- Retro Bassin' comes to Japan!
レトロバッシン×トップトウ
In this episode, we do a little Q&A courtesy of Japan's TOP TOU Magazine. This is a great magazine dedicated to "old & sweet" fishing, and inside those pages is a whole new world of anglers dedicated to antique and discontinued bass fishing tackle. This issue they did a Q&A with Retro Bassin' and luckily ol' Retro has his English cheat sheet. Hope y'all enjoy this look back, good buddies!

BASS FISHING ARCHIVES
bass-archives....
How does this gentleman not have at the very least 100k plus subscribers!!!? Content is excellent, storytelling is excellent, Production is excellent! Thank you Chris, for the extras in my very recent Texas Provisions order. They were not expected, but very much appreciated!
Thanks, good buddy! Hope I threw some old school gold in there for ya!
I totally agree. Hit that thumbs up, that's what drives more people to get to see these in their thumbnails. I was hooked after my first one, lol (pun intended).
@@robertstanisch3452 Thanks for the kind words, Robert. The UA-cam algorithm can be more fickle than a black bass on a bluebird day…
We gotta share and put his name out there I never thought I would be so interested in this I love it tho!
So cool you got in Toptou! Sad we’ve almost let the art of print media die in the US.
I used to order a box set of floating plastic worm from BPS back in the late 80’s. I would cut the worm in half and rig it on a jig head so it would stand up vertical when at rest. No idea I as using a Ned rig, just trying new things. I miss the hours I would read the master catalog. I remember those worm colors to this day. Great memories reading it with my a Dad.
Awesome video Retro!! Well deserved and so cool to be in a Japanese magazine!! Teiji is the man!
Thanks Terry. Think you and I need to go to Japan at some point….
@@RetroBassin yep. I'd love to get back there. Just need to start saving the pennies now.
This has got to be my most favorite episode so far..... I love when people act real! And not act like they catch a fish on every single cast that they make Much love and respect Brother man!
Welcome to the club! Teiji is good people!! Thanks for the video!
Yes he is!!!
Man that is cool you are world wide with a culture that takes bass fishing more serious than we do
Almost need to do a talk through of that magazine. Make me seem like a retro amateur.
That magazine artwork is incredible, and I bet that ginger beer is tasty 👌🏼
Really enjoy your channel. I worked at Bass Pro in Lawrenceville GA. For 7 years and saw many lures come and go. Got to meet Gary Yamamoto a few times. Super cool guy.
Very lucky! I have a few old Yamamoto baits I have been meaning to use…
I remember that catalogue so funny. I just found WHAT I think are helicopter lures in my storage. Good history of you I just did a video like this, but I started in 1989 hahaha
This was pretty cool to see. I liked learning some of the history behind the retro bassin channel. It's awesome that you stuck with it, some pretty entertaining content, and you get to learn as well. Can't ask for any more than that!!!
dude congrats!!! you deserve the limelight~ keep it up
"Big In Japan!" My 1st motor boat was a 1969 13' Boston Whaler I made into a center console with a 40!
Such a classic boat!
@@RetroBassin I would troll Port A and SPI jetties in that little tub! I remember the ads where they cut up a Whaler with a chainsaw and floated on the pieces. "Unsinkable"
Man what a cool surprise and some awesome memorabilia from your Japanese friend! Just goes to show you everybody is crazy about fishing around the world!!!
Really think may need to do walk through of that magazine. It’s amazing!
Dang I don't know how you can remember way back when like your first bass that is impressive! I can't remember it I know I started tournament fishing in I think it was a 90 and haven't stopped since go to Arizona Cal all over California Oklahoma Missouri that's impressive that you can remember that far back love this channel man that guy still use jelly from man's I use their grape and I also use a lot of tequila sunrise worms

Thank ya, Chicken Fried!
Also have that sideways diawa swimbait.
Dead Or Alive!
Retro Bassin' now worldwide, congrats. My first baitcaster was a Shimano Bass One XT all the instructions and text are in Japanese.
That daiwa lure is their "dead or alive" bait.
Congrats on making it famous in Japan! It is truly awesome!

This is a wonderful break from hurricane prep. Fun video as always. Thanks!
Stay safe and watch out for that surge…gonna be a high one!
Great video Honorable Retro Bassin.
Thanks SWC…find that property for me on Okeechobee yet?
@@RetroBassin it’s every where Chris. Looking for one in our neighborhood so I can be in more of your videos.
@@RetroBassin you movin to Florida?😃
I love this oldschool stuff from Japan, my bank account not, the reels, lure and rods are extrem expensive but i love this stuff.
Very true, Redfin!
Totally Rad bro-We really appreciate what you do🤙🏻
Edit -That Diawa swimbait is called a DOA
Kudos to Teiji 🤘🏻
Dead or Alive…I totally remembered after I put it away! Clipped some monster stripers on that one!
Congrats Brother
Thanks for watchin’, JoJo!
Love this channel.
Thanks so much for tuning in, good buddy!
Great video buddy! Very cool!
Thanks for tuning in, Mark J!
I'd like to see you do more on the water fishing videos showcasing an old school lure bill dance style
You and me both, Rogue Tuber!!!
Retro with cultural flair!!!!! Awesome video.
Thanks, Keenan!
I do retro and also the big Swimbaits too. Don’t have collection like you do, but hopefully I will one day.
Karamucho ! hahaha. Have you ever ate Suppamucho? (sour chips) See you in Japan someday!
No! But there is little you post on Insta that I would not!
Loving these videos. Going fishing with my brother-in-law tomorrow so I’m gonna break out my 40 year old tacklebox and see if I can out fish him. Keep up the good work.
Just spray his Googans with a little gasoline…
Best part part of Saturday morning!
Missed one with travel, but we’re back on track. And may even have a quick Sunday drop if editing goes well this mornin’.
@@RetroBassin cool. I'm always up by 5am so I won't miss the notification tonorrow. :)
IF editing goes well lol. Take care...
Congratulations
Thanks, Carl!
I have to agree with you love old school things !!!!!!!
This is super cool dude!!!
I graduated in 1991. Ordered at least 50 Tornados out of that catalog. 🤣🤣
Good investment!!!
@@RetroBassin not a very good investment when you join the military in 1991, come home in 1995 to find your dirtbag stepdads kid stole your Plano Phantom 797 tackle box full of Tornados. 😡😡😡😡 Cant even buy a giant tackle box anymore, or Tornados without breaking the bank.. 🤔🤔
@@bradmallery435 when I became a truck driver all my cousins raided all my shit I came home to an empty tackle box😡😖😵
No way! I have that exact paddle boat in my pond.
If I had a lure for every bass I caught from that thing…oh, wait.
@@RetroBassin haha! Nice.
Well, you now say that “You’re Big In Japan” I love Japanese bass magazines. I have not read(Stared at)
Many but they are gorgeous
Congratulations homie, that’s very cool.
Man, I could do some real damage over there in those tackle shops…
@@RetroBassin while you were in Florida did you hit up any tackle shops?
I need to find a way to get toptou over here in the states! Looks like a good read! P.S. if buckskin lake is still around, and still fishable, it would be a cool video to go back and fish the lake
Hey man I forgot to tell you that I got the retro bass' shirt!! I love it. I'm glad I ordered a large because I'm about 5'9" and 170lbs and it's fits nicely, not to small not to large and baggey. My only worry is if I wash it I may shrink too much!?
Ps. Also thanks for the sweet sticker! You're awesome my dude! 🐟Keep on retroin'
I think they are pre-shrunk…didn’t get the cheap-o shirts. That said, I usually hang mine to dry it old school…
@@RetroBassin so you are saying if I was it it should retain the original size? Because I absolutely love it and the way it fits!
That’s awesome!
Thanks, Kyle!
@11:44 Two Choy....lol
Im dyslexic aswell.
It's a wonder no one here has come up with a retro fishing all tackle magazine being old reels, rods & lures seem to be a very hot ticket item among fishermen
Don’t put ideas in my head…
@@RetroBassin why not
Go get those Japanese lures wet! Would love to see them swim!
Ain’t gonna work on a pistol grip, however!
I would like to see a big swimbait show
I have seen some of the local “youth” throwing those Deps Slide Swimmers on Lake Austin…
@@RetroBassin go show them how it's done
I was born in Springfield Missouri in 1991 lol
Ok, then just made the cut-off for Generation R (Retro)!
🤣 haha
I lived in Maryland also in the White Marsh from 1968 To 1989 my first boat was 14 ft. Lancer run-a -.about red and white aluminum wish I had a now talking about old school sorry I don't have a picture it had a 25 h.p .johnson !!!!!!!

So I was subscribed to you and I go to click on this video and it had the subscribe in red letters? Just me or does anyone else have this issue
Odd! Could be watching from a device on which you aren’t logged in. Sub again…we could use ‘em!
Would you be interested in 30+years of old Bassmasters magazines
Does a bass pee in a lake? Darn right!
You were one of the last generation that took up fishing as a way of life. Kids today are DEFINATELY not like us. As far as I'm concerned, you're the last mohican bro. The bulk of us locked on as kids during the 60's and 70''s. Before the internet..... MY DAWG!
