Herman can shred on a table leg with no strings. Herman is cool.
Once you've developed the muscle memory you can shred in any guitar. However, you will feel a difference from guitar to guitar. Some will still feel like they're easier to play than others. I'm of the opinion that beginners should learn on solid guitars that don't force them to develop a heavy touch or bad technique.

If you do another beginner guitar you should definitely do the Kramer Baretta Special, it has a strong modding community and is an excellent beginner guitar

Surprisingly all Donner products are good. Their pedals are superb and budget-friendly. Even their pedal power supplies are great. I've been using a donor pedalboard Supply for over two years and it is never quit yet.
Does it shred? Well, by the first five seconds of the video, yes it shreds.
A lot of beginners will start with a guitar like that, but only a small crappy amp, and no effects. Make it past them horrible tones, and you're a player for life.
I built a kit recently I got it off amazon, was $160, unless one wants to put together a kit it is better and less expensive to buy one of these or a glary or something, the work to build the kit was more work than it was worth if all one wants is an inexpensive guitar.
I want to see Herman check out Harley Bentons SC-550 plus EMG or their EX modern w/ emg's, but honestly any HB for him to review would be cool
I just bought a HB JM its so good
I bought a Donner Les Paul just like this one back in May, but it's unplayable due to the amount of fret buzz. I took it into my local guitar store and they said it could cost as much as the guitar itself to make it playable. It was built badly with the nut and bridge both at the wrong height and with the neck needing work too. To their credit though, when I contacted Donner about it, they refunded me, so it's not all bad news.
I'm still trying to decide whether to fork out and get it fixed, or just get rid of it.
You should try to fix it yourself. Filing/sanding down high frets is easily done by yourself and practicing on a cheap guitar means you don't ruin your next expensive guitar by learning a skill that will safe you time and money in the long term.
Yeah you gotta consider that they knew they were sending it to Herman and he'd be showing it off to hundreds of people live and likely thousands of people on YT and they obviously didn't even set it up THAT well before sending it to him.
Get rid of it and try an epiphone les paul special 2
@@GuillermoSmyser I think I just got unlucky. By all accounts, it's a good beginner guitar, but you do get what you pay for. Considering how quick they were to refund me, I don't think they're trying to take anyone for a ride.
@@GuillermoSmyser On the other hand there are some UA-camrs out there buying Donner guitars with their own money and receiving good quality models. On the other hand it's also not impossible to get a bad one from a "brand" company. The cheaper ones are all made in the same two or three factories anyway...

If you are an adult or young adult and can fork over $500-700 of your own, that's a really good range for tuning, intonation, and just STUFF staying in place. Herman knows when to tweak stuff and fix stuff. Most new players don't always know when stuff is fundamentally wrong. They should just have to worry about tuning every once in a while and get set ups from time to time.
Then again learning to fix/maintain things and learning what you'd like in your next guitar is a quality lesson in and of itself...
Most 500 dollar guitars are actually solid IF you level and crown the frets and put better electronic components (better pots, pick ups etc. ).

I think you made an oopsie about the bridge saddle adjustment, if it's flat, move towards the neck, if it's sharp, move away from the neck.
He said when it's sharp move towards the bridge which is the same as away from the neck. Maybe he didn't say that and I'm just hearing it that way because I know how to intonate a guitar lol

Actually if the 12th fret is checking to be sharp,..You would want to move the saddle away from the bridge pickup.
Sharp = move saddle away from neck (bridge pickup)
Flat = move saddle closer to neck (bridge pickup)

Wat is the best amp n guitar for beginners
I bought a Black Donner and I really only picked this particular body because of it's cavity size. You can easily add a 9V battery to these. The Fishman universal 9V battery is a perfect addition for donner dlp-124 bodies. A normal 9v can be fasted inside with a 9v metal bracket. So for adding active picks to any other Special 2 type bodies isn't as easy. I bought all black hardware for mine and a black neck. I didn't add active pickups to mine but I will. I want Fishman Fluence and their universal 9V. I did buy a Schaller bridge, Schaller aluminum tailpiece, invader pickups with cts push pull pots, with a pure tone jack. Hipshot Schaller style tuners, Graph tech nut, Schaller switch ring and Schaller strap locks. Everything is black down to the plates and screws. I've only received my switch so far and the anticipation is driving me a bit nuts but I shall see how this does with all the goodies slapped on it. This is my first build and I just couldn't find a guitars that I didn't want to change things on. For some reason people don't sell blacked out guitars. I rebuilding an AXL strat i had also but not quite as in depth as the donner. I can't wait to see how they both sound after the mods. I also got 2 types of grounding cavity shielding, copper foil and the carbon paint. strat will get the foil and the donner gets the paint. Mostly because the strat has all brass tremolo pieces and i think it will look amazing... under that cover :(
