Love the way the cattle come to you, even when you don't have a treat for them. Your videos are so fun to watch and I can learn a lot from you both. Keep cozy and warm by your wood burning stove. God bless you both.
Honestly, most wd never think to provide toys & activities for their contained (bored) creatures, but it relieves $tress & maintains their Health. Bless You for so loving them.
💚 Looks very chilly, while thinning a few trees for the Quail, who enjoy nature being brought to them! Thanks for the tutorial on your awesome wood stove, what a quality piece of craftsmanship. Stay warm. 💚
Loved how the cows came to see you. They sure are friendly. The information about the wood stove and fire was really interesting. Thanks for giving us a look at your everyday life.
@@WooBino. "Animals are people... they should not be chopped up and eaten." Animals are not people. All your religion does is cause starvation, hunger, and death. My chimney guy taught me a trick when starting a woodstove: point your torch up the chimney to displace the falling cold air with rising hot air, just a few seconds, then light your wood/paper/cardboard. It works, no more smoke coming back. Long time subscriber, watch every episode (from SW MO).
Congratulations on 800k! You two are one of my very favorites. I just love spending time with you on the farm. When you were building this home I was almost as excited as you were watching it all come together.
We also have a fire wood cart to bring in wood. We secured a piece of plywood to the bottom area. Ours also came with a strap that goes from the upper rail to the lower rail so more wood can be put in right up to the top rail. On occasion, we put recycling bins on the bottom and the hump and add the wood to those. Makes for fewer trips into the house. I have also wheeled the wood cart right into the house to bring the wood over to the wood stove. The wood cart is a very useful tool. I have a wood rack inside for a least a days worth of wood. I'm so glad we got it. I also collect twigs for starting the fire. Great video! Thanks for letting us know how you prep for bad weather. I'm also a bottom up fire builder. We had registered Holsteins. Our cows always came to us if we were out around the pasture. They loved to be scratched behind their ears and around their neck. Thanks again for a great video!
I really enjoyed the trees for the quails, you guys always do a great job of teaching us good practices. The wood stove info was super helpful. Hope you guys stay warm and safe with the expected weather!
You brought a smile to my face. I could hear my Father-in-Law teaching his grandkids about kindling, day sticks, and night chunks… and you better NOT use one of his night chunks during the day 😉
My rescue French BullDog just loves sitting on the end of my recliner and watches all the animals.. He specially loves your new calf.. I have pictures of him episode after episode... Sitting with his ears up and at full attention.. Would love to send you a picture or 2.. You have a fan by the name of "Gus".. He was a God send.. someone set him on our back porch last March 1st. He still had puppy breath and baby teeth coming in... Anyway, he loves sitting with me watching your awesome Homestead projects.. Cheers Y'all..
What a great video. Loved seeing the quail enjoy their new hiding spaces within the trees and the cattle look so healthy and calm. What great stewards you both are. I love watching your videos. God Bless!
We love our wood stove. Got ours from Hechler Hearth and Home in Troy, Missouri. We also had our pro installed. Your cows are just beautiful and so sweet looking. You all always taking good care of all your animals. Enjoy the wood heat, it’s great.
My parents built a ranch house with a full basement. They had a wood stove in the basement and didn’t insulate the floor so the heat just came up through the floor.
I love the inside of the aviary. It's so natural and inviting for the quail. I also love how the cattle came right up to you thinking that they were going to get special treats. Thank you for the detailed information on how to use a wood stove.
Kevin and Sarah, we have a wood burning stove also. I thought you might be interested in what we use to clean the windows while the fire is still burning. Our stove is about 40 yrs old so I doubt if it burns as clean as yours! But we use my mothers old fox tail brush. (It's actually horsehair!) Each time we feed the fire we reach in and rub the windows with the brush. It takes a bit of elbow grease but not bad! We've used it for this purpose for about ten years with little or no wear and tear. We do have to use leather gloves and a clear face protector.
Great video. My Grandson and I look forward to watching your videos together b4 he goes to school Wednesday mornings. Its so good to have something GOOD to watch. Also, educational. I grew up in this manner but love having him see good home living! We live in Upstate Ny, had about 7 onches of snow over this past weekend. Last night some high winds and quite a bit of rain. No snow day here today. I pray your weather didn't get to bad either. Have a great week. God bless
That wood stove makes for a very great humidifier - with a pressure cooker/canner and water placed on top. The stove heats up the pressure cooker which then spews out pressurized steam. Steam has a very high heat-retention - keeping the house warmer with less energy expended. Also steam in the house for those very dry and cold blustery winters - humidifies the dry house air, but also the sinus and lungs - preventing dry nose, dry eyes, colds, influenza, and pneumonia. Any addition of any desirable essential oils - apple/cinnamon, peppermint, mint, orange also provides healing and healthy humidified air - and the atomized essential oils also keep down any airborne dust (soil blight virus and hay dust, dandruff, ...) and other bacterial/germ/viral/mold/mildew/fungal diseases wafting around - and is also a good ridder of small critters that might want to take up winter residency in the warm house - spiders, mites, cockroaches, silverfish, ants, termites, earwigs, flies, lice, louse (hopefully not ticks) ... (just saying !!).
You can also use dryer lint and wax or vaseline. You both look amazing with your weight loss! I can really see it in your face Kevin! Keep up the great work ❤
I love your wood stove. One of my grandmas cooked on a wood burning stove and she had another wood stove in her living room. I loved how her house smelled when she burned the wood.
Thank you for the fire stove lesson. I plan on getting one soon. Love the cattle helping you with the trees. We had an angus when I was a kid that was so tame we rode her and took her over the horse jumps. She was a hoot.
Love our wood stove. The heat that comes from it is so different than our propane heater. And I like the fact that it heats up the bricks and they stay warm. We restart in the morning also.
Kevin & Sara, Hey there. Quick note. Kevin spoke of the old old pine tree. When a pine tree gets old like the one he showed-it is not good for saw logs. It is called a bull pine. It is of no value $ wise. It looks good to look at. Have a wonderful day. I love you. Dewayne Willis
You are awesome people! I have noticed your cute dog by the door and we have gotten a rescue 4 months ago and he is exactly the same dog how ironic is that.
I make my own fire starters, too. I take old wax from candles melt them down, pour the wax into a big muffin tin that I got at the thrift store and place pinecones on top of each one. Sometimes when I have a lot of wax, I will dip the pinecones in wax first. cheap, cost-effective, recycled. I have also placed these pieces in baskets and use them as hostess gifts to friends that have woodburning fireplaces.
ha ha, me too! I often Make muffin cases with wood shavings in one colour and dip pine cones in another. lovely gift when placed in a tin with pretty matches.
We use a small Rubbermaid tote to bring the wood into the house. It works so much better than the canvas tote with open sides which dropped dirt and wood chips onto the floor.
I would love to have a wood stove. We have a fireplace, and two propane gas stoves. I always think it is good to have the option of wood burning stoves for the “in case” power outage. Gas is going up too, so the savings would be nice too. 😁😁🙌🙌
Good morning from Maine! We are now getting the snow / rain that you got yesterday. We burn wood as well. I like getting the small limbs cut for kindling. Also the stump left from cutting the tree is what we cut and use as chunk wood. Love and hugs
We got 4'' of snow overnight. It's still coming down..my pantry is stocked, our "wood" monster is keeping us nice & warm. We are 50 miles from the big city where we have to go to shop. Have a great day. I'm going to put my tree in the coop for my chickens. I'm sure they'll love it. Thanks for the great tip.
Awesome idea on the fire starters. We use our lint from the dryer and old candle wax for fire starters. I’ll put the lint in paper egg cartons then pour the wax over it. Cut a section of the carton and lite the carton or lint. 😊
We dream of the day we will buy a wood stove. Great informational video!!! Having the prepared mindset and not the financial backing can often be frustrating.
That wood stove is quite the beast! I have a smaller one, but it does well in my smaller house. I like all the adjustments you have on that one. As far as schools shutting down, I had to chuckle a bit. They hardly ever close schools here in the north. We'd have to get a couple feet, and even then, they might just open a couple hours late to wait for the plows to clear the bus routes. 😅 As usual, awesome informative video. Stay warm!

When you first get to the cows to get branches, it looks like that one cow is looking at you and the camera wondering, “Why is he talking to that thing?” 😂
Great video and tips. Recent tip we learned for starting a fire is using tortilla chips. Just 5 or so under your kindling works great!! Also great to have while your camping :) Also, if you run your house furnace fan, it will spread the heat throughout the house better, avoiding hot spots. Fan alone uses very little electricity.
I grew up with wood heat, no furnace of any kind, no fan, no problem. Put in my own wood stove as an adult was told the same thing, run your HVAC fan. Well that only works when you have a central return. My house has returns in every room, so that meant the coldest rooms had the cold air sucked out of them and blown throughout the house. I only did that one winter and realized I was wasting electricity and compromising the work of my wood stove. Ever since, I just have two pedestal fans set up, one in the foyer to suck the heat from the living room and the other at the end of the hall to keep the heat moving through the house. It works much better and my entire house is more than comfortable. Couple that with a ceiling fan or two and we wouldn't trade our wood stove for any other source of heat.
My friends have a big stove. All flat on top. They put a stock pot on it at bedtime with water and beans. He fills the stove, closes the drafts completely and then turns them back 1/4 turn. In the morning breakfast is ready. Hot beans and bread. Oh they cover the stock pot with another stock upside down. Which acts like an oven.
We had quail in our yard around the perimeter and I loved seeing them (and hearing them) but I didn't know about habitat and we cleaned up some of the shrubs and they went away. I have left the shrubs alone last season and we heard a few this fall....hoping they come back strong, now that I know better! Not allowed to keep them as pets (HOA) but I can encourage them to live here naturally.
This is our 45th winter using our Fisher "Grandpa Bear" wood burning stove, and Kevin, I used to do the same thing as you - getting up at night and adding more firewood. I don't do that anymore, I just have an ample fire at bedtime and get it started again next morning. We also have electric heat and a propane fireplace, but the wood stove is our main heat. Enjoy the videos. Say hi to Ralphy from Ralphy in Berea, Ky.
I hear many homesteaders say you do not want Cedars on the land. The take all the water and deplete the soil. The quail are going to love these trees! lol yes it does look like a pork chop!!! lol The quail house is so much better for them than the cages. The quail are so pretty! We are getting rain but the snow is on its way for her here in Kentucky. My husband always covered his wood piles out in the tree line with tarp/or heavy black plastic. That cart is really nice, better than a wheel barrow. Your beagle is so cute!
When we had our wood stove we saved our dryer lint to help start fires. If I were ever able to have a small farm/homestead, all the animals would be pets.
You are another one of those women who look so cute in a stocking hat! Both of you do. Not me, lol!!! Your little vehicle is so quiet. Ought to drive into waddlesville, less distance to carry heavy feed. Hope everyone stays warm. Might take quail back into barn. I'm in NW Missouri and our highs are in single digits and below for next several days. Scary for animals. My husband used to take his cows "cake". Some kind of molasses biscuits. Pretty pine trees
My husband and myself cut our own logs for the fire same as your fire Bruce always say you get three heat from the logs one cutting it and one splitting it and the third burning it I love cutting and logging and it keeps the heating bill here in Scotland 🏴 down
I use damp coffee filters and a baking soda paste to easily clean the glass door on my woodburner. Then I use wet coffee filters to wipe off the residue.
Always some good information. So many folks don't use or know safety with fire. Here in NW Georgia we got rain without to come on Friday. The ground is saturated and trees have fallen. Stay safe folks. Susan NW Georgia
Great video. Always enjoy every vlog you post. Your canvas tote looks like waxed canvas. It’ll give you years of use. The Lord bless you each and every day on your homestead. 💜✝️💜
Good Morning! Definitely cold temp here in MO. We also have a wood Stove and it feel so good to have them going in these cold Temps! Also been following yall for years now. And I must say you both are aging backwards!! Yall look healthy!
I just love ya guys..you are the example of a great husbsnd and wife team. God bless you and your homestead❤
Love the way the cattle come to you, even when you don't have a treat for them. Your videos are so fun to watch and I can learn a lot from you both. Keep cozy and warm by your wood burning stove. God bless you both.

A righteous man regards the life of his beast.
Beautiful herd of cows!

loved how Kevin referred to talking to the cows. lol They are loved. Sure enjoy watching all of your adventures. Blessings, Gail
Good video. Nice that you put the pine trees in the coop for the quail.

Just wanted to say, have a blessed day🙏🏻

The cows are beautiful.
Those quail are mighty happy now:) It was so sweet seeing the one pup in the doorway:)
I love warming up beside a wood heater . Thanks for sharing .
Really enjoyed watching 👍👍
I used to have a wood stove in Washington state and loved it.
Worked great.
Wow, what a neat stove. The gas afterburner is something I haven't seen before. Great concept!
We dream of the day we will buy a wood stove. Great informational video!!! Having the prepared mindset and not the financial backing can often be frustrating.
🐂🐄 I enjoyed watching the cows.
Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow
Great tutorial on the woodstove.
Love the horns on the side by side.
As usual, awesome informative video. Stay warm!
Always remember to check yourself after you’ve been around the Cedar trees, perhaps even the pine trees because ticks like to climb on the branches… At least, in Montana, they do! they can rub off on you extremely easily.
Good information kevin, stay safe and warm. Nothing feels better than a warm fire.
Enjoy your videos ❤
When you first get to the cows to get branches, it looks like that one cow is looking at you and the camera wondering, “Why is he talking to that thing?” 😂
We had a wood boiler - outdoors - for 35 years. When we moved to the family farm, no wood boiler. We retired. Less work all around!
Good morning
Michigan here, our church school is having a snow day. We volunteer to tutor kids for math so we can relax today too
You guys channel was the first channel I subscribed to. You are an awesome family.

My husband and myself cut our own logs for the fire same as your fire Bruce always say you get three heat from the logs one cutting it and one splitting it and the third burning it I love cutting and logging and it keeps the heating bill here in Scotland 🏴 down
I grew up helping cut, split, and stack firewood for the wood stove. My dad said the same thing about firewood. It heats you 3 times. Truth!❤

Great video. Always enjoy every vlog you post. Your canvas tote looks like waxed canvas. It’ll give you years of use.
The Lord bless you each and every day on your homestead. 💜✝️💜
