"And In the autumn I'll ditch her because she's my summer girl"😂😂😂
'you never stare at me' - 'you're my oldest friend....besides you look like you fell out of a tree' - AHHHHHH FRIENDSHIP
"She'll have hair, and know how to be outside."
Bernard is feeling the heat but stays in his black suit. Love it.
Technically, it's a white suit - it's just dirty and has only ever been cleaned once, by MooMa and MooPa
"if I told you the walls of my flat were actually moving in would you say I was strange?"
"No I'd ask you to come 'round and look after my small children" 😂😂😂
Bernard's the tallest hobbit I've ever seen.
They are called Stoor
@@knightofsvea604 Stoor hobbits aren’t the tallest breed of hobbit. Fallohides are.
@@Jakegothicsnake I wish all arguments were as adorable as this.
Absolutely sure of it.
"Don't mess around u could be spending the next 20 years in the electric chair" 😂😂😂
Years of wondering later, I did the conversion. It's only 31 degrees Celsius!
Shows what passed for "super hot" weather back in the day. And in the UK.
you must be Somalian
lol for real, we get like 40 degrees in Argentina sometimes. That's nothing.
@@lord_insany It was up to 40 degrees Celsius in Germany a few weeks ago...
all the fugees must have brought that weather with them
@@lord_insany you seem like a rational person
bernard has the best ''lolly'' I have seen in my life :)
Well i wouldn't know.... i never seen his lolly. :)

Oh right, the UA-cam comment section
12:03 i love that Bernard just has '88' post-it-notes all over his back
"I'll just have to hope when I flip the coin it somehow explodes and kills me!"
Think of a bee
you are its knees
you waft through me like a summer breeze
can I come by tuesday please?
that chick was crazy bernard was spitting fucking bars
I laugh because 88 degrees is 31 celsius. In Australia, that's a normal day a lot of the time.
Yeah I had to google what 88 was because it didn’t sound very hot lol. 31 is when I start to activate and finally enjoy myself. Im hoping for a heatwave this year, last summer was disappointing.
I suppose the boiling and freezing points of temperature are relative. I live in Australia in which 30 degrees Celsius isn’t considered super hot. Yet Winter temperatures averaging between 5-10 degrees can feel freezing, but in Britain, might be considered a jaunty Spring day.
"Since you've been here it actually seems bigger !"
"Feng shui is nine tenths of the law."

My favourite ep. You really can't beat Black Books at its best.
18:28 the poem is actually 🔥
yes it is
If you're 15 and under, or clueless, for sure.
It's funny and being funny goes a long way@@52BLUE
Let's be real about temperature:
a) It's about what you're used to. When you grow up in Siberia, 20°C will be annoyingly warm for you.
b) It's about architecture. Houses in colder climates are built to keep warm, houses in warmer climates are built to keep cool.
c) Air conditioning. Not a thing in the UK or similar milder places, because you generally don't need them.
I mean, I live in a country where the winter lasts about a quarter of a century and it gets -30c at worst. I can't stand the winter and in the summer when it gets 27c and everyone is complaining how hot it is - I sweat with joy. It's bliss.
-There's nothing wrong with my mind.... -You are wearing an accordion... LOL this one of my favorite comeback-puns ever!!!
Where tf is the pun?
"Sardinia, South, Porto Scudo, the little beach by the old monastery."

🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This was one of my favorites. I dare anyone to watch this and not crack up laughing.
"don't block the frock" LOL
30 degrees? That's a nice cool spring day here... 🇦🇺
If Manny gets up to 88 degrees, you’re gonna see some serious shit.
I'm definitely trying the wine lolly this summer...
Is there such as wine-flavored lollipops? If there isn’t, there should be.
_THERE'S ... NO ... RUMMuhh_
it's been unbearably hot for a week now - this episode is so so true! we all have Dave's Syndrome now...
“There’s nothing wrong with my brain!”
“You’re wearing an accordion.”
👀 *Throws accordion and stomps it to death*
Bernard's face at 3:27 is priceless
All I want to say is, I'm American and I don't want to reflexively defend the Fahrenheit system like some of us may do. Honestly, the rest of the world uses Celsius, we should use Celsius too. Oh, snap, that rhymed!
Yes please... And go symmetric while you at it. Then UK could switch to left hand driving, and we all be better off.
@@frozenhorse8695 What do you mean by "go symmetric"?
@@danielcropp8553 I mean number wice. mm.cm. and so on.
@@danielcropp8553 Metric ofc. :)
there is no reason to switch to metric except that it is logically better.
When I was in London a few years back it was 96 almost every day. There were a lot of people suffering from Dave's Syndrome that summer, poor blokes.
Was this in 2019? I experienced the London Heatwave too! The underground especially was absolutely stifling. I spent most of the day in Foyle's, a big air-conditioned bookshop in Charing Cross Road.
I live in an area where it reaches 125°F in summer, but we always have AC indoors which makes a better summer!
That spastic jump never gets old
Wish they still made shit like this.
Hey! It's Johnny Vegas!
If they're panicking at 81 degrees, they better stay away from Texas, 81 is a cool breeze🤣🤣🤣
Funny that they are playing like it is sweltering, yet Bernard is wearing a jacket. If it was so hot, that would be the first thing to ditch, as well as long sleeves.
I thought so, too. But I guess Bernard would rather die from a heat stroke than putting off any clothes when being in his sweet spot. The only time he wore different stuff was in the holiday episode when Manny lost the luggage 😂
This year in August in Portugal the hottest day was 45 celsius (113)Fahrenheit. My brain almost melted....
Most have felt it like 55c because of the moist!
Thats considered a nice day in Arizona
I miss Portugal so much, heat and all.
I seriously fell in love with that girl in 2B... She's such a natural beauty 😍
That's incredible, since you've been here it actually seems bigger
12:41
Feng shui is 9/10's of the Law
I had to stop the clip and laugh for 2 minutes at that feng shui joke. I don't know if many others got that joke, but I'm glad you poked it out.
Love Black Books, thanks for posting
Imagine hot being 80 degrees
81 in England?
Had to be Fahrenheit thermostat lol
Thede characters have an incredible warmth. Humans before mobiles take over consciousness.
I'm told that London has been quite warm, even hot during summer in recent years. Trivia note, the forecast for London tomorrow (August 3, 2019) is 24°C/75°F. That's exactly the same temperature forecast as my hometown, Brisbane. The only difference is that it's mid-winter in Brisbane.
Why can't they make comedy like this anymore??
But it's relatively new
Relatively new? it's 18 years ago(2000-2004)
@@E_y_a_l that _is_ new, compared to e.g. Monty Python which started in 60's and will apparently never get out of date. Of Fawlty Towers from the 70's. Or even Blackadder.
Why you stopped in the 60's? why not compare it to Charlie Chaplin or William Shakespeare while you're at it? And compared to the stone age it's REALLY new.... yes, relative to the shows you mentioned a 20 years old show is relatively new, but you use the term "relatively" a little too loosely in my opinion, we don't live in the 60's, we live in the age of the Internet, UA-cam, Netflix, Amazon Prime video etc... and in this world a 20 years old tv series is considered old.
@@E_y_a_l well, they indeed don't make comedy like Keaton did anymore. Only Jackie Chan did something comparable. However, all that is completely unrelated to "comedy like this", unlike e.g. Fawlty Towers, which is modern but already old.
I don't understand how the technologies you have listed have anything to do with the quality of writing and acting.
You cannot just spit out quality stuff every year, such schedule only works for pop music, Hollywood blockbusters and other such garbage, unoriginal and forgettable.
We've had NFLC pretty recently (2012-14); we had Mighty Boosh til 2007; The IT Crowd til 2010; quite a few other things that could be better than BB but less known. But not every year, of course.
Bernards the only one not in summer clothes
Of course not.
Black - Year round.
That's cynical, pessimistic fashion!
Immediately love the nod to Time Bandits with that encroaching wall in Fran's apt
I didn't know that was from Time Bandits. I thought it was originally used in "Brazil" with the desk being shared across two rooms.
@@Jacksonrox13 There's a vid here called Time Bandits 1981 1:25 running time that is the scene i was thinking of, featuring a wall that is pushed. But i see what you mean too, both Gilliam, so go figure!
Does Manny live in the store like Bernard?
Yes
Bernard looks like the Sandman from the comic book. Uncanny. Maybe he is Morpheus, who has come to our world to cure Fran's insomnia?
In the last scene with Manny jumping on the car, it looks like the book jammed in that customers mouth has the face of the Necronomicon on it. Evil Dead reference?
Is anyone else watching this in the middle of a heat wave?
I love that my mind is so complex that I end up playing every single character in every single episode of this. They're all facets of myself. Which stands to reason, as it was probably written by one person. And usually you end up writing the facets of your personality and all of their dimensions for others to see... Meanwhile hoping that you are displaying different aspects of humanity as you have seen and experienced them. Nevertheless, you will always imbue them with yourself. This is why writers are so profound and interesting.
I'm binging this show. God I love British humor.
The dreaded "Dave's Syndrome" 😵
I also feel like he was way past 88 degrees a long time ago, wearing all that shit
do brits really feel like this when it reaches only 81? That's considered quite a cool day in the summers here!
Best intro ever lol
Fran writhing and sticky is just... disturbing, Black Books was one of the funniest shows to come out of British TV!
Hah damn, being from Texas, 88 degrees really isn’t that hot
It's a dream come true in the summer, especially when the air conditioner breaks...
no one notices in Texas anymore because they all have Dave's Syndrome
@@JasonSanders 🤣
It's hot for the English
Same here from New Mexico, my first thought at "its 88 degrees" was "ha, that's cute"
I'm confused as to why they were using Fahrenheit instead of Celcius? I also suffer from Dave's Syndrome, but it starts at 80F....I think perhaps with a lightning strike at 88 you could go into the past.
Brits, especially those who aren't kids, still commonly think and talk in Fahrenheit. And who can blame them? Fahrenheit is better.

I can't believe I didn't see this show until now but the upside is at least now I know what Daisy's father was up to all those years before the Agents of Shield found him.
You've got the wrong actor. That's Kyle MacLachlan who played Sky's father.
Oh man were lucky to get 81 degrees here in California in the winter.... but I like it. Btw why is this episode using Fahrenheit???
😂 Does anyone actually have a wall that could do that?
13:33 Wait.. why are they measuring temperature in Fahrenheit? 0_o
ya..... i had to look up the conversion from celsius to F and saw it would be 184....
Also if these guys are complaining about 84F they have issues
That's England and some of europe here mate. Here it's been 30° C the entire week and I'm unable to do basic things, today I slept 14 hours.
88°N are equivalent to ~29°C
@@ewstaeger in england and some, it's fucking hot. Here in indonesia, it's a normal temperature around 30. However, i lived in england before for two years. My body adjusted to its weather and suddenly anything more than 25 was a hell
*'Climate Strange'*
Why are they using fahrenheit?
Aligns well with many other things they do
They obviously understand that Fahrenheit is a better scale. Knowing the boiling point is no selling point! It has little scientific application and no every day application. Water boils when water boils. Turn the stove to high and let it sit for a good ten minutes!
@@jameshudson169 I assume you're American?
@@kaaru6891 why? you taking a survey? recruiting americans? what?
@@jameshudson169 yep, it's a survey about Americans and their sense of self- entitlement. We pay in doughnuts. Let me know if you're interested.
6:35 Oh, crud-that's Johnny Vegas!!
Wasn't Fran's red-headed neighbor the same girl who played the daft chick who worked with Linda at the factory in Gimme Gimme Gimme?
Yes!!
It's weird that they using fahrenheit instead of celsius when talking about the temperture. That's not what use in UK.
I agree it is weird- but it may have felt more ‘dramatic’ to use Fahrenheit, since the number is much larger than Celsius.
She's my summer girl lol
88 degrees?!?!. Sounds like regular fall weather around here..XD
This is like if Albert Camus wrote a comedy... 😂
Is the 88 degree guy some sort of lizard he should always be around 98.6 degrees...? Also how does getting himself warmer make the room warmer if indeed he isn't referring to his internal temperature and instead he means that the ambient temp can't go above 88 degrees? Kidding it's still silly! This show is growing on me!
