runtime is one of the handful of highlights, and it is arguably *the* best scene in it?
I'll tell you what. It means that subjectivity aside, the film fails on every conceivable level and can't even fully stand up to scrutiny on a more comprehensive analysis of the plot.
I really wanted to see a grandmaster level Luke just wreck the first order army
I wanted to see Grandmaster Luke wreck the Imperial Remnant and Yuuzhan Vong. Fuck The First Order- they're bad fan fiction.
@@gregoryl.levitre9759 the Reisitance has several hundreds of people, while the First Order has millions even after the Death Star rip off was destroyed, so the First Order has the democratic majority
@@jabbathehutt8426 The First Order and The Resistance are from bad fan fiction. Nobody cares about those Disney knockoffs.
And that's why the new films aren't really for you. You want fanservice, but only for the kind of fan _you_ are.
I want a talk show from Mark Hamill. I didn't know how hilarious the guy was until now.
You should see the things he wrote on Star Wars trading cards fans asked him to sign. He loves trolling and joking since back then.
***** Aight
***** Thanks
well he is the Joker voice in Batman: The Animated Series
"Ray tries to reach the sword, and Luke gets it" AWESOMEEEEEEEE IDEA!
Hold up, his idea of Luke being the one who caught the saber in the forest sounds so cool
its ok, we were all disappointed...
That's kind of a toxic mindset. Ep 4-6 were the best but I think they should try and make this trilogy as good as it can be. Episode 7 was good.
Nova Lux Sometimes if something is sacred you don't bastardize it until its no longer.
Make something great then stop.
The prequels, VII, and even RO are trash.
No John Smith, 7 was shit. It was a rehash that was held together by starpower and nostalgia. Hence, MEMBERBERRIES.
Member oh I member.
All the characters were shiite. Finn had no backstory as a stormtrooper. Mary-Rey Sue is self explainable. Captain Meaningless, Emo Vader, and orange female yoda. Also, Straight White Men are evil empire nazis and Death Star 3.0 which is even easier to destroy.
john smith Star Wars is for me but im not a fanboy who thinks everything Lucas or Disney makes is Gold.
When Episode I came out EVERYONE LOVED IT. Then we sobered up.
shairaptor When the buzz dies down more people will admit it. I read EU and legends lit as a kid and I remember watching the prequels with rosy colored glasses in HS.
When you grow up you can realize, "Omg, Power rangers or pokemon anime really was retarded to watch." Same with Star Wars.
I love how this turned into a TED talk at the end, him walking around on stage with the headset microphone. ha
Tfot?
Mark Hamill is a treasure to be protected at all costs
Mark Hamill just seems like such a cool down to earth guy.
Between being Luke Skywalker and voicing one of the most loved incarnations of the Joker, and being obviously ridiculously talented, he seems like a really normal likable guy. No huge ego.
So unlike so many of his peers. *cough*RachelZegler*cough*
He better get a lot more screen time in Episode 8.
Yeah and the movie better not completely suck.
MrOnomatopoiea
Unless it sucks like you're mom!
BattleMage Or your mom.
MrOnomatopoiea What did you think of Rogue One?
hunterkiller1440 I thought it was a decent effort with mostly likeable heroes and was much better than Episode 7.
When even the most important character is pissed off about the film, then you know you're a failure at filming
Richard Lew well true.
Richard Lew
Or not, and some want any excuse not to acknowledge the passing of time.
So unrelatable.
alec guinness Hated the original story, and he was pretty important to the story, well I guess a new Hope sucks now.
It seems he’s lead a fairly charmed life and still exudes class, intelligence, and a wonderful sense of humour in answering what must be difficult questions.
Mark, you are the essence of what made Luke Skywalker and Star Wars great.
No need to feel bad, he actually ended up coming around and saying he was initially wrong. He quite likes the sequels and how his character was handled now
@@gentlemancharmander4411
You can tell he was pulled to the side and scolded for saying these things. Disney basically twisted his arm on this, don’t kid yourself.
@@AsianIdiots323 the only one kidding themselves is you. You have nothing to go on other than your own delusions.
