This song should have been a big hit. Someone should cover it now. Man, Phil Ehart is truly a musician's musician. Billy Greer has been with Kansas since 86 and is a superb contributor with his singing and playing. Kansas means "people of the south wind" btw. Therefore this song is really the band's anthem. "It's just a state of mind!"
I was actually shocked to see that this video is 8 years old. I didn't realize Ronnie Platt had been lead singer that long. Time really flies.... Great song and I really like that this lineup has some great setlists that pull from some of their deeper tracks. One of the times I saw them they did Icarus II and went into Icarus. I've seen this lineup twice, and they are great live. I know a lot of people will say it's not Kansas without Walsh, Livgren, and Steinhardt, but this lineup really pulls it off well and I'd say give them a chance. I feel like a hypocrite because I feel like Yes should give it up at this point, but I enjoy Kansas continuing on.
This is a VERY good version of a great song! Imagine how difficult it must be to take on the lead vocal parts that Steve Walsh created. Almost impossible, yet their “new” singer does a fantastic job!!! He is very slightly pitchy on just a few notes in the first verse, but after that, he is stellar! He is especially GREAT on the vamping that Steve did on the chorus answering the main vocal line! VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!!
Steve sounds GREAT on this one! (And of COURSE the band themselves ROCK!). I was lucky enough to meet Steve on two occasions & let me tell ya - THE COOLEST GUY you could ever hope to meet! We hung a good 10 minutes or more & he even gave me a slice of his pizza! Just a FIRST CLASS bunch of guys, all of 'em!
You got me there - at the time I posted that comment, I thought Steve was still with them, and to be fair, he does KINDA look like a younger Steve, in a slightly outta focus sort of way! :^)
Great songs must be played by qualified musicians like them. It does NOT have to be original members especially singers. I've seen aging original singers no longer able to hit the notes. Just like classical music, it must be passed onto next generations.
Kaleb Webb he hasn't sounded the same since 02 03 04 05 after Robby left my opinion and I mean second time round his voice went downhill but the current Kansas line up is actually really really good a musical treat live they've all said its re invented the band I'd go see them in a heartbeat
Not much more then a Tribute Band. The two original members left in the band (Rich Williams and Phil Ehart) had very little to do with writing and creating any of the music they are known for.
Ronnie Platt is mean ,and big headed ,...he wouldn't talk to me when i was a vocalist in the biz...plus...he stole the band away from me.. Phil Collins tribute, Genesis, which i studied so hard to get his feel, sound and ... the real vocalist is Steve Walsh...he has "AMAZING FEEL"!!!!:)!!!!.. I studied Steve Walsh's vocal close
I always love this song. I keep playing it as many times I can.
R.I.P.. Robbie steinhardt one the original founding members of Kansas
Big man, big hair, big talent.

One of my all time favorite Kansas songs! From Kansas Monolith (People Of The South Wind)
I've met both Steve Walsh and Ronnie Platt. They both did great shows. After my meet and greets. A big fan of both great singers.
Great song, Kansas doesn’t do this song enough

Ronnie is really good! Having said that no one will ever be better than Steve walsh. Listen to "hold on" studio version.
Fantastic song.
I seen em 8 times in my life... awesome.... one of my top 5... shivers up n down the spine...if you seen them, you know...
Sadly, this is NOT Kansas
Agreed 💯 2 times I saw them in KC and they were fantastic 🤩🥰💕
This is a great version, great signing by Ronnie... yes, he's not SW but still very good indeed. Great to see that they're still doing shows in 2021

Sadly this is not Steve Walsh. His voice faded....

his voice sounded great on his last tour.
Check out Steve's album Black Butterfly that was released in Nov. 2017, his voice is spot on!
I love how they first went into a rockin' drum beat intro before going into the song.
wow!!!!! excelent vocals!
Where was this stop on the Kansas tour? Was rather bummed that they didn't play this sound in Orlando

Ronnie has a well-built voice for Kansas , but it is not powerful enough...and we mustn't forget the performance for his voice
I know Ronnie Platt...im a vocalist...he never studied vocalist close for feel,...&... deep tone...
Great Kansas
Ronnie is NO Steve.
Steve himself has sounded terrible for at least fifteen years
Kaleb Webb he hasn't sounded the same since 02 03 04 05 after Robby left my opinion and I mean second time round his voice went downhill but the current Kansas line up is actually really really good a musical treat live they've all said its re invented the band I'd go see them in a heartbeat
Nobody is a Steve. But I like Ronnie better than Elafonte.
Agree 100%. This is not Kansas.
Ronnie Platt rocks!
hes a big head
Was this Amateur night? Just not the same!
Go figure. Bad cellphone camera footage doesnt have the best audio quality. 😱
Come on the lead is so importatnt to the song.

You actually edited this comment and it still reads like it was written by an uneducated child. I hope you never reproduce.
