Many people commented on my videos that I should not be calling tea "chai" - moving forward I will do my best and call it "tea with milk & sugar".
In my language "tea" is also called "Chay (Çay)", and also I have been introduced to this type of drink in Pakistan where they call it "chai" as well. So using the word "chai" never meant to be disrespectful or ignorant behavior. Much love and respect! 🇱🇰

Hi Davud, small correction. Here in Sri Lanka people don’t call “chai” for Tea with milk. We use “plain tea” (a cup of tea without milk) and “Milk Tea” or “Tea” (a cup of tea with milk). I think word “chai” is using in India and or Pakistan.
Edit: And also you can’t find banana roti too. It is not a popular food in Sri Lanka.

Just a heads up brother, the tea is that you drink there is pronounced “Tae” or “Tay”. The noodle looking things are call “Indy Aappa”
A traditional Sri Lanka breakfast consists of “Kiri Both” or milk rice in english. Also there is “Pittu”. Which is also another steamed rice dish that looks like a cylinder after its cooked. Since you’re not too fond of spice lol, you can eat those with “Kiri Hodi” or Milk Gravy in english. I use to eat these with some regular milk and sugar also. Enjoy brother. If you need help, let me know.

Typical Sri Lankan breakfast would be : Milk rice or String hoppers or hoppers ( plain hoppers or egg hoppers) or coconut roti. Try to enjoy those as well.
We eat rice and curry for Lunch.
Better try curries such as; jack fruit, " polos" , cashew curry, fried brinjal curry, dhal curry and fish- " ambul thiyal" style.

The food you were eating there Sri Lankan snacks. Rolls and vegetable roti. Rolls are made with fish or meat ( usually mutton). You were asking banana roti. I guess you were asking coconut roti and banana. Just ask separately. That lady was making string hoppers. ( Idiappa) . You can try string hoppers with dhal curry as you cannot eat spicy. Try Lavaria ( string hopper pancakes filled with coconut and honey mixture). Thanks for visiting our beautiful country.

Im happy ,at least 2 WEEKS later somebody saw my intention. It was to show that fresh fish is far beyond the purse of most SriLankans, EVENTHOUGH we are surrounded by sea.
I work and live in Seychelles where most things are very expensive, yet king fish , para and most fish is fresh and easily available and much cheaper than in SriLanka.
1 kg of Kingfish in supermarkets in SriLanka was past Rs 3000/= .in January.
One thing we can encourage in SriLanka is fish ponds, without any interference from religeous factors/ elements.
What matters is the grub and the stomach.
Politicians , without being petty show that you are there and you mean business. L.G

Davud, avoid taking such 'masala' stuffed items cold. The dough is mostly Maida (a finely pulverised part of wheat's husk), which doesn't digest easily. Also, the stuffings tend to get stale and develop bacteria which could upset the stomach.

"Chai" is the Indian Name machan. Local Sri Lankan don't recognize that name.
"Tea" or "Milk Tea" = Tea with milk and sugar.
"Plain Tea" = Tea with sugar (no milk)
If you want Tea without sugar or milk you can ask "Kahata"
