The old Rust map was my favorite honestly. I had so much fun on it back in 2013 and 2014. It was true freedom despite being small in scale, and VERY fun.
It was the superior rust imo. Simpler but better at the same time, but I can’t deny that nostalgia probably makes me look at it differently, and the community changed drastically.
@@dmitrixallo7072trying to see and compare objectivly through nostalgia is so hard. Even with the community stuff. Its always been a pretty rough one. @@Madman33-nv8ht Everyone keeps saying that, but to me it just gives off good ol Gmod vibes more than anything, which is ironic since it was made by Facepunch, the same studio that made Gmod ;)
I don’t believe the game ever had under 1k players. It had the hype of the DayZ mod to piggyback off of as standalone kept being pushed back, also it was made by Garry Newman and everyone who played gmod was interested in his next game.
The best rust was when stone walls were 1000 health, turrets didn't need gens to run and c4 could be spammed quickly for raids. Those were the good ole days!

It was an hardcore workless player game in 2017 , now it’s a kiddy game , I’m not playing anymore since 1 year now and after every update , I say myself I did good to stop
I miss when there was much more chaos in this game, like 2018-2020 it was a lot of fun for me, advanced game but still wild, you could construc on roads, fights would start and last for 1-2h on max pop, thats gone.
I first played rust in 2016 and do not remember it looking that way. Wow. I got more into it in 2019 and for some reason remember it looking like it does today but before the major graphic update. Crazy times
2016 and 2017 Rust was peak. Focus was more on building triple-stacked walls, raiding was hard af, BPs were free, and so on ... But, to be fair, the content was ~10% of what it is today. I enjoyed it anyways, espacially the old M249 sound and multiple TCs per base
Rust in 2014 absolutely consumed my life. I dropped 500 hours in a matter of a few months. I’ve never since played a similar game. Damn that was fun until the server got hacked by C4 spamming assholes.
I had over 500 hours on classic rust back in the day. I had a ton of fun. I'm sure rust nowadays is a lot better, but I just never could get back into it.
I remember when there were blueprint fragments that would give you random bps and I think you could upgrade them at a research table or sum. And I also remember after that, items would have owners so if you farmed with a stolen hatchet, the owner would get xp, not you. Clans would spam 1 guy with all the xp to unlock the bps
Rust Legacy was perfect for fast PvP fights at the evening. We had so much fun there. Build fast a base and then go raid. Great time. We was 14 players there in our small clan. But no one had this fun in the new Rust.
The building and electricity system is still pretty ass though. Kinda dumb that batteries drain even when entire circuits are switched off, and trying to build on uneven terrain is a nightmare. Elevators don’t work close to cliffs either, making them less useful. The building and electricity systems need a rework, and the net code is pretty janky.
Honestly the game itself has improved amazingly over the last 10 years. The only thing that stops me from playing it again is the community being so toxic. It was way easier to make friends back then than it is now sadly
0:35 that looks uncannily like the building me and my friends made which was assaulted the same way. I wonder if that's the footage of us getting owned or not
From 2013-2018, i put over 3,000hrs into rust. I loved it. It's one of the top games I've played. In the last 5 years, I've put in maybe 50 hours. I just can't get into games anymore. Maybe life is just busy🤷♂️
i’ve been a fan of rust since frankieonpcin1080p played it, it feels like they really found the basis of the game around that time and its only improved since
man 2013 rust was the gold days of lazy raiding. I'd play all night so most of my server would be asleep I'd farm c4 all night long and blow the doors off everyone's house put my own door on lock it then leave the door unlocked. Each night I could just get on and go into peoples houses and loot their stuff. For weeks everyone was crying that some hacker was taking their things then one day they found my base that had all their stuff in it then started figuring out they could open anyone's door.
Buddy and me bought it on a whim one afternoon on a Wednesday. We thought it was a zombie killing game. lol. We literally had no clue there was even pvp. We started in a almost no pop server for a couple hours. Never died or got shot at. Server went down so we joined one with more players. Players started killing us and we were like WTF? Died time and time again. Couldn't get out of the starter shack. Met a cool guy. Showed us the ropes a little. Gave us each a gun to go get an airdrop. Killed some guys, ran it back and he let us keep the guns. We were like Holy Shit. This is different. Didn't even know you could attack and raid yet. We played all night, both called in to work the next two days, and played all weekend. Never stopped after that. Those first 4 days of rust I think was the most fun I've ever had playing video games. There had never been anything like it. At least not that we had played. Been playing it ever since. Best game ever I think.
