I have a Strat version of the Donner, I’m trying to decide if it’s better than my squire. Yeah they are pretty good. Planning on getting the Les Paul model.
Yeah I am really impressed by the quality of them, this Les Paul model deffinitley lives up to the comparable Epiphone models, and with some improvements like the binding and satin neck. I bet the strat is very similar quality to the Squires, it amazes me how good these guitars can be built for the money these days, highly recommend this model if you are looking for a very affordable Les Paul style guitar! 😎🤘
I have it and it's a fantastic guitar and not just for the price. It reminds me of an LP special with its slab body and 2 pick up design and a regular bridge not a one piece wrap around type.
Very good and thorough review. I bought the black finish 124S and am astonished at the quality. I did have to fix the fret ends as they were a bit proud of the fretboard, and I had to tweek the jack so it would hold the plug, but these are minor problems. Overall I'm very impressed and would recommend it. Years ago a cheap guitar was crap, now with CNC technology they are dimensionally nearly perfect.
To eliminate the muddy lows I just lowered the pickups by the bass strings a half turn...solves that issue. Left the treble side of pickups as is. Of course I have this guitar and totally tricked mine out. Sanded back of neck to the wood, smoothed fretboard to the feel of ebony, smoothed frets ...top and ends to buttery, brought action very tight. Guitar responds well to luthier work. I did tighten all tuner screws and front nuts too. Guitar has stock parts and outperforms many of my higher end guitars.
I was about to pull the trigger on one of these. Then I noticed the neck "pocket" is more of a neck canal, with no wood between the pickup and the neck. Over time and weather changes the neck will shift down and crush the neck pickup. Look at the pictures people posted on their Amazon reviews and you can see it has happened in several of them when they were brand new. The neck is bending the pickup ring in or downward. Very bad design! If you have one of these, I would highly recommend finding a way to sure that area up, or just glue the whole thing as a last resort.
I think that is highly unlikely that would happen. Once the neck is bolted in at the factory, that’s where it’s going to stay. Not sure what those customers are talking about, and I couldn’t find any of those statements on Amazon. The construction you speak of is not unusual. I’ve been a woodworker and guitar tech for years and never saw this happen
Just got one, same sunburst. Yeah i'm highly impressed, the thing feels and sounds great. Other than the sharp frets! After i file them down i'll be good to go. Anyone elses have some sharp frets?
It's a cheep guitar the tuning knobs have lag the frets not done well form the factory the hole guitar is far from perfect or even being concerned a good guitar but it's useable good for a beginner
I got mine on eBay, Donner "factory refurb," guaranteed. the strings were loose, the neck was not straight, and there is a hump in the frets at 2,3,4,&5. I messaged the problems, and they sent a standard reply that didn't address the problems. It was $70 with coupon, so I am going to fix it and scrape the logo off.
The quality of these cheap guitars these days is crazy. What a time to start playing the guitar :) One of these with a cheap Boss Katana or Positive Grid and youve got an awesome setup.

I paid $117 on Walmart site, great deal...truly superb sound AT ANY PRICE. I would say this Les Paulish instrument has the best sound of all the guitars in its class, including Squire, Firefly, Harley Benton, Glarry, etc..

I love the guitar, but my only complaint would be that they over did the black on the burst. And this is the cheaper model. The all black one is 200 dollars.
Yeah love this guitar, incredible what you can get these days for the money, I'm very lucky to own a nice collection of high end American guitars, but it's nice that you can get a good quality instrument for those starting out in the world of guitar, wish these were about when I first started learning! 🎸
@@AndyDoveGuitar I own a Japanese-made Jackson and Donner still sounds good if I compare. The only con is that when I bend, I feel little friction on the fretboard. Not a big deal but I wonder if you experience the same

I had one of these. Definitely an excellent instrument. The main problem was fret sprout that proved hard to control. I now have the Donner 152 which is a totally different instrument - no problems whatsoever. Andy is right about the cable - it's excellent and comes as standard with all their electric guitars. Can't comment on the small mini-amp that comes with their kits, but I bought an earlier version some years ago and it's been outstanding for quiet practice.
I built one of these replacing everything but the body and rear cover. I love this guitar. I found a matching black neck with identical binding. I went full black with all hardware. I love my strat but it's nothing close to as cool as this Flat top LP. I did spend a lot to build a Donner but I would do a second if they came back with the sea foam green color. I wouldn't mind doing a clone of mine with Alnico magnets vs my ceramic's.
General question I’m going to be purchasing the black colour of this and I want to get an amp but I live in Australia and I need an amp that’s affordable etc but good quality cos I’m into the metal/nu metal bands like Alice In Chains and I like to mix between metal and normal clean tune but I’m a begginer what amp should I look for
10-52 really sound thicc on this guitar, but a tad 'dark' for my personal taste....same exact strings my brother uses, anything lighter and he's bending notes just fretting them lmao You played 'machine gun man' xD
I got one, the tuners are shit had to change them and new strings and ajust the truss rod and action, Pickups are good. Do a bit of work on then and they are pretty good for the price.

I bought one they were reduced to £100. Turned up ok I was quite impressed lowered the bridge got the action down to about 2 mm and it rocks fair play.
Ahh nice one, you really can't go wrong at that price! Yeah same for me, I put a fresh set of strings and, tiny adjustment to action, and it's brilliant, I was surprised how good the pickups sounded too 🎸🤘

Get a cheap guitar and a NUX mighty plug, all you need, whole setup under $200
It's not cheap, it's inexpensive---big difference.
Not like when I started playing. Your parents either shelled out for a Gibson or Fender- or it was the JC Penney Christmas catalog

Not a “Junior” style though. That would be a single bridge pickup setup. It’s a LP Special layout.
