I recently visited this trail. With all the rain and snow this year, the creek crosses over the main road up to the parking lot/trailhead several times, and the water gets deeper than one would expect. About 1.8 miles down from the trailhead, there is a particular creek crossing that looks pretty risky to drive over without four wheel drive since the pavement is pretty uneven. I saw a couple sedans do it, but it didn't look safe. Just a heads up for anybody trying to make it over without four wheel drive!

I went to hike the trail in November 2022 and the road was closed to non-resident traffic about 2 miles prior to the parking lot. I spoke to a local at the locked gate and he said the trail and road has been closed since March 2022 when a prescribed burn got out of control. I was hiking the Sitton Peak trail that day, saw the smoke and remember the latest Holy Jim fire well. He said the Holy Jim trail is expected to open in May of 2023. Keep up the great guides Cris, love your work!

Don - did I meet you on the trail to Sitton Peak that day of the fire? What a crazy day. Thanks for posting this and good to know, I'll pin it to the top. Looks like the road is supposed to open May 2023, but I'm not holding my breath.

Love that trail ❤️ used to ride my single speed mtb up to Santiago Peak via Holy Jim and Trabuco TT. Beautiful area for hiking and biking! 👍🏼✌🏼

Ha yea, figured the rain would give me good odds on water flowing. The road there was crazy with 4x4s

That is pretty cool that bottled water is provided at the trail head for hikers to use. Always a good hike when you reach a waterfall that has water cascading down over it like you found! Looks like a seriously nice hike.

What street is the trailhead located on? Any close cross streets? I never hike there because the trailhead is usually closed in my experience.

Hey I was wondering when it comes to driving to the trail head are there any car recommendations? Is it a pretty bumpy ride?

Check the link in the description for some pictures of the road. You can do it in low-clearance if you take it easy.

Is there any way hike to Santiago Peak at the moment?

You can take some of the roads that join with Main Divide, but they're not really that fun as they have 4x4 traffic. I tried Cold Water Canyon from the east side last week, you mind as well just write that one off as a trail anymore, which is a shame. I'll do a guide from Maple Springs in the next few weeks, which is probably the best of the bunch.

Joplin Trail is another good way to get to Santiago.
