After high school sweethearts die in a tragic crash, a Secret Santa has a poignant gift delivered

The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season.
Anayi Lopez, 17, and Gerardo Garcia, 18, died in a car crash on Dec. 10. Anayi was six months pregnant and the baby also passed away. Anayi would have turned 18 on Dec. 20.
Both families came together for a joint funeral and are facing the holidays without these young people who were taken far too soon.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves if we would pay them a visit with a gift. Check out the video in the player above.

The father was still shocked and awaiting to be awaken from a terrible reality. I’m sure he’s very appreciative and feels loved but he appeared to really be in that mode where no matter how much money you could give him he’s still waiting to wake up and see his son again. Wish both families the very best and somehow hope they find peace.
Yes I can see the pain he is going through, numb. I hope he has strength everyday. I hope he finds comfort everyday he walks this earth. I know he appreciates the gift but when you are going through the hardest things in life it’s hard to be present.

Those were my thoughts also.
As a journalist, I once went through a course for reporters. They taught us a lot of technical skills, taught us how to pronounce words correctly, how to look in and out of the camera. But no one taught us what sets Nate Eaton so much apart from other reporters: incredible empathy, thoughtfulness, emotional support, sensitivity and understanding when to end a visit. I think these things should be taught, and the EIN videos with Secret Santa should be teaching tools. The journalism world needs more Nate Eatons (and less Fox News).
Well said! 👍 I think that natural empathy is one of those things that you either have or you don't, but a communication module would be a great idea - how to conduct interviews, how to show that you are listening, how to use different types of questioning and vocal tones to get the answers you need, how to relay appropriate sympathy and read a situation. Here in the UK, these modules are taught to both doctors and nurses, so the teaching tools are there. Shouldn't be difficult to transpose them from a medical situation to a journalistic situation.
We absolutely need more people like Nate - not just for Secret Santa, but also his fantastic journalism, that helped lead to a proper investigation (and the conviction, in my opinion) of Lori Vallow Daybell. Worlds different to the clickbait outrage content that certain channels go for, designed to hide the truth instead of bringing it to light...
I would also add to that list: NBC news, ABC news, CBS news, CNN, and MSNBC.

I feel her grief and devastation….it’s something that you truly can’t imagine until you have it experienced it too. It’s been 19 yrs since we lost our son in a freak accident, just before Christmas, and it’s hasn’t gotten easier with time, if anything is harder. It’s one thing time will never heal…. For me anyway. 💔
I am so very devastated for both these families, I wish I could take their pain away, nothing sadly will bring back their beautiful young adults who were about to embark on the journey of life with a baby of their own, it’s just so, so, sad, and to loose a grandchild as well adds even more grief to the mix. It’s unimaginable to loose so much, I just wanted to give that mum a huge hug, this bought back so many memories and had me in tears watching, how could anyone not be moved by the loss for both these families. 💔💔💔

Unfortunately there are no drugs or words that will ease her pain. Time softens the raw grief but it will never heal the wound that's been inflicted. As far as your tears ... As a mother who has lost a child, that woman is in pain. There will be a missing piece to the puzzle of her life. No; the pain never goes away. You just learn to deal with it. My sons been gone three years now. I miss him every minute of everyday. Holidays and birthdays are truly the hardest. I just sat here and cried my eyes out for that woman. God bless her!

These poor families to lose such young children and what was supposed to be their future grandchild so tragically. Seeing the second lady with her grief was simply heartbreaking. Little girl in the first clip was adorable. I, too, wish these families the best Christmases possible and to hopefully find peace.

This one tore me apart....I literally started bawling when the mom lost it. For both families to loose a child and an unborn infant before Christmas I can't imagine rhe loss they are feeling. The parents of the young man will have try their best to make Christmas joyful with that young child came out. My most deepest and condolences to both families.

I struggled getting through this video, but cannot come close to imaging the feelings you must have had to process both when you suffered your tragic loss, but then again when watching this clip. I disagree. Paying for the funerals was a wonderful gift, anything else would have been disrespectful. You don’t give material presents to people that have lost a child.

💔💔 That mother’s pain. I saw that same pain in my own mother when we tragically and unexpectedly lost my youngest sister on Thanksgiving of all days. She was only 35. She left behind 3 children and her husband. I felt so helpless when I saw my mom at her most vulnerable. You never truly recover from these kinds of losses. You just … kind of… sort of… learn how to somewhat navigate forward alongside the grief. - My heart goes out to both of these families.

A Dear Friend just brought me to a special Blue Christmas Church Service tonight. It was for anyone with loss, Grieving. I've been stuck for many months in my grief, a tremendous loss. My heart breaks for both families. I can clearly remember when our 23 year old son died on Dec.7th in 1991. Thankfully our dear dear friend bought us a beautiful Christmas tree. They rang the doorbell and tried to get away. That was so sweet. We wouldn’t have bothered about a tree or anything except we still had an 11 year old child at home.
Those heartbreaking sobs from the girl’s mother. Took me right back. God bless and comfort both families. 🙏🏻

I've been feeling somewhat down, sad and stressed for the financial and health situation my daughter and I are going through, specially being holidays, don't want to get evicted, and not having groceries it's just so hard but we're alive and grateful for everything no matter what, because others don't have the blessing to have their love ones anymore which I'm deeply sorry for their valuable loss and that is why I'm grateful to God for still having my only daughter with me.
