Its a very historic location in Srilanka. King Ravana - a figure that features prominently in Hindu mythology - is believed to have been the great demon king of the fortress island of Lanka, now Sri Lanka. He is portrayed as having ten heads and twenty arms, and is supposed to have been able to change his form as he pleased. In Hindu mythology, Ravana is portrayed as an evil, demon king, the villain in the famous story of Rama and Sita, as chronicled in the Sanskrit epic - Ramayana. However, in Sri Lankan culture, Ravana is often considered in a more positive light - a skilled warrior, a healer adept in Ayurvedic practices, and a powerful king, who even possessed an ancient flying machine, the Pushpak-vimana. Like the Sthripura Cave in Welimada, legend has it that it was used by King Rawana to hide the Princess Sita. It is also thought to be connected to the cave at the Dowa rock temple in Bandarawela (part of King Walagamba's famous 'tunnel network'). Archaeological findings include a human skull dating back to 20,000 BC. These tunnels prove beyond doubt the architectural brilliance of King Ravana. The tunnels served as a quick means of transport through the hills and also as a secret passage. They networked all the important cities, airports and dairy farms. A close look at these tunnels indicates that they are man-made and not natural formations. Existing tunnel mouths are also situated at Ishtripura in Welimada, Senapitiya in Halagala, Ramboda, Labookelle, Wariyapola in Matale, and Seetha Kotuwa in Hasalaka and in many more places. for more information read below www.talesofceylon.com/destinations/ella/tales-of-ella/the-legend-of-king-ravana-and-the-ravana-caves/
You're right about Ella being a tourist attraction. I personally avoid going there during the season because I don't like crowds but it's become like part of their way of life now. For example, when tourists were stranded in Ella after the country went into lockdown, the locals got together to take care of them even though they weren't getting tons of money and were in short supply of resources themselves.

coconut sambol doesn't have sugar, the sweetness comes from coconut itself, it's a staple dish in sri lanka, also we don't call tea "chai" in sri lanka, it's simply tea, plain or with milk
Em… Hey Davuad, loved 🥰 your video, my family of eurasians ran a tea plantation of 250 acs in Ella for many generations (which is a truly wonderful spot on the island) & not far from these famed caves to this 1,500 ft rock where there was a Buddhist monastery & the sleeping statue of Lord Gautama (which was featured in your video), and close below are the Rawana (water) falls, frequented by tourists & locals alike (named after king Rawana/ Rama). Even before we ‘had’ to emigrate down under to ‘Oz’ these caves were famous or ‘infamous’ for the incarceration/ prisoning of a young beautiful princess “Sita” consort to be married to King 👑 Rama of South India 🇮🇳 by protagonist ‘Hanuman’ the monkey lord/king of (the island of Lanka) - this is written down in the text of the ancient treatise & book of the Bhagavad Gita, a written work that preceded (I believe) Buddhism 🕉 arriving in Lanka 2,500 yrs ago & which predate dated Christianity by at least 500 yrs! Difficult for myself as a 13 yo boy to believe, tho understand an army, including elephants (ancient tanks!) was assembled by princess Sita’s consort Rama to invade the island (about the size of Tasmania) along the submerged land bridge b/w the Indian sub- continent (with the assistance of “winged beings!) 25 kms away (bridge seen by NASA satellite 🛰 pics) & rescue her from her incarceration from this very cave in your video! Fascinating 🧐 story & fable! It was the very 1st time I had heard of “vimana” or effectively flying machines & this was to a Christian boy back in the late ‘60’s’! Too much to handle! Very believable now! Thanks for posting - brought many memories!

Welcome to Sri Lanka Davud. Can see you are having a great time. Yes that’s the way to go and hope you will take back home good memories of our little island.
Brother, you should mix small portions from each curry along with relatively large portion from rice together for one month full. The proper way to use your right hand and mix those together about 5 seconds and tuck into your mouth. If you eat single mouthfuls from each curry, you will have a powerful harsh taste. The authentic Sri lankan dishes needs to be mixed well before you eat. then you will have combined new taste which is good. Do not put too much Currys to a single mouthful. Good taste comes with about 50% rice and 50% currys. And mix well for each month full.

Actually egg Totti made with same dough like paratta, Sri lankan call paratha too. Other thing, rice and curry is traditional meal in Sri Lanka. We eat rice and curry all day through with different tasteful curries. This banana call Ash banana. Which use for cooking only.
David, to be honest, the problem is you were not aware of the history of Ravana cave that's the problem. so my recommendation is when you select explore somewhere in Srilanka google it first. unless u feel you waste the time like this.

7:26 he was asking, in your country do people drink only green tea? No blacktea, jasmine tea, brown tea or anything else.
