NASA Team Captures Hayabusa Spacecraft Reentry
- A group of astronomers from NASA, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and other organizations had a front row seat to observe the Hayabusa spacecraft's fiery plunge into Earth's atmosphere. The team flew aboard NASA's DC-8 airborne laboratory, packed with cameras and other imaging instruments, to capture the high-speed re-entry over an unpopulated area of central Australia on June 13, 2010. The Japanese spacecraft completed its seven-year, 1.25 billion mile journey to return a sample of the asteroid Itokawa.

It's a miracle that the Hayabusa made it back considering all the problems it encountered during the course of the 7 year mission. The most amazing part for me is how it completed the mission with half of the original engines operating.
@Nadol Hadee but that was only amination nd this is real footage
Thank you,NASA!
We Japanese appreciate for such a beautiful video.
Wow, it's truly stunning. The color of his reentry capsule bears a striking resemblance to that of the real Hayabusa (Peregrine Falcon), with its graceful transition from pristine white to a mesmerizing shade of grayish-blue.
@silentgi771..When Hayabusa re-entered the Earth's atmosphere, it was to the left of the constellation called Coma Berenices. The comment "Left of Coma, left of Coma" is a call to the people with less sensitive instruments where in the sky the capsule could be viewed. The bright object (upper left) that breaks up is the spacecraft ("Bus breakup") and the small bright dot in the lower right is the sample canister that has a heat shield to protect it and is what was recovered on the gorund.
Hearing news about Hayabusa 2's capsule's return, I review this video. Can't believe this was 10 years ago, I still have very clear memory seeing this little sad (because this means the death of Hayabusa probe vehicle) but yet very brilliant beautiful light.
Thanks a lot NASA
the moment Falcon becomes Phoenix.
Amazing technology, i wouldn't even have a clue how you can send control signals 1.25 billion miles away. Can't wait for their findings!
Great job JAXA!! Go Japan!!!
very beautiful. first time to see a real spacecraft re-entering Earth's atmophere.
Thank you very much NASA!!
we japanese could see the beautiful re-entry of Hayabusa.
As Japanese TV does not show and inform us about Hayabusa so much, we are so happy that you provide and took a great video like this.!
There are just little news about hayabusa.....
Thanks,NASA.
Thank you NASA.
I have been very impressed.
All re-etrees should be done during the night time.Great upload.
That's a lot of wishes
Just spectacular! What a marvellous achievement!
Thanks a lot for NASA!
I never forget HAYABUSA.
wow is very beautiful!
It was awesome to watch!
this is so beautiful
That is amazing. I never knew there was a successful asteroid sample return mission by the Japanese.
The sampler did not work as intended and they were very lucky to get anything back at all, effectively the "nose" of the sampler inadvertently captured some particles when the spacecraft landed on the asteroid for ~30 minuites, and they "closed" the "nose", literally just hoping some particles got swirled into the nose. Definitely not the way it was intended to collect samples, but they did recover a tiny amount, something less than gram of material, but some is better than none!
@@c.james1 we can atleast call it path finder if nothing else.
It showed that this is possible nd now hayabusa2 mission sample is on the way nd original aircraft is on journey to 2nd asteroid. Its a technology marvel.
Nd nasa also collected sample from asteroid bennu.
So the next decade is going to be mars nd asteroid exploration
Amazing. And beautiful.
Thank you NASA.
That's beautiful.
Amasing video!
Thanks!

Awesome!
Thank you NASA team!
It was my favorite meteorite video for years! Lost track of it and went through my video history for an hour, didn't find it. Got suspicious when seeing other "meteors" identified as reentries, similar to the Columbia tragedy. It was more beautiful than Chelyabinsk though not as spectacular an event. Then I saw someones comment about the Hayabusa reenty. At that moment I realized it was not the breakup of a meteor but of one of our many satellites, manmade.
nice work jaxa
great job!!
A please happy memory must remain at the last moment of him.
It was the really beautiful end.
Thank you for a lot of impression.
Nice work! Great view.
@hh5944 This mission is related to Kamikaze really. Mr. Itokawa was a designer of Hayabusa, the Imperial Japanese force fighter plane some which applied to Kamikaze attack mission to crash American warships. He was forced to change the job after the war and became rocket designer. Asteroid Itokawa was named after his achievement of Japanese space engineering. The spacecraft was named after his plane of course. And now, both Japanese and Americans celebrate the reentry. To the peace, cheers!
Thank you ! NASA !
Just awesome!
Hayabusa makes for pretty fire works!
I always wanted to see this
(Getting memories of Cassini)

Great job Japan!
Cool Shot!
Amazing
NASA's DC8-73, which recorded this video, visited Nagoya Airport in 2000.
And it happened to line up with the MU300, which performed a zero gravity test of the sampler horn.
Real amazing scene, thank you NASA! Great job JAXA!
Welcome home!
Well done JAXA
Another step forward for mankind .
