That bit about putting food on pictures with plates on them was glorious
I heard this episode is what inspired Gordon Ramsay to become a cook
What the heck!?
This comment deserves an award 👏 🙌
@Nicholas #51 it’s true
@Nicholas #51 no it’s true I promise you it’s what inspired him to do kitchen nightmares , to reach the bernards of the world
@Nicholas #51 you've clearly not seen Gordon make toast. I'd rather have Bernard's paint.
I love the imperious yet clueless look Manny has on his face when he's out walking.
@Max William Lauf omg fancy seeing you on a Black Books video lol
I just realized: that is an INSANE amount of saffron.
It really is an insane amount of everything, except maybe lobster.
That Saffron and Caviar would make a down-payment for a bike
Saffron in high amounts tends to taste like a combination of soap and dirt.
The way Fran felt at the start, I could completely relate to her. I hated all my previous jobs, but hating them took up half my life. Being unemployed just made me feel so empty all the time!
me for the last 7 months
I relate to this is the weirdest way. I used to have seizures (just partial ones, not on the ground or anything) and had brain surgery. It completely fixed it, which was awesome, but there was a kind of emptiness there where I missed it as well. There’s a whole lot of stuff there to unpack, but apparently this response to stopping seizures is at least somewhat common.
As a french person I must say that that was the most beautiful "putain" I've heard in my entire life 👌
17:11
mouais... "putain" ne se dis pas dans ce contexte, s'il l'avait loupé oui
Shut up. I'm trying to make creme brule. *grinds cucumber*
MY OVEN CAN COOK BITS OF OVEN!
That's the Heston Blumenthal recipe.
As someone of eastern European descent I'd like to point out a glaringly offensive inaccuracy . . . they would have already had a man there for her to meet and marry (distantly related, of course).
Why of course? Are there no other options or is there some other reason?
@@anydaynow It's a tribal thing.
@Moogie B I don't know. Personally, I find people taking jokes as offensive even more offensive than that even.
And stop liking your own posts. No one thinks that was anyone but you.
@Moogie B who's taking offense? Poster was making a joke...
@Moogie B It was a joke you dumbass...
Credit where credit's due. Manny made a 'gourmet soup tower'. That's impressive, Claire would've loved him.
These subtitles are a comedyshow of its own.
I like how they're bad the whole time, but they especially have trouble with Fran's Eastern European family
@@TenshiCat lol
Love Tamsin. She's so hilarious! I love this ensemble cast. They all have great chemistry together.
Check out Friday Night Dinner!
The episodes where Bernard goes truly manic are always the best ones
The cooking scenes are pivotal moments in comedy.
I could take sarcasm lessons from this guy
That beginning scene with the haggler is still one of my favorites 10 years later.
Just realized this is pretty much modern Fawlty Towers, in the best way
Thank you for sharing one of the great go-to comedies when I'm at a loose end and looking for silliness.
Nx Doyle pixies!
"Don't start - customer-lover!"
That sounds like a slur even though it's not
@@T3t4nu5 It’s just slurred speech …
I’m going start carrying bacon in a cigarette case. So many uses.
"Oh look, you've popped out!"
Your Waifu's Waifu **SNAP**
Why haven't I ever heard of this series before?! I found it yesterday and can't stop binging it.
Mozart's flute and orchestra concerto in a Black Books episode adds a nice touch to it 😊
That is why i ADORE English humor.. so damn bizarre and fascinating..
Irish, not English...
And don't correct it to british or you'll have irishmen breaking down your door.
Drizzle it!
Always love how Bernard argues with customers and well everyone.
Berny: and we will be dunlop stars.....Manny: michelin stars!....Berny: them as well. Me pissing myself
I want an Attenborough documentary on those animals 😁
My all time favourite comedy. TY
This and IT Crowd . I AM CANADIAN . British humor is the bestest .
Epic episode. It's getting more surreal by the minute!🤣
I actually screamed when the grandma sucked on fran's chin.
Where are the turrets? Lol
My favourite bit is hunting the little creatures, whatever they are.
Lol Ulysses does have a thousand guide books.
So does “Finnegans Wake” 🤯
"Treat yourself!"
Dunlop stars!
My oven can cook anything. My oven can cook bits of oven.
Bernard sure knows how to barter with greedy snobs.
What a funny episode! this show is brilliant
Best episode by far
One of the most absurd (in a funny way) episodes of this show.
luxury pie
3:42 is me when I walk near Michael's art supplies store.
Gregor is my spirit animal.
My oven can cook bits of oven!!
Now I know where the missing pages went in Fata Morgana!
Why did it kill me that the french chef calls an onion thief a whore, but i don't question it 😂
7:27 badass
the creatures that were all around the bookshop and manny & bernard kept killing them, but we never really knew what they were
3:28 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Luxury pie
and top it off with a corget creme-brule
Wtf pest are they killing this episode? Feels like I missed an episode or something. At the end he says he got the queen. edit: i think thats the joke now that i thought about it ..its so disgusting in there all sorts of creatures have made it home xD
Well it has fur and a beak
You didn't miss one - they just appeared out of the filth :D
14:45 DID YOU KNOW, THAT A JIFFY IS ACTUALLY A MEASUREMENT OF TIME?
14:16 holy shit. Havent seen that since...Well, since I passed through the garage. I mean, the 80s. It is BEFORE VHS ! The BETA cassette player. For video. Dang!
I seem to have achieved Bernard Black’s personality, without even smoking or drinking heavily. Does that mean I’m better at it than he is?
No, that's cheating. The smoking and drinking are mandatory. Now get on it, or you'll be held back another year.
Do you Want to live a longer miserable life?
Just means you are an asshole :D
Manny wants to run the shop but since the beginning Bernard’s not wanted to sell anything
Why do I have a crush on Bernard? :s
He wasted whole expensive food ingredients 😱
That saffron could have paid for college
That's a very amusing, albeit accurate (and graciously not-directed-at-a-specific-country) portrayal of the total bastardisation and degradation of Eastern and Southern Europe after WWII.
Bernard is just a genius
"I'll do it to myself...later"
The sound effects are great!
When he said 14th cigarette of the afternoon, I lit my 17th of the morning. 11:43
And finished the second beer. What am i doing?
40th*
Ok. I feel a lil better.
"What am I doing"
Well, you're bragging, you shouldn't, it's not impressive it's pathetic
Living a very happy and meaningful existence.
Destroying your lungs.
Manny I hate you for 23:10.
Bernard i can totally relate to ur cooking. 🤜🤛.
Classic! ❤
19:53 :DDD
I guess Nina Conti just decided to live in that bookshop
My oven can cook anything!
'A novel by a 12 year old spaniard'
Dunlop stars 😂
Where's the thing?!
With the ting on top of the ting!
I love dylan!! ❤❤
My favourite - with Tishtyan Morrissey
I recognize those tea glasses (armudu).
Wow! She looks very attractive in this episode. 😇💜
what is that he whipped is he whipping a platypus
What is the guitar music playing when Manny goes to Sagabooks?
Why didn't Graham Linehan co-write more episodes ? What happened ?
7:46 UUUUU
08:45...Drag me to Hell?
Customer-lover [derogatory]
Manny says "geneology" , should be genealogy ? (5:27 mins)
5min 35secs. It's "genealogy " with an A , Mr Information Point.
I’ve always hated this episode, just because the backwards family always annoyed the crap out of me. Everything else is pretty funny still though
23:11
Mel Gibson's looking old...
What are they killing ?
What’s the creature that makes noises in the book store?
A Krullet
Marcus Bones what’s a Krullet
I think it’s a badger. Refer to: ua-cam.com/video/b4lpFjHsGLo/v-deo.html
@@sakuraninja9073badgers dont have beaks
This is Fawlty towers but with a book shop instead of an inn. Don't get me wrong, I still find it hilarious. However, conceptually it just an angry man whose business requires him to be nice to his customers but doesn't like his customers. That's the main conceptual joke behind the character design which is copied from Fawlty towers
Nah, the whole series isn't like that. They get up to some wackadoodle adventures that have basically nothing to do with the shop, aside from the protagonists meeting up there.
All comedy is derivative because human thought is both linear and cyclical.
There are always going to be themes that touch on other themes.
Language borrows from other cultures and infiltrates our own thought processes through the way it impacts how we view our world.
Homogenization has occurred as communication and information is shared more freely in our electronic data era.
Bernard is more appealing than Basil.
Bernard is drawn to words and has the heart of a tragically wry Irish poet.
His character is drawn far more deeply.
Basil is a shallow character, very much like the one Mr Gervais plays in the British version of The Office.
All 3 characters are narcissistic and self absorbed, but motivated by different things.
Cleese's character wants money and autonomy. He is selfish, rude, overbearing and abusive, but fears his wife.
Gervais' character wants to be loved and appreciated but is a callow, incompetent and stupid man, lacking social skills.
Bernard Black enjoys drinking, and being abusive as as a competitive means of escape from boredom, he reads, has some depths, but he disdains pretension and hypocrisy.
He is self absorbed, lazy, and disheveled, but he owns those traits.
He has a warmth towards Fran that belies his shallow affect.
Of the 3 Bernard Black is a multidimensional character with more feelings than mere anger and scorn.
He is thoughtful but tries to hide it behind carelessness.
@@AndrewMOJObook No.
Lol you have a good afternoon and you have to come earlier and have a good time with optimism and hope you can do it together tomorrow and you will have to go to the scene
love this comment! So inspiring!!
I like Dylan's standup. I don't like this character. Gross.
bit racist this, innit?
The show definitely played into the stereotype of the morose, alcoholic irishman.
That's a thing?
Dou you mean because of Fran's family? Cause they're white.
[BERN/]
Also, does anyone else have a crush on "Martina"?
I forgot how racist this show was xD
How was it racist? People like this do exist, you know?
Ljubomir Juraj safe space?
As an Eastern European I can say you....that's true,we have even worse
