The problem with relying on the BMI charts is that it doesn't take body type and bone structure into consideration. I used to be so skinny that when people looked at my face they thought "skeleton". But according to the BMI I was still 5 pounds OVERWEIGHT. I weighed 140, but according to the BMI, the top weight for my height was 135. But that didn't take into consideration my large bone structure. Even though I had a 20½" waistline, my bones were STILL so large I had to wear a man's watch, since a woman's watch was just to small.
My best friend on the other hand, had a small bone structure. She was at the bottom of the BMI for her height, and was still OBVIOUSLY overweight.
The BMI is just an approximation, an average. There ARE people that are outliers that the BMI doesn't take into account; it COULDN'T or the spread would be so wide as to be meaningless.
Please use other methods to determine that your weight is optimal than JUST the BMI. My health suffered from trusting the BMI, it had me SEVERELY underweight, and undernourished to the point I looked anorexic. And now I have trouble loosing weight because my body slows down my metabolism rather then allowing me to loose weight. That's a common anatomical reaction when you've been too thin before. When there's not enough calories to cover your needs, your body slows metabolism rather than losing weight.

@@juliebaker6969 I totally agree with you. The ketogenic lifestyle is self regulating. It allows your body to lose or gain what is needed for homeostasis. The BMI is pretty irrelevant IMO.
Same with your blood chemistry. You follow ketogenic or low carb lifestyle, your chemistry regulates itself for optimization.
The only thing I disagree with is, people chasing a target number for blood pressure. I researched this a long while back and learned that the parameter for a healthy BP wasn't devised by doctors and scholars, but the pharmaceutical companies. They're the ones that paid their way to lower numbers. They get to cast a wider net and get more and more people on meds. The data is out there for anyone to research. Does anyone really think it logical that a 6'5 250 lb football player should have the same BP as a 5'3 115 lb women. Of course not!. BP should be different for different body types and whatever stressors are happening at the moment your BP is taken. There's a lot of factors involved.

P.S. -- The both of you should do blood work NOT saliva test to see what
number your APO-E-Gene is. The number 2 means you "need to eat fats" to
avoid certain illnesses that lead to death and the number 4 means that you
will get different illnesses if you eat fats of any kind, which also lead to
death. Then there is the #3, which means that you have to eat a Low Fat
diet. Then there are sub categories, ie: 2/3 or 3/4.

The AIP diet is actually really helpful, but also being aware that there are different inflammation triggers and not everybody reacts to different foods the same. When you go to the allergist they give you a blood test and sometimes it comes back that you are sensitive to egg whites or peanuts. There are a lot of factors here to consider, but ultimately checking your inflammation levels with a blood test will give you a good indication of how you're doing.

Examples of these factory seeds oils are Crisco, cottonseed oil, corn oil, canola, soybean, safflower seed, sunflower seeds, peanut oil, rapeseed oil and more. They are made from being heated and then chemically treated in a variety of ways to make them palatable. They are omega 6 of which our bodies only need a very little bit of to begin with. Since they are in all processed foods and the oils that most people cook with with we have way way too much and it harms us. We need more omega 3s and way less of omega 6 and then always from a natural source (like a few of healthy nuts or whole seeds). Just eat whole foods to be healthy. 😀

We have been told for years that if we eat fats we will increase our cholesterol. Turns out that doesn’t happen. We don’t digest fats. We digest carbs and that unused portion goes straight to the liver if you are healthy and turned into fat which is then deposited all over. Cholesterol is fat that is made by our own livers!

I’m, unfortunately, not able to homestead. I don’t eat out anymore, though I could - food is just tastier and healthier and far less expensive at home. I can easily go to parties, generally bring something carnivorous that I can eat, or just skip eating. Not many parties in my world anymore, and I don’t drink alcohol. Many typical social interactions are less of an option, so still a work in progress for me… wish I knew some local homesteaders I could visit, and perhaps help out, in my area

Most people have no idea why carnivore lifestyle works so well. It's because we were never taught about the 4th stage of water anywhere. Professor Gerald Pollack discovered the ez gel (cold plasma). The ez gel is locked into animal fat. Look up George Wiseman on youtube. I went carnivore for a week and got too sick. I couldn’t even eat and the smell of meat and eggs repulsed me. I think I was going through sugar and carb withdrawal, oxalate dumping and detoxing. I added carbs back in and feel much better. I downloaded the carb manager but I let myself go low carb at first to ease into it. I stay under 50 carbs most days or barely over. It’s only been a couple weeks but I’m losing weight and inflammation. I feel a lot better so I’m excited to see how I feel a few months from now. I have a lot of health issues is why I backed off but I’m striving for lower carbs in the future.

I can eat sweet potatoes, a half apple etc but can't eat rice, most breads, white potatoes. That has really helped me. Sorry so many are giving you grief, one of my sisters does me too but your doing what you think is right for you. On Keto since July, and lost 26 lbs so far. Down two sizes, and halfway to my goal. I find it easy, since I love meat, cheese and eggs. I allow myself 1 cheat day a month. I have serious osteoarthritis, and until I started this,I needed a cane to walk anywhere . No more. I feel better and look better!

Way to go! I don't cheat hardly ever anymore...just not worth being sick for days and days and all the bubble guts and pain. No thank you! I'm glad you are feeling so much better.

Congratulations! I did keto for a couple years just before I retired which was just as covid hit. While in lock downs and being isolated becauseoflivingalone, I sadly slipped back into my old ways. Thank you for the inspiration to change back! You both look SO healthy along with the numbers to prove it!! Again, congrats!

that's totally awesome… Best thing you can ever do. I think you can look at those who were questioning you and say OK well, where is your health. Our doctors are not telling us the truth they have fallen into program that involves you being an unhealthy, having to have medicine and your life short. You'll never be the same. I was keto for a couple years and now I'm carnivore and I had fibromyalgia and it's almost all gone. It's amazing I didn't tell anybody for a while because I was in shock that it really happened. If you don't wanna be diabetic, you don't wanna have pain running through your body, because of inflammation, or some dire sicknessmake some changes. Thanks for getting out there and telling the people your situation.

For over a 1 year we were as strick KETO as you are. Now we have added more fruit and organic potatoes. I now make my sourdough organic breads. So far so good. Keto defiantly was a great way to learn to eat better. :)

Fantastic video! I have a few friends who do keto, yet, I could not believe it. In July- you two did a video and I was BLOWN away on how Sarah looked. She spent the entire video kind of putting her hands on her jeans and we laughed she was almost still getting used to her tiny new jeans. Truthfully, our mouths were both agape. I was SOLD. My husband and I had put on a few lbs during the pandemic, and bad habits crept up and threw a few more on top.
Keto since the end of July- we have both lost 20+ lbs each. My heaviest was 152 and at 5'3- I was dropping into depression, which I've never experienced. I refused to buy bigger clothes- so I had only a few outfits. This morning my scale told me I was 129. My goal was 135! We cheat here and there- and didn't even realize we have switched to intermittent fasting- it just happens.
We had a bumper crop of watermelon, cantelope and honeydew, grapes, apples etc. The birds and friends are still eating well. I concentrate on tomatoes and peppers like you folks. Zucchini etc. We still enjoyed the garden harvest!
I had my bloodwork done just last week, as my doc told me she sees folks levels go up. My bloodwork was exactly the same as it has been my whole life- normal. I'm 49.
Thanks for the kick in the pants ;) it worked.

    Congratulations to you both!
I changed to ketovore a few years ago and dropped from 235 to 185. Also, the sleap apnea went away. Pre diabetes went away. All of those little skin tags and bumps we get as we age are gone. Toenail fungus went away. I no longer crash at 3:00 in the afternoon. Never feel hungry. It's been amazing. My cholesterol is a tick high, but nobody in my family has ever died of anything cholesterol related. Diabetes and dementia has killed everyone in my family that any of us can remember.

The two of you gave a great explanation of your new lifestyle. I do bloodwork twice a year and I can tell you both that your lab results were exceptional good.

I started Intermittent fasting 8 months ago as a pre-diabetic. I’ve lost 55lbs and my A1C has gone from 6.5 to 4.2. I’m not following a strictly keto diet but eating low carb seems to be a natural progression when living a fasting lifestyle. I’m still learning new things every day but it has been life changing for me. I’m 49 years old and I don’t remember ever feeling this good. 😊

You guys are awesome and I have been watching for years! It has came full circle for me having watched you guys for 3 - 4 years and just this past January starting my journey down the keto/carnivore rabbit hole. I am sure you have saw him, but if not, find Dr Ken Berry! There are many others but Dr Berry has already answered any questions you may have. Stay strong and keep the faith. God Bless.
