Fun fact (for those who dont know) Marlin's dialog when you talk to him in the gym and he says "Shoots let's fight" Shoots is a Hawaiian slang for okay
You know Marlon is a laid back gym leader when even the optimistic Clyde gets annoyed with him swimming around instead of doing his duty. Such a nice touch to his character
It was a crime that Marlon wasn't in any of the Alola games; would have fit in due to the Hawaiian-sounding city name and general tropical vibes. They put in Grimsley of all people, but not him.
I want to say I see what GF was going for, but I really don’t. Like, they have attacked an entire city. Generations is pretty explicit that they just killed thousands of people in a blizzard, with Drayden being a lucky survivor. They are explicitly evil, and Marlon trying to say that maybe we’re not looking at them the right way isn’t a good argument. He feels like he would have been better placed as an early Gym Leader in BW where the stated goal of Team Plasma was to help liberate Pokémon. A Gym Leader who sympathised more with that and wasn’t like all the other Gym Leaders would have been interesting. Here’s he’s really just supporting terrorists.
Not a biggest fan of the character at all. They tried to made a grey character out of him and he was badly executed. Marlon is the one that I forget so easily due the fact he sound so dumb. To be honest, the real true grey one is Colress, due the thing that we gonna see later.
I actually think Marlon's speech after his gym battle would've worked really well in the original Pokémon Black and White. It could've accentuated Alder's question to Cheren about what he plans on doing once he succeeds in becoming Champion, and force Cheren to think about what he REALLY wants.
@@Natsu25100 while that’s what I’m hoping for the most, I don’t find it likley as that would mean half his team is weak to ground type attacks. Furthmore, Chugga has rejected Pokémon in the past for being too strong such as Excadrill and Minncino. While Chugga did use a pseudo-legendary in Crystal, Dratini didn’t become a Dragonite until the penultimate epsiode meaning he’d didn’t have much time to use it when it was OP, while here he would have an instant Metagross given the current levels
I'll say that I like how instead of the Dragon Gym being the last one, they made a relaxed and laid back Gym aesthetic be used for the last challenge. It gives the player something they wouldn't have expected their first time
At the risk of earning some ire, this reminds me of what Sword & Shield did with _their_ 8th Gym's trial. Nothing grandiose or bombastic like you'd expect of a character like Raihan in a city like Hammerlocke-he just brings you to the city's vault to have some weather-themed Double Battles. No overworld music, ancient tapestries plastered across the walls, and just an overall serene atmosphere that you can drink in for as long as you want while you prepare between battles. Like the calm before the Sandstorm, one might say.
@@ShycoWarexcept the story wasn’t building up to anything in SwSh, it was a “calm before the sandstorm” as you say but the sandstorm suddenly appeared without anyone’s knowledge instead of being on the horizon and approaching your location. And given raihan’s personality as this popular social media guy, you’d think his gym challenge would be more “public” than it is
@@fight_and_die1573 The "sandstorm" was meant to just refer to the actual Gym Leader battle, actually. Y'know, 'cause it's the last one, and sand is his weather gimmick of choice :V

@@yep9462 That's not an excuse for bad writing and honestly, you're points contractdict each other? Pokemon has always had lore whether it was in your face or hidden deep within the game. Saying that it doesn't exist even in the games where it does means that it does therefore your point is moot.
I think the lines could’ve worked better if it was done at an earlier time. Marlon's point was about trying to make sure you decided for yourself that something is bad and needs to be stopped, rather than just follow a decision someone else made for you. However, the question seems kind of silly after we saw Team Plasma literally freeze a town solid. Maybe if it was placed earlier on, when all we knew were that they were Pokémon thieves, it would’ve worked a bit better.

I like how later on when you revisit the Gym and talk to Marlon he just jumps back into the water each time. He really likes swimming. You gotta at least admire that about him.
One thing I love is if Marlon has left the gym (Which you can do on repeat visits to the Gym by simply talking to him after beating him), and you talk to the guy at the entrance of the gym, he'll ask if he's gone off swimming again. Its a very minute quote, but it is just a random quote that stuck with me.

I know Marlon seems really odd given that he’s so laid back about literal terrorists, but I can’t help but love his attitude and philosophy on paper. He IS the bright side of the ocean himself, open and accepting of all rivers and just going with the flow. I think we need more people like Marlon these days.
No joke, I was playing my old pkmn black game the other day, and I found a shiny shelmet in iccruss City and went to mistrilton Cave and found a shiny woobat just a few encounters later. The kicker was I wasn't planning on using either on my team.
Welcome back from PAX, chuggaa! I hope you had a blast. I have a good chance to see you next year. Now, kick that complacent Water-type gym leader's ass! He chills in his heated pool while Unova freezes. Time to splash some reality into his face!
Marlon’s little speech at the end about the ocean accepting all rivers makes me think he might be immune to culture wars, which is quite enviable and might make him a misunderstood character.
It's one thing to be immune to culture wars. It's another to see blatant evidence that one side is an aggressor against innocents on the other side and still refuse to help.
I don't know if you can apply the culture war concept to this situation since there is not enough info about the villain plan besides taking over the world and forcing people to separate pokemon.
Well guys it’s confirmed Emile has edited the video in which the final member has been caught. Now it’s just a waiting game to see when it will be. Will the Sneasel fans be validated or will their hopes and dreams be crushed like the Pawniard nation? Only time will tell
Honestly it could be many pokemon. But I'm going to say sneasel, since he mentioned early on that "attacking first, KO ing your opponent in one hit and never asking questions" is the optimal way to play pokemon. Even though my two strongest members for the final fight in the main story in my most recent playthrough of B2 were both tanky stallers. Ferroseed and Umbreon are not to be messed with.
I love how the two Pokemon that chuggaa claimed would be the most useless in the gym battle were the ones who swept up that battle and earned him the badge
Thinking about what you said about Humilau's place in the story, and I agree that this place should've been *after* beating Team Plasma like the story of Gen 4. This place would have been a welcome breather between Team Plasma and the League, and Marlon's Gym proved that.
17:03 The Wave Badge. Well Done Chuggaconroy, You now have all eight badges to participate in the Pokémon League!😃 In the anime Ash didn’t have that badge because he has all eight badges. So a trainer known as Cameron who’s a rival and a competitor got the Wave Badge as his eighth and final badge, And I can guess that his seventh badge could be a grass type badge although it’s an anime exclusive only. Good luck Chuggaconroy and head to the Pokémon League, And have no fear.
Welcome bach Chugga! Hope you had a good time at PAX! And people talk about Gen 6 having an easy Gym 8. It really was funny how my Lucario just had a move to defeat all 3 of his Pokemon. Once that Sturdy was broken and the Sword was Danced, there was no stoppin'. Really made Marlon's 'I'm totally gonna lose' line ring especially true.
A game with over 100 characters with unique movesets? Pokemon sure has that, but the statement reminde3d me of the Suikoden series - which has exactly 108 different characters with different traits and personalities. Had to post because the statement made me happy.
Fun Fact: At this point in the series, Emboar is the only Pokémon that is naturally Fire type and can also learn a Water type move. The others are Castform and *Arceus*.
3:10 It's a big part of what made the original on GB so mind blowing. It felt like a game of a scale that rivalled things like FF7. Obviously not in terms of graphics but in terms of content and richness.
The Unova anime while it was rightfully hated it actually showed that there were multiple gyms to get 8 from having both Roxie and Marlon appear in the anime to prove that. I kinda wish they did this more in games and the anime. Could you imagine in another pokemon game they had more than 8 gyms and have the open world aspect allow you to challenge any of them in order making each playthrough different with different gym leaders in different orders. It would be soo cool and not hard to implement a level scaling. Anyways here is Marlon's Challenge Mode Team: Wailord Level 53 Water Type Water Veil for ability Moves: -Scald -Rain Dance -Ice Beam -Earthquake Carracosta Level 53 Water/Rock Type Sturdy for Ability Sitrus Berry for Item Moves: -Scald -Crunch -Shell Smash -Rock Slide Mantine Level 53 Water/Flying Swift Swim for Ability Moves: -Scald -Air Slash -Confuse Ray -Ice Beam Jellicent Level 55 Water/Ghost Cursed Body for Ability Sitrus Berry for Item Moves: -Scald -Recover -Energy Ball -Shadow Ball
Compared to Drayden, who is one of the most dangerous gym leaders, Marlon is... Not that. You have easy access to both Electric and Grass types that just completely shred him by this point in the adventure, and if you evolve the free Hidden Grotto Minccino into Cinccino, get it up to near his level and teach it Bullet Seed, you can one shot everything but his Jellicent. Honestly a much needed breather given the tough fights coming up and the tough fight with Drayden right before.
@@SoraFan23 Would have worked better for his character too. Marlon assuming Team Plasma isn't evil just because people tell they are would have worked better if you meet him before going to Opelucid City. The way the game presents it makes him look like a lazy idiot at best, or an insensitive jerk at worst.
The praise of the graphics stings when you remember how the pokemon fandom felt about getting sprites instead of full 3D back in 2011 and 2012, and it stings even more when you think about how loved games like Octopath are today for this exact style in higher resolution.
Other than how poorly placed this gym in the story, it is a REALLY cool gym. I didn’t play White 2 until after Sun and Moon and I was STILL impressed by how it looks. Also an unexpected different gym this late was great! (I just expected another fight with Brycen despite his Poke Studio stardom)

God, i love the music they used for the water gym, its so relaxing
P.s shoutouts to marin quite possibly being the descendant to both iscan and palina. Those two are adorable together. lol. Of chose, thats a theory! But still nice to think about
:)
@@thefreelancequeen:D
I mean Pignati is a Firefighter so it fits that it can learn scald. Good to have you back Chugga.
Thank you for uploading Emile. I kinda needed this since I am not in a very good place right now. Seeing you upload really can brighten up my day.
Hey. Hoping that things will turn out better for you soon. Hang in there.
Hope everything goes better for you big hugs, hang in there
"Skipped" trainer defeat text for this episode:
1:29 *Ace Trainer Doyle:* I lost? Now I just want to climb aboard a leaf and be swept away somewhere...
2:50 *Ace Trainer Melina:* I won't give up, even if I am defeated! That toughness is the pride of an Ace Trainer!
The Electirizer is much later than I was expecting. I could have sworn you could get Electivire by now.
It’s not too much longer. If we keep getting daily episodes like normal it should be even by the end of this week.
@@thefreelancequeenIs it on this next route? I can’t remember exactly.
@@LinkMountaineer No, but just a bit longer, spoilers:
It's on the Plasma frigate ship which you will enter in just a little bit.
@@blue_boo3171 I’ve played this before, but it’s been a while so I forgot.
He could have gotten lucky in his join avenue, Amethyst. Antique shop box from white 2 could have been the electirizer.
Chugga making Tera Water Emboar look really compelling…
If Scald returns as a TM, that might secretly be good. Emboar can learn it.
This gym is always one of my favorites for the design alone! I always took my time when I got to it.
Finally caught up and can now watch this series in real time, pumped to see the best of gen 5 in the coming episodes
I have never seen an actual fan of Marlon. I’ve seen more fans of Kalos gym leaders than Marlon.
I like marlon. I think his chill vibes represent taking things slow, amd doing things because you know they're the right thing, and not just to do it. At least that's what I got from him. I'm not especially a fan, but I like him more than burg.
The “I’m still a single pixel away from levelling up” trend returns!
I’ve been watching your full lp list starting with the beginning. I’m halfway through Mother3, and it’s really interesting to see how you’ve changed over time
Pignati:All that water aside, I’ve finally done it. My collection’s complete!
Jade:Huh? What collection?
Pignati: I made little figurines of myself out of materials I could find from every Gym we’ve been to. Some were a lot harder to make than others, but it’ll make nice memories of the battles we’ve been through!
(*Pignati shows Jade several handmade statuettes of varying degrees of quality*)
Jade:That’s really impressive, Pignati! I like ‘em!
Pignati:I’m so glad to hear that, Jade!
Nice to see you back emile! hope you had a fun time at Pax West
In this episode:
Team Plasma’s up to no good?! Better challenge the gym leader!
Sometimes the ones we don't plan on using are the ones we grow attatched to.
Hope you had a nice time at PAX, Chugga! Welcome back!
Humilau’s gym is aesthetically pleasing ngl, the little lilypad boats are cute ☺️
Welcome back from PAX, chuggaa! I hope you had a blast. I have a good chance to see you next year.
Now, kick that complacent Water-type gym leader's ass! He chills in his heated pool while Unova freezes. Time to splash some reality into his face!
The 8th and final gym leader, Marlon. The sea dwelling swimming specialist himself. Who’s ready to get wet
@@Pikachu2AshI was speaking in more general terms apart from the situation at hand.
@@dukewojcik7753 Well why wouldn't you focus on the situation at hand?
God I love the limited amount of shirts Marlon wears it’s so attractive
👀
You didn’t talk about the limited 3D used should I be worried
@@Jessica_Schweser No, no this is good. OP is finally spicing up their messages
@@Jessica_Schweseri want to a lot of the time i just never had any ideas so this time i just let gayness win
@@thefreelancequeen Oh well congratulations
I love how the two Pokemon that chuggaa claimed would be the most useless in the gym battle were the ones who swept up that battle and earned him the badge
Thinking about what you said about Humilau's place in the story, and I agree that this place should've been *after* beating Team Plasma like the story of Gen 4. This place would have been a welcome breather between Team Plasma and the League, and Marlon's Gym proved that.
17:03 The Wave Badge.
Well Done Chuggaconroy,
You now have all eight badges to participate in the Pokémon League!😃
In the anime Ash didn’t have that badge because he has all eight badges.
So a trainer known as Cameron who’s a rival and a competitor got the Wave Badge as his eighth and final badge,
And I can guess that his seventh badge could be a grass type badge although it’s an anime exclusive only.
Good luck Chuggaconroy and head to the Pokémon League,
And have no fear.
Good god I hated the Black and White anime. It was so bad.
@@SoraFan23 Well that’s fine cause that’s your opinion.
@@Unknown_User174 whatever.
I love how that gym battle could've gone horribly wrong at any moment. All Ominous Wind had to do was activate once...
Emboar can weaponize it’s own sweat? What a chad!
8:17 i can imaging chugga with that grin spongebob had when he found out squidward liked krabby patties
You know Chugga isn’t a sports guy when he said “ we’re out of the Pre-season and into the playoffs” 😂
This man inspired me as a kid. Cant believe he’s still going! I followed his paper mario n64 playthough when i was a kid and didnt know what to do😂
Everyday a new part of a chugga-pokemon part is uploaded is a GOOD day.
If you want to see another franchise with BEAUTIFUL spritework you need to check out the trails franchise
Hey Chugga! Welcome back!
3:10
It's a big part of what made the original on GB so mind blowing.
Anyways here is Marlon's Challenge Mode Team:
Wailord Level 53 Water Type
Water Veil for ability
Moves:
-Scald
-Rain Dance
-Ice Beam
-Earthquake
Carracosta Level 53 Water/Rock Type
Sturdy for Ability
Sitrus Berry for Item
Moves:
-Scald
-Crunch
-Shell Smash
-Rock Slide
Mantine Level 53 Water/Flying
Swift Swim for Ability
Moves:
-Scald
-Air Slash
-Confuse Ray
-Ice Beam
Jellicent Level 55 Water/Ghost
Cursed Body for Ability
Sitrus Berry for Item
Moves:
-Scald
-Recover
-Energy Ball
-Shadow Ball
You could even make it 12 gym leaders and the four you don't face are the elite 4
I sometimes wonder if maybe Drayden was suppose to be the final Gym Leader and Marlon was suppose to be the 7th gym leader.
Interesting Fact about Marlon:
Marlon is the first Gym Leader to appear in only one anime episode since Bugsy.
Great job using you're Emboar against so many water type pokemon in the gym so cool
Chuggaa referencing 2K of all things is something i didnt expect lmao
Marlon... The guy who spent so long in the sun, you can see his tan like night and day. He's not wearing socks. His stomach is the same color.
Hopefully if we get a SV play through we remember to bring Pignati so he can get a water Tera type
YESSSS WELCOME BACK WE MISSED YOUUU
9:09
I sea what you did there!
0:44 He thinks he’s the Miiverse Water Guy
The JRose reference at the end of the episode did not go unnoticed. I think it would be so fun if you guys did a video together!
18:40 That way of describing Scald just reminds me of Sailor Guts from Sailor Moon Sailor Stars.
Youth's Perspiration!
I'm just imagining Pignati just chugging a bottle of water, superheating it, and spitting it beck out every time he uses scald.
Our king has returned!
"Shoots" is actually a Hawaiian expression.
Kind of means like "Okay!" or "Alright!"
Given what region is based off it yeah Marlin's from or at least lived in Alola.
Congrats on earning your final Gym Badge!
My Amphoras wrecked this gym all its own in my Pokémon Black 2 after going the long way around to Himalau City!
Yeah for a "Final" gym this was pretty easy.
THE MAN IS BACK
WELCOME BACK CHUGGA! HOPE U HAD FUN!
I love the music for Humilau City gym… 😊
Shoots is Hawaiian slang. So, good on the localization team for making Marlin more authentic!
Bruh no joke today I woke up thinking, "wonder when Chugga's gonna upload more BW2 again"
There's my question answered
I really hope Chuggaa does a fan art special at the end of this LP
I know this is a small detail most people won't care about. But "shoots" is a slang term used in Hawai'i. A common way to get some ones attention or make an exclamation of surprise is to say "shoots brudda"
It’s kind of extremely grim to describe Humilau City as a resort area, tbh.
Why is that?
"Pokemon doesn't need a hard mode since you can just use weaker pokemon or go into fights underleveled"~Chugga
>ACE GYM TRAINER decides to actively ignore going for a super effective attack and instead turns your pokemon into a type that will resist his moves.
Marlon's so laid back he didn't even know Team Plasma was a thing.
Like, dang, he's a real Himbo I guess.
Nice job defeating the 8th gym leader!
Looking forward to seeing whether you catch your last team member while going after Team Plasma or while traversing Victory Road.
