    Wow, pretty good at that price! I like your version of Tears in Heaven that you used for the clean sounds. A lesson on that at some point would be welcome. Thanks.

      Thanks Ian! Yes, I agree it's a good deal at that price. I'll put a lesson on that sometime.

    Another nice video Mark. I reviewed this one too! Funny. Just found you today. Subbed. Keep up the good work. Donner seems to make a real effort to make quality products.

    Great review . Perfect starting out guitar. I still have my Epi LP special...first electric I bought 4 years ago when I began playing. Have moved on to a PRS but still play the old girl..great rig. Nothing original left, but the body and bridge .
    GFS pups, Gotoh tuners and Graphtec nut. It played fine new and plays better now. Just celebrated my 72nd b''day; remember, you're never never too old to start playing!! Thanks Mark.

  • @jonathanhandsmusic
    @jonathanhandsmusic 3 роки тому +1

    The crappy shipping is courtesy of Amazon. But, for the price it’s a good guitar. It’s kind of like the low end Epiphone LPSpecial, with a bolt on. It’s fine someone in the market for a low priced electric with a very cool paint job. Good review. And it sounds pretty good too.

    • @MarkZabel
      @MarkZabel  3 роки тому

      Thanks. Yes, it's similar to the Epi LP Special. Definitely a beginner guitar or a "beater". But it looks, sounds and plays pretty decently. So yeah, good for its purpose I would say.

    Is there a cheap but Good jazzmaster style guitar?

    • @MarkZabel
      @MarkZabel  3 роки тому

      Good question. Squier, Effin, CNZ, Tagima ... all make copies from $200-$270 or so. I don't know if they're good. The Squier is probably safest, but check the specs carefully! Then keep your fingers crossed, because it's an Affinity - and Affinity specs change all the time!

    Yo. Not the worst shipping and definitely a decent job on inner box. The outside packing you're describing likely happened at Amazon . They get these in bulk .
    Direct to consumer Guitars like these are why it's getting harder to sell decent quality epi used etc for a good price

    • @MarkZabel
      @MarkZabel  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Doug! It was pretty bad IMHO. My understanding is that the seller, not Amazon is responsible. As a consumer, Amazon will take care of it, but they pass the cost responsibility to the seller for packaging. So at least if you order through Amazon you're safe if it's damaged - even if disappointed.
      As to the resales of Epiphones, Squiers, and other (former??) bargain brands. Yes, they've lost their grip on the bargain market, and their business model is probably more expensive. I would guess the higher end Epis (as an example) would still retain decent resale value, but the lower-end Epis won't as more and more low-end options are available.
      The price here is roughly equivalent to the lower end Epiphones, like the Les Paul Special. The parts and quality are similar and maybe a bit higher than what I've seen in the lowest end Squiers and Epis. (Big maybe. It has been a while.) BTW, I'm not talking Glarry. That's definitely extreme low-end.
      Hopefully, I'll be reviewing some higher-end products shortly. This Donner guitar was pretty decent, but still just a beginner guitar. I'm looking forward to sinking my teeth into some stuff that's really unique and good!

    Mark, how would you compare the neck on the Donner to the Epiphone Les Paul Special II?

    • @MarkZabel
      @MarkZabel  3 роки тому +1

      Similar profile. The Donner neck is maple and satin finished however.

    Donner have nothing to do with Amazon packaging. Amazon are always throwing small orders into massive boxes. IOW: If it's in an Amazon box, it came from Amazon.
    I have the Sunburst version of the DLP-124, here in Australia I paid $120 and I couldn't be happier with it. It's just incredible. Pretty sure this model is a loss-leader for Donner as they have pretty aggressively promoted the DLP-124 world wide.

    So you are streaming your vids on your website from March 9th?

    • @MarkZabel
      @MarkZabel  3 роки тому +1

      No, this won't affect the live stream or UA-cam per se. I will still have the UA-cam channel. It will still exist. For those who want guitar instruction and enjoy my UA-cam videos, it will be more interactive and fuller coverage.
      Lessons on theory, technique, timing, tone, and of course lots of "how to play X". Members will have access to in-depth livestreams, office hours Q&A and get priority on suggestions. They'll also get any additional courses I publish, such as "R&B Guitar Essentials", which I sell today on my Teachable site.
      Robert Renman's "Master Guitar Academy" is an example of such a site if you want to have a look. www.masterguitaracademy.com/
      Hopefully that makes sense.

      @@TheElrondo No problem. I struggle myself sometimes! LOL! With some channels I think it's easy, because they don't do much or give much. For example, they can say "for tab join my Patreon" or something like that. I would have to take away tab to do that, so ... Well, anyway, the member site is built out, but it will grow over time.
