      So true!
In the last few years I had real problems to enjoy Christmas, but last Christmas I bought myself an old 2002 Harry Potter Set (Chamber of Secrets) and not only was I excited again but also felt the same magic again that I felt when putting together the 2001 Hogwarts Castle as a kid.
Lego really helps me reliving my childhood memorie and, in some way, make new ones.

I am 57 yrs old and got my first set, LEGO Police car set 611 in 1973. When my favorite toy and my favorite movie joined, I was all in. Now my collection is out of control with Star Wars (almost all of them since the beginning), Iron Man, Bat Mobiles, NASA, the bigger cars, and the Botanicals. Building a new set is my Happy Place. My granddaughter knows the difference between Papa's LEGOs and her LEGOs. She helps me build a ship and we fly it around the house then put it on a shelf, then we build her princess castle or Spiderman set and fight the villains.

I have Been into Lego since I was a kid. All yhe way till 19. I took a huge hiatus from them through my 20s, getting myself established. But now I'm in my 30s and enjoying all the sets. They are putting out now for adults. I love the engineering and design portion of it. And then just collecting is fun for me as well. I've gotten to the point where I work for what I have. If somebody doesn't like lego, or me or what I do then too bad.

I am a 22 year old man, I turn 23 this year as well. My reason for loving LEGO so much is because I get to play with them and create my own stories. I would even write down how I would want the story to go, and it makes me really happy. When I have a short amount of time to play with my LEGO I just pull out a few minifigs and just play for a bit, but whenever I have a lot of time, I pull out some sets and just go crazy and create a elaborate story with lore lol. As someone who has come to terms with loving certain hobbies and enjoying whatever I do without carrying who judges me, it can get a a little exhausting hearing the same things repeated such as "arent you too old to play with toys?" or "That's really weird as an adult" etc... I just try to move on but sometimes it does get to me. Yes I have a job and I go to college full time and I have many bills like everyone else does, but I feel that people ignore that part of me and just see the me playing with LEGO and it makes people go away from me. It has happened quiet often where I would meet new people and I would mention how I love LEGO, and they automatically just think its weird, but when I get home from those terrible outings I pull out my LEGO and I start playing with them and it really just boost my mood because even though many people will leave me I just know that my LEGOs will always be there for me.

I like having something to do that doesn't involve a screen for a change. It lets me do something else with my hands rather than hold a controller or use a keyboard.
Of course there are other hobbies that allow this, I've always liked Tabletop battle games like Warhammer but being dyspraxic I find precise fine motor skills like gluing and painting a small (and expensive) plastic figure very difficult. I know whatever I finish with will not even look as half as good as what is on the box art.
Lego on the other hand is simple with great instructions and it is always going to look great when you finish. There is no price for a mistake as everything can be dissasembled and reassembled.
Once I'm done I like messing about and taking pictures. With the Lego castle I besieged it with all the pink frogs I got from the alternate build of the bonsai tree and had the knights fighting them off from the battlements. I used the all pink minifig from the Everyone is Awesome set as the leader of the pink frog horde. Currently thinking of what they can battle next...

The recent Dune ornithopter is a set that's specifically designed as a playset for adults. It is too heavy and too big to be comfortably held by most children, but the size of the tail, the intended handle, is strangely ergonomically perfect for adult hand, and it places most control mechanisms within reach. I love playing with mine, picking it up, flapping the wings a bit, it's a great stress reliever.

I can honestly say that at 54 I play with Lego almost exactly the same way I used to do when I was 10.. but the thing is that for me it was always the design and creative building that appealed to me. When I was a kid I would swoosh things I'd built but only for a minute, then it was on to redesigning and "improving" the model with some features of my own devising. Me and my best friend used to buy the same models and then informally compete with the best mods and with best I mean craziest.

It led to me giving exactly zero….let’s say ‘hoots’ about what other people think about me and my hobbies. Yes, you’ll meet people who think it’s infantile. But what my wife taught me is that life is literally too short to spend even a second worrying about that. I’m 20, the most fun thing I do is set up old scenes from movies and shows like the Clone Wars then admiring the scene for awhile. I also like them on my display shelves. The quality in Lego has bothered me with a few false advertising errors and low quality mini figs. The UCS Captain Rex from the Venator is exceptionally bad, no one can lie. And stop saying that the new helmet holes are ok. They are out of place, they make the rangefinders look horrible, and the helmets are misshapen with them. If anything, change the visor molds and binocular molds so you aren’t ruining the look of the whole figure. And No, printed waist capes and printed pauldrons don’t look good.

I suffer from severe anxiety and Lego has literally saved my life and if society doesnt approve then society can go to hell . lol

I had a short dark age as a late teen (sold my lego) and early twenties (studies). At age 22 I started collecting and playing Pokémon TCG. Met my pokémon-loving now-wife, and she loved collecting and playing with My Little Pony. And loved Nintendo and introduced me to Mario, Zelda, Kirby etc. I picked up Lego in 2022 and bought everything Star Wars and Classic Space. Then onto the modulars and “adult” sets. My wife enjoys (building) lego as well, as do my children. Nobody is above swooshing a space ship. Why would you (need to) lose the ability to play?
Most of my friends are into boardgames or Lego. They’re not judgemental at all about playing. My family (parents, siblings) kinda are. They’ve asked me hundreds of times “why don’t you sell -insert collection-“, because that’s what they would do, since they don’t understand. I always avoid talking about it, sunce it’s always a “waste of money”.
In the living room, I just have a bunch of modular building and spme adults sets. When people come over and ask, I just tell them I love Lego, and they’re like “oh that’s cool”.
Lego was a toy for children before the mid ‘80s, then expanded to teens (with expert sets and technic), then had a dark age in the late 90s (junior sets, bad themes), then started making sets for both children, teens ánd adult nerds from the early ‘00s (Star Wars, large sets, architecture etc) and now, early ‘20s, they’re expanding to “normal” adults. With sets like the typewriter, art sets, and especially the botanicals.
Just yesterday, at the mall, I saw advertsing for a Lego flowers set, aimed at adults (give flowers you can build together). This would’ve been absurd decades ago. Lego is becoming a sonewhat normal hobby for adults.

ADHD here: They help me Zen. Bright colors, tactile activity, and instructions that allow me to shut off my brain. I love the building process and seeing shadow form, and techniques used to make some really odd shapes. I love putting together an amorphous blob of bricks and then finally realizing what it's becoming. Knowing what the end product is going to be; knowing what my efforts are going towards reduces anxiety and registers in my as an achievable goal. And I love knowing that when it's finished, I touched and placed every single brick, giving me an odd, enhanced sense of ownership.
I love planning on how and where I'll display them. I love that every time I look at them, each one gives me its own unique boost of dopamine. I love when someone is over and is really taken aback by what they're seeing, that it's Lego, and the wonder on their face. I love being a man in his 40's and openly talking about Lego as a hobby, people giving me the side-eye about it, I show them, and they almost immediately one-eighty and understand why people dig them so much (many will also see something and say that they'd like to have one). I love that a small, but well thought-out Lego set makes an amazing and impactful gift to an adult that doesn't do Lego. (Try it some time. Get a small set, under $30 is a good price, that's meaningful to the person in some way, and just watch what happens. ❤ )
Now, why do I buy the ones I buy?
They make me happy. And, for me, it doesn't matter why. 😊

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

I just turned 30 and love LEGO. If you have a hobby that doesn't hurt anyone and brings you joy - then there is no need to ever feel embarrassed about that. After about 25 I learned that if someone takes issue with your hobby, then that is their problem, not yours, and I just won't want to spend time with them.
That said, the best way to enjoy LEGO is with my toddler. Even after I put together the UCS Razor Crest she said "wow daddy i love it! Can we play with the spaceship?". Of course we can

100% agree. It's so sad to see more and more Lego sets being marketed and intended as "display pieces", something that, once built, is supposed to be put on a shelf and that's it. Heck, even their name is an abbreviation of "play well" in Danish. Now it's just "build well" for too many sets.

I even bought a Stormtrooper mech to add an extra “tool” for the mechanics to do some of the heavy lifting.
During the building I will place the mechanics and the tools in various positions to make it look like they’re actually working on an engine or a wing.

Oh yeah, I definitely have to face the prejudice of liking Lego in my 20s, my interest in it surged again some time ago, and i started collecting again, mostly the LEGO City set, even making small LEGO City diorama (WIP) on my room with it.
I'm a bit more "liberal" with Lego though, as I not only collect Lego, but also brick stuff from other brands like Cobi, Sluban, and Sembo for my love for military vehicles as well (on a different part of the shelf) with affordable prices as LEGO is really expensive here, can't really use the brick link with affordable price sadly, despite that, in all these sets I like to "Add something" whether it's small or not, such as the LEGO City 2012 Forest Police Helicopter, I add a sliding door on the bottom of it, add a winch to make it able to lift stuff, adding net launcher to catch the baddies, even adding light to the set and giving it stand, I also do that to my other brick set from Cobi, Sluban, and Sembo, and recently I have the Sluban F-16 and been having fun times experimenting to make it looks better and more playable, making custom stand with my Lego I bought in the past and get some more from the local part seller, and make it as a custom diorama.

I didn’t really care for Lego when I was a kid. I’ll be 47 in a couple of weeks and the sets we had when I was a kid we’re too blocky for me. I grew up building plastic model kits, rockets and trains etc.. We also had erector sets Lincoln logs and something called girder and panel. I liked building but with all those but Lego was just one thing in the toy box.
I got into Lego a few years ago because the sets got very sophisticated and started looking more authentic to what they were trying to portray. I dove in totally after my dad passed away because I decided to build his MAERSK train set he had. Now every year I build a new train on his birthday and build it for him. So I ended up buying the mos eisley cantina because it was my favorite location in Star Wars and I just had to have it. The rest is history. Now I have a ton of sets and I don’t care what other people think. I’ve found out that everyone I know loves Lego and nobody looks down on it in anyway.

I'm happily building XL sets from Mould King, Reobrix, Bluebrixx, Cada and other chinese vendors for much lower prices. There are great unlicensed models related to "Jaws" or "Battlestar Galactica" or the trench run of "SW: Episode IV" and Bluebrixx just released the 4th wave of their licensed Star Trek models, and now they have Robocop and Stargate too.
Now that Lego even closed the military section of Bricklink, the only sources left are Cobi from Poland with a big selection of military ( including a "Top Gun" license) and a bunch of chinese vendors. Yes, I buy Lego now and then, but have you seen the big Jeep Wrangler from Mould King - it would be a great deal even without all the motors and pneumatics ...

I love Lego, my family knows it and i know it. My friends know it too. And i proudly come out the LEGO shop and Carry around the set i just brought.
It's the only toy I've gotten and still get to this day. Was never into action figures, Soft toys or RC (and the first one i brought immediately broke) so I've always got Lego as it was consistent and it's something my family could afford to get me without being too expensive. I had a budget of usually 90-120 but would usually go under and favour buying multiple sets rather than just one big set.
I enjoy building Lego and finding new techniques (thats why i love Speed Champions) and collect Star Wars, Ninjago, 3in1 and Technic but I've stopped moc building and only just collect sets and Display them now ofc i play with them. So I'm after stuff like UCS, Icons etc.
I also need to start some photography to capture my dioramas/displays lol.
