You need to hit the Temple show in march and the Burleson show in October. This club needs some young guns to help fill the shoes of all the old timers who have passed.
Been a while since I’ve been called a young gun! But your point is the reason for the urgency for me: I want to capture these stories while we still narrators to tell them…
Yeah. Unless your 70+, then I guess I’m a young gun. I am going to join. Because 1 day all wooden lures even from the 1980’s will be antique. Also I believe there are some wooden lure designs that would be effective today. That a man may be able to replicate. That mouse lure makes me think of my great uncle. He was a young man when lake Texoma was being built. He got in to fish the lake as it was filling up. In those days a man fished to feed his family. He fished for fun and food. Anyway he catches a big bass. He said 6lb. You know he goes through the whole story of the fight. He lands the fish and the big bass has a mouse or rats tail sticking out of its throat. He was disgusted. But remember, the lake was filling up. So it makes sense. It was the only fish released that day. I wish I had asked him what he was using. He was a true sportsman.
The Mitchell 304 started it off for me a long time ago , yes , 304, it was round. Im 71 now and remember it well. The first plastic worm that wasnt a generix one out of a fishbowl was the Creme purple worm.
My Brother wrote that injun joe Frog article. His collection of thousands of frog and mice lures would amaze you! I caught my share of big bass as a kid on the garcia frog. It had great action but the hook up ratio was not the best. You had to really set that hook hard! Great episode and i look forward to the next one!
Well bud I hope you're having a super great Saturday I'm out here at the Delta fishing and I am busting some bass I'm using old time jelly worm from man's as usual on a shaky Head and these bass are eating them up all righty God bless love your channel man I think I'm going to buy a couple of your stickers and put them on my bass boat all right have a super great day God bless again
Well I was just telling my wife that they used to have a big a Collectable lure show every spring near our house and sure enough thanks to you showing the dates, I saw that Effingham IL still has it and it's April 16th. Even though we are just starting into collecting and fishing old school, her and I will definitely be there!!
I collect pre 1984 Heddon plastics and I was a NFLCC for a few years They mainly deal w lures older than I collect and their web site at the time was hokey ad.
You start going to those NFLCC shows you will find enough old tackle to fill a warehouse.Every show Ive ever been to has boxes and boxes of $2 baits. Those guys have a ton of knowledge.
This is a good tip. I think I join. I don’t even buy new lures. I can’t wrap my mind around a $15.00 bladed jig. You know. Back in the 80’s, me and my pops used to go to Army Navy stores in the DFW area. Occasionally they would have Bill Lewis and Norman lures on sale for .99 cents. So much of what is offered to anglers now days is meant to CATCH fisherman, not fish. Love your show. Would love to meet you. Ironically I have a guy in the Austin area that finds me lures.
"Meetings" consist of gatherings at a hotel with room trading, live and silent auctions, meet and greet with discussions about collections that are displayed, and tackle shows that are open to the public. Typically there is a good mix of baits from the 1900's up to more recent baits.
Hey Chris. I was watching the roadside bass in the other day and you were in brown wood. Ya mentioned Abilene but never showed fort phantom. One of my favorite lakes. Great podcast!
I just bought my first Bingo lures. I first saw them on Retro Bassin. And our Valentine’s podcast episode includes a great NFLCC member story about a lure intended for Al Capone! The Gazette is a fantastic magazine. I’m going to try to get to the National show this year. Hope to see you there!
Great timing on this video. I thought about joining either late 2020 or early 2021 year when I was hunting for info on a Swiv-a-lur (unknown to me then) that I had bought. I ended up not joining with all the crazy things happening & and events for a lot of organizations were getting cancelled and I'm more into plastic post 1940's stuff, so I wasn't sure if it was worth it. I'm getting "old-ish", so I sort of forgot about it after finding the info on the swiv-a-lure that I was looking for, so this was a good reminder. I made sure to join up before I commented so I wouldn't forget about it this time. LOL!
Another awesome video Chris!!! I rejoined last year too and if not for the Rona would have made my first meeting the first weekend in Jan. So bummed I couldn't go. I hope you get to a meeting and can't wait to see the video from that!!
Man there must be a mistake with UA-cam, they're missing a zero off the end of your sub count. How in the blue heck does this channel not have 100k subs!?
I know you probably covered it in a prior video but I can not remember. What model is that tackle box beside you today? My resolution is to catch fish each month of 2022. January-mission accomplished.
No, I am definitely sandwiched somewhere between a caster and a collector. I am sure they’d revoke my membership if I casted half of what they display! That said, every time I meet a collector who is hyper specialized on a specific lure (i.e., the Bingo) I learn something I didn’t know about how to fish it!

I think you have the best intro on all of YT. So good. Can’t wait to see you go even more retro. Love it all.

Yes, they definitely specialize in lures a tad bit before my time! But if it’s old, it’s gold!
I want to start collecting
Be careful, it’s addictive!
Congrats on joining!

Very well explained buddy! Congrats on your new membership!
Thanks, Mark!
I wish I would have kept my gramps old lures, they got sold at auction after he passed, he had alot of what you show, I remember them
I lost a lot of the lure of my youth, and have spent my adulthood trying to find them again!
Man i look forward to good ol spring fishing soon and also i love seeing retro bassin on saturday mornings. Thanks again
You and me both! Be back with an on-the-water episode next Saturday!
@@RetroBassin Heck yea brother fun times enjoy and thank you very much!
Everything I lived through you're talking about like it's ancient history it kills me
He! Even Googan Baits will be considered old school one day!
@@RetroBassin not in my book
Dang, I missed a show right near here! That would have been cool to check out. I'll look for it again next year.

Actually, that lake is on my list to fish.
Love to see another video 💪👍

Thanks, ego! The Tube is a fickle beast, but we'll keep on crankin' out old school content just about every Saturday!
Just joined today myself.
Carl White would be a great guest and the museum in Branson would be great for a video or 2
Thanks, Mike!!!

UMCO 173AS…picked up for $8 at the yard sale!
Any thing going on in the east ?? I am in Michigan! And would love to go to something!
I rather deal with the real people that actually collect and use them. Just keeping it real, keeping it old school!

You are tellin' me! Good news is we'll be back on the water next week, fishing it old school on Headwaters Lake!
