In my opinion TAB did one thing better than S1. And this one thing is Edward. We saw more of his realtionship with Thomas. The only time we saw Edward as a father figure to Thomas in S1 was one moment in "Thomas and the Trucks". But this movie we saw much more scene where Edward is a father figure to Thomas.

Thomas’ behavior in _Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure_ while often criticized by CGI-era fans, makes sense if you recall the episode before SLOTLT, _Who’s Geoffrey?_ as Thomas has been let off the hook for too long by Sir Topham Hatt, so when he screws up big time, He gets really, really, REALLY mad, and regrets his decision of giving Thomas too much mercy.

The only thing I liked about Misty Island Rescue was at the end, when Thomas, Edward, Gordon, James, and Sir Topham Hatt are on misty Island, Sir Topham Hatt throws his hat in the air and loses it in the mist. Thomas then points out that he lost his hat, and then, Sir Topham Hatt says this. "Don't worry. I can find another hat, but I will never find another Thomas.". That made me think back on how far Thomas came over the years and reminded me that out of all the times that the series has gone downhill, there was always one and only Thomas.

    1. I remember seeing this in the movie theater back in 2008 and being absolutely blown away by how many model props were used.

Since Merlin was brought up, I think it would've been beneficial to point out that his character was one of the few in the CGI series to actually have his character tie back into the actual engine he was based on.
Merlin, as an engine, was based on one particular engine from the "King Arthur" class of engines. During WWII, this particular engine was outfitted with 2 additional funnels. This was done with the intent of making it so that the steam that puffs out from the funnels would be more spread out, allowing the engine to be cloaked underneath a hefty layer of steam, making it harder for aerial bombers to hit the engine during supply runs. Alas, the modifications didn't work, and the engine was swiftly reverted back to it's original state.
Merlin's name is in reference to the famous wizard of the same name from the King Arthur tales, in nod to the namesake of his class. Not only that, but his personality quirk of genuinely believing he can go invisible is in reference to the purpose of his additional funnels being to cloak him from above.

    For Misty Island Rescue, I had just gotten this idea but here goes;
What if Thomas was on Sodor the whole time?
Say, in this version of the movie... rather then have it be a separate island just there for some reason and have it never be explained and break countless reasons in the book-
What if Thomas instead ended up back on Sodor (or even another part of the British Isles) during a misty island. What happened was, following a severe hurricane, the ship taking Thomas to the Mainland was caught up in said storm. Swept up in the chaos, Thomas's raft is sent widely off course and ends up running aground on what we (the audience) assume is Misty Island.
Thomas meets the Logging Loco's and we learn the railway was a private one, originally used for timber extraction, to help fuel the growing industry on the island when the opening of a New Railway, far closer to the towns and cities of the island, made this one mute as it had to connect through a long winding track into thick forests and valleys, which made the journey long and time consuming. Thus, the railway closed down and was left almost completely abandoned, say for the small community who relied on the railway for its lively hoods.
Thus explaining why the trio of engines still work, are working, and the reason for and motivation as to why they wouldn't wanna leave there home. To them, its there everything and the only life they have ever known.
The search goes on, much like what was seen in TatGD, but now the Sodor Rescue Center plays a much bigger part. Eventually the lost railway is located once more and Thomas is found. The 3 Logging loco's are offered a place on Sodor but turn it down so they can stay with their "family" on the lost railway.
    I tried. I really did...

Regarding Ryan in SLOTLT, I am personally very glad he was not portrayed as overconfident and dismissive. Given that Ryan may have been named after Ryan Hagan, one of the chief voices in the Thomas Fandom, having Ryan be an overconfident, dismissive, and unpleasant character would have felt, to me, like a slap in the face to the Thomas fans, as if they would have seemed to imply that that is how the writers viewed the Thomas fandom as a whole. It really worried me in the months leading up to the movie, and I am glad that in the end they not only changed Ryan's personality, but changed it to something workable.
In regards to the idea of Ryan being a douche and making Thomas feel threatened, my take on it would be this: Instead of having Ryan be unlikeable, maybe emphasize him being a new engine, and that he is trying REALLY hard to prove himself, but because he is trying so hard, he keeps making mistakes, which causes even more delays on the Harwick Branch Line construction, which, coupled with having to relay the line to avoid the cavern, causes the project to fall extremely behind schedule, which aggravates the Fat Controller to an extreme, explaining TFC's unpleasant attitude through most of the movie. And during all this, Ryan is unknowingly snubbing Thomas, which causes Thomas to feel threatened and unimportant. This would then lead into Thomas playing the prank with the coal, which then causes the dynamite fiasco, and Thomas get in deep trouble with The Fat Controller. However, Thomas saving Ryan causes Ryan to realize he was unknowingly being a bit rude to Thomas, and this leads to the reconciliation scene at the shed in the evening. And during the scene where Thomas is chasing Sailor John, Ryan's quick thinking helps prevent a simultaneous disaster, and thus Ryan finally proves himself. And after Ryan explains everything to TFC, everything is cleared up.

Mr. Unlucky Tug, what I would love for you to do is to make a Full Movie review on Misty Island Rescue. Make a Review, talk about the maybe tiny good things about it, then talk about everything that makes it terrible, and then express ways of how to Fix the movie and make it work in the Lore.
Me personally, I would actually leave the island fully abandoned, Bash, Dash, and Ferdinand were abandoned, and the workings are in ruin.
The history of Misty Island goes like this:
American entrepreneurs we’re looking for work, when they happened upon the small island South of Sodor, they realized the island was rich in Lumber, and the island was almost constantly covered in mist, so they decided to start the Misty Island UK/US Logging Company. They bought 3 engines to help out on the railway, two yarding engines named Bash and Dash, and a 3 Trucked Climax named Ferdinand. Plenty of other engines visited the island through an under sea tunnel built by the entrepreneur’s. Sense the tunnel roof was unstable, only lighter engines normally used the tunnel.
The Logging Company also had two cranes. An American Hoist and Derrick Steam Log Loader Crane called Ol’ Wheezy, and a Swansboro Land and Lumber Railroad Steam Donkey named Hee-Haw. The Misty Island Lumber Company thrived for many years but eventually, the lumber industry began to slow down and then the entrepreneurs and their descendants had to find work on the neighboring Island of Sodor and the Mainland to find work, and the company was left abandoned, so we’re the engines and the cranes.
Years go by with nothing happening. One day, Thomas and Percy go to Brendam Docks to collect timber for the new rescue station. The whole hijinks happens between Diesel and Thomas, but Diesel actually manages to deliver the logs and prove Thomas Wrong, however the next day, diesel nearly falls to his death after going down the wrong line and Thomas rescues him. Thomas gets to go with Spencer to the mainland.
Mr.Unlucky Tug, you have the liberty to continue. I would have added my own characters, a Shay and Heisler.

Also, I think SLOTLT is the first time since season 5 where I felt I could call Sir Topham Hatt the Fat Controller. He feels like a force to be reckoned with, and I love it.
That being said, I’d put BMM ever so slightly above SLOTLT because it feels the most like Thomas. SLOTLT is good, but there are time when I feel it goes too hard BMM just hit all the right boxes for me and didn’t feel overwhelming.

I did think The Great Discovery was the greatest Thomas movie ever, but after rewatching Tale of the Brave TGD gets knocked down a number in my ranking. The emotional chemistry between Thomas, Percy and James throughout the entire movie is absolutely phenomenal, the 3 major character arcs of each engine and the beautiful heartwarming ending where they all apologize. Then they puff out of the docks while Gator's ship sails away into the sunset with the beautiful music playing!!!! I mean, crackling coalbunkers!!!! What a beautiful movie!!!! Tale of the Brave is my favorite movie in the entire Thomas franchise!!!!! I still love The Great Discovery don't get me wrong, but Tale of the Brave!!! Wooooo!!!! It makes me wanna cry!!!! The ONLY thing I do not like about Tale of the Brave is the cringy ass pop song "Let's Be Brave" at the end. That's it. And that's basically a nitpick. The movie is still so emotionally beautiful!!!! *Unpopular Opinion:* The Great Discovery is The #1 Best Thomas Movie.
-Practically made great use of almost every character; Steamies, Diesels, Jack and the Pack, The Narrow Gauge Engines, and others. Everyone was invited for the Final Goodbye to the Models. Still sad about some engines who didn't appear; Donald and Douglas, Oliver, and Daisy. At least we got Diesel 10 on screen for 1 second.
-A Great Contrast to the First Thomas Movie. The Magic Railroad; A rough start for a Thomas film and untrue to its canon lore, made by Britt Allcroft who gave life to Thomas. And The Great Discovery; A Great Finale that paid a heartwarming tribute to the Models we all know and love, made by Hit Entertainment, who at one point made, Thomas go downhill. Just goes to show everyone has their Ups and Downs in life.
-Introduced the movie as the Model Series's last, and it went in with a BANG on the door with its Musicals and Scores (no rhyme intended), with more catchy songs barging in along the way throughout the movie.
-"Thomas, You're The Leader!" is the only silly Thomas Rap Music of the franchise and an Underrated Masterpiece. Gave a sense that the show is moving up to the Modern Times, and away from the Old Era, which was made clear when it played as the secondary outro right after it's first original outro, the Engine Roll Call which also added Stanley in it, I love the amount of small little details and considerations this movie gives knowing it is the final movie of the Model Era, and delivered every tribute and respect for Thomas when they had the opportunity.
-The Bridge Scene from the beginning was just... *_Perfection._* Pierce Brosnan's Great Narration, Catchy and Intimidating Music playing in the background that still sticks to me to this day, a great use of the fear of heights (one of my phobias) and also gave us awareness that the bridge was old and unused for years which only adds to the tension, the whole segment actually felt dangerous and frighteningly risky to watch where you actually get to feel how much Thomas's Life was on the line, it wasn't as chaotic as Thomas VS the pirate in Sodor's Lost Treasure, the simplicity of Thomas being an old bridge in the mountains about to fall apart is enough to make someone feel at Death's Door, one of the perfect times where Thomas served as a great point of view of the audience where they actually felt like they were Thomas in a particular scene, Impressive Crashes of the Bridges' Props, and breathtaking camera angles of the bridge falling too. I've never felt so relieved in my life where luckily, no one was hurt, not even Thomas's Drivers.
-Expanded the Sodor's Map with more hidden and forgotten locations like The Great Waterton.
-which also gave one of the most intense and adrenaline inducing crashes in the franchise involving a newbie character.
-The Tower of Great Waterton falling to the ground was *_magnificent._* The fact they manage to recreate the same tower for the final scene is actually impressive.
-One of the only few times when Thomas's cheeky behavior didn't let him get away with the repercussions/consequences of his actions, and was immediately overcome with Guilt and instantaneously Regretted it; The most effective punishment of all.
-Stanley's Theme, really feels like an original Thomas Classic/Modern Theme Song and it is one of my favorites.
-Stanley's Introduction was a very welcoming one, and he is exactly what I would imagine meeting someone new; Curious, Trying to adapt to everyone's lifestyle, getting to know other people, Felt like a new member of the family that one everyone pays attention to and praises, and making someone else feel unimportant and ignored. In a way, he reminds me a lot of Emily in her first introduction, only Stanley's Introduction felt more exciting because of the hype that builds up around him. Because of that, I can clearly understand Thomas's feelings, and relate to him. Yet I also admire the presence of Stanley every time he's on screen because of the fact that's he's new, and maintained that constant unique vibe of his throughout the movie which for me is what made him feel so special, considering everyone basically praises him because he gets along with all of Thomas's Friends. He really feels like a character who could still the whole show, and Thomas wasn't gonna stand idle and do nothing about it, he knew this was his show and the finale of the model series. Hey may be a plot device, but he's a plot device that actually works perfectly with the story, and I wished they used him more in the show because he genuinely feels like a real addition to the steam team, it's a shame he became rarely used and never got a lot of screen time in the CGI era.
-The Plot, what else can I say, well written, fun, enjoyable, memorable, kinda dark too like that bridge scene again, and it's one of the Greats.
To say that I like this movie, is an understatement. It gave every tribute for the Franchise and the Legacy of the Models before moving up the CGI era, and went all out with its use of Characters, Narration, Intense Dramatic Moments, Score/Musicals, props, and of course, the Great Look of the Models Themselves which were, in my honest opinion, at its peak. Everyone has to dress for a special finale after all. And for that, I love it. This movie gave all the respects it had for the Models Era as well as the franchise as a whole, and for that this movie deserves all the respects it gets in return. And to think this movie, The Great Discovery, is what made me Discover Thomas in the first place, how convenient. _Truly, _*_A Great Discovery._*

I honestly like Tale of the Brave more than Lost Treasure, because the latter has weird pacing, like the Smallies' song (which grinds the plot to a screeching halt), or Thomas not being present when Salty explains the backstory, yet acting like he knows about it later.

To be completely honest in my opinion, HoTR is the top of my list.
I rewatched this movie when I had free time at the age I am today (16) and I started to see what little me saw in the movie. And also if I’m embarrassed to admit one of my childhood crushes being on this. This movie had a lot of plot, suspense and the Epic chase scene with Thomas, Hiro and Spencer, is actually pretty jarring for me. Plus the scene that probably scared me as a kid was during the chase scene Hiro starts to break down slowly, hearing his screams for help and desperation as he still keeps going and the worried looks he always gives, the Voice actor for him really did him justice and gave him a moment for us to live for.
Sorry about my rant on the movie I just thought it was incredible, I’ve never seen most of the movies, since it’s been a long time since I came back to this show

They both have extremely emotional stories that make me cry and the music in them is very heartwarming but also catchy at the same time!!!! Both of these movies are masterpieces so I can't choose only one. They are both tied at my #1 spot!!!!

My favourite: The Adventure Begins because I’m 38 and I’m a sucker for nostalgia.
My son’s favourite: The Great Race as he loved all the different engines.
A close second for me would be Journey Beyond Sodor. It has a good story, I liked the experimental engines and it has some cracking songs.
