I’ve only played this game for a little over 2 hours, but those 2ish hours made me feel like I was playing the best game of 2023, and it’s only January
That's the problem with releasing really good games at the start of the year. Everybody forgets about them when the game awards comes around.

Oh my god, this game looks like a playable 90s Cartoon Network show that, like, you legit forget exists for a few years and chalk it up to a fever dream before realizing, nope, it's real. Adding it to the wishlist.

I was thinking the same. I have hazy memories of getting games on shareware discs that looked like this and playing them on the family's Gateway Windows 95 machine.
It is absolutely a playable cartoon, specifically the Ren and Stimpy side of Nickelodeon.
If you made Gustavo the main character and reskinned him as Ren riding on Stimpy's shoulders, and made Pillar John into the History Eraser button, you're like 70% the way there to making a Ren and Stimpy game.
you also forgot two of peppino's moves
1. he has the ability to cancel his supa squat jump thingy into an airdash, preserving his momentum
2. he can perform a NUKE taunt after getting a 10 combo (and it stays after the combo if you didn't use it by the time the combo ended!)

the squat jump looks like the charged jump in jazz jackrabbit 2 doesn't it? the food collectables and munching sound also remind me of jazz (and so does some of the soundtrack)
1:09 That move is called Shinespark, and it's originated from Metroid series, namely Super Metroid. When you crouch after reaching boost speed, you "store" that boost in order to launch yourself at ramming speed toward desired direction, in this case up.
Yeah, I'm definitely due for another Super Metroid playthrough for not recognizing that.

I'm about 5 hours in and on the last floor myself, but you did a phenomenal job explaining why this game feels so dang good to play! It really set the bar high for Anton Blast, Pizza Tower plays like a brand new classic. I only wish I could play it portably on Switch
I think Anton Blast is more based on the Virtual Boy Wario Land. Kind of a different style from 4 on GBA, but an outstanding game in its own right.
sammme,, im stuck to consoles since I can't play steam games. i would be jumping crazy if pizza tower releases in the switch or ps5 but chances are just very very extremely low

One of my favorite parts of this channel is getting introduced to games like this that slip through the radars. There's some good indies that manage to "break through" into mainstream eyes like Hollow Knight or Slay the Spire, but there's so many more killer games hiding out there that make me go "what, why did nobody tell me about this sooner!!" haha

This game gives me flashbacks to watching the Super Mario Super Show at Grandma’s house during summer break
I love this game’s art style it looks like a cross between a 90’s Nicktoon and an edgy 2008-2013 Newgrounds flash animation if it was drawn on MS paint.
This game was in development since I was in middle school and it was definitely worth the wait

It's literally one of the best games to come out in the past few years! I admit I wasn't really huge about it back when I first learned about it back in 2019 with the SAGE demo. I'm really glad I decided to give it a proper shot as I'm absolutely bonkers for it! The crazy addictive gameplay loop, surprisingly versatile moveset, crazy smooth animation style, really fun characters, and the God tier music that rivals Toby Fox's stuff is just an unbelievablely good experience wrapped up in a nice pizza pie shaped package! If y'all haven't pick it up yet, just do yourself a favor and go do it now. Trust me when I say it's worth every penny.
The combination of classic cartoon characters really hits the mark!

I saw this game once on the steam "upcoming games" and immediatly got drawn to it, it looked like a fun frantic wario land style game and I will probably get it sometime soon since it looks like so much fun.

It's been decades since I last played Jazz, but I remember it being really hard to go fast for an extended period. The levels just weren't designed around it.

One of the things i loved about wario land 4 is that you start at the beginning and have to get at the end but to finish a level you have to run from the end to the beginning of the level
And pizza tower does that masterfully
Makes sense that the game took a really long time to make
Because the levels are made with thought put into it it’s not just some random jump from point A to point B
It’s start from point A to get to point B and from B get to point A
It’s so genius and this game actually makes me wanna get into speed running

It's deceptively good and smartly made designed Roguelite.
The plot of the game is that you are an agent from a resistance group constantly trying to overthrow the government in a never ending cycle of Winning in that goal, succumbing to corruption, and being overthrown by a resistance group, bringing it all back full circle. The snake eating its own tail.
There is a number of ways you play, and a few ways to win.
The usual way that roguelite games go is that it's purely combat oriented.
In Streets of Rogue, you can play and beat the game without killing a single person if you're clever enough.
It's a matter of knowing and understanding how to use all the interactions that are possible in the game.
Maybe you would bribe a quest target to leave town instead of killing them outright when the mission obective simply says: "Neutralize". It doesn't say how to do it, so all options are on the table.
There's killing the target, bribing the target, or threatening target. Two of those answers result in the target not dying.
There are even clever ways to kill that don't involve you actually fighting.
You could poison your targets with status effects by a number of means, maybe you straight of give them a poisoned cocktail, or maybe you hack the building's computer to release gas from the air vents.
You could even start fights between people and watch them whittle themselves own one by one for you.
You can do this with Rage Poison, The Haterator Ray, A Hologram Bigfoot, and there are even opposing 'factions' in the game that will fight each other on sight, all you'd have to do is get them together.
I could go on forever about this game.
You just gotta play it and see what I mean. It rewards you for using your brain instead of playing like a murder hobo.
ALSO.
Streets of Rogue 2 is coming out sometime soon, and it looks EVEN MORE INSANE.
Whereas, the first game took place is boxed in, linear procedurally generated dungeons on a level-by-level basis, the second game is an open world.
Everything in the run is all on one huge procedurally generated map. And there are now vehicles to help you travel these distances.
Imagine that. An Open World Roguelite. Amazing.
I can't wait for Streets of Rogue 2 to come out.

Getting S ranks is pain yet it feels great to really intimately know these levels, feels like I really didn't get to appreciate them fully when only doing a single playthrough. I have never hated a video game villain more than the pizza that appears at the end of the countdown though, he's ruined so many good runs already.
You should like the pizza dude though! He gives you a chance to finish despite the timer running out. I like that. It's thematic and forgiving.
Pizza tower changed my mind about antonblast, once the demo of antonblast released i didnt really saw it anything special, but then, after digging futher in to wario stuff i really liked it. plan to 100% both games sometime (and play warioland 4)

More the aesthetic of Battleblock I'd say. Pizza Tower is much, much faster.
Fun fact: if you run out of time in the pizza time section, as i found oit by accidentally doing a second lap without knowing what it was, pizzaface spawns. If he touches you, youre done. In earlier betas, you just lost points faster.
