I really enjoy the Python code of the whole thing. Kinda detailed also.
Maybe one thing.
You should put - and not + when you're increasing the absolute value of the speed, as technically it's the high negative speed that's making mario move so fast backwards. Also, the reason that this is not possible for the normal long jump is the fact that the code is basically the same, however there is a positive speed cap at around 75 (of whatever the speed unit is in the game).
