Hey bro, thank you. See you the next video!
Donner: "Ryan, here's a guitar. Please don't throw it off a bridge."
The entire state of Tennessee voted on the design. It was on the ballot last fall.
I voted Flying V, i demand a recount
You're welcome
@@jeffleecust I do too
jeffleecust Oh shiz they had a flying V design? I would buy that or maybe a Explorer design
Can y’all vote in a SG this time? Lol
All these budget guitars now face a huge problem. That huge problem has a name: bullet mustang.
I just bought a CV mustang but man that Bullet mustang makes everything else hard to pass up for anyone looking for a first or a cheap fun guitar.
This guitar basically looks like it's a Bullet Mustang shaped like a Les Paul. Not a bad choice!
Yep, Bullet Mustang is an amazing guitar, I love mine!
I’m a new player, and I just got this guitar as a birthday gift from my parents! I was learning with my dad’s Fender for a bit, but I’m excited to have my own. I agree, the tuning pegs are quite finicky, but other than that, I’m loving it so far! 😊
The tuners on a Fender look alike my nephew got (whole pack was like 100 and some change) has some damn finicky tuners as well. I hate them as my Squier the tuners are far less finicky. On his I tune it for him and constantly go past it because I am used to mine. This tells me my ratio is higher than his.
Upgrading the tuners is one of the least expensive mods you can made to your guitar and should make all the difference. Locking tuners are my favorite and I recommend.
@@douglasgoodall3612 that, and this you could buy the American Vintage Fender tuner and just drop them instead likely. Those don't move, they're as solid as it gets without a needle thin pinch point, like locking tuners, and thus are offered a lot as an alternative. The catch is learning how to cut the strings for the best winding effect, and that'll take a bit to get down in a timely fasion.
I think it’s a pretty guitar. I’m picking up a black one just because I like the way it looks. You can always by locking tuners for cheap on Amazon, and they aren’t cheap locking tuners just inexpensive.
@@douglasgoodall3612 exactly.
At First, looks like Mary Spenders guitar.
Polaritypictures yeah I too thought it was her guitar
At the very least the guitar looks pretty killer. The thing that’s impressed me the most about new low to mid ranged guitars is how they can afford to do super cool finishes.
They kinda have to. Otherwise you’ll go ahead and buy an epiphone lol
To be fair, seafoam green paint costs the same as any other color lol.
tighten the tuner with the screw..
along the lines of 'little things we may notice ' ; mad respect to you for not saying 'Les Paul' this whole video or making a comparison. Not everyone gets to dominate a whole market like Gibson did, but Donner KILLS it in their price range. I'm not the target audience for this guitar, but I use their pedals at home and in studio.
Even after years later he still loves the Bullet Mustang. And someone in Squier must have heard him because almost as soon as he mentioned the white and surf green.... boom "limited" colors.
I dig it. I kinda want to get the surf green or the Shell pink for my daughter.
Well, I don't know about you. but those pickups sound killer to my ears!!
Wouldn’t that be a special and not a junior? 🤔
Agree, or a Melody Maker HB.
4:22 "I like the genital vibe of it" YOU SAID YOU CAN'T FIND THE GENITALS!!
I recently bought a Glarry Tele for around 90 dollars and found the guitar very playable. The tuning keys are very stable. If I had $160 to spend, I would by the Glarry and buy some Jamaican Blue Mountain beans with the rest :-)
Really cool playing in the beginning:) fun to open box:) not bad price point for that, probably won’t sound as good if I played it LOL
I just started seeing those on Amazon a couple of weeks ago, so I'm glad you demo'ed them. I wonder if some of the tonal quality is based on the pickup heights. The neck pickup looks cinched down, whereas the bridge pickup looks raised much closer to the strings.
Like the sound of this guitar more than those $400 guitars. More confortable playing too.
I think it's a little overpriced. 120$ at the most. I feel like after 150$ the tuners shouldn't spin while tuning. Tuning is a skill as well as playing and begginers are going to have a headache tuning that guitar.
Is it possible that the "loose tuner" he described is really just a tension screw on the tuner button that needs to be tightened?.
@@alanthompson3493 That's QC's responsibility over 150$.
@@troyl200 The point is that Ryan said "the tuners are crap, need to be replaced", when it might be a simple tightening of the tuner tension screw. He should know better if that is the case.
@@alanthompson3493 You're not understanding my point; begginers won't know that. A 10 year old might not know what's happening. They might not have access to instruction or help from better players. This is just taking the begginer into consideration.
Bridge pup sounds meh (as you said, a bit muddy). But the neck pickup is really nice! I love the color and it seems like a pretty solid and simple guitar for what it is especially given the price. I really want that color on a guitar now lol. I use to like it a lot less but for some reason I've been super infatuated with seafoam colored guitars lately. Have you seen that new LTD Eclipse 87 NT? That thing looks super nice. they have one in that seafoam like color too.
I like that surf green color it has. Pricewise, I remember seeing Donner selling this guitar for around 40-60 dollars cheaper.
Doable! as you stated: Could be a project guitar! Just depends how much $$$ one wants to put into it!
I have about every "cheap guitar" out there....except this one (Donner) I HAD to know. Yes, I have the Squier Bullet Mustang....Love the pickups. The rest was just ok when I got it. It needed a major going over and set up.
The frets were like sandpaper too.
I like it. Sounds decent and stands out from the crowd. Nice happy color and great accesories for a begginer.
Hi! Two years later ... Haha! At that time you recorded the video, I just explored the world of edrums and music production, coming from a acoustic kit being a metal drummer.
And then, since I got into these plugins and amp sims and guitar VSTs I definitely wanted to try a real guitar through AmpliTube, BIAS FX 2 and the bunch of free stuff, I grabbed a
DST-100L for 72$ (about 72€) and together with the DAW, it was so much fun. It was worth even for that one evening of fun. Some go and have dinner for 72$ I grabbed that guitar.
The DLP-124B I orders a week ago... for 142$.
And because these are so cheap guitars I am not afraid of playing with pick-up height, string action, intonation.
I have to change the strings of theses guitars and then I will polish the frets and apply some oil to the fretboard and then ... I don't know.
Today I understood the notes on the fretboard. Let's see if I could get something more out of these guitars then just powercords. :-)
I just watched you pinstripe this guitar.... tell future you that it turned out really well. 😂
Hello just came across your video awesome by the way I’m still watching but I wanted ask if you have any guitar that your not playing because I want a guitar real bad but things keep coming up that prevent me from getting one I promise I will practice EVERY DAY to become great please let me know if you can thank you in advance 🙏🏾
I would happily own this my two ukeleles by donner are superb quality and sound.there a fab company.
This is a great price.guitar for £115 for £199 I could get the Les Paul Slash AFD II
Im torn
For $160? I agree, I'd go with another Bullet Mustang. Swap out the stock 250k pots for 500k and those pickups actually sound pretty good. If you just have to have the LP shape, I'm going to cop out and say "save up" another $100 or so and get the best Epiphone you can find used on CL, offerup, reverb, etc. Then of course there are the strat and tele shapes available at this price point. So many good options for quality guitars under $200-300 nowadays.
I like your Bullet idea.... Definitely better "inexpensive" offerings out there...
That background track that you made sounds quite a bit like Go with the flow by Queens of the Stoned Age... Hhhmmmm! Coincidence? Or maybe you really like them?
Honestly for the same price I would get the Redid RD-100 semi hollow body.. but I love your videos.. that is for always being entertaining
for 160 i'd buy a squier bullet stang!
Or maybe a mini jazzmaster just for fun...
Or a Yamaha Pacifica 012,which is the best for this budget.
Not really a nasty comment like you asked for, but listening to this in the background, I now have to listen to Andres Segovia for a couple of hours to remind myself what a guitar sounds like.
For the money, I think I would go with Harley Benton, which I have yet to try. Just bought my first Fender last month. Still paying for it...
Like...you financed it? Or you regret it? Yikes on both fronts fam.
I'd probably just go with Epiphone.
I own 3 Harley Bentons now. Fantastic guitars at 1/2 or 1/3 the price of a comparable Epi. I'd take a Harley Benton over this Donner without hesitation
The Squier Mustang Bullet in surf green and Olympic white were just on sale for $129 at GC. Had to grab one of each at that price.
I picked up a sunburst version at my local Pawn America, like new condition with a tiny ding on the back of it, for the princely sum of $54 after taxes...I'd seen enough of the reviews and demos of Donner's other guitars to figure it was worth the gamble for that price...I've got a handful of leftover humbuckers that I might mix and match a set that I like to put into it as well as some nicer 500k pots, slap in some replacement tuners, throw on some leftover pickup covers and call it a day...not sure whether I'll lean towards more of a blues, metal, or classic rock tone with it as far as electronics go, I guess we'll have to see what happens with it and what direction it ends up going...
Meh. For about that you can get a Squier Bullet or Affinity for not much more, and not have to change the hardware out. Not too impressed with the looks, though the color is ok. Not impressed with the pickups. Better options out there for close to the same price. A kid might like it - my impression is almost a toy guitar a la First Act.
Some people want an LP looking guitar.
I love the Squier 51. Still one of my favorites!
Personally don't like polished frets. I like my vibrato to introduce a bit of vibration, lending to sustain.
Literally just discovered this guitar on Amazon this week while researching a beginner guitar for my sis-in-law. I was curious about it. Thanks for reading my mind Donner and Ryan! 😜 This one made it to my short list since it comes in pink. (She has a high preference on the color, so it's a little bit of a challenge. A decent beginner pink guitar is a little tough. 😋)
Don't know about their electrics but I LOVE my Luna acoustic, and I know their electrics come in pink. They are designed for women (smaller hands, etc). Nice looking guitars that play great. I've owned 3 of their acoustics, and chose one of them when husband made me cut down to one acoustic and one electric for awhile. Shhh...don't tell him I'm starting to increase the collection again.😂
@@michellelinder3721 Good to know! I pretty sure I found a pink Luna, but I wasn't sure how good they are. Thanks for the feedback. 😁 👍
4:22 - "genital vibe" Primed yourself there talking about the sex of that guitar. :D
I came here just to watch Ryan tune it up
Can you review the Indio (Monoprice) $99 blonde tele? Thanks!
Good bones. Exactly what I've been looking for. Nice modding platform.
You are not a coward and a sell out nice review. You earn my respect.
@13:17 What you missed: One critical design flaw. It has a two sided neck pocket with no wood on the neck pickup side (neck pocket + pickup cavity = all one open cavity). Every guitar I've seen like that, the neck shifts under tension, over time and crushes into the neck pickup. The Monoprice one is the same. Cryin' shame, because I really like it otherwise. The new Glarry GLP101 seems to be done correctly (from stock photos), with wood on all 3 sides.
Look at 4:06 in this video to see it happening ua-cam.com/video/KQ_wJMwh66I/v-deo.html
Excellent point/observation. Most would miss this flaw, I think. Thank you!
It sounds out of tune on OD most of the time.
I got mine on eBay, Donner "factory refurb," guaranteed. the strings were loose, the neck was not straight, and there is a hump in the frets at 2,3,4,&5. I messaged the problems, and they sent a standard reply that didn't address the problems. It was $70 with coupon, so I am going to fix it and scrape the logo off.
YIKES!
Had an sl, must disagree,,, Epiphone sl is 10x better judged on this,,,just my opinion,,,but would not dismiss the sl as a starter or especially a project
I agree, though every guitar, as we know, is likely a little different from all the others; even of that model. My experience with the Epiphone SL is very good, as yours seems to be. But I just as easily could've gotten a less satisfactory one. My Epi SL, thankfully is a keeper!
It's actually a copy of an Epiphone Les Paul special that runs 250 on musicians friends so at 160 you only saving 90 bucks.
I ordered this Donner on sale for 120.00
Is it better to live life with 2 very personal guitars or be a guitar hoe like 60 cycle hum srs replies only
pawkeet714 I have a few personal guitars, before doing this channel I think I only had like 4-5 including acoustics. All the rest kind of come with running a guitar channel and constantly making content.
I really love the finish on it so when you consider that upgrading tuners is kind of a given on a guitar in that range (at least for someone like me who's tried locking tuners and never wants to change strings without them again lol). It doesn't sound bad and seems well put together so I mean, if I was in the market for a cheap guitar to play around with the guts of, it'd be one I'd consider. Especially with the cool look. But in terms of raw value for a beginner I think a Squier or Harley Benton or something is probably the better buy at that price point.
WHO IS TENNESSEE??
Gibson has a factory in Nashville
@@donaldpruitt6787 yea Ik lol it was just funny how Ryan said that
ua-cam.com/video/LRsjafujrz8/v-deo.html
for 160 i'd probably get a bullet mustang too, because they look cool, and i had thought about it (fun modding project or so) but just never did, and ended up getting a super sonic (also already have my mustang fix via a squier vintage modified 'stang)... if some of those harley bentons, like the double cutaway, or the jazzmaster style, that were around that price without crazy covid shipping issues, maybe one of those....
Plus, when they're on sale, you can get a Bullet Mustang for $129.
I actually saw this video in time to look on Amazon and see it was still available.
"I can't find the genitals."
I’ve looked everywhere for the green
Okay...I’m saying this because I’m a few drinks in. I’m not trying to be mean, but helpful. Please work on your vibrato . Please🙏
I don’t understand why bolt on les Paul style guitars aren’t more popular. Easier time with them and they sound 90-95% as good.
My first guitar was a Les Paul 100. I love that thing so much
yeah like, I would totally play a bolt on les paul wit roasted maple
I appreciate how you treat this guitar like a $160 guitar. I've seen many other reviewers discuss Grotes, Donners, Glarrys, etc. as if they're Gibsons. Complaining about the wood grain, the slight noise from mediocre grounding, etc.
Reminds me of an old Hondo I have.
I think it's a Awesome value. I have the Tele. I'm no expert electric guitar player but I am impressed by the Tele. Great video. You helped me decide to get this one. I can't afford big $$$ for name brands.. 👊😎
What's the scale length?
If you want a killer project guitar check out the EAST COAST GT 100 it looks like a cross between a Tele and an American Fender '81 Bullet. The cool thing is you get real tonewood with a poplar body (which is used in a Gibson ES 335) poplar is medium weight and sounds like Alder ...the neck is Canadian hardrock maple (the best maple) The frets are dressed so the action is low and it feels good. It comes in black and that gorgeous cream color of the 50's Strats. The hardware and tuners are steel not a cheap alloy and the tuners are usable. In short change the PU's and you have a cool looking and sounding Pro guitar! $135.00 USD from Anderton's. A steal!
The genitals line literally got me laughing. Thanks for this video. I'm just starting out and been looking to buy my first electric guitar without breaking the bank (which is already pretty much broken 😭). Good job
Great video and demo!!!
So many better used guitars on GC used section right now I would rather spend 160 on. Beautiful blue Schecter Omen 6 for 159.99 for example...
You should see if Guitar Fetish will send you a Slick or Xavier guitar to play around with. $270 hollow/semihollow with 2 mini humbuckers, $210-220 for a tele.
For $160 I'd do Squier Mustang, Epiphone LP Special or Ibanez GAX30. I do like that color and the binding though. And I have a Donner Extreme Driver pedal I like.
What song starts at 9:39?
Just got mine and very happy-yes, well intonated and I can live with the tuners for now. Very nice action right out of the box- going to leave it as is until I need a string change, then we'll see, but great value for the price! I also like that they brand the neck plate and tuners, shows they mean business, in both senses
Gibson could just buy these repaint them slap the good old Gibson logo on them and sell them. Their customers would be like major improvement at the Gibson factory. This is totallyy worth 3 grand.
I've got 2 donner ukes and there fab really fab and padded bags fully padded loads of extras not got a guitar from them though
I want this it's £115
I dig the cheaper stuff but I am not feeling this one. Even ass a mod platform. Plenty of Epiphone Special IIs out there at that price that I think would be a better value.
I just bought a used Schecter Omen-6 for $100 (one of the earlier MiK ones from the aughts). I'd buy used.
😂😂😂
When I was 16 I bought a 1977 Ibanez Les Paul Custom for $160. A few months ago I bought one of those Grote guitars like the red one you demoed for $180. Had to put another $80 or so into it to get it to a more stable place, but I am pleased with it. I'd go with that over one of these Donners.
I like the guitar and the binding around the body. I don't like the neck binding because I like rolled fretboard edges and don't want to mess with fret tang cutter when installing frets. Other than that, it's a buy from me.
I bought the donner P bass awhile back. its not bad. it holds tune well. The pickups are a little wooly, but it does the job fine. The strap is currently on my Jaguar though. lol.
If you are interested in a low budget Les Paul style looking guitar, it might be a great choose. I like their budget pedals.
Thanks for your review. I am considering the les paul sl or this donner for my friend as a gift. Maybe even an ibanez mikro since it is also under $200. Really liking the colors though and I'm considering about getting one for myself too!
I wished you would try the Kramer Barretta Special, it’s a sub $200. Single Alcino zebra humbucker set slanted like a strat bridge pickup, wiggle stick, and that’s it. The purple looks great too
The only problem with that guitar is the fanning of the strings after the nut and putting significant side pressure on the nut. Which means the guitar will probably fall out of tune constantly because of the binding at the nut. I have a jackson js10 with the same issue. There needs to be a locking nut at the end to fix this issue and the original guitar was designed with one and not a normal non-locking nut.
With bigsby and good pickups with white color covers will be nice guitar
From Leo: Reminds me of the pathetic Epiphone SL you had in some videos. Are you going to stress test this one to the point of failure?
it's a really aesthetically pleasing guitar but for the money you're better off getting a squier most likely
Donner's strat is more appealing to me & seems to be not bad by other reviews! Definitely a project Guitar!
Rubber used to dampen any rattles. I think, lol...
Do your know the scale length?? Curious for down tuning
Donner Id love to showcase one of your guitars ! Great job man!! 👍
well its a lot better than that dean LP style entry guitar
Nope, don't fancy the guitar but I did buy the t shirt!
Sometimes your vibrato reminds me of Tiptoe Through The Tulips, Ryan. xD
I kinda like the color
Daphne blue?
its seafoamy
@@60CycleHumcast ahhh I just realised I LOVE pastel-ish colors

whats up with the flying-v with single coils?
its a parts guitar i put together. Hondo body + MIM fender neck.
@@60CycleHumcast Cool!

For the price. It looks good buy better parts for it.
