I think this should be like how museums are. You learn these things in school but to see many of the (some being explicit) things the museums show them and it is the Parents who can Choose themselves to take Their own kid to the place to learn. In this case the Museum would be a public library.
From schools yes as they are there to learn about subjects nothing more nothing less, but from public library's no as that is peoples own free time and personal life
Sure there should be an age restriction on books but i disagree with outright banning of books because if a government can freely ban books then what happens if any criticisms about the government were to be expressed in a book? Most likely they will try to silence that individual for writing down their grievances and publishing it. That's the true danger of any book ban.
Especially when propaganda is spread and it makes people not only defend these laws but also blame a certain group of people… Hm, very familiar- where have we seen this before?
It's concerning that the freedoms protected by the Constitution are slipping away. Banning books is not justifiable, but it's important to ensure children aren't exposed to harmful content. While I don't think banning books is wise, some titles may not be suitable for any school's curriculum. It's crucial to consider the school's viewpoint and parents' concerns. The real problem is individuals' perspectives being forced onto society, not "hazardous" books or the internet.
This all dates back to the authoritarian and iconoclastic societal structure our founding fathers escaped by fleeing to this land and starting a new country. So that one day caste, serfs, public executions, and cultural/ideological suppression would give way to liberty, personal accountability, equality, and most importantly the freedom to seek enlightenment though knowledge and open discussion. These are the values our founding fathers expected us, as Americans, to be willing to defend with our lives. Everything else in my opinion should be considered secondary.
another thing to note is the massive influx of AI written books coming out with 3000 page sequels a day after. were gonna hit a point where theres no longer a truth in written documentation
While I don't support banning or burning books either way, there's a difference between which group of people want to ban books targeted at which group of people. There's also a difference between banning books and just not having them in schools or not distributing them publically/through goverment legislation.
As any complex matter we shall be the judges of the circumstances - We need to judge if the content of the writing, because it looks like a book it does not mean it cannot be trash. I'm sure several flat-earth books exist. - This knowledge is going to be held for future generations to read, so what is it that we want to promote? - There's a very specific nuances of this current time in which certain ideas seem predatory towards children, any parent who would not pay attention would be foolish. Not only are the ideas predatory, but the ideas prime kids to be an easier target for its onw predations, or for more predatory practitioners. - And yes, I do agree that the freedom exists as to co-exists with books who are banned. But those should be kept around the appropriate demographic, not given to children behind their parent's backs. As long as you are an adult with agency, you should be free to read anything you want, be it right or wrong. May you be the judge.
Well that is a brain-dead and ignorant take. Since you are essentially arguing it reasonable to FORCE libraries and the like to carry objectionable content.
"book banning" is a dumb conversation, if i write a book all about having s*x with children or some horrible thing, that book should not be allowed anywhere.
As a historian I can safely say that any society that has existed throughout the course of history has banned books and been remembered as the good guys.
The books are not banned from sale or they are only banned from school and public libraries because the books contain x rated content (both of which can be freely accessed by children) The only books banned in America are nonfiction books containing fraudulent information, books containing classified information, or books that violate copyright
It’s reasonable and a good thing for parents to want only children’s books in children’s libraries. Kids should not be exposed to certain content. School libraries do not have any parental control when all books can be checked out, because the parents aren’t there. Age restrictions and general kid’s content are good things for kids libraries. But public/uni libraries are different. I work at one in a state that is extreme about book bans. We were threatened to have felonies for helping minors check out “inappropriate” books. The problem was, inappropriate could be ANYTHING the parent deems. Marvel, Sci-fi, “my hair is magic”, some even complained about warrior cats. One parent even went to the ADULT section and was angry about the adult content their child saw, asking for removal. Be a parent. Age restrict YOUR children (we also age restrict), check your child’s book before checking it out, stop blaming others. We shouldn’t have to constantly withdraw books because you can’t parent your own child.
Bro, that's an entirely different situation, they were burning a Quran plus they were allowed to buy a couple days later a country stormed a Swedish embassy for this exact reason and attempted to assaulting the embassy's staff and burnt the Bible in front of it.

@@1012-v9rwait what never mind I changed my thoughts on the ban it should happen then as long they are banning that and not books on history or anything like that it's ok
On top of that, it feels like there’s certain books that should be in schools, according to the same group, books like Fahrenheit 451, of Mice and Men, Push, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close are considered “anti-conservative”. Dude a teacher down in Texas got fired for reading Anne Franks Diary. I’m sorry but if you ban books about things that actually happened and that are happening -you lost the plot.
If you did even a basic amount of research you'd have known that the book the teacher read was an unapproved illustrated version of Anne Frank's diary, which included intimate passages that had been edited out of the original, including Anne's fantasies about other girls... Read to an audience of EIGTH GRADERS.
I doubt they really care about their kids. It feels like they are afraid to tell their kids about the birds and the bees yet get upset when someone else does it. I understand that having kids read about those adult books is not right but it's not just about that. These people are afraid of progressive change or anything considered "woke". I wonder when is it a good time to tell kids about dark topics? I think it's the parents responsibility to tell kids that life isn't all sunshine and rainbows and to stop punishing the wrong people for their social negligence.
I feel like the only reasonable compromise would be to establish an ESRB for books. “Children under this age may not check out of library without a parent present”
I have seen many people talking about the books aspect of a lot of this video, which is the main topic(obvious, I know). I wanted to touch on the LGBT aspect that caught my eye. The LGBT used to just be something people didn't bother with, nor really be bugged about. The problems began to rise when it started to become overly political and mainstream media, politicians and famous celebrities started to use it for clout and such. Since then, it's becoming such a nuisance that's being shoved in our faces and infecting everything we enjoy. In such a forced effort for "equality" people are putting their foot down and saying enough is enough. It's become such an unnecessary problem politically that it's hard to take a middle ground approach and not get demonized by either side. Live your life, but don't expect me to call you by what you like. Have your flags and your parades, but don't show inappropriate and provocative displays of sexuality infront of kids. Have your books, but don't show them to children in schools. A long take, I know. I don't hate the LGBT, I just dispise the forceful nature of many people in that community that it's grinds my gears.
Have a copy of Mein Kampf in my parents basement, my dad is big on keeping pieces of history like that and I am too. It's good to have such things around so we don't end up repeating it in some way. Anyone or anything that forgets it's history will repeat it again.

hey optimus! just wanted to quickly note, some people aren't too happy with the term "transgenderism", its usually used as a right wing buzz word (example being prageru). also, its not a lifestyle, its who we are! i hope you read this and understand.
It’s ironic you have groups like Moms for Liberty, doing stuff like this they were founded to oppose covid mandates and online learning but then start trying to ban books left right and center. I’m not against excluding certain books from elementary schools and such but from public libraries.
No books should ever be banned, no matter how radical or inappropriate they may be. Certain books should be kept away from children until they're mature enough to understand what they're reading and can come up to their own conclusions on the message of the book, but they should never be restricted from reading them indefinitely.
Right to the freedom of speech only protects your opinion against government officials, positions, and decisions. The basic human right and the 1st amendment are two different things. It is a very common misunderstanding.
We can only better ourselves by knowing our faults through history. By banning certain books it limits our perception and on the topic of promoting lgbt and graphic content towards children they shouldn't be able to access this in school. They shouldn't be thought gender polotics or politics in general because they're kids let them have their youth and be kids. Because for some people myself included I was forced to grow up too fast and the main reason for that was because I had friends who where watching pron and swearing and smoking. I started smoking and doing all sorts at 12 I wish I had the youth I was supposed to anyway rant aside children should be protected and be happy and they shouldn't have to put up with the modern day woke culture at such a young age. Just my two cents
We should just start book burnings at this point But to be honest we shoudl ban specific books from schools especially sexualy explicit but banning the books all together is a violation for free speech entirely

I'm surprised the aren't trying to ban libraries or something like that with how little people actually read nowadays.
if they ban my homie captain underpants im finna give them the hands
Oh look. A nuanced take. Let that sink in, folks. It doesn't happen much anymore.
Stuff like this is why the West are seen as hypocrites.
Panda agrees
Duck agrees
Me agrees
I agrees.
@@powerpanda6446So you're an abuser, then.
I think this should be like how museums are. You learn these things in school but to see many of the (some being explicit) things the museums show them and it is the Parents who can Choose themselves to take Their own kid to the place to learn. In this case the Museum would be a public library.
Literally Fahrenheit 451
From schools yes as they are there to learn about subjects nothing more nothing less, but from public library's no as that is peoples own free time and personal life
Yes
Sure there should be an age restriction on books but i disagree with outright banning of books because if a government can freely ban books then what happens if any criticisms about the government were to be expressed in a book? Most likely they will try to silence that individual for writing down their grievances and publishing it. That's the true danger of any book ban.
How funny that this is what a certain Funny Mustache Man did.
Especially when propaganda is spread and it makes people not only defend these laws but also blame a certain group of people…
Hm, very familiar- where have we seen this before?
I get that elementary schools should ban books but at universities? Last I checked people that go to universities and colleges are adults lol.
I have a slippery slope when they try to ring in April in from the library to the kids and teach them that way?
"Where they burn books, they will ultimately burn people too." - Heinrich Heine
As any complex matter we shall be the judges of the circumstances
- We need to judge if the content of the writing, because it looks like a book it does not mean it cannot be trash.
Fahrenheit 451 is not seeming like fiction anymore
Should sue since it is infringement of the constitution.
Well that is a brain-dead and ignorant take. Since you are essentially arguing it reasonable to FORCE libraries and the like to carry objectionable content.
@@jtnachos16 its free speech. whatever is in the library stays in the library, no matter what. this take of yours is pretty ignorant ngl.
free speech does not mean freedom of consequence tho.@@jtnachos16
"book banning" is a dumb conversation, if i write a book all about having s*x with children or some horrible thing, that book should not be allowed anywhere.
As a historian I can safely say that any society that has existed throughout the course of history has banned books and been remembered as the good guys.
"Good guys"
This isn't a fairy tale.
The books are not banned from sale or they are only banned from school and public libraries because the books contain x rated content (both of which can be freely accessed by children)
The only books banned in America are nonfiction books containing fraudulent information, books containing classified information, or books that violate copyright
Banned and not in middle schools are two very different things
This is how we lose important books because of some groups not liking it
When a restaurant wants to sell burgers and they sell pizza they end up removing pizza from the menu, they don’t ban pizza from the entire country.
I just finished reading 1984, what have we done?!
7:50 Literally sounds like we're headed to 1984...
We shouldn’t have to constantly withdraw books because you can’t parent your own child.
and in Sweden you can't even set your own book on fire
Not publicly anyway
And they claim they have more free speech than us. 😂
Bro, that's an entirely different situation, they were burning a Quran plus they were allowed to buy a couple days later a country stormed a Swedish embassy for this exact reason and attempted to assaulting the embassy's staff and burnt the Bible in front of it.
@@Labyrinth6000They do, they got away with it and that caused a back and forth between 2 different religions books, the Quran and the Bible
Good thing you can buy the books from difftent countries and bring it to the us cause we have the right to speech
Why do us citizens need to go through the hoops and hurdles to do that?
The bans are to stop children's schools from forcing pronography and racist lies onto children: they're not stopping people from publishing them, so stop making yourselves the lying villains and abusers.
@@olyviermonteau4300they shouldn't but it's necessary
@@1012-v9rwait what never mind I changed my thoughts on the ban it should happen then as long they are banning that and not books on history or anything like that it's ok
I think we can have middle ground how about parents need sign a form to allow kids to see such books
Read to an audience of EIGTH GRADERS.
this is literally fahrenheit 451, and i hate that book
I doubt they really care about their kids. It feels like they are afraid to tell their kids about the birds and the bees yet get upset when someone else does it.
I understand that having kids read about those adult books is not right but it's not just about that. These people are afraid of progressive change or anything considered "woke".
I wonder when is it a good time to tell kids about dark topics? I think it's the parents responsibility to tell kids that life isn't all sunshine and rainbows and to stop punishing the wrong people for their social negligence.
If mature books are in a kids library, then it’s justified. But don’t ban this stuff from a PUBLIC library, where everyone can visit and read them
What kind of Fahrenheit 451 world are we living in right now
Didn't a certain group do something very similar to this during WW2..
I haven't read a book in 10 years
I feel like the only reasonable compromise would be to establish an ESRB for books. “Children under this age may not check out of library without a parent present”
How were captain underpants banned yet they allow sx in books in middle school
Im sure plenty of the books have immediately objectable by their covers or illustrations.
It is surprisingly a big problem.
How many times have we got to teach this lesson time and time again
I know that "The Hate U Give" got banned which is a book we read in high school in Germany
Optimus they are also removing books about black historical figures like Bessie Coleman.
Forget banning books, how about removing them from publication?
The only stuff that should be banned is a how to book how to grape
All ima say is Fahrenheit 451, the book literally is about the ban of books
Have a copy of Mein Kampf in my parents basement, my dad is big on keeping pieces of history like that and I am too.
It's good to have such things around so we don't end up repeating it in some way.
Anyone or anything that forgets it's history will repeat it again.
you know the rating for game and movies
this should apply for books too
There shouldn’t be any lgbtq book in elementary schools for sure, high school they can put in a couple the other places are up to the people who own it
This is a very informative video thank you Opti I think more people need to see this ❤❤
hey optimus! just wanted to quickly note, some people aren't too happy with the term "transgenderism", its usually used as a right wing buzz word (example being prageru). also, its not a lifestyle, its who we are! i hope you read this and understand.
Fahrenheit 451?
The #1 news channel of the world
of mice and men, etc these books catching bans speaks a lot to the sickness our society is developing ...
Book bans sound similar to farenheight 451
Got me thinking of book bans burning them in Gumball
Optimus having a middle ground stance on this is respectable.
fahrenheit 451 😬
I don't think keeping sexually explicit books away from children will lead to burning lg tv people with bundles of sticks.
We should just start book burnings at this point
But to be honest we shoudl ban specific books from schools especially sexualy explicit but banning the books all together is a violation for free speech entirely
