Secret Santa surprise for family who lost everything, even son's accordion, when home was destroyed

The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season.
Valera and Galina are the parents of three kids between 9-16. They recently came to the United States from Ukraine.
They had a home, which is very rare in Ukraine (most people live in apartments), but it was destroyed by a Russian tank.
Valera was a construction worker and Galina was a nurse. They’ve had many friends, family members, and close associates killed as they are from Bucha, where a large-scale massacre of Ukrainian civilians occurred. Bucha is just outside of Kiev and was the site of some of the fiercest fighting since the Russians invaded.
When the Russians left, hundreds if not thousands of dead Ukrainian citizens were found in the area. There were signs of torture, abuse, and other unspeakable events. This is what they left behind.
Valera and Galina lost everything and ended up in Idaho Falls where Valera works in construction and Galina worked in a potato cellar. The kids are in school and all of them are adjusting to their life.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to pay Valera and Galina a visit - and we brought a special guest with an accordion for their 9-year-old son. Check out the unforgettable surprise in the video player above.

We take our peace for granted in the U.S. Mom was grateful to not have rockets going off and her children are safe. Please do an update with this family in the next year.
Yes! As a mom and gramma, that part made me cry!
Then please support all efforts to get gun controls passed into law. Recently Republicans voted down a bill to get a ban on rockets launchers for ordinary civilian use. How is this possible for a civilised country? This is a slippery slope and could end up destroying the peace you take for granted.

@Maisiewuppp our country is not attacked BECAUSE our enemies know there is a gun behind each blade of grass. Weapons in the hands of law abiding citizens help protect and preserve the peace. If you take the weapons from the people, as was done by the Nazi's and even today, North Korean's, you will live under an oppressive dictatorship and have no voice. A gun never killed anyone by itself, there was always someone who wrongfully or rightfully pulled the trigger. If you say prayers, thank our police officers, our US military servicemen and women, and our law-abiding citizens for your safety today. Oftentimes just the presence of a lawfully carried weapon by a law abiding citizen is enough to prevent a crime from occurring or someone from becoming tragically injured.

Yeah, it crossed my mind that in Idaho there are no tanks blowing up their home and then she said "no missiles". That almost broke my heart. We Americans have no idea. Cross your fingers about how our politicians ........ ah, never mind.
Wonderful help…we have 1,1 Million refugees from the ukraine in Germany, and they are all financially taking care of and receive free socialized medical care
Like others this one really touched me! One them wanting to give food reminded of my own ethnic roots. The young man who nominated them to realize they might need help and why we need to support Ukraine and be Thankful for our democracy and awake and mindful to keep it!

It has me sobbing as well. I am Polish, I live in peaceful Sweden, and I speak Russian, so it was extra interesting. The former missionary did well.
I hope every Ukrainian on this country feels so welcome. I hope they feel at home. They’re fully welcomed here in this country. I hope one day they’re able to go back to their homes and be safe, free, happy, and secure. But until them, or if they choose not to.. this is home.
This Ukraine family is so warm and hospitable. They are good people. Good they are given gifts because they need it badly.

This one brought back a flood of memories from my youth. Visiting family and friends in many European counties and how generous the people there are. You never visit without being offered tea and pastries. I loved this family. I hope this new adopted country and especially Idaho, brings them happiness and peace. I think they will thrive here. May God Bless this family. Thank you Secret Santa for giving them these gifts. My paternal and maternal grandparents immigrated from Ukraine to Canada in the early 1900's. I was blessed to have grown up in Canada where there were no wars. Now living in the US it is still a reatively safe place to live. I am proud of my Ukrainian heritage and am so happy to see this family is safe here now. I had to laugh when they offered food to their guests - before they left - not because it's funny but because it's so heartwarming. We used to go visit my dad's aunt and we'd be inside the door barely 5 minutes and she's fillng the table with food and sweets! You never leave a Ukrainian home hungry!

I am writing this comment from Canada. We have neighbors who came from the Ukraine years ago and they have taken in a refugee family. They now live in a basement with their 2 boys and themselves. I am so happy secret Santa could help this beautiful family.
Every single day opportunities are presented to us and we have to make a choice. What if the missionary just said nothing? This family would have missed out on all these blessings and their prayers would have gone unanswered. God works through each and everyone of us. A conversation, so simple. How alone they must have felt with not hearing their own language being spoken - and now - a connection has been made. May we each be brave enough to follow the urging of the still quiet voice within prompting us to step out and love one another. WE have all just witnessed a Christmas miracle. That is what makes me furious, the flagrant disregard and disrespect for the millions of lives lost so that Americans and Europe can live as free people. The arrogant and entitled people in America that speaks so lightly about civil war, must spend a month in Ukraine or the Gaza strip and see what they say then.

What a lifeline this former missionary must be to this family. I cannot imagine how overwhelmed they must feel in a new country with a new language. To meet someone who understands them must feel amazing. I love that Nate brought him to translate!
